Wonderful way to experience nature/peace in a tourist location. Everything you need for a camping experience is provided (including smores) without the hassle. There is also a view of Mt. Rushmore from the back porch so you can see it 'lit up' at night. We had a thunderstorm during our stay and our tent stayed dry and comfortable. They even picked us up in a golf cart when we got stuck under the craft tent during a sudden lightning storm. We had two tents, and one member needed a C-Pap machine and they kindly brough a large charger so they could use it. The only complaint would be the abundant hornets (that were frankly everywhere we went in Southern S. Dakota...so not Under Canvases fault). It sounds like they were particularly aggressive this time of year due to winter coming, but it was annoying to deal with them whenever drink/food was present (even water condensation attracted them). Might be worth putting up more traps around the eating areas during this season.

First of all, we aren’t campers! Our tent was away from the parking so they had to take us to our place by way of a golf cart. Hannah was very helpful and friendly. She even helped carry stuff up the trail! Our wood stove was full of water from a recent storm. Joe was there right away to clean out the water and lay a fire for us. Hannah came back to give us a ride back up to the reception/restaurant area. We had a burger and asparagus which were good. Sat around in the reception area which had comfortable chairs and couches, waiting to see Mount Rushmore lit up at night. Got a ride back to the tent. Bed and linens were very nice. Slept well. We enjoyed our stay and our first camp experience!

Great location! And the food at the restaurant is yummy. Kind of pricey at $15-26 a meal. It was pouring down rain when we got there but they had bingo in the main lobby, that was fun. Very convenient drive to Mount Rushmore. You can enjoy a drink on their outside deck and take in the view of the monument, while also enjoying the stars. Bring a lock if you prefer as the tents do not lock. Not being able to lock up my stuff always makes me uncomfortable. The staff were super friendly and accommodating.

The minute we set foot on the grounds of Under Canvas at Mt. Rushmore, we were transformed into a serene, beautiful and uplifting surrounding. We got greeted by extreme friendly and helpful staff. They showed us around and we stepped on the communal deck overlooking lush green mountains and we saw Mt Rushmore. It was incredible and so breathtaking. Our tent was incredibly spacious, and the beds and linen were extremely comfortable. We slept so well during our stay that I had a hard time to leave the bed every morning. Only the free and very good coffee and the beautiful view at the communal tent made me get up every morning. The bathrooms are very clean and very efficient. We had dinner twice, and both times it very good. We were so impressed with every little detail and thought put in to create this beautiful vacation place. Under Canvas is true to its mission of sustainability and living in harmony with nature. We took advantage of so many activities they offered, like Yoga, making S'mores, the night hike, and painting your own postcards. We loved every little bit of our stay and have absolutely no complaints or suggestions to make it better. Thank you so much. We will definitely try other locations of Under Canvas.

Everything was great from check in to check out. Everyone was friendly, the tents were spotless and we had a great night's sleep. The only negative is that my son's tents shower had no hot water. He let it run several minutes. I'm guessing the propane was out.

Not worth it. Property stolen from tent, property says use their website next time for cheaper rates. 3 restrooms for 25 tents to share. Insufficient fans, lights and battery packs unhelpful staff

Staying under canvas was magical. In July 2023, the weather was perfect at night, the bed was super comfortable. We hiked the short trail around the property which was very scenic and filled with wild raspberries all around. The food at the property restaurant was delicious and very healthy. The overlook to Mount Rushmore was cool to see and watch it light up at 9:30pm. The property also had many board games to choose from for free and it was fun playing monopoly with my husband. Also they had complimentary sticks, marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers to make S'mores on a gas lighted pit nearby. Great place to stay! Hope to come back again one day and bring friends/family.

Great stay and I recommend a night or two for any family that wants the “experience” of camping but don’t want to deal with more hassle than a normal hotel. Very clean facilities and pretty good service even though much of the staff is young they are well trained. The experience is top notch and our family really enjoyed our stay and our one night here was probably a highlight of our entire vacation.

The location and views were spectacular! The tents were clean and we'll appointed. Love the conservation aspect. Maybe they could build covered parking with solar in top to run the camp completely with solar power! It would also be nice for guests when sudden "hail" storms happen. I also think ceiling fans in the tents would be nice. Even if there rechargeable batteries. I also think battery operated string lights could be nice throughout th camp. My only complaint is the food. Not enough options, and what was offered wasn't really conducive to all ages. Breakfast, lunch options and dinner were disappointing.

We checked in at about 4pm. Family of 5, a 7Mo old, 4 year old and almost 11 yo and 2 adults. We got the tent with the king bed with out the restroom. It was a cool experience with the exception of limited bathrooms and towels. They have board games and fun family activities including the night hike. Do not take the young kids to it . If you try to return from the hike, staff will not walk back with you. If you stay here bring a small cooler with food to keep in the car, grab towels at check in and know that you can get a small camping like bed for a child for $25. Food was ok. We also saw 5 deer within a 4 meter distance.

Clamping was fun, very glad we tried it. Tents were very nice and very fun. Having the wood stove was lovely. We knew ahead of time we would have to use the bath house which was fine. In the future I would definitely rent a tent with a private bath. The water conservation efforts in the bath house were annoying to say the least. Everything else was great!

Terrible service at check in/provided a tent that was clearly not set up. Not why I paid $600 to have to repeatedly call and walk to the reservation desk for service because the tent was poorly prepared (its not a close walk). Staff made up of college kids with genuine energy. But would not return based on price I paid for this experience.

I understand this is a glamping experience but if I’m paying over $300 a night even it may not have been a deluxe tent cleanliness should be above all on the top with service. Beds were very clean however our floors in our safari tents were very dirty, unswept, full of debris and hairballs??? Come on now, you’re paying for the name but some effort on cleaning the shared bathrooms and floors in tents should be a priority. All in all, our 3 night stay was wonderful

For "camping", this was the most comfortable way to do it. The beds were comfortable, the wood burning stove helped with the chilly temperatures at night, the grounds were very clean and the staff was very helpful. I'd love to visit other locations in the future!
