About this house rental

This beautiful home offers deep water dock which is great for swimming and fishing. It is within walking distance from the Virginia Dare Marina where you can eat lake side at the Portside Bar and grill or go out for a sightseeing dinner cruise. Only 10 minutes to major a grocery store and State Park. Mile marker R21 allows you to get to the Dam or the bridge within minutes. There are several restaurants that are within a ten minute drive by car or boat. Very quiet neighborhood great for walking.

Cleanliness when we arrived was not great. Advertisement said usable fire pit that was not the case. Access to one of the patios was not available. Would have a been a great place to have dinner on the deck. Grounds crew came unannounced and damaged our yard golf game.

Great location on a really nice cove. The dock is perfect for hanging out and swimming. The covered area is especially nice to get a break from the sun and play cards. The house has everything needed for a relaxing lake vacation.

This was our second stay at this house. Perfect for our family and our dogs. Great location. Great dock. Love the gentle slope (not a lot of steps). Kitchen is well equipped. Main floor layout changed since we were last there…for the better. Nice big TV and reclining leather couches. Property manager is great to work with and super responsive. Spiral staircase to the basement can be a challenge to traverse (especially with a load of laundry)…dogs didn’t really like it either. But, it is a space saver so I get why it is there.

This home exceeded my expectations! We have been renting at SML for over 15yrs & stayed in many homes & condos - this one is among the best. We all noted that we slept better than any other place, the beds were comfortable & the AC worked great. The views from the Florida room were awesome, kitchen setup was great, the dock was amazing, landscaping beautiful, and the location on the lake perfect. The steps down to dock are a little steep but manageable with the tiered steps. We had very good weather & made awesome memories. Thanks again for sharing your home with our family!

This was a very cozy house with beautiful landscaping, view and boat dock. Only downside was you had to bring your own linens and towels and do some light cleaning of the counters/refrigerator before leaving, but it is totally worth it. We were able to kayak to the state park.from the house. Nice coves for paddle boarding.

Awesome property! A little older but very homey! Neighborhood very quiet. Great location on the lake and nice dock and sun deck! Our family enjoyed this location VERY much! We love SML and would definitely book this house again! Vicki was very helpful and responded quickly.

We arrived a little early and were so luckily to meet Vicki, she was so extremely welcoming. Gave us some tips on the area as well. Stop looking and book this house, the pictures do not do it justice. The dock is large and where the dock is gives a great view of the sunsets every evening we sat out and watched the sun set. The Lake is a deep lake, right off the dock it's 15 feet so great to fish and not get caught on the bottom as well great to jump off and not hit bottom. We ate definitely going back!

It's tough to get a better view of SML than what you get at this house. The many windows facing the lake meant we could sit there for hours watching the boats coming in and out - very enjoyable! The lower deck is great and very convenient for docking our boat, the grill and hammock were fun as was the foosball table, but the upper deck needs some work. We did deal with an underwhelming cleaning job (tin foiled remains in the grill, shoes and bags left behind by previous renters) but the essentials were fine. Check-In process was choppy but we got it resolved. Owner was responsive and nice. The yard was well kept. Beds were comfortable. We would stay here again b/c the view was so amazing that it was worth every penny.

Great house! The property and lake access are awesome. Kitchen was great, everything worked well - appliances, lights, grill, etc. which can sometimes be a hassle in rental properties. It was convenient to feed a group of 7 at the lovely dining table and outside areas. The house could use some furniture upgrades in the sun/family room, but the sunset view was spectacular. House could use some TLC outside as well, mostly just an "after-winter" effort. Renting a boat that we could dock at the house was so convenient and fun. Many thanks for a great Easter weekend!

We loved the location of the property on the water and the cove. The house was nice, the beds were comfortable, and the AC and the appliances worked perfectly. The only complaint I have is the home is very dated, some of the lights don't work, doors are hard to open and close, it's a little bit run down. Needs a lot of updating. For the money they charge, some of it should be put in upgrades. Overall we had a good time and spent plenty of time on the water with the kids.

Perfect spot for family of four plus 2 dogs to enjoy a quiet, family-only Thanksgiving during COVID. Peaceful, clean, nice views from the main room area, and we got lucky with the weather to boot. We really enjoyed it!

We go to SML every summer, but this time wanted some fall foliage time and less lake traffic. This property was a great spot for us and our Pomeranian. Great location. Really liked being so close to fuel station on the lake. Would recommend again.

We enjoyed our stay in this comfortable, clean house with a great dock. Nice landscaping - the yard was well manicured. Our chocolate lab loved diving off the dock and even made a new duck friend! Lots of people on the water in boats, water skiing, kayaking, riding sea-dos, and enjoying the early fall on the water. The area is very nice, easy to get to, neighbors are friendly, and the local grocery stores (Food Lion and Kroger) deliver within 2 hours if you're concerned about COVID. We used both with no issues. We were there to find a vacation home or lot to build on so we had a vested interest in the exploring the area. The spiral staircase to the lower level wasn't a big deal for us but might be for small children and the elderly. Overall, a restful, enjoyable week.

Easy to rent. Great spot on the lake and the dock was very nice. We had some trouble with the cleanliness and condition of the house. The house was beat up a bit, dirty, and covered in pet hair. We needed about a half dozen lightbulbs. Dishwasher leaked and kitchen sink was broken. The house just needed a little TLC. New grill on the deck was really nice and views from the sunroom of the lake were fantastic. I highly recommend watching the sunset from Adirondack chairs on the floater. We were out there every night.

Great house, dock, and even better owner. We were down during the "Flood of 2020" and were in constant contact with the owner the entire time. The owner was pleasant to deal with and very accommodating due to the flooding. We helped as much as we could to take care of the owners boats and property while the lake exceeded full pond. We weren't able to get on the water for three days and the owner stayed in constant contact, even offering a longer stay. Thank you Vicki we will stay in touch!

A++++++. Enjoyed ourselves tremendously, this turned out to be a fabulous gathering place for us and our adult children from out of state. The kitchen was better stocked with cooking utensils and supplies than a lot of other rentals. The weather wasn’t cooperative for enjoying the outdoor amenities, but the sunroom served as a great observation deck over the lake, and the tables were great for dining and game-playing. We all slept great and relaxed together in this fabulous setting. Hoping to come again soon!

We thoroughly enjoyed a weekend getaway to this SML house. The view is wonderful- especially the sunsets. Great location, easy to get to and enjoy other nearby attractions. The dock was great for sunbathing and swimming. The kids loved jumping off the top deck. We brought a huge float and anchored it off the end of the dock which provided even more entertainment. The kayaks were fun to use -especially in the early morning or late evening when the lake was calmer. My husband brought his fishing boat which was easy to launch at the nearby state park and keep docked at the house when not in use. The walkway down to the dock was user friendly for small children and elderly. Nearby family joined us for the day Sunday and the multiple seating, both indoors and out, was put to good use. We hope to make this an annual trip and would recommend this home to anyone!

Way too much dog hair everywhere. Dog food also observed on the floor. Two TVs did not work. Wouldn't been so bad if the owner offered a discount, but of course that didn't happen. Although the description says fireplace, there is a sign on it that says, "Do not use Fireplace." I also never seen the hammock pictured. Be prepared to take all trash to the local dump or home with you.

The house was beautiful, and the view of the lake from the sunroom could not have been better. The fact that almost everything was on the main level was perfect for my 93 year old grandmother and my mother who had just had a hip replacement. The small step to the sunroom mentioned in a previous review was certainly not an issue. We got decent cell and internet service on our phones, so the lack of WiFi wasn't a problem for us either. Overall it was the perfect place to meet my family for Thanksgiving!

My family rented this for vacation and it was marvelous. The house was perfect and the view was spectacular. Since it was the 4th of July, we sat on the top deck and saw a wonderful fireworks display. The dock is so nice because there is a table under the roof so you can eat there in the heat of the day. Jumping from the top dock into the water was a huge hit with our kids. The kitchen is well stocked and the bedrooms were a nice size. This is a very clean home. If you are bringing small children (we had our 1 year granddaughter) bring gates to put around the railing in the kitchen that surrounds the stairs going down. The railings are wide and she could fit through them. However, it was not a problem because Vicki had a gate there for across the stairway opening and we brought others to put around the railing. Other than that very small problem, we will definitely look into renting this place again. Thanks Vicki for a wonderful time!
