Room was clean. Limited choice for breakfast but good for the price.
Got charged for water at check out as hotel did not spicify what was/ not included as free. This spoilt the actual stay for us

This hotel isn't the Hilton by any means but if you are looking for a safe, clean budget hotel this would be it. Didn't see any bugs (we've had issues in other tropical hotels) and the room was very clean!

Bad wifi. Unsafe area for families. Smelly bathroom. Ok but not value for money. Should be cheaper

We had a terrible experience at this hotel. We were first checked into a room that hadn't been cleaned and were then moved to the adjacent room which happened to be right next to the elevator. The walls are thin and we could hear everything from the next room. The front desk agents who checked us in were less than courteous and had attitudes when we brought forth the deficincies. The laundry misplaced one of the four items we sent for washing and had an attitude when we asked them about the missing item. The bellwoman, doorwoman, housekeeing and lunchroom staff were courteous however we wouldn't recommend this hotel for future stays.

Nice place, nice staff but the area around the hotel does not look too good. There are markets, low class restaurants and shops around the corner.

I really liked my stay at Chelsea hotel. I chose it because it is close to the vibrant Kariakoo market area (the biggest market in all of Tanzania), but I ended up also liking it for other reasons. The staff were accommodating and helpful, and what I noticed was also that there seemed to be a good mood between the staff; it felt like they were a family who also Enjoyed working together. For me as a customer, that is a very good sign.
To be honest, the one flaw for me was their breakfast, which was not really that interesting for me. It was not Bad, and I think they did their best, but the Flavours of the breakfast food there was not to my taste. But I could get to the Al Ayman restaurant nearby in just a few minutes for chai with milk and breakfast that fitted my taste more, so this was not a big issue for me.
Overall, I was super pleased with this hotel, and I can recommend this 3-star hotel to anyone who wants to experience the Kariakoo area, and also wish to have a good experience at the hotel itself.
A shout-out to the roof terrace as well, which was Very nice (see picture).

Was just fine for a night stay until catching the ferry to Zanzibar next day. Room was clean and comfortable enough. Nothing fancy but nothing to complain about, got a good night sleep which was all that was needed.

The room was kept clean. The internet through wifi was not stable. You can go to the entrance to get the new wifi passcoad if the internet connection is unstable. The rooftop view was very nice.

Hotel is just ok staff is not really friendly. Although I prepaid everything but while checkout i got a surprise that i have to pay additional 40,630 Tanzania Shillings because their system is showing that and they don’t have any explanation to that additional amount and they keep calling it human error in the system which doesn’t make sense. I will probably won’t book this hotel again. If someone stay please don’t pay in advance

Breakfast is a bit sparse

Pros: Air conditioning, clean, has elevators, continental breakfast, blackout curtains
Cons: Small room, lumpy pillows and bed, noisy busy street, tv satellite didn't work, small lobby (can't really hang out there), terrible free parking garage (fits 3-4 cars and you have to go down a steep angle to get there and can be trapped in by other cars so we paid for expensive parking across the street)

I stayed here for 2 nights as a means to do the safari and Maasai village tour. The beds are super hard, The area is super congested and noisy, and the cleanliness of the room was downright disgusting. There was a strong sewage odor coming from the bathroom that made me nauseous. The shower head was so full of mold and soap scum I didn’t even bother to take a shower until I got to the safari. The lighting is dim, dismal, and depressing. I couldn’t wait to leave. The staff didn’t smile or seem friendly at all. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Cleanliness was good. Breakfast included was not impressive. We ate out after the first day. The staff (other than the cleaning) were not helpful and did not have a good attitude. When you are in retail - smiling and friendliness is a MUST. There are many people looking for a job and to not be friendly invites you to go look for another position where you can be miserable.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL FOR VARIOUS REASONS::
FIRST, LET ME START BY SAYING THAT I AM VERY AWARE OF THE DIFFERENCES IN EXPERIENCE I WOULD HAVE STAYING AT A HOTEL IN AFRICA V.S. A U.S. ESTABLISHMENT. SO, THIS IS NOT AN “I’M A SPOILED AMERICAN” COMPLAINT. EVERYTHING I’M REFERRING TO IS REGARDING MANAGEMENT, NOT THE STAFF/WORKERS::
1. THE MANAGERS DO NOT TREAT THE STAFF WELL AS I HAVE EXPERIENCED MANY OCCASIONS WHERE THEY WOULD TALK DOWN AND YELL AT THE TANZANIAN BORN NATIVES WHILE WORKING. ALTHOUGH THEY SEEM TO ONLY RESPECT THE FRONT DESK WORKERS.
2. THEY ARE CHEAP AND INCONSISTENT IN BUSINESS PRACTICES. I UNDERSTAND HOW EXPENSIVE ELECTRICAL POWER IS IN AFRICA, BUT WHY HAVE A FRIDGE IN THE ROOMS WHEN YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE POWER DISABLED EVERY TIME YOU LEAVE THE DAMN ROOM. GOD FORBID IF I HAD SOMETHING IN THE REFRIGERATOR THAT COULD GO BAD. AND I WONT EVEN TALK ABOUT THE SO-CALLED FREE BREAKFAST. THE OPTIONS WERE SO LIMITED THAT IT WAS SAD. I ONLY ATE THERE TO SAVE SHILLINGS. THEN EVENTUALLY STOPPED ONCE I TOOK SICK DUE TO SOMETHING I ATE.
3. I COULD BE WRONG, BUT IT SEEMS AS IF THEY INTENTIONALLY CUT OFF THE WIFI, EVEN AFTER HAVING THE AUDACITY TO TELL YOU THAT YOU ONLY HAVE INTERNET FOR FOR FOUR DAYS, NO MATTER HOW LONG YOU’RE STAYING. I FOUND MYSELF CONSTANTLY ASKING FOR A PASSWORD.
4. THERE IS NO CONCEPT OF PRIVACY WHATSOEVER AT THIS PLACE. THEY ARE CONSTANTLY LURKING AROUND EVERYWHERE AND SOMETIMES FOLLOW YOU TO WHERE YOU’RE GOING EVEN WHEN YOU DIDN’T ASK. MAYBE

I actually ended up staying there three times during my 2-month trip to Tanzania. The staff are superb and very caring. The location is downtown and very close to the ferry to Zanzibar. Great breakfast and very comfortable rooms with all the necessary modern commodities and a safe. I can’t wait to stay at this hotel again and have great memories from there. Please, remember to go to the roof and take some panoramic photos from there.
