We would recommend this home/lodge to any family company event or gathering. It is clean, beautifully decorated, comfortable furniture and beds, and the kitchen is stocked i with every appliance that you can think of. Last the outside decks and swing were very enjoyable in the evening.

Our stay at the Best of Canaan "cabin" (it's so bug it's difficult to refer to it as a cabin) was nothing but great. Being told ahead of time that the cabin was well stocked did not prepare me for just how well stocked it was. If you need to cook it, bake it, slice it (they have a meat slicer) you have what you need. A chef wouldn't know what to do with all of the kitchen equipment.Moving on to location. It couldn't be in a more centralized location based on the local attractions. Minutes from Davis, Thomas, and Blackwater falls. Short drives to caverns, Seneca Rocks, and Dolly Sods Wilderness.The cabin was clean and well stocked with towels. The check in was hassel-less took literally 1 minute.I could go on all day but in short I highly recommend this cabin and will probably go back.

We enjoyed our stay very much at this property. It provides direct access to the slopes, it is spacious and accommodating to multiple families. The layout provides privacy as well as a great, very well equipped kitchen, a beautiful large dining room and living room.
Unfortunately the representative of the management company was unfriendly and not accomodating. It left a sour taste in our mouth, but I would rent this place again at a heartbeat if I wouldn't have to deal with the same person again. I plan to address the issue directly with the owners.

We have been staying in Winterset for over 20 years over Labor Day weekend and this was the best time we have had! The house was the best ever and had everything you could imagine! Lorraine went above and beyond to help us rent this house again for next year. Our group loved this house!

8 adult siblings and significant others drove from 4 states to stay in this gorgeous house. More than enough bedrooms and bathrooms. Big and extremely well stocked kitchen allowed for easy meal prep. Large table we fit 14 adults around. Excellent hot tub. Great location. 15 to 20 minutes to Davis, Blackwater Falls, and Thomas.

Second year in a row for this house visited by a group of 12 fishermen and golfers. The house is well outfitted with nothing really missing or needed. The amount of refrigerator/freezer space is awesome and the kitchen has everything. There are two maintenance issues that we reported last year that it's hard to believe have not been addressed. First, the pool table is atrocious and, as reported last year, is in desperate need of refinishing. Second, the ceiling fan in the upstairs sitting room is not usable and needs replaced. It makes huge noise when run. Please repair/replace these items.

The Mountain Lair has been by far the best ski house anywhere that we have traveled! Right next to the slope! The entire house is more than stocked including the kitchen! Every kitchen gadget imaginable! A very cozy place to be with family and friends! You can tell that the owners keep up with everything!

My family stayed here January 2023, and it is the most perfect house for a big group! The ski in ski out is so convenient and located very close to the lift! The small amenities you usually don’t get at other places was great and the beds were the comfiest I’ve ever had staying away from home. A short drive from Davis if your group wants to go into town to Stumptown or get some burritos at Hellbender! I’ve been coming to Davis for 5-6 years now and this has been my favorite house!

This is our 4th time at this property. Last time there were some condition issues but they were all resolved this time. The only problem we encountered was one bed didn't have a headboard. It looked like it had just broken and not yet been replaced. We could have used more forks because we didn't have enough dinner forks for 20 people. We highly recommend Mountain Lair.

This was our first time in Canaan Valley, and we loved it! We enjoyed Blackwater Falls, Canaan Valley park & resort, the national nature preserve visitors center, and the towns of Davis & Thomas. The house layout was perfect for multiple families. Everyone could have their own comfortable space & privacy, and also spend time together in common areas. There was plenty of refrigerator, freezer and even crockpot & grill space to easily feed a large group quickly after a busy day enjoying the mountains.

The house was perfectly cleaned and maintained with really nice linens in all BRs and good furniture through out. I had a group of 9 full grown adult males who were there for a 3 day fishing/golfing trip and everyone was completely satisfied with the house. It lacked for nothing and was spacious enough to handle all of us. The decks provided good space to relax and great views. We did notice that the pool table has been around a long time so one day it could use either a new felt job or replacing. This group has seen many trips to Canaan and this house really fit our needs better than any other. Will definitely book it for next year's trip.

We are 15 family and friends who returned again to Mountain Lair. We have stayed at this property for the last 3 years in a row and several times before that.We loved the new living room furniture you put in this year.The house has everything you could want. Kitchen is very well stocked. Bedrooms are all good. Hot tub was nice and clean. When you walk in and around the house everything thing seemed generally clean The only negative we noticed this year was we saw a lot of dust on the light bulbs, door frames and woodwork. Looks like they cleaned good but neglected those areas for quite a while.. We will definitely return. Hopefully they will address this problem.

Since covid kept us home last year we wanted to get together this year. This was the perfect house for our family reunion. Plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms and room to visit inside and out. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed. Highly recommend for family gatherings.
