We really enjoy staying at this cottage. The location can’t be beat. The state park pass is such a nice perk! We used it daily at Reid State and to climb Mt Battie. The cottage was a nice home away from home for us. There are dirt roads within walking distance that are great to walk on every day. It’s a super place to relax and watch the tidal river.

Enjoyed hiking local trails(great mushroom foraging). The highlights of the trip were climing over Morse Mountain to the beautifu remote Seawall beach having a picnic and doing a little boogie boarding (two mile hike each way, bring bug dope), and taking a boat ride out to cabbage island in Boothbay for an old fashioned clam/lobster bake. Also just enjoyed sitting on the screaned in porch playing cards and enjoying the wild life. Loved the Georgetown country store!

Just what we needed, secluded and peaceful, but easy into Bath where we have family. Only issue was with wifi. The Network name and password in the check-in email and the name and password posted in the cabin were different and neither one worked, but we quickly figured out that the right name and password were on the router box that was in plain site. No problem.

It was everything we had hoped for and more! The cottage was charming and perfectly sized and appointed for us. The grounds were delightful...it was a joy to sit on the screened porch with a coffee, overlooking the waterfront. We loved being able to walk the nearby trail with our pup each morning, and renting a canoe right up the road couldn't have been a more convenient and pleasurable addition to our trip. We also loved the entire area of Georgetown/Five Islands/Bath...it was quiet and off the beaten path when it came to having too many other tourists around, but still plenty to do every day! Katie was a great host and will definitely book again if looking to stay in the area.

Cozy Cabin
Small & intimate cabin on a bucolic tidal river offering a beautiful view & spectacular sunsets. It’s a short drive to Bath for essentials & there is plenty to do & places to go along the Maine coast within easy driving distance. AND dog friendly!

Quaint & quiet
This was a great little cottage that provided all we required.
The screened back porch overlooking the ever changing tidal river was where we spent the majority of our time. It was the perfect place to get away from it all.

What a lovely spot. We very much enjoyed our stay here. The pictures describe the cabin well. But the ambience of the peninsula and locale on the river is even better than imagined. It is welcoming, inspiring and peaceful. We enjoyed kayaking, fishing for stripped bass, reading and playing guitar on the screened in porch, baking and cooking meals together as a family, as well as hiking and exploring the island and immediate area. Lovely ~

Perfect Getaway!
Our weeklong stay at this cottage was perfect! We enjoyed the serenity and solitude. The tidal river was fun to watch as we sat on the screened in porch. The cottage is perfectly located for beach days at Reid State and the park pass was such a nice perk! There are great roads for safe walking and we had fun spotting deer on our walks. I would definitely stay here again.

When entering the cabin it was noted that it was not clean, dirt, food crumbs, paper, a sock, hangers on the floor, etc.We never saw or heard from the managers/owners or whatever they were. The grounds, though we realize it was in the woods, were unkept, overgrown weeds and generally not appealing. The amount of spider webs in the house and on the porch, which some were inhabited with rather large spiders, were incredible. We notified the managers/owners (twice) that we were not using any of their linens (which we did not ask for) pots, pans, coffee pot we never got a response to our email. This is why I hadn't written a review as soon as we arrived home, as I wanted to make sure that we received our deposit without any problems. We have rented homes in Maine and Cape Cod on several occasions and have never encountered the poor quality that we experienced at the Georgetown, ME location. If this had been our first rental with VRBO it would have been our last. We are renting a home in New Hampshire through VRBO next July and hopefully we don't have a repeat of being disappointed. We ended up leaving on Friday morning as we had seen and done the things that brought us to this part of Maine and the cabin was not comfortable or pleasing enough to spend a day there.

Georgetown Cabin. July 2019
The cabin was very clean and cozy. The bed is very comfortable! The owners truly provide everything necessary to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable. I would definately recommend these cabins to anyone looking for a true Maine experience! So close to the beaches and many other quaint Maine coastal towns. A truly enjoyable experience ! Thanks

Great quiet place to stay. Made a great "home base".
This is a great place to stay, especially if you don't like crowds. My sister and I used this as "home base" to explore coastal Maine - Portland, Boothbay Harbor, Freeport, and all the attractions in the area. I only have 2 things I'd like to make note of. 1. You need to bring your own drinking water as the well water is hard and doesn't taste great. 2- the stairs to the loft are very steep and I wouldn't advise it for older people not steady on their feet. But my sister and I loved the cabin and would definitely stay there again if we ever head back that way. Owner was super nice to work with.

Fantastic. Beautiful. Peaceful.
Great place, really nice people.
We got to meet the owners on the first day. They were warm and welcoming. Everyone we meet was very friendly (their dog Otto seems to love new people). The Cottage was small and cute, with everything we needed, we spent most of our time in the screened in porch just taking in the view. While we went in early June and so it was too cold to go swimming this place is very close to Reid State Park, and we had a great time walking around there. There is also a great little wooded hike to a small lighthouse nearby that was a fun picnic spot. The Cottage's little kitchen had everything we needed to cook all our meals, and there was a grill provided that we used as well. I took one star off of accuracy of online listing because it lists a fireplace/fire-pit, and this cottage did not have a fireplace, and the fire-pit options were communal. (This might also be because we where early in the season) It did not effect out stay. All in all we had a great time, and I would very much recommend this place. We are already thinking about planning another trip here, maybe next time with some family or friends to try renting one of the bigger cottages. Thank you guys so much for our great week!

Loved it
We loved the cabin and the area!! We really enjoyed Reid State Park, it’s the most beautiful park I’ve ever been to! We are very happy with our choice to stay at The Back River Bend Cottages and will definitely stay again if in the area! Being able to bring our dog was great!!

Perfect spot to reset your mind from daily stress...
A gem! Perfect sized cabin-in-the-woods for two people, with a view of the Back River. We sat a lot on the screened in porch looking at birds, the tide and boat life. We rented kayaks a couple of days and went upstream with the tide and returned when the tide turned. I should stress that motor boats were very polite and slowed down every time we encountered one - and that was not many, so no worries if you are a "newbie" to kayaking, like we were.
Very quiet spot in spite of the nearby boat yard operation. So close to Reid State Park with a very large sand beach...
"Lobstah shack" (Five Islands Lobster) at the end of Rte 127 on Georgetown Island - a "must visit" place, if you are into fresh seafood.
What about the cabin?
==================
* Close to Bath, state parks and general mid-coast scenery - a great "hub" for exploring the area, museums, parks, hiking... art...
* Upstairs bedroom plenty big for the two of us
* Nice screened-in porch to enjoy a breakfast or a glass of wine in the evening, or any other time you feel like just sticking around and read a book or making sure that the tide comes in as it should
* Comfortable sitting area downstairs
* Kitchen is well equipped, but a little small to work in
* Bathroom is also well equipped - maybe a bit small for my liking, but for a week or two, it really does not matter
* TV and Internet - who watches TV when you are in Maine on vacation? The Internet came in handy when looking for activities, places to visit, maps, etc.
* Kayak and canoe rentals, several sizes and styles to match our (in-)experience level
The landlady Katie Francis is a real gem as well; she is a great source for information about the area and very accomodating. A pleasure to meet.
Great two weeks for us!

Absolutely Delightful!
A beautiful place on the river. The sunsets were amazing on the screen porch. I look forward to going back.

Quaint, cute place good for two people
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage very much! easy access to Reid State Park and other attractions like Five Islands Lobster Co., the Osprey and Robinhood meetinghouse all of which we loved! we went to all the suggested places on the fridge and the beach pass was a definite plus. Didn't do linen service which was fine for us as we just stayed a week and brought extras. would recommend it- Bring bug spray!! most people probably already know this about Maine but I was definitely impressed by the mosquito population :)

Property is set along a beautiful private road and cabins have a great rustic look
We had such a great time at this cabin, as it was located perfect distance from places we wanted to visit. It was very clean and had all of utensils needed to make your stay enjoyable.
The view of the back porch onto the river is a perfect scene when the sun is rising/setting. There is not a lot of noise from boats or people driving by as you are set back far enough from the street.
The only change I would make on my next trip is getting a bigger cabin as I went with my girlfriend and two dogs so we could've used some more space, but it is perfect for a couple people. I highly recommend staying with Back River and will most likely stay here again next year (in one of the bigger cabins)!

Just the basics
Cottage was clean and had beautiful view of the Back river from the screened porch to watch the tides change and the boats come and go. All the basics needed as a base of operations to see the sights of mid coast of Maine.

A little slice of paradise!
I've vacationed in Maine many many times. This was the first time I stayed on Back River Bend and I will be back.
I can't tell you how many times one of us said " this place is perfect". It was so quiet that at times the pine needles falling and hitting the leaves of other trees sounded like soft rain. Wildlife abounds, during the course of our stay we spotted a bald eagle, a seal, whitetail deer, loons, other diving water birds and many other animals, all from the serenity of the screen porch.
Georgetown Island is centrally located about mid coast Maine. Making it an ideal location for our day trips via motorcycle. By far my favorite day of our stay was spent on the island. There is plenty to do without leaving the quiet of Georgetown. There are two lighthouses on the island, the light at Squirrel Point is a pleasant hike from the dirt road, a definite hidden gem. The Restaurant at Robinhood is delicious and the prettiest view you can imagine. Reid State Park is a gem, the proprietor at Back River Bend supplied a state park pass that gets you into the parks for free. The village of Five Islands is so charming as is the Five Islands Lobster Company restaurant, with delicious fresh seafood and ice cream.
Georgetown Pottery is worth a stop for a memento of your stay. Being we were on motorcycles we didn't have room to take our purchases with us but they shipped them for us for a small fee.
We could have spent a few days just exploring Georgetown Island.
Plenty of Maine tourist attractions are within a short drive.
The cabin is very clean and comfortable. A great place for two. Soooooo, peaceful and quiet! We had one minor problem with the stove but it was fixed promptly.
There is a working marina on the property which is a good way to observe a real taste of Maine. The docks and trails on the property are all accessible to guests and provide plenty of photo opportunities.
Ruth and Sam are very friendly, but also are polite enough to allow you to enjoy your solitude if you like.
Whether you're looking for a base from which to enjoy all of mid coast Maine's popular attractions or you're looking for a place to relax and unwind in quiet solitude, Back River Bend is perfect!
My only complaint about my stay at Sasanoa Cottage is that I had to leave!
Thanks so much to our hosts for sharing this little slice of paradise. We'll be back!

This place is a gem
My husband and I stayed at the Sasanoa cabin for our wedding anniversary. We brought the two dogs with us, which was great. We had an awesome time! Ruth and Sam were very accommodating, helpful and friendly. The grounds there are beautiful and quiet. You can see seals swim by in the river behind the cabin - so cool! Don't forget to bring bug spray, as there are lots of mosquitoes in the area. There's lots to see and do nearby - Ruth leaves a pass for the beach. There's a nearby restaurant, Five Islands, that serves an amazing lobster roll and you can bring your dogs with you and sit outside and eat. Maine is a very dog-friendly state! We ended up going into Portland, which is only about 40 minutes away and caught a Whale Watch. We also went to see the Buddy Holly show at the local theater in Brunswick - it was fantastic!!! There's a good balance here - lots to keep you busy and lots of opportunity for relaxation. We did a little of both. We will most definitely come back. Thanks so much Ruth & Sam! - Jen & Jimmy

Great place. Strongly recommended. Will come back.
The perfect place to spend a few days together after 33 years... The cottage is well furnished. Location is secluded but within a few miles of activities. The kindness of the owners adds to the natural charm of the place. I have recommended this property to friends.
