Corner Cottage: A Romantic Retreat Near Downtown Asheville
About this cottage rental
Why get a cookie-cutter hotel room when you can enjoy a one-bedroom cottage in one of Asheville's most charming neighborhoods? Just a five-minute walk from downtown, this beautifully renovated 1914 home is nestled next to a grove of trees and is handily close to a local café for that morning cup. The cozy and private bungalow is ideal for a romantic getaway, a writing retreat, or a family vacation. The cottage, located on a quiet street with a private driveway that has room for two cars, is decorated with Oriental carpets from the owner’s travels in the Middle East, Africa, and Central Asia as well as original artwork and an extensive book collection. Completely refurbished, it boasts an open-plan kitchen with granite countertops and everything you need to whip up a gourmet meal from Asheville's famous farmers markets; a library with desk, ergonomic chair, and reading chair; a bedroom with a comfortable queen bed and a walk-in closet; and a bathroom with bidet and open shower (and a deliciously heated floor). The living room is bright and sunny, and there is a push-button fireplace for chilly mountain nights. Along with WiFi, there is a Smart TV lets you access Netflix or Amazon, as well as local channels (no need for cable in this town where there is so much to do). The fully enclosed backyard with a fountain, deck, table and chairs, and gas grill affords a private and spacious outdoor environment for you and your pets to enjoy, and the rocker on the sunny front porch is the perfect place to catch up on your reading. Or head out on foot to take a city tour from the Asheville Visitor Center one block down the street, or choose from dozens of restaurants, bars, theaters, and galleries without worrying about parking. You are just a short stroll away! You can also venture to Biltmore House, the Grove Park Inn, or the Blue Ridge Parkway, all located within a 10-minute drive. Ziplines, hiking trails, canoeing, and white-water rafting are within easy reach. But you may find Corner Cottage hard to leave!

So happy with our accommodations - this adorable, welcoming cottage made for the perfect comfy base camp from which to explore Asheville. Beautifully decorated with lovely art throughout and a private, fenced garden patio retreat - so much nicer than staying in a hotel. You’ll feel like a local staying here. It’s in a lovely historic neighborhood - an easy walk to all that downtown Asheville has to offer and easy access to drive to explore everywhere else. Loved and regularly made use of the All Day Darling Diner next door and highly recommend the excellent restaurant around the block - Tall John’s. As good as any of the excellent restaurants we visited in the more “touristy” areas. They’ll be getting awards once the word gets out! Pop into the conveniently located Visitor Center about a half block away and get suggestions on things to do or peruse the binder of suggestions that the thoughtful host has compiled. At the end of the night, you’ll be happy to rest your head on the fluffy pillows in your home away from home for a good night’s sleep. The host very kindly checked in on us to make sure we had what we needed and let us know he was there if we had questions. No need, the little cottage was perfect for our stay.

This is a terrific find. The house is comfortable for two people and offers everything for a fantastic stay. The kitchen and dining room had modern appliances, the den benefited from a unique atmosphere and the fenced backyard was the perfect escape. And best of all, the location is perfect. Walking to the city adds to the value of this location. We truly enjoyed our visit.

The good: Location is great, in a historic neighborhood and walkable to diner next door, grocery stores, and downtown Asheville. The cottage is adorable with a bedroom, office, living room, updated bathroom, well-stocked eat-in and updated kitchen, and a small fenced backyard. The bad: This place would be 5 stars if it were properly cleaned. There was pet fur everywhere (in the bedding, on the floor, on the couch, on the countertops, in the bathroom). I reached out to the owner and they offered to come and vacuum, but what it really needs is an overall deep cleaning. The refrigerator interior, kitchen window frame, and toaster were covered with food residue. The dishes, pots, pans, cups, and silverware were put away in the cabinets dirty, and needed to be cleaned before using. There was human and dog hair all over the bathroom (floor and shower walls). I do hope they take the time to do a proper cleaning because it is the only issue with this house.

Andrew's cottage was perfect - easy access to downtown Asheville (an easy 3 block walk), lovely walking in Montford, and of course, The All Day Darling Restaurant is just next door. More than adequate for our 2 week visit!

My husband and mini dachshund spent four nights at The Corner Cottage in late April, 2022. Upon driving up to the cottage it was lovely to see the dogwood and phlox blooming in the front yard and along the stone wall. The cottage was well appointed and as pictured. The fenced in back yard could use a bit of sprucing up. We were greeted by a large dead potted plant on the deck and the table and chairs could use a refurbishing, as well as the wicker rocker on the front porch which was peeling paint. Would not take much TLC and attention to make those areas more inviting. The Montford neighborhood was pleasant to walk in with many pollinator gardens to admire.

We loved our stay at this property. Cozy, quiet, and relaxing in a walkable neighborhood just a short drive (or walk like we did) to downtown Asheville. The host and property manager checked in with us a few times to make sure all was well--and it was. These are great hosts with an attention to the kinds of details (ex. tea in the kitchen) that make for an enjoyable stay.
If we could make two small suggestions: we found the property to be very clean overall, but it could use a "deep/spring cleaning" to take it to the next level in a couple areas. And a second lock, like a deadbolt, on the front door would give an added feeling of security.
We'll definitely look to book this property again on future trips to Asheville. Thank you!

Winter retreat
My husband and I enjoyed a winter getaway to Asheville recently. This property is charmingly decorated and very cozy & comfortable. I loved all the pretty rugs! The location was very good, too, close to downtown. We enjoyed a lovely walk to a nearby restaurant one evening. We appreciated the delicious bottle of wine that Andrew left out for us - that was a nice surprise! I would definitely recommend a stay here for 1 or 2 people. The only reason I'm giving this a 4 instead of a 5 is because of the kitchen. The microwave was up too high and I couldn't use it. I had trouble with the coffee maker and ended up using the French press. It would help to have more dish towels. (If it weren't for the current pandemic conditions, we would have eaten out more, so maybe I'm being a bit too picky since I cooked nearly all of our meals there.) Overall, it's a great place, and I would stay there again.

Basically this place has it all and is perfect for 2 people. Relaxing living room, ample bedroom space with walkin closet, private backyard that is fully enclosed and privacy fenced, updated kitchen and bathroom. It is just blocks from downtown Asheville and directly adjacent to a coffee shop/brunch spot that makes is super convenient if you don't want to cook. The kitchen is fully stocked and has everything you'd need for a week long stay. We will be back.

Adorable Cottage!
This place is (almost) a perfect little gem! We stayed for a week and loved this quaint, well-thought-out cottage for many reasons.
The owner was very responsive (checking-in/out was a breeze), and thoughtfully provided a binder with info on the home’s How To’s and the area.
Praises: the location (quiet and an easy walk into town), dogs are welcome (yea!), a private back deck (perfect for a still-in-pj’s cup of coffee) and fenced yard (major convenience), heated bathroom floor (ahhh), a nice office space, comfy living area, laundry, parking, dimmers on all the lights (if you don’t know you love this yet, you will), a full kitchen with a dishwasher (yippie!) and interesting book, art and rug collections ... the latter of which covers the floors and walls, and makes the space warm and inviting. The restaurant/coffee place right next door is also a major bonus.
Complaints: (being honest) personal belongings crowded the bathroom. Not horrible, but awkward (and, mildly, annoying) having to move them to make space.
Our main reason this wasn’t a 5* stay: cleanliness.
I’m not a clean freak, cobwebs and dust happen, but (for us, at least) beds, bathrooms and kitchens should be spotless.
Unfortunately, the sheets didn’t appear / smell clean when we arrived (I checked due to the state of the other bedding), so we had to wash them before we would sleep in them. The bath mats and shower also needed cleaning (general and deeper clean issues), as did much of the kitchen items before we would use them - counters, pots, utensils, towels. Thanks to the dishwasher (yippie!) the dishes and glasses were fine.
There were plenty of cleaning supplies under the sink, but having to use them on arrival wasn’t ideal.
Overall: the pro’s definitely outnumber the con’s, so this cozy cottage is a good choice if you’re visiting Asheville!

Perfect visit to Asheville
We had a wonderful time in Asheville and the corner cottage was a big part of it. Perfect location to downtown, restaurants and the family we came to visit. Very quiet location and had everything we needed. We even had a warm day so were able to enjoy the back patio deck. Andrew was very quick to respond with any questions we had.

This is a very beautiful property that met all of our expectations, save one. We would rent again IF. We are both 88 and love Asheville but didn't expect it to be in the mid 90's. After spending our days visiting museums, galleries, and craft shops, the heat was a bit much so we were not up to going out in the evening. Hence, we looked forward to listening to the news and watching some of our favorite programs. The TV was impossible and directions for its use were poor, or the ones on the back of the door were missing. Someone had taken pr stolen he antenna so we could not get any stations over the air. For other things you could do with a smart tv, it worked to some extent but often lost its connection to the internet. Because one of us has and eye problem and cannot read for extended periods, we decided to forfeit the rental we had paid for the last day and return to Chapel Hill.
