Vintage 50's lake cabin featured in Fresh Cottage Magazine's 'dream retreats'
About this cabin rental
Located in Pine Plains, this attractive cabin for $194 per night is a fantastic choice for your next trip. Rustic cabin by Twin Island Lake, Pine Plains, NY Sitting on quiet Lake Road and nestled in the woods, my rental built in 1950 is fashioned after a vintage lake cabin. As seen in the pictures, I have dressed the the space with props reminiscent of that era. The cabin offers a well equipped kitchen (no dishwasher), a bath with a large claw footed tub and an outdoor hot and cold shower. There are two bedroom areas; one with a single bed and pop-up trundle, the other a double bed. Both are old-fashioned spring beds. The front sitting room/kitchen area has great views of the lake with an over head ceiling fan (no air conditioning) and a wood burning stove for cooler temps. The property includes Lake front with dock and canoe. Swimming in the lake out front is possible in the Spring and Fall. But during the summer, there is an over abundance of water lilies. At that time, it is good for boating (15mph electric limit) and fishing. There are 3 bodies of water connected. The next called Stissing lake is deeper and offers 2 good swimming options. One is the Lions Club Beach requiring a permit which I provide and the other public entry can be located on the hiking and swimming map which I provide. The scenic hiking trails are around Thompson Pond, the third in the chain of lakes and up Stissing Mountain to the fire tower. The town of Pine Plains is small and quaint New England. It offers a Historic Inn for dining, several other small eateries and a WIFI coffee shop. The food market, Pecks, is family owned and carries local produce as well as some organic. This is an owner shared cabin; I may be there when it is not lent out and keep a permanent bureau and closet with my things. No land line or TV. Good cell reception. WIFI available. There is a suitcase of board games, puzzles, cards and plenty of mystery books. Not winterized, the cabin is closed down in October and opened again by June. Book ahead. Discounted weekly rate.

I found my Aunt deceased unexpectedly and we wanted to honor her wishes. She was cremated in SC and wanted to be returned home and buried with her Mother (my Grandma) in NY. My daughter struggles with anxiety and has Gertrude, her ESA. We needed to find a property that allowed dogs, had the availability on short notice and was located near our remaining family and future business in NY. This property checked every single box! We drove my Aunt up overnight and arrived a bit earlier then planned. (Not sure if it was my lead foot or less traffic/construction then usual). Our lovely host responded to our inquires quickly. She was very accurate in her description of this beautiful lakeside property. I grew up in a lakeside community so this reminded me of home. It was awesome to be able to share these memories with my kids. My Aunt, in a similar home as my childhood home so my kids got a real representation of those memories. The day of the services was very emotional and the weather was terrible. It was cold, rainy and the wind was crazy. We came back to the property, lit a fire in the wood stove and finally took a deep breath. Normally, we would head back down south pretty quickly. We stayed and enjoyed this home. It’s the perfect representation of lakeside living. Dressed beautifully in a vintage style, we used the radio (which was perfectly tuned to an oldies station) and chatted with the neighbors abt the community. Thank you for making a terrible loss more bearable 💜

Cabin is indeed vintage. Adored the outside shower! We will be making one at our home in the northern Adirondacks! Great location-close to town. Nice and quiet.

If you want privacy this is the place! We loved the quiet and tranquility.
It is extremely rustic. The “on demand” heater needs to be repaired. We were boiling water for baths… no shower.
Also, replacement of both mattress would not hurt either. The rolling to the centre was not optional.
We loved being close to Stissing House and Champetre for 2 nights dining out, with only a 3 minute drive back home.
In conclusion, if you enjoy camping this is your quaint, peaceful little cabin with plenty of hiking to be enjoyed close by.

Simple yet comfortable, set in the middle of nature, a place to restore peace of mind. Reminded us of Lake Wobegon. Inez's cabin is more than enough for a relaxing vacation.

This cabin is so nice that it has inspired my partner and I to own a cabin of our own someday! Very cozy and quiet, it has everything you need while also going for the authentic wood cabin vibe. The outdoor shower is dreamy and the wood fire stove is perfect for cooler nights. Thanks Inez!

The view was spectacular! We loved no tv or electronics! We enjoyed reading, playing games, canoeing, and hiking Stissing Mountain!

This adorable cottage was well stocked with everything we needed: indoor and outdoor firewood, fans, blankets, games. We went to the very nearby beach, played croquet and parcheesi, relaxed in the hammock and had dinner at the picnic table. I found the bed and pillows very comfortable. We heard owls. Not enough time to use the canoe, but would definitely stay again! Thank you for a delightful weekend to de-stress!

This is an as advertised cottage. It is comfortable and homey. There are neighbors close by but you hardly see them. The only complaint I have the owner can not do anything about. The lake road has a lot of speeders and it felt unsafe to walk it. If you are going in the summer bring a fan for the living area, the ceiling fan does not work to cool you down.

Lake Front Living
Rustic, charming, cozy - the Little Green Cabin is the perfect lakefront getaway. This was my 3rd time at the cabin and post-covid quarantine, it was the only place I wanted to go to escape NYC for the first time in 18-months. It felt familiar, safe, and the best place to vacation without having to go very far.
The property's structure - floorboards, ceiling beams, lighting, doors, and windows provide rustic charm while the carefully chosen decor, accessories and colors create a cozy, welcoming retreat.
The location is prime! You’re a quick drive to other great towns, like Rhineback, or chill on an Adirondack chair by the lake.
I can’t recommend this property enough!

We stayed in the cabin for 9 nights; and had a great time!
The cabin is next to the lake; there is a road in between the cabin & the water, but the road is not busy and pretty quiet, especially at night time. We enjoyed canoeing, fishing (so many hungry fish!), and hiking (the trail to Fire Tower was beautiful - highly recommended!! The Pond trail was good but we were chased by thousands of mosquitos!!). We went to Taconic State Park for swimming. The neighbors were pretty close to each other, but all seemed very friendly and respectful; and very quiet.
The cabin is cozy and vintage. The bed was a bit uncomfortable but not complaining; it was one of the things that we expected. Inez provided more than enough supplies and we were very grateful. Using the hot water was a bit tricky, but we found a way (starting hot water from the sink helped the hot water kick in). We did enjoy the outdoor shower and saw many deers!
Thank you Inez for letting us staying at your precious property.

Inez's cabin is such a magical place. The listing is accurately described and it was such a well appointed rental. Everything we needed was available and Inez's instructions were very clear. I loved all of the thoughtfulness put into the decor and vintage touches everywhere-Inez's eye for design really comes through. I could never get tired of waking up to the beautiful lake and exploring Pine Plains. I am already planning my next visit.
This is made very clear in the listing, but this is a CABIN. If you don't like the outdoors and aren't okay with a couple of bugs, it probably isn't the best place for you.

Excellent getaway
Perfect for a quick weekend away without our son. Lots to do in the area or just relax and read a book. It's great that there is a working wood burning stove and wood to use! Thanks for a great escape!

My partner, my ten year old, my dog and I spent a sweet and sublime late summer week in the cabin. We loved canoeing on Twin Island Lake at dawn and dusk (and sometimes in between, taking long walks, enjoying the area, swimming at Lake Taghkanic, and enjoying quiet time. The vintage touches in the cabin were sweet, and made the space feel homey. We loved the outdoor shower, the green theme, grilling and making s’mores at the fire pit. This is a lovely place to stay and do some writing, drawing or just spend quiet and contemplative time, alone or with others. Can’t wait to come back!

Quiet stay, little tight for four people
We stayed at Inez’ cabin over Fourth of July weekend and loved getting out on the lake, using the fire pit and grill, and relaxing on the hammock.
Kitchen is well stocked with cookware, outdoor shower is great, no issues with the plumbing. We also were very appreciative to be able to bring our dog. The cabin is a short walk from Stissing Mtn, which was a fun hike, and a private lake beach (though the swimming area is very small and they didn’t let us float outside of it).
A few things to be aware of...the cabin is on the opposite side of Lake Rd from the water, so passing cars break up the ambiance a bit when you’re trying to relax on the front lawn. The cabin is quaint and comfortable, but furniture is pretty aged. For what we were paying (a little higher for a holiday weekend, I’m sure), I think it'd be reasonable to expect newer mattresses and a more comfortable couch and reading chair. The couple who stayed on the trundle bed in the back said it was a little cramped. Also there are no doors, so best to travel with people you’re comfortable with.
Overall, it’s probably best fit for up to 2 people and a bit overpriced, but we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.

Scenic and Nostalgic
What a great place to relax and slow down: waking up in the morning, starting the wood stove in the chill, then drinking coffee while watching Geese land on the lake. We loved it!

Wonderful Weekend
It was great to return again to Inez’s vintage cabin in the woods. Although it was chilly, she had laid a fire for our arrival and it quickly took the chill off.
The beds/pillows were very comfy.
Kitchen more than adequate for breakfast cooking.
We love it here and plan to return in the spring 2020

Beautiful setting
Extremely rustic cabin. If you are looking to get away from it all it will satisfy your needs. Inez was easy to get in communication with and was helpful when we reached out. However this is definitely not a luxuriuos accomodation.

Pine Plains Vintage
We had the best time in the cozy vintage lake cabin in Pine Plains. Everything is so charming. The best part was the view of the sun rising over the lake that you can see while laying in bed. Sitting on the dock with a glass of wine was very relaxing. The water Lillies come out in full bloom and the lake is transformed. Inez the owner is super nice - repeating to me information she had already given but I forgot. So nice and accommodating!

Much welcomed relaxation!
We loved our stay here, & would come back. Location was rustic (could use a firmer bed though..:(..), but perfect for a city getaway. Not any of the tourist trappings. We never left the cabin and enjoyed frequent walks along the lake, grilling and eating outdoors & regular naps.
Communication with owner was excellent! She is very responsive and helpful.
I recommend this place highly!

A Vintage Delight
My family and I stayed here on a lovely October weekend. We lucked out with great weather to hang out by the lake. Then we spent cool evenings cozying up by the wood stove listening to the radio and playing board games. Our kids (8 and 13) loved checking out all the vintage details of the cabin, like the travel plates, license plates, old kitchen items, and funny little figurines. Everything was a conversation starter.
It's an easy drive to Red Hook and Rhinebeck, where we did some shopping, eating, and apple-picking. We'll definitely have to come back in warmer weather to take a dip in the beautiful lake.

Tranquil location
Our family truly needed a place to just be present with each other and Inez's cabin was the perfect location. The lake is extremely quiet. Inez's canoe allowed our family to explore the lake and take in the beauty. Our children each caught their first fish. The town beach was an easy walk or bike ride. A great spot for swimming and another amazing lake to explore with a kayak. It was easy to drop in with the public boat launch. We were able to leave our kayaks near Inez's canoe when we were not using them. The nature and hiking trails are easy to get to and well marked. We enjoyed not having wifi or television and listening to the local radio stations. And everyone we met in town was extremely helpful and friendly. The cabin had everything we needed and the outside shower was a great way to end some of the most peaceful and relaxing days. We are already talking about going back next summer. The only reason we didnt give the cabin 5 stars was the box springs took a bit to get used to... but Inez does mention it in the description... but if you ask our 8 year old she loved the box spring! I am confident our 8 and 5 year olds would give this cabin a 10!
