The Mermaid Retreat is a great couples' or small-family rental. We are on the shores of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. We are within walking distance to Lover's Point Beach, downtown Pacific Grove, Cannery Row, Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf. Pebble Beach, Carmel, Carmel Valley, and Point Lobos State Reserve are just minutes away. Big Sur is 26 miles south, and Hearst Castle is only 90 miles south on Scenic Highway #1.
Sit on a bench out front, and watch the seals and otters play in the giant kelp beds. Or stroll the hiking trail along the shore at sunset.
Our season is year-round! So book your reservation now, before it's too late.

Homey and all basic needs met. The space was very clean, but dated. We missed the messages sent by the owner because I didn't recognize the name and it looked like spam. The location is central to many things, and very close to the beach the street is more of ,an all it worked out.

Because of a family situation, we had to cancel at literally the last minute. At 4 am, Barry immediately acknowledged my message, offered to help us get our money back through VRBO, and followed through in less than a couple of hours. We cannot say enough kind words about the host and his generosity in this situation. This would have been a repeat visit - we stayed at the Mermaid House a couple of years ago. Highly recommended.

A great location for a two week escape from the Arizona summer heat. Walking distance to Lovers Point, downtown PG, Aquarium and walking/running paths. The property is cozy, but fine for two adults and one very happy dog.

Very pleasant stay. Has everything you need to cook at home if you like. We came in July so it was a bit cooler. Very reasonably priced for the area. I must say though it the pots & pans could be replaced but they worked. Old simple oven but it worked. The ocean view is a peekaboo view. But it was nice being by the ocean. (Across the street) . Looks like a cabin laid out well. I would stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay overall. Just a few things were needed—we had to buy a large pot for cooking as there was only a small one, and a new sponge. Luggage racks would have been helpful instead of putting our suitcases on the floor. The location is excellent and we were pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was as we did not hear the neighbors.

I traveled with my Mother and we enjoyed the cozy Mermaid Retreat. It was a fun week spent taking walks along the sea shore, looking into interesting shops and galleries, and visiting local sites. Dinner at the Red House Cafe was a highlight! Mom said the bed was comfortable, and the sleeper sofa was for me as well. We enjoyed the hot water tap for hot chocolate and tea.

We so enjoyed our week-long stay at Mermaid Retreat cottage in April 2024. The cottage is clean, roomy, charming with its mermaid decor, bright due to the large windows and skylights, and very comfortable. It has everything we needed to cook light meals; the bed is comfortable; the washer/dryer/laundry rack were so helpful. The pocket doors to the kitchen/living area and to the bathroom kept our dog confined with us in the bedroom at night. The location is superb - 1 min walk to Perkins Park which runs parallel to the beautiful coast. What a gorgeous place to walk our little poodle! We walked the half mile to Pacific Grove’s downtown Farmers’ Market. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is 1.3 miles away, Asilomar State Beach/sand dunes 1.8 miles, 17-Mile Drive 1 mile, Carmel Mission 7.7 miles.The hosts were very kind and responsive. My husband mentioned in the morning wanting to barbecue our dinner, and within a couple of hours, Barry had brought charcoal. We could not have asked for better accommodations, location, or hosts. We really loved our stay at the Mermaid Retreat and totally understand why guests have returned over a period of many years. We hope to return also. Thank you, Barry and Elizabeth, for a wonderful stay!

We love Pacific Grove and the Mermaid Retreat. It’s cozy and comfortable, and the location is excellent. So glad it’s dog friendly; our dog Angus loves it too. The owners are next door and super helpful. Great side patio with a BBQ too. Wish I could stay forever!

I love the area and this little house always feels like home. I love having a kitchen to cook in and the coastal walking trail really can’t be beat. I never have much interaction with Barry, the owner, but when I do he has always been very polite and friendly. Already planning next year’s visit.

I had a great time exploring everything that Pacific Grove and Carmel has to offer in my week long stay. The comfortable accommodations made it even more pleasurable. The Mermaid Cottage is just a block away from the ocean!! I took the trail and was able to walk to Lover's Point, Monterey Aquarium & Canary Row. Asilomar Beach was a short drive away. There is a parking space in front of the garage which was perfect to park my car. This is per friendly property, and I was able to take my dog on long beach walks daily. He loved it. The owners live next door and are very prompt with responding to calls/requests. I had left my house key inside and locked myself out one time, and Barry was able to open the door for me at a short notice. I will definitely be coming back again!!

Barry and Elizabeth very friendly hosts. Very forthcoming with advice about our accommodation. Slight confusion over the key to access the garage to use washing and dryer facilities. We looked for an actual key but it was a electonic push button one.The retreat is needs a little updating but there is everything that you need. My 19 yr old daughter noticed some old hair in the shower but It was soon resolved by me. Lovely area to visit

The Mermaid Retreat was close to everything and everywhere we wanted in Pacific Grove and Monterey. It was equipped with everything we needed and was exceptionally clean. We appreciated the little things like having the light switches and living room sheets labeled, and the kitchen was completely equipped. The cottage has a driveway for off-street parking. If you like mermaids and pelicans, this is the place to stay. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you, Barry and Elizabeth!

This rental was quite small - a FR/kitchen combo and a BR. It is a little dated, the only TV is in the BR, it is filled with mermaid chachkes, and I would stay there again in a second. The location, 1/2 a block from the bay, is spectacular! Morning coffees, afternoon cocktails and long walks along the water we’re right outside our door. Just a short drive into Monterey or Carmel or a short walk into charming Pacific Grove. We loved it.

This little place did not disappoint. It is literally steps from the ocean path and close to Lovers Point and Pacific Grove. My 1st time traveling alone and my dog and I parked in the private driveway (a bonus), and walked everywhere. Mermaid retreat has everything you need and Barry and Elizabeth respond to questions quickly. This will definitely be my 1st choice stay when heading to Pacfic Grove! Amy & Sadie (dog) 😊
