About this villa rental
This 18th century fortified house is our holiday home so has been restored to our tastes. The musket ports have been excavated and illuminated to maintain the ancient character and, although one of the largest houses on the Bay, we have avoided dividing it up for maximum rental income. There are four generous bedrooms, two sitting rooms, one in the double height loft, and a hand made kitchen with Bosch appliances. TV and wifi are available and beneath the limestone tiles is underfloor heating. (We've now added a third bathroom.) A terraced garden rises to the rear of the house, in front steps descend into the sea.
Muo is an old fishing village with a shop, quay and restaurant. One can swim past sailing ships mored at the marina or walk up the mountain on ancient paths. Kotor is a stroll along the water front. Our hope is to give guests the best possible holiday at a reasonable price.

Our week in Muo was everything I had hoped for. The house was a in a quiet neighbourhood at the water’s edge. We swam every day. From the house we could walk to Kotor. In the other direction we could walk to a small resort with a nice hotel we had a couple of excellent meals. From Muo wee were able to take a water taxi to Perast, another spectacular coastal town. All in all a perfect week with loads to do, or just peace and quiet to sit and read.

We really enjoyed our stay in Muo. The house was spacious and the beds comfortable. The road in front is busy and narrow, so you have to use caution when leaving the front door. Close to a small grocery store and a 20 minute walk to old town Kotor. The views all day long were stupendous.

The property overall was excellent. Fabulous design features, spacious, comfortable beds.
Here are a few recommendations for the owner:-
- provide candies/torch (we had lots of power cuts!)
- the garden furniture is old and needs replacing
- more ceiling lights. The downstairs living room is very dark
- lights for the garden
- a shower in tne ground floor utility area would be an excellent addition
- provide a dustpan and brush
- bins in the bathrooms
- a bathroom cabinet would be useful
- first floor shower room door does not shut

Fantastic stone waterside house
The house was ideal for our family break. We only stayed 4 nights but being so close to airport and within 25mins walking distance of the old town, it was a lovely break and we didn't need to hire a car. The road outside was busy but not all the time and we had no children in our party so this was not an issue. The house was so spacious and comfortable and had everything we needed. The local shop 5 mins up the road was very useful and well stocked and had a very helpful assistant. We loved being so near the water both for the amazing views and for swimming. We ate most nights in the old walled town of Kotor, easily walkable but got a taxi back as quite cheap and easy to get. We walked into Prcanj the next town to Muo (recommended by Nick) one evening, which was lovely and took a bus to Perast another day - a very pretty place. The more energetic of our party walked the high walls in Kotor and saw wild tortoises, while us less agile members walked round the lower walls and explored the city. We had a great stay and would highly recommend the house though bear in mind the house is on several storeys and had quite a lot of stairs. The views across the water from the living room windows are perfect. Montenegro is lovely - we would love to see more of it and we felt it was far less commercialised than neighbouring Croatia.

Magnificent!
We loved everything about the house and the location was perfect. A dip in the fjord in the morning was really special.
Thank you so much…… we will be back.

This property was nothing short of spectacular - views of Kotor Bay, 5 minute drive over to the Old Town and a well designed/maintained space inside loaded up with everything you could need to enjoy the stay. Can’t say enough about this place and would recommend it to anyone looking to really enjoy Kotor.

Extraordinary location and property
A wonderful, high quality holiday experience in all respects. The Kotor waterfront and mountain backdrops are magical. The people warm and friendly and numerous high quality restaurant options.
Owner of this amazing property Nick and manager Marina were extremely helpful and informative and helped make our holiday experience all the better - thank you both.
This part of Montenegro really is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

Historic, Beautifully Restored Home in a Stunningly Beautiful Location
Villa Nick is a beautiful, historic, lovingly restored stone house located on the waterside in the village of Muo. If you are lucky enough to stay here, you will be honoured with the very best view in Montenegro. Without a doubt, one of the most stunning views you will get to experience, from almost every room. Waking up and watching life on the water as boats, large and small come and go, the sunlight changing on the water and mountains makes you not want to leave to discover anywhere else. From Villa Nick you can see the whole bay, across to UNESCO World Heritage site of Kotor old town and you are surrounded by spectacular mountain ranges. Now onto the house! It is utterly stunning, restored lovingly, with contemporary and designer bespoke fixtures, fittings and furniture. You enter into a contemporary Kitchen Diner, it has the best equipped kitchen I have experienced in any rental property, everything you could need. Excellent cooking facilities as well, great table, sofa area to look out onto the bay. The house is over 4 levels (inc a mezzanine) , the stone walls are as they would have been 600 years ago, the new staircases contemporary, the lighting throughout the house is brilliantly designed, setting off the brickwork and original features of the house stylishly, other lights modern and great for reading, etc. I loved the wall lights through the house, they look fabulous, they could be made from old roof tiles, perfect in the house. The bedrooms are all excellent, roomy, great beds, wardrobes, draws and storage all-new, all stylish, all matching. One of the wow factors of the house is the upstairs sitting room, set in a vast room, 3 large shuttered windows that once upon looking out across the bay, vaulted high wooden ceiling, stone walls, huge, huge red velvet sofa and chairs, perfect for movie watching and chilling with family/friends. Then, a mezzanine level with another bedroom, this one ensuite and with a bath you can use whilst looking out to the stars. The house has a walled garden and we spent our time on the loungers by the water, you can walk directly into the bay from steps next to the house. We had a wonderful holiday, at the house and oit on boats. I cant wait to return. It's like discovering a little bit of heaven on earth. Thankyou to the host Nick for being so welcoming and helpful, friendly and for his dedication in rescuing and renovating the house and sharing it with others. ***** 5 stars from me!

A stunning house just by the sea!
A spacious house just a few steps from the sea. Easy access to the sea makes it perfect if you like an early morning swim.
A fantasic view of Kotor bay. There is a local grocery shop just a short walk from the house.
It takes 30-40 minutes to walk in to the Old city. It is a narrow road with quite a lot of traffic.

Magic impeccable luxury right on the adriatic
This villa is impeccable luxury. The villa has been totally redone with exquisite workmanship and care and it is sparkling clean. Everything in the villa is quite marvellous yet super comfortable. The pictures are accurate but living there is magic. It has a fabulous atmosphere all the way through. The views are stunning. The living space is huge. The pier is your own private piece of heaven with stairs right into the crystal clear Adriatic where you can swim or float or fish or snorkel or just dream. And have a nightcap at the end of the night. Kotor is a short 15 minute walk and is an incredible glorious ancient town. Unesco world heritage but that does not describe the vibrant life of the town that comes alive at night with endless wonders around each corner. The physical beauty of Montenegro is staggering. And the people even better. Friendly with warm smiles and hearts and extremely welcoming. This is a place like no other. The neighbours at villa nick remain in our hearts. Most people speak English and all will make your stay easy and you will be welcomed with down to earth smiles. Waking up and looking out the window every morning is breathtaking. Running swimming walking or lazing around your own pier is equally breathtaking. No crowds. Your own piece of heaven. Right at your door. And yes the road is right outside your door. It was not an issue for us. In fact it became a fascination for one of us. He would have his morning coffee right outside the door and see some of the same cars driving by and after a few days they would honk and wave. And then you see them in town and they happily wave hi and say, I see you every morning. We went to Budva and the beaches one day- all beautiful (and super crowded)but nothing beats this place. We ate out every night. Every meal outstanding. This villa had my highest recommendation You can book with confidence. Nick is fantastic and responds quickly to every note. This is also his piece of paradise and his love for it shines through. This is everything you see in the pictures and more.

What a fabulous house and what a fabulous place! The house had everything you need for a very comfortable stay, (including sharp knives! So many places have blunt ones). As others have said, it is a pity the house opens directly onto a very busy single track road but we got used to it and it didn’t spoil our stay. Having the private sitting area and steps down into the sea was fantastic! Our 6 yr old grandson was in snorkelling every day! The house is beautifully furnished and is large and spacious. Our party included 6 adults and 1 child and we never felt we were on top of each other. The air conditioning was much needed and much appreciated. The garden at the back was lovely and we appreciated picking a lemon or two to garnish our gin and tonic! The position of the house was perfect. It was a very short walk from the local shop and a lovely local restaurant and close enough to Kotor to reach it easily but far enough away to enjoy the view of it. The market selling local food products was great but local supermarkets were also well stocked. The local wine and beer are good quality and good price and there are several restaurants ranging from reasonably priced to expensive. There are lots of activities to do in the area and we enjoyed a boat trip, visiting Lake Skadar and walking up to the medieval fort but it was always fantastic to return to the beautiful Villa Nick. 6 adults sharing the one shower was a bit of a pain but we managed and the water was always hot and the shower was powerful. Before booking I emailed Nick the owner several times with lots of questions and he always answered so quickly and gave us good information and advice. We arrived late at night and had a bit of a problem contacting the manager to gain access but we eventually did and all was well. Due to this difficulty we marked the scores down but it didn’t make a difference to our overall score of 5. Thanks Nick for allowing us to stay in your gorgeous house. We had a great holiday, we have fallen in love with Montenegro and with Villa Nick. You won’t be disappointed so don’t hesitate to book!!

We stayed for 10days in July this year. Took the whole family and their partners, and all enjoyed the stay and universally loved the house. The walk into Kotor is approx. 20mins which was great in the evening there’s a couple of small bars on the way. Local shop is fine and there are some great restaurants in the direction of Tivat that are walkable. Local bus is cheap and reliable, local taxis are very good too. The only addition I think the property could benefit from would be a downstairs toilet shower. Having said that the house is pretty much perfect and I would thoroughly recommend it.Forgot to mention the neighbours, they don’t have much English but we got by and they were most helpful with buses etc , they’re fishing was entertaining too.

Terrific rehabbed stone house. Very interesting and special. Plenty of stairs. Only one and a half baths. Great views of the old city and the fjord. Would stay there again.

Fabulous house with wonderful views!
What can I say? This house is beautiful and so elegantly furnished. The views are stunning. Our days were spent relaxing and swimming in the Bay of Kotor. Then a leisurely walk to the Marina just outside the walls of old town for dinner at Galion - more beautiful views and delicious food with a great ambience. After a great night's sleep we would wake the next day for more of the same. Wished it could have lasted forever. We'll be back next year.
Thank you, Nick and Marina, for all your suggestions and for making our holiday so special.

Not very comfortable
Muo and the property were not either comfortable nor enjoyable. I know that the owner of the property made a very great effort, but the result was quite shy of success.

Wonderful location and hosts!
We just returned back yesterday from our trip and we are already wishing we were back in Muo. We had a wonderful time and so much of it had to do with where we stayed. Nick's house is amazing. The location cannot be beat! For those that don't like to drive on tiny roads though, be warned, this road is not for the weak of heart! But it's all a part of the adventure, right? The road does make things a little noisier than expected but that can't really be helped. Every morning, the view took our breath away! And it was a quick walk into Kotor as well. Nick gave us a bunch of wonderful restaurant suggestions that were off the beaten path - thank you! We hope to make our way back to Montenegro again and if so, we would definitely stay here again!

Beautiful house and fantastic area with stunning scenery
We loved our stay. The house is great with plenty of space. Looking out over the bay is amazing and you never tire of the view.
The road at the front of the house was a lot busier than we thought it would be which made it a bit noisy at times but other than that it was perfect.
Kotor old town was a 15 minutes walk.

Very stylish, spacious house within a few metres of sea.
We loved our stay at Muo. The huge rooms and stylish furniture made it feel really special. Our favourite activity was sitting outside by the water, watching the world go by.
Marina was really welcoming and helpful. Her advice on beaches and crossing borders was invaluable.
The only thing that would have improved the stay was more equipment in the kitchen such as oven gloves and vegetable knives etc.

A beautifully restored house on the seafront .
We had a great time!!! This is a lovely house, just a little over a mile from Kotor.
It's huge. Two massive living rooms with four double bedrooms, all of which are air conditioned. It is decorated and furnished to a very high standard indeed; this is not your average holiday let, it's the owners pride and joy and it feels like a real privilege to be able to stay there.
You don't need a car, if you don't fancy the walk into town, there's a bus every half hour and the public transport from Kotor to the rest of Montenegro is very good (The walk into Kotor can be a bit of a pain because the road is quite busy and there are no pavements). The local shop in Muo has everything you might need including fresh fruit & veg. The nearest restaurant is a five minute walk away in the opposite direction to Kotor on the seafront with a terrace. Highly recommended
Don't bother with the day trip to Dubrovnik. It took us two hours to get through the border into Croatia in one direction, and four hours coming back. You have been warned!
Just a couple of words of caution . This house is not suitable for a family with small children. Firstly because it is equipped with high quality stuff and breakages could be expensive, secondly because the front door opens straight onto the road with no garden or even a pavement- the cars pass within inches of the front door as you can clearly see on the picture, and the road turned out to be busier then we had expected. Also, bear in mind that there is an en suite in one of the bedrooms but the other three all have to share one bathroom. We didn't find that a problem, but I can imagine that some families might.
Having said all that, I would not hesitate to book this house again. In fact I'd go back to Kotor just for the privilege of staying here.

Beautiful House
Hi, my family and I have just returned from our second visit to this beautiful house.
It is such a tastefully furnished and comfortable space to spend your holiday. The house is also very well equipped. There is now steps into the sea directly outside the house to allow easy access to the sea to cool off.
It is perfect for us as it is located in the village of Muo which is nice and quiet. The historical town of Kotor is only a 20 minute walk where you will find all the shops and restaurants. There is a small village convenience shop only a stones throw from the house, ideal for your morning bread or cheeky bottle of wine.
I can recommend two local restaurants. The first is Villa Ferri which is only about 200 metres down the road and secondly Ladovina which is approximately 1km in the opposite direction. The shared seafood platter was most enjoyable.
I would also recommend driving up into the mountains on the Kotor to Cetinje serpentine road to experience the amazing panoramic views and really appreciate the stunning beauty of the whole area. Mostar in Bosnia and Dubrovnik in Croatia are within a couple of hours drive and well worth a visit if you haven't already. I could go on and on about things to do and places to see but thats all part of your holiday adventure experience. We will be returning as we feel we have only scratched the surface of exploration and discovery.
Back on track with the purpose of this review, if you are considering booking do it now. I can guarantee that you will be impressed and very comfortable in this house. You get that feeling of luxury.
Enjoy your stay to those of you that book.
Regards, Luke.

Very special.
I'm returning again this year, on looking at availability............. note I hadn't reviewed from last year yet. I absolutely love the house, the area and the country.
I feel the description underplays how stylish & tasteful this place is. Everything is quality (the dining chairs are original Eames - other designers to be identified by people with a better memory / knowledge than me....). Clean, tidy and high standard of finish on the renovation of this place.
The property is in Muo - quiet and unspoiled. Kotor (had just been placed the Lonely Planet no.1 place to visit when I last stayed) is about a 15 / 20 minute walk away. Occasional cruise ships come towering into the bay @ Kotor, otherwise, not overflowing with tourists.
If driving - go over the mountains to Cetinje - and look out for the old French Embassy building. Views on the journey are spectacular.
Highly recommended - please don't book it when I want to go though!!

Stunningly beautiful
With views of the azure sea and majestic mountains on landing, we knew we were going to love Montenegro. Once installed in our Punto rental, a snippet at about £10 per day, we were on our way. Within 15 minutes we were gazing up at our stunning house. Wow! Three storeys high, beautifully restored original stone, pretty shutters and napoleonic musket points, a stones throw from the sparkling blue water...and that was just the outside! Inside, double wow!! As the letting agent showed us round, throwing open the shutters along the way, each window revealing picture postcard framed views, we were more and more in awe of the place. The house is genuinely beautiful. Refurbished to perfection, original features, stylish furnishings, artistic touches, well-equipped kitchen and all mod cons. Space, space and more space! Left out of the property is a short walk to the picturesque village of Prcanj, right for a 15 minute scenic stroll into the old town of Kotor with labyrinthine alleyways, hidden squares, cosy bars, restaurants and boutique shops. Worthy of a visit is the restaurant Stari Mlini across the bay. Choose your fish fresh from the water and eat al fresco in your own secluded glen. Back in Kotor, climb up the ancient ramparts to the ruins of St John's castle for magnificent panoramic views of the Bay of Kotor and the massifs of the Dinaric Alps beyond. Word of caution, the path to the right is not for the faint hearted, or safe for children. The path to the left is better, but either way, it's worth the 45 minute amble to the top. A 30 minute drive takes you to Budva's beaches and an hour and a half to Dubrovnik. Back in Muo, as the sun sets, the mountains are aglow and reflected in the waters. By night, the town is alight with the whole bay mirrored in the darkened depths and, for the romantics, the reflection of the floodlit ramparts create what looks like a gargantuan love heart across the glass-like surface. All this is seen from the large, glass, double doors of the house as you relax with a glass of wine on the soft leather sofa. We were only in Muo for 4 days but this is just the beginning - a love has ignited! The owner's enthusiasm for the place is contagious; easy to communicate with and nothing too much trouble, they genuinely want people to enjoy their lovely property and Montenegro as much as they do. And we most certainly did! We will definitely be returning. Simply cannot recommend enough!
