About this house rental

This comfy vacation home is located on a hillside above downtown Gardiner, Montana just a 1/2 mile to the North Entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Hillside Hideaway is loaded with Montana flair, gorgeous local artwork, and every amenity you could ask for (including a sauna, pool table, and fire pit) to make your Yellowstone vacation a dream come true! Available year-round, enjoy the peace, quiet, snow and skiing in the winter; the abundant wildlife in the shoulder seasons and the hiking, rafting and scenery in the summer months. An all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive vehicle may be needed in the winter depending on snow conditions to get to the house. Property management does plow the access, yet if arriving mid-storm if may get tricky. This 3,900 sq foot, two-level home sleeps 12 in 5 bedrooms plus 1 queen sized pull-out couch and includes 3 full bathrooms. The main floor includes a gourmet kitchen, with tons of work space and an adjacent large dining room; a living room for gathering with family and friends; a master suite; the sauna room, and another bedroom featuring two twin beds and another full bath. Downstairs features a large family room, complete with a game area, fireplace, and pool table. The downstairs family room is the perfect place to unwind, shoot pool, play cards, or watch a movie on the huge flat screen. A full bath, three bedrooms and a queen sleeper sofa complete the downstairs level. There is a deck off the living room to sit and enjoy the mountain views of Electric Peak, the tallest peak in the northern portion of Yellowstone Park; later wander across the stone path to enjoy the fire pit sitting area. This yard will be the perfect place for your family or group to spread out and enjoy the beautiful Montana night sky. Listen closely for the owls residing in the area and/or the howls of local coyotes. After a full-day exploring Yellowstone, you will appreciate the super comfortable beds and luxurious linens as well as so many spacious bedrooms for your family and friends to call their own. Every wall of this house is home to beautiful artwork and photography that celebrate Yellowstone and the beautiful area we are lucky to call home. Most pieces are done by local artists and are available for purchase. NOTE: Gardiner is an unincorporated town of approximately 1000 year-round residents. In recent years, as tourism into Yellowstone increases, so does development in Gardiner. Therefore, you will find newly constructed beautiful homes, next to older, smaller residences. There are also some trailer homes and RV sites located in town. However, the gorgeous mountain views are visible from each and every place in town!

We have stayed here before and the home was amazing as usual. It was comfortable and has a beautiful view. The only problem was our son in law was so excited to be there he was doing elk calls and got in trouble with the locals. Which we completely understood. Our son in law learned a valuable lesson.

We enjoyed our family trip. We had 4 generations traveling together and the house was a perfect spot to gather and visit and enjoy being together. The house was comfortable, clean and well stocked with all necessities! Thank you for sharing your home!

Excellent location with incredibly easy access to North entrance of Yellowstone. Fabulous, spacious home, with super amenities including sauna and billiards. Kitchen was super easy to cook in. Very clean properly and very responsive property managers. All the comforts of home!! Highly recommend!!

The house is perfect for a large group—clean, nicely decorated and well stocked. We loved it. It is a little difficult to find and is surrounded by “lower” standard dwellings but no one bothered us. We did see mule deer and Elk in the surrounding area. Barbara is an excellent host.

House was beautiful and well equipped to meet all our needs. Veiw of the mountains from the front porch was beautiful! Had some minor appliance issues, but Barbara and Allen were quick to remedy them. Overall we had a wonderful time and it is a great place to stay. Would definitely book again!

The house worked well for the 3 generations traveling together. The house was clean and the host provided most everything we needed including snacks. Don’t forget to use the bear spray in the laundry room! We saw so much wildlife! In Gardiner the elk are everywhere and in the park we saw a bear and her 2 cubs several times as well as bison, mountain goats, and pronghorn antelope! We also saw a grizzly and wolf pup through our guide’s scope. In the evenings go down to the food truck area for ice cream and music. We had a wonderful time and Barbara communicated well and answered all of our questions promptly. Highly recommend this property and host and the sauna!

This house was an amazing home base for our family YNP trip. It was very well appointed, comfortable, and easy to manage. Our boys loved playing in the yard catching butterflies and crickets in the native plants all over the yard. In addition to the house amenities being outstanding, the location was perfect. Easy to get to everything in and around YNP that we wanted to visit, easy to get home at night, and Gardiner is a great town. The town had everything we needed and some fun stuff too - rafting, restaurants, etc. I highly recommend this property for families.

We stayed for 3 nights in July and used this house as our homebase to explore Yellowstone. The house was perfect for our extended family of 12. It has plenty of room, was very well stocked with games, puzzles, and everything you'd need in the kitchen, and the yard was great for the kids to play.

We stayed in this very beautiful, very clean and very well maintained house on July 27 to 29, 2023.
We love to come back the same house again. We appreciate greatly homeowner and Barbara Bush for designing and planning everything for the guests very professionally. Everything we need was available in the house with a stunning Mountain View.
Everything was very clean and well-organized. Never seen such a clean sauna. Looking forward to returning. Thank you!

Exceeded our expectations! Beautiful home and garden. Elk visiting the neighborhood. Fun for kids. Lots to do in and around Gardiner. Barbara was immediately responsive whenever we had questions. Grab this property for your vacation!

Short distance to Yellowstone North entrance and mammoth hot springs area for very convenient exploration of the park. Home is spacious, clean, well stocked, and has beautiful views. Owners had a generous bowl of snacks available as well as bear spray to borrow —thoughtful and necessary extras! Highly recommend !!

The pictures accurately portray the property but don’t do the views justice. The only reason I don’t give the property 5 stars on each topic is because it is difficult to find. Hopefully the property manager can update the directions in the check-in email to make it easier to find. Otherwise, I would definitely book this place again if we ever go back to Yellowstone!

Fantastic location for all things Yellowstone! Clean and private. The elk watching from the porch was the best. I would note that there is bear spray in the laundry room - a few of them. Check there first before you spend $50 on it at the store.
Overall - 10/10!!!!!

Barbra is a great host and this property was perfect for our group. With 5 couples staying at the property, we had enough room for all of us. Gardiner is a wonderful location to stay when visiting Yellowstone. So many restaurants close by and shopping. We were able to walk to almost anything we wanted. Wildlife were abundant around the property and it was so fun to see them every morning and evening. The home had everything you would need including snacks and entertainment. This truly was a home away from home and we stay here again in a heartbeat.

The house was AMAZING. Lots of space. Great for kids and babies. Great view. Great location for visiting Yellowstone and walking around Gardiner. The host was really kind and helpful. The driveway is really tucked in there so just pay attention to your GPS when you’re trying to get there. Highly recommend this property.

By far one of the best properties we rented. We stayed the first week of April, off-season for everything, but still plenty to see. Our mostly elderly 8-person group loved everything about the home. The views from the front are great, photos online do not do that justice. We watched animals all day every day. Nights are so peaceful, quiet, and beautiful. Barbara was great to work with, always fast and accommodating. She and Alan are very knowledgeable and helpful. The neighborhood was great. We enjoyed walking into town and to the park entrance on many days. Well-stocked neighborhood store nearby. The home is one of the best-stocked VRBO's we've had. Love the kitchen and large table, great for large groups. The beds are super comfy, the master bed is adjustable. Plenty of room to spread out, and hubby enjoyed to pool table. We just love this house. Already planning on coming back.

Fantastic location and beautiful home, we had a great time in Gardiner and be able to stay in this home added to the memories we made. Close to shops in the town and at the doorsteps of Yellowstone, it was a wonderful base for our week of adventures. Barbara answered all our questions and the house was well stocked. All in all, just a wonderful time.

Our experience at this home far exceeded our expectations. Everything was clean, spacious, and very family friendly. We particularly loved the 10 person dining table that overlooked the views of Yellowstone! The management was incredibly kind and easy to communicate with if there was a need. The house was very convenient to downtown Gardnier. We were easily able to walk into town to shop and explore.
Our family made new memories that will last us a lifetime!

I could not say more about this property and its host. Absolutely gorgeous view, house, yard etc .... I brought my husband who was unable to go in 2020 due to COVID and military guidelines, but he retired this year from the military and we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary, so I made sure he could go this time. I brought my dad too who is 67 and has never really traveled, so Montana was a bucket list item. I also brought our best friends who were celebrating their 26th anniversary and I brought my cousin (who was graciously able to park her small RV (she's a Montana native) out front so that she could bring her old doggy with her, as the house rules are strictly no pets, which we totally understood, but this was a wonderful accomodation that they allowed. (Many, many thanks). Our first morning we had Elk cows and calves literally in the driveway, we had huge bull Elks bugling literally at the back fence, we watched them for at least a couple of hours roaming the front and back yard area, it was amazing!!! Can't say thank you enough. Oh! Also....lots of clean towels, beach towels, bags for us to take rafting, coolers etc. Just a wonderful place to stay.

Let me start by saying that on our second full day at this beautiful house, historic floods hit and Yellowstone closed. Suddenly our plans to spend a week exploring Yellowstone were not going to happen. We had to decide what to do: evacuate when the roads opened or stick it out. We decided to stay, and I’m so glad that we did.
Turns out there is plenty to do in the area even without Yellowstone. We found some great hiking trails (thanks to our hosts!) and got to see amazing parts of the Montana wilderness we would not have seen otherwise. We took the kids on a beautiful ride through the mountains on horseback. And we spent time relaxing in the natural hot springs to wrap up our trip. If the river had been a little safer, whitewater rafting and fishing would also have been options. Gardiner is a really nice town to walk around, and the business owners and restaurants couldn’t be more welcoming.
The house is almost a destination in itself. It is as nice or nicer than it looks in the pictures, and our crew of cousins (7 kids ages 13 down to 2 years) had a blast. They spent lots of time running around the yard, playing pool, and roasting marshmallows around the firepit. We had board game tournaments with the games provided at the house, watched movies on the large TV (with microwave popcorn from the Gardiner Market!), and those of us who like to read had no shortage of books to choose from. Honestly, they’ve spared no expense to make things comfortable. Everything you can think of is provided. And the views are incredible!
As for the hosts, I can’t say enough good things about them. When the flood hit they checked on us to make sure we were ok; when the water was deemed unsafe from the flooding they brought us bottled water; when it looked like we might lose power, they brought us batteries for the flashlights; and when the park closed they recommended other trails and things to do in the area. Their kindness and a safe, comfortable vacation house saved what could have been a disastrous trip.
It wasn’t the vacation that we planned, but it was a lovely vacation nonetheless. If you’re reading this wondering if you should still come to Gardiner while the park entrance closed, I recommend it. You’ll get to see a beautiful part of Montana that’s a bit off the beaten path.

Great stay!
We had a wonderful time-this is our third time in Gardner and our favorite place to stay so far. The location is great - the grocery stores within walking distance. The kitchen had everything that we needed as well as condiments, basic supplies and snacks- not expected but definitely made it convenient. The beds were comfortable and the downstairs area was a hit with the kids/teens in our group. The host was quickly responsive for any questions that we had. We enjoy being in Gardner due to the proximity of Yellowstone national park – and would often see elk in the yard. The fire if it was also a nice as it was easy to use. As Gardiner has grown, there were more restaurants to choose from as well as a nice bakery next to the Conoco! Thanks for a great stay!

Winner. Winner. Chicken Dinner.
We stayed here during our first trip to Montana while visiting Yellowstone. Being so close to the North entrance made it easy to slip into the park early in the morning to enjoy the solitude and animal watching before the crowds arrived. Gardnier is the cutest little town. It has a great market and several good little restaurants.
The home exceeded all our expectations in every way. It is decorated nicely and is very welcoming and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and has everything you could need. The basement is insane and allows for engaging, fun family time whether playing games, shooting pool or hanging out by the fire.
The mountain views from the main floor are simply breathtaking. You can even see The Roosevelt Arch from the large picture windows.
We hated to leave and are already looking forward to our next trip back to the area and plan to stay here again.
