About this house rental
"LOOKS STRAIGHT OUT OF POTTERY BARN" -The CHAUTAUQUA is the "Best Beach & Best House". Direct Oceanfront, it looks like it came “Straight out of Pottery Barn”. Rebuilt from the studs up to maintain the integrity of the original 1926 bungalow there is painstaking attention to detail from the Original Heart of Pine floors and reclaimed 1924 Bead Board to the New Stone Baths and 1st floor Stone Floor. There are 3 levels, 2 Kitchens, 2 Greatrooms, 6 Bedrooms, 6.5 Bath, a Giant Bonus room with 5 Beds + Piano, Pool Table, 3 Oceanfront Porches & Huge Oceanfront yard with Grill and Dining. Located with the Ocean right at your door there are No Long Catwalks over the dunes and No Cars allowed on the sand. You are walking distance of a Surf Shop with Bikes, Paddle Boards & Lessons + an amazing number of great Restaurants, Ice Cream, Pizza & Coffee shops yet only 5 Miles to Historic Downtown. There is plenty of room for 2 or more families, up to 21, to come together away from their daily grind, to enjoy each other, the sun & the surf and "create memories". It does not get any better than this. Need more space? See links to all 12 of my homes below both Oceanfront and Historic Downtown.
2 GREATROOMS - It starts with the Open Great room - 24 foot long – which acts as the main focal point of the house with the TV, Kitchen, Dining and 4 Bedrooms on each corner. I fell in love the minute I saw it and knew I had to restore it to is former glory. I think we surpassed it. We kept the original 1926 quarried Coquina fireplace (now with lovely electric flames). It is REAL Coquina - not what they make houses of now - Just like the Fort you will see in Old St Augustine! The Bead board wainscoted is also from the original house, carefully removed and restored. The floors are original Heart of Pine, sanded back to their original glory. They don't even grow wood like that anymore. Even the interior doors, all 8 foot, were patterned after the originals. There is loads of molding, all “in period”, specially milled. We even found the old picture mold with hooks for hanging photos instead of nails.
2 KITCHENS & 2 LAUNDRIES - Then we started adding the NEW touches. A state of the art Gourmet Kitchen. Full wood Cherry Mission cabinets with tumbled marble backsplash and gorgeous seascape metallic tile accents. The most unusual Granite I had ever seen. Looks like sand. The Main Kitchen includes Double Ovens, Microwave, Stainless Farm Sink and large Eating Bar and Honed Chisel-edged Stone floors. Downstairs is a second complete Kitchen with striking glass block backsplash, so plenty of room for all the cooks. Both with a full array of cooking tools, dishes, pots and pans to create your most cherished family recipes. Plus 2 Laundries.
6 DINING AREAS - There is a large Dining Table for 10 + Bar Stools on the Main level + a 1st floor Dining table for 7 + high 2 stool table. Outdoor we have 1 table on the Main Covered Porch + 1 on the open Patio & 1 on the First floor and 1 on the 3rd. Lots of tables.
FOR ENTERTAINMENT - A PIANO & GAMES. You have to have a Piano at a beach house. So we have a music corner with Piano, Guitar, flute and bamboo xylophone for your enjoyment. Games? Cards? I am big on games so there are lots of Board Games. Rummikub is our Family Favorite. Please try it. Call for instructions or Google it. I promise you will always be glad you did. We play it 5 to 95.
BONUS ROOM - POOL TABLE/WET BAR/KIDS HANG OUT/BALCONY OCEAN VIEW/5 BEDS/1 BATH - Most would agree that the 3rd floor BONUS ROOM is the show place. Whereas the adults will enjoy it for the full size POOL TABLE and WET BAR with antique corner sink and microwave for late night popcorn. For the kids, it is the SLEEPING BERTHS they will be fighting over. This is their place to "Hang". There are 3 Single Berths complete with individual reading lights, TVs, DVDs and under bed Storage Drawers for all their “stuff”. You will have to pull them away to get them down to the beach. Plus a Full Futon Alcove on the left that doubles as a bed and an extra Single Daybed/Couch, so 6 in all. The bath is a classic. All white subway tile wainscot with mosaic floor and glass inlay band in the tub/shower combo. The sink looks like a piece of furniture with Granite top & white Vessel Sink. And there is an UNSURPASSED VIEW from the Balcony. Arched and Covered recessed into the house for sun and wind protection, you can enjoy the view from another teak table and chair set and take some quite time to read a book from The Chautauqua's LIBRARY or play one of our Board Games listening to the surf.
3 PORCHES - The Oceanfront porch is probably one of the best assets. There are 3. This is where you will spend most of your time so there is LOTS of seating - All Teak Wood. On the Main Level we have Rockers & Adirondacks, benches & 2 sets of table and chairs – one on the porch and the other on the Patio. There is also an Upstairs Balcony off the Pool Table room and a Stone Covered Patio on the 1st Floor with more seating and glass toped dining.
OUTDOOR GRILL/SHOWER/BEACH CHAIRS - There are 2 outdoor showers. Plenty of Beach Chairs & Boogie Boards + Beach toys and Towels. Also a New Grill Trellis Area with Gas provided.
PARKING - There are 2 single garages and room for 2 more cars on the paver patio so that all 4 can get out. If you need more space there is room for 2 more cars but it will block the rest, so a total of 6 Parking Spots.

BEDROOM DETAIL - MAIN FLOOR - There are 2 OCEAN FRONT MASTERS both with full Stone Bathrooms. The first with a King Bed features a Coral Stone Bathroom. Off-white shell stone floors and walls with black stone accents and cabinets. It includes an antique CLAWFOOT Tub complete with Nickel fixtures and hand shower. Plus a RAIN SHOWER with HAND SPRAY, Two vanities with granite tops and gorgeous Kohler farm sink faucets, wonderful Nickel light fixtures and private water closet. The other Master with West Indies style Canopy Bed features a bath of taupe colored stone with inset blue glass, a SOAKING TUB/SHOWER combo, White Cottage Vanity with matching Storage Cabinet, Granite tops and Stone Vessel Bowl sink. Also done in Nickel fixtures. The 3rd Master also comes with a Private Bath. The walls are Bead Board with a Queen Canopy Bed + fold down single sofa. The bath has an old fashion Stone mosaic rug pattern floor and subway stone shower and wainscot. There is a unique circular white vanity with stainless accents plus White Storage Cabinet. Bedroom 4 also has a Bead Board wainscot with a Queen bed. It uses the Powder room and the Bonus Room Shower.
FIRST FLOOR - The 1st Floors has 2 Queen Bedrooms and 2 baths. One is Ocean side with Queen bed and Sliding doors out to a Covered Porch. It would use the Classic White Subway Garden Tub Bath that is shared with the Greatroom. The Second Bedroom, also Queen, has a Private Marble Bath with walk-in Shower and Spa style lighting and lovely mirror night light. There is also a Queen Sofa in the Greatroom that would share the Subway Tile bath.
All Bedrooms come with TVs. Plus Wireless Internet. Most with DVD players.
HOW IS THE BEACH? - Best in Town: Since Beaches vary so widely, I will try to point out the main differences. You should ask for details if you are considering anything other than a home with an address of 1st to 18th Street.
First, the Ocean is " Right At Your Doorstep”. There are no long dunes or raised boardwalks with a 5-10 minute walk to navigate with the cooler & chairs before you ever get to the water like at Butler Beach to the South.
Second, there are "No Cars". This is a major distinction. Imagine trying to play paddle ball with cars continually passing by & having to be on constant baby alert. Not while you are on vacation! Note everything south of our home, almost all the way to Marineland, allows "Cars Driving on the Beach".
Third, the beach is wide, level & private with "Great Waves". The Beaches to the North at Vilano and South Ponte Vedra are very narrow. At high tide there can almost be "No" Beach. And in some areas they are steep or with rocks. It's almost impossible to ride the waves as they break right at the sand. The locals consider the Chautauqua some of the best surfing around. There is a wonderful Surf shop with lessons & rentals right at the end of our street though you can have plenty of fun with the boogie boards we provide for free.
You can actually see my waves 24 hr a day on their website. They have a webcam on my house. To check it out, search Pit Surf Cam. We are also not crowded, which is important during this time or social distancing, as we have no High Rise Condos or Hotels nearby.
Fourth, we are walking distance to "Wonderful Local Restaurants". Who wants to cook every meal or have to drive to dinner. Just WALK. Check it out online. All great. Some with Music. Plus Ice Cream Shops and Pizza. All the beaches to the north and south are very isolated. You will have to drive for everything. Just ask and I will forward you my "Recommended Restaurants and Things To Do".
Fifth, you will love our "Powdered Sand". The Chautauqua's sand is like powder, not coarse ground up shells like Vilano. Great for drip castles which is our "Family Tradition". Check that out online too.
Last but not least, we are only " 5 Miles to Historic Downtown". There is more to St Augustine that just the Beach. Our Downtown,
founded in 1565, is the oldest continuously occupied European Settlement in the US and one of the Top 6 Florida destinations according to US News & World Reports. (They rank us #2 Best Affordable Honeymoon Destination and our Beach #5 in USA). You'll feel like you are back in time. Strolling Old World Walking Streets. Romantic Lighting. Outdoor Music filling the air. There are scores Historic Sights and fabulous Restaurants. I recommend going at night. With both the Beach and the History, St Augustine is truly a "Must Do" experience.

The house is perfectly located on the beach and next to a restaurant with outdoor patio overlooking the beach. Rooms are large and bathrooms are nice and clean. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is a BBQ grill in the back. She provides plenty of beach chairs and toys for young kids. Our party of 11 had a wonderful time. We will easily return to this property again

The house was better than we could’ve imagined and the location was even better. Everyone had a great time. Thank you!

Our family enjoyed our time here very much. There were 17 of us, ages 1 to 76, and the house accommodated all of us very well. The living space was a little small for the entire group, but there was plenty of room to sleep comfortably.
The house was very well equipped with good kitchen supplies, towels, and beach chairs/toys. We really enjoyed relaxing on the big porch and enjoying the view of the ocean.
Easy access to the beach was a big plus. We also enjoyed walking over to the nearby restaurants. It’s very convenient to the grocery store and to different attractions.
We had a few small issues that were quickly addressed by Linda and her team. They were all nice to work with.
It may be helpful to know that the main level and lower level do not connect on the inside. To access the lower level, you have to go outside.

We rented the property for a family reunion and it was lovely, beautiful house, comfortable beds, enough bathrooms and plenty of cooking utensils and cutlery, glasses, plates, etc. it is only 10 big steps to the beach. Has plenty of umbrellas, chairs, boogie boards, sand toys for all. We had a wonderful time and hope to be back!

Great location. Was not handicap accessible as was communicated but Linda immediately rectified it by getting a ramp for our family member in a wheelchair. Thank you Linda!

The property location was top of the line. We had 12 senior adults for a “cousins reunion”. The accommodations were first rate. Plenty of room, a great deck with outstanding view of the ocean. Highly recommend this property and dealing with the property manager.

Perfect oceanfront house by several restaurants and a not-so busy beach. Comfortable beds. Lower level with separate entrance.

We had a big family group with lots of little ones and being able to just walk out the door to the beach was great!
We walked just over the sand dunes to eat lunch at a cute little local seafood restaurant and going into St Augustine was easy and close too! The backyard was a plus too, we had an Easter egg hunt and the kids played while the adults relaxed in all the beach chairs provided. Great back porch with rockers, the beautiful sunrise every morning was amazing.

This was my second stay here. You really can’t beat the location! The house works really well for a group, we had 9 adults and everyone had their own bed plus lots of bathrooms.

Great location and home which accommodated 21 family members for a reunion. The kids loved the loft. It was great being right on the beach. It was a very busy time in St. Augustine with the Christmas and New Year's holiday but the beach was not too crowded and so it was pretty quiet. We loved watching the fireworks at the Pier right from the deck. We got an extra bonus being able to watch multiple launches by Star Link. So cool. We did plenty of cooking, including outdoor grilling though there are SO many restaurants within walking distance. Easy communication with the owner. We'll definitely be back.

I can’t thank Linda enough! From our first correspondence she was helpful, professional, and accommodating. I appreciated her quick responses to my questions and her very quick deposit return – which has not been my experience with other hosts. We have a large family and coming all the way from Oregon to Florida for Christmas was a big deal for us, so walking into the house for the first time and finding it decorated for Christmas was the perfect extra touch. The accommodations were perfect for us allowing each of us a little privacy and a lot of family space to spend together. The main floor kitchen was well stocked allowing us to feed our large group with ease. My 82-year-old parents were able to spend the bulk of the days on the back porch taking in all the family activities and the beauty of the Florida beach. I have no doubt that this Christmas will be remembered of as one of our favorites! Thank you, Linda!

We spent Thanksgiving this year at the beach. This is a wonderful home with an excellent location. We found it perfect for the mixed ages with adults and kids and enjoy the recreation space above and easy access to the beach.

Our family loved the location which had a wonderful view and immediate access to the beach. The house was well maintained with plenty of room both indoors and out for our group of 11 adults. Our first night at the house, there was a problem with the dishwasher. Linda had arranged for it to be repaired ASAP.

Lots of bedrooms and a separate ground floor apartment with several bedrooms plus the top floor "bunks" (which were great for college kids) made this a great choice for our large group. Tiki bar restaurant is basically next door and had delicious food. Beach was gorgeous.

We couldn’t have picked a better location for our family. The house was spacious for our large group and well equipped with everything we needed. We loved the front yard and the easy accessibility to the beach. We hope to have another family reunion again here soon! We would highly recommend this home for your vacation.

Renting and staying at this property was a pleasure from start to finish. Linda, the property manager, was a joy to work with and always responsive if we needed anything. The property itself worked extremely well for our large family. The main kitchen was well stocked with dishes, serving pieces and utensils. There was plenty of sleeping spaces for everyone. Plenty of bathrooms to accommodate 12 adults and 6 children. The children loved the bonus room with beds for them, a pool table and plenty of games. There were boogie boards and plenty of chairs for the short walk to the beach. The attention to detail in this amazing property was appreciated. I would highly recommend this property to anyone that needs a house on the beach for large group get together. We loved it!

My group stayed at the house for a friends vacation. The property was amazing, just as advertised. Such easy access to one of the nicest beaches we have ever been to. Linda provided plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas, as well as some boogie boards for us to use! House was clean and plenty of space for our large group. Any questions I had about the house Linda was quick to respond to via text. Highly recommend this property or any of Linda’s others, everything was perfect!

This oceanfront beach house is fantastic. All 12 of us who stayed for a week, enjoyed every second of our stay, It was clean with so many amenities. We utilized the entire home and we were all comfortable. The bedrooms were all well appointed and having two kitchens was a plus. The upper level bunk room was a big hit with kids and adults loved the pool table. There are just not enough adjectives which can express how great this home's location and ocean views are. Sitting out on the porches watching the sunrise and listening to the waves all day was so relaxing and enjoyed by all, and the beach was great for swimming. My spouse and I could not have picked a better place to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with our children and grandchildren. Thank you for opening your wonderful home. It is a vacation that will be remembered for years to come.

The lawn and beach access were wonderful. The quality of the beach, cleanliness and natural beauty was amazing. The house fell short of expectations only by a small factor. The bedrooms are adjacent to the main living area which makes restful uninterrupted sleep dicey. Also the downstairs bedrooms are accessed by going outside the house and through another entrance- challenging for leaving sleeping children to attend upstairs social activity. The lack of secure locking on doors and especially garage doors was also a concern. The house deck was the highlight and overall value was very good.

Although my husband got very ill from his Leukemia and was hospitalized --- Our adult kids and grandkids had a wonderful time decompressing and enjoying the beach. Great memories made. Was perfect for our family to be together.

We had a wonderful family reunion and loved being able to all be together in one house. The house is very spacious and comfortable. We loved having access to the two kitchens. The best part of this location is the access to the beach.

Our entire family enjoyed our stay at this beach house! The location was perfect, the rooms were exactly as shown/described, and the kids loved the third floor private bunk area. Plenty of seating, kitchen supplies in both kitchens, and an overall wonderful stay! My mom and sister loved having the basement area as a separate unit from my in-laws/my husband's family. It worked out perfectly, and we enjoyed Beachcomber Beach Bar several times as well. Our only recommendation would be to put a lock on the general/shared bath off the kitchen. Several people were walked in on due to no way to lock that bathroom door.

The house is just magnificent. We had everything we needed. It was beautiful but comfortable...our teenage kids had their own "apartment" and they loved it! it's steps from the beach and has its own sand area for play....great memories.....thank you

The Chautauqua was the perfect spot for my extended family to spend our vacation! Our group of 14 ranged in age from 1-70 and this home fit our needs perfectly. The location is fantastic - right on the beach plus walking distance to coffee, ice cream shops and beachside eats. The home was great for our large family, with a homey vibe, and the grass and sand area out back were a hit for our under 10 crowd. Parking was no problem at all and Linda offered so much helpful information before our stay that we had no trouble getting quickly acquainted with the home. A great trip!

We loved it there. Hot water stopped. No fault of theirs and they replaced it immediately. We cook a lot and they had everything you need to cook well
