Lovely place. Good value for money and the staff are very kind. Stunning area.

Everything was perfect. Delicious food, very kind staff, absolutely loved my room right on the beach. Book BH1 if you can!
One night (out of five) was a late night party until 1-2am. Otherwise, ultimate peace and tranquillity.

I really enjoyed my time at Panga Chumvi. It’s located on a quiet beach with not so many beach boys and masais running around. The territory is rather big and well maintained. Rooms are clean, hot water, toiletries, kettle, mosquito net, a/c in place. Breakfast is good. I would recommend to take at least the half board option as there are not so many places around to eat and food in the restaurant is way better than in an average local restaurant in my experience on Zanzibar.
The staff is great, not intrusive, polite and Jamal makes sure you get what you want from your vacation.
The only thing that caused confusion was the room location, in description it says with sea view and expectations were that it would be in the front line, in reality the room was in the back behind restaurant and there was only little part of ocean seen. If it was called for example as a room with partial sea view, I wouldn’t have those expectations. But I was lucky that the hotel wasn’t full at the time and I got another room that was perfect for me.

Nice clean room, wifi, airconditioning, pool, garden, very friendly staff, great food, personal service, local atmosphere, beautiful quiet beach, easy to organize diving to Mnemba Island, perfect place to relax and for a getaway
It is perhaps somewhat difficult to get around without a car or organising taxi’s
4.4
Great rooms, good bathroom, direct access to the sea
Very basic breakfast. Pancakes were on the menu, but not available.
Nobody to do checkout
I had power cut for 1 hour
Far from the center and no transport available

Very nice accommodation directly on the beach. The complex is spacious and quiet. The rooms are nicely furnished and very clean. The staff is exceptionally friendly. Thank you very much for the nice stay!

We spent our honeymoon at Panga Chumwi and really enjoyed it. The staff is very supportive and friendly, especially the waitresses in the restaurant. The friendly General Manager organised snorceling and diving trips for us as well as the airport taxi - everything was very well organised and in time. We booked half board and really liked the meals. You can choose seafood and curry meals which change every day, but you also can choose from the menu every meal you like. They offer also pizza and burger, but excellence of the cook is definiately in preparing seafood. The hotel is very clean, they clean the whole hotel including the park every morning. On our last evening we had a very romatic beach dinner. The beach is very quiet, there are no shops around the hotel, you have to walk about 40 minutes along the white beach to the next small town. When there is low tide you can't swim in the sea, but the pool is very inviting. Don't forget your bathing shoes, as there are many sea urchins in the sea.
The water pressure is low in the first floor.

The room near the sea, the tidedff
Chairs of restaurant
lack of refrigerator in the room

Nice place, the beach is beautiful. It was empty when I visited.
The restaurant is overpriced

We really enjoyed Panga Chumvi, we enjoyed it so much that we did two bookings there on our Zanzibar holiday. The resort itself is very well kept-up, you would always see staff around making sure to keep everything is clean and tidy. Big compliment also to housekeeping, our room was extremely well looked after daily. All the other staff were also friendly and helpful, especially the manager Jamal, who also assists with booking of snorkelling trips, etc. Mnemba island is just opposite and there!is also a reef in front of the hotel, where you can walk to at low tide and see some interesting coral formations with colonies of small, colourful fish. Just make sure to wear shoes because there are literally thousands of sea urchins everywhere and it’s hard to avoid contact, especially when swimming. A big plus is the nice pool area, which allows swimming when the ocean doesn’t.

Bed was very comfortable.
Place for total relaxation. Nice sandy beach suitable for long walks.
Too expensive for what the hotel offers, especially the Restaurant. There is nothing much to do. (a bit boring) Internet was very slow. A taxi to the Airport costs 40 - 50 Euros. There are no other options available.
4.4
The room was very spacious and clean, the bed was comfortable. It is facing the ocean so you can hear the waves at night. The staff is very friendly

I spent a wonderful 20 days at Panga Chumvi. I was in Paradise:D. This is my second stay in Zanzibar and my first in Panga Chumvi. This is my most beautiful vacation ever !!!. I felt cared for and happy every day. Now I know that when it comes to Zanzibar it is only in Panga Chumvi. Upon arrival at the Hotel, you will be welcomed by smiling Manager Jamal, who is present at the hotel all the time. He is a wonderful person, he is always here to help, Thank you. Because this place is created by wonderful people who are always smiling, beautiful from the outside and inside with a great heart and empathy: Agnesi, Arabia, Heriethy, Kayaya, Kelvin, Liberatha, Thank you. Here I have to write about a kitchen that serves only fresh local produce. Everything tastes great! The breakfasts overlooking the ocean are priceless. Lunch, delicious dinner. You can talk to the Chef and he will prepare for you what you want. Thank you. Panga Chumvi is a magical place with a beautiful garden, singing birds and the characteristic sound of cicadas. All rooms decorated in African style, cleaned daily by beautiful smiling women, Thank you. It is a place for people who are looking for peace, respite, peace and intimacy. Panga Chumvi I wish you all the best. I sincerely hope to come back. I want and miss it so much. Grateful Beata.
Everything was wonderful.

The whole atmosphere of the resort and around is perfect, the people are awesome. Jamal, the manager was always there to help. The pool had a smaller part for small kids, with proper shade above.
There is big tidal movement at the beach. During low tide there is one kilometer dry shore with lots of urchin which makes it difficult to walk in. It makes the sea vey limited to swim or snorkel. Albeit, it is generally true for almost whole the east part of Zanzibar I reckon

Everything was Ok, beach is outstanding, staff was helpful ,some issues were solved immediately by manager Mr Jamal and Mrs Zaina ,we fell like being at home ! We reccomend this place if you want to relax and enjoy the nature!
Maybe a fridge in the room would help!
4.4
Location! Quiet beach, comfortable furniture on the deck right by the ocean. Room was clean and serviced every day. Friendly, accommodating staff. Delicious breakfast, very generous for Zanzibari standards.
Very low water pressure

We had a great stay at Panga Chumvi Beach Resort! The bungalows are right in front of the beach and you even have your own little terrace with sunbeds. Matemwe beach is definately one of the most beautiful beaches on Zanzibar, great for swimming and not crowded at all. There are a few restaurants in walking distances if you don‘t want to eat at the hotel restaurant every night.
The room was really clean and there is daily housekeeping with fresh towels. The breakfast was delicious and there are a few options to choose from. We arrived very late and they were waiting for us just so we could still have dinner, which was really lovely.
Staff and manager are very friendly and attentive.
We had an amazing stay and can recommend Panga Chumvi Beach Resort 100%.
Everything was perfect!

Location and friendly and helpful staff.
The quality of the food wasn't stable. The food was totally overpriced. The mattress in our room has seen better days.
4.4
Amazing staff, Jamal helped us in everything organizing programms etc.
The hotel garden is big and full of with trees, really relaxing.
The pool was really clean.
The food was the best, it’s not swedish table but you get enough.
We had breakfast (you get fruit plate, then you choose: omlette with cheese or without/spanish omlette/fried egg/poached egg/scrambled eggs and as an extra u get mushroom or beans. Then you can have a french toast or pancakes.
The dinner was also really really delicious, you can choose a starter 2types and then main course around 5types(chicken, seafood, beef, tuna) then dessert.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay far from the Covid circus, you can really relax here and if you need anything Jamal helps u and also Matemwe is like 20mins walk, where u can find some shops.

The view of the sea and beaches from their Restaurant was exceptional
They didn't have free wifi

Rooms are great. Our room had low water pressure and the manager (Jamaal) moved us to another room on the beach. Aircon fantastic in the hot weather. Great view. Jamaal helped us in booking a snorkeling act to Mnemba Island. He also took us to the clinic for our Covid tests. All staff very friendly.
The restaurant was a bit pricey with food and drinks.

We stayed 7 nights at panga chumvi resort (two adults, two kids, 3 and 1.5 yrs) and had the best time we could imagine
Property: the property of the resort is stunning with a nice garden, palm trees and with direct access to the sea. There’s also a nice pool with a kids area as well (perfect depth for our 3 year old but since there are large steps, even our little one could play there without problems). The rooms are situated in small houses across the property, so you always have the possibility to have some privacy.
The area of the hotel is a little bit outside of matemwe center, but you can easily walk 15 minutes along the beach or pass through the village and then you arrive at the „center“ where you find a small Mini market and some stands with fruits and vegetables. There is also a dalla dalla stop over there.
Food:
The food is extremely good at panga chumvi. We can’t understand the negative comments here. If you want to have the same breakfast as you have at home, maybe just stay there?!;) we enjoyed everything, the breakfast comes along with some fresh juice, a plate of nice fruits, and then you can get plenty of egg variations (boiled, poached, scrambled, omelette with cheese, vegetables …) and you can have pancakes or French toast. Everything is arranged so lovely and there is always something extra that is added, like cooked vegetables, salad, beans and a small donut… Then there is coffee, tea and toast with honey or marmalade.
For lunch and dinner there is always a daily menu, you can choose between 2 different starters, 5 different main courses and 2 desserts (the choices of lunch and dinner are different ) . The food was always excellent and the staff at the restaurant was amazingly nice with us and also and especially with our kids! Thank you for that!
Staff:
In general Jamal and his whole team where super nice. Everyone from the cleaning ladies, the gardeners to the restaurant team
Everyone made us feel very comfortable, it felt like family!
everything was perfect

Nice pool, nice garden, decent breakfast
High prices at the restaurant, very high price for laundry
Staff telling you not to go anywhere else for eating or booking anything outside the hotel

We had an amazing, relaxing stay. The garden with loads of plants is stunning. Felt like paradise with all the palm trees and sandy ground. It's very quiet and you only hear birds. We loved the african, traditional buildings and furniture made of dark wood. Sea view from the restaurant was beautiful though some beach boys tried to sell their stuff almost every morning during breakfast. Pool was also very nice as tide makes swimming difficult. It was mostly possible only in the afternoon. We enjoyed the food a lot, especially dinner was always delicious. You can choose between three dishes; mostly fish/meat/veggie. We were almost the only guests which was great! Maybe due to Corona... the hotel offers only 12 rooms. Service is fine if you don`t expect too much. We found the area very quiet and good for relaxing but also no shops available. Other restaurants are nearby when you walk along the beach but no kiosk or something. Transfer from the Airport was arranged by the hotel without any problems.
It felt like any local including hotel staff wants to take money out of your pocket. They charge you for EVERYTHING and make new fees every day! I wish I had known this before... it was weird for us. In the beginning everybody seems super nice and friendly but in the end they ask for money again. Ants in the shower and sometimes power breakdowns. They told us that electricity breakdowns are occasionally normal on the whole island. In the surroundings you can't reach anything and you're pretty much forced to take a taxi every time when you like to discover the area. Locals recommend not to walk in the dark outside on the beach or in the streets... it gets dark from 7 (at least in July)!
