Its privileged location allows people to reach important tourist spots in a short period of time, from the coast (4 km) to the city (35 km)
The area around the property is ideal for nature lovers: you can simply walk along the forest paths or, for people with a good level of fitness, ride a bike in the uneven mountain landscape (some bike circuits are nearby).

The house is located on one of the highest points of the property, with stunning views of the sea and the landscape of Sintra. Each corner of the garden has a unique view of the sea or the hills. Even when you open the front door or windows of the house, you face the ocean or small villages in the distance. It has a spacious terrace, exclusive for guests, ideal for relaxing and enjoying the view.
The garden is divided into two areas, connected by a gate, both with barbecue grills. One of the gardens is private for guests; So, if you have a well-behaved pet, you can bring it with your family. The second garden is shared with the owners, it includes a swimming pool overlooking the coast (from Praia das Maçãs to Ericeira), the Serra de Sintra (Pena Palace and Castelo dos Mouros) and some typical villages.
The house is ideal for couples or families up to four (2 adults and 2 children).
We strongly recommend hiring a car, as there are many places to visit within a 40 km range:

In the village of Penedo you will only find a local restaurant. For basic shopping, the nearest supermarket is in Almoçageme, about 2 km away. In the area are local markets with fresh vegetables and fruits, wines and all other supplies.

We had a great time staying at Daniel's villa. The views from the terrace are absolutely amazing - some of my favourite times on holiday were sitting up there with my book and a glass of wine, enjoying the view. The gardens are lovely to explore, and it was great to get fresh eggs from the chickens!
The villa itself was well equipped and comfortable. The village of Penedo is very pretty, however almost all restaurants and amenities are a (short) car journey away. We had a rental car, but also discovered that it's very easy to get an Uber in the area, so we did this a lot as well, and getting around was never a problem.
As a host, Daniel was very communicative, friendly and helpful. Overall we had a wonderful stay, and I would definitely come back!

A gorgeous stay!

We had a few minor issues, all but one of which were resolved promptly. The only significant issue was with the hot water - we had issues with this during our entire 4 day stay - the water in the shower would be very hot briefly, then get cold, then a couple of minutes later would get hot again. This was our first time driving the narrow streets of an old village such as this, so that was a challenge.

House in the sky
We had a great stay in the house. The owner, Daniel was very helpful in check-in and guiding us to the property. Also very accommodating on leaving and was responsive when we had issues with WiFi and the access gate. We felt we had privacy as well as being able to ask for assistance when we needed it. We found the bed to be firm but comfortable and the the views are stunning.
The property isn't easy to access though so you need to be comfortable driving down steep, gravelly roads.
Sintra and the mountain is well known for being cloudy and it was a bit while we were there but this is to be expected. Depending on one's needs this can also be a benefit to some as it can be cooler than surrounding areas. It depends what you want really and that's subjective and depends on your needs.
I would stay there again.

La vue est à couper le souffle, formidable
Une prestation de très très bonne qualité, dans les détails d'équipement de l'intérieur, comme dans la qualité des couverts, assiettes, verres et petit électroménager. (Le presse agrumes a été beaucoup sollicité !). La propriété est un véritable parc arboré et fleuri à souhait et très bien entretenu.
Une seule précision à apporter. Nous avons une voiture sportive, et donc basse, la rue qui dessert l'entrée principale de la propriété était inaccessible avec ce genre de véhicule. Le propriétaire nous a alors gentiment laissé accéder par la rue qui dessert son garage pour que nous puissions parquer notre voiture.

Un très agréable séjour
Location parfaite respectant en tous points le descriptif de l annonce. Cadre exceptionnel, jardin magnifique, logement très confortable et parfaitement propre.
L accueil de Daniel fut très chaleureux, prenant le temps de nous montrer les environs et les bons petits restaurants du coin. Il eut par ailleurs la gentillesse de nous donner à notre arrivée des fruits de son jardin et des oeufs de ses poules.
Bref un séjour délicieux dans une région superbe du Portugal que nous avons pu partager avec notre chienne louna que Daniel a eu la gentillesse d accepter

Easy and peaceful spring holiday
Nice place to have a silent and relaxing stay. The access (roads) is a bit frightening. The house equipment is ok. Bed in the sleepung room is too hard (caused a severe back pain). Due to the windy and cool weather, we could not enjoy fully the grilling area and the pool, unfortunatedly. The host, Daniel was good, helpful and very friendly.

Herrliche,ruhige Lage
Casa do Mar liegt traumhaft schön mit Blick auf den Atlantik, den Palacio Pena und die Sintra Berge. Das Haus ist sehr gut ausgestattet, es fehlt nichts.

Location conforme au descriptif
Nous avons passé de très bonnes vacances à Colares. Les propriétaires sont très sympathiques, disponibles et de très bons conseils. Le logement dispose de tout l équipement nécessaire, la vue est exceptionnelle.

Sehr herzliche Aufnahme durch die Vermieter
die Betreuung durch die Vermieter war immer sehr prompt und wirklich engagiert. Wir wurden direkt nach der Ankunft durch die nährere Umgebung gefahren, damit wir die Strände, Supermärkte und sonstige unmittelbare Highlights problemlos finden konnten.
Die Anfahrt zum Grundstück ist etwas steil und holprig und etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig.
Die Wohnung liegt in einen sehr schönen, gepflegten und Buntengarten im Steilhang und man hat einen grandiosen Ausblick .
Die Wohnung ist sehr gut ausgestattet.
Während unserer 8 Tage ging beständig ein Wind, so dass wir gelegentlich sogar eine Jacke überziehen mussten und die Temperatur i.d.R. 4°C weniger als am Strand war.
Ein paar Auflagen für die Liegen und ein etwas größerer Sonnenschirm hätte die Liegeterasse noch besser nutzbar gemacht.
Kultur gibt es in der Umgebung von Sintra reichlich
Insgesamt ein sehr erfreuliches Ambiente und eine hervorragende Betreuung

Great time in Sintra
We love to spend our holiday in this fantastic place. The first thought when we arrive at the Vila was that we really have found someplace unusual, a secret place in the mountain. The view was even more spectacular than you can see in the pictures, and we were so lucky that we experienced both a clear blue sky and the mysterious atmosphere when the clouds where creeping up the hillside at night. The owners are kind, friendly and helpful. They give us a lot of very useful indications. They make us feel as home. The house and garden are very peaceful and surrounded by a lot of green. The terrace has a stunning view to the Atlantic Ocean; we could have stayed at the terrace for hours just to watch the view. The apartment was clean and was perfect for our stay. PS: I’d love to be a bit selfish and keep this secret place just for me, but the owners were so nice and the apartment is outstanding. We think it's not fair people doesn't know about this little gem in the middle of Sintra forest.

Great holiday with a great view
We had a very warm welcome by the sympatic hosts, even though our plane arrived very late and they had to wait over 3 hours to meet us at the Colares meetingpoint. The property itself was very clean and according to the pictures (in real it actually looks better then on the pictures :-)). The stay was just as we expected - a very quite Location on top of the hill with great views and the Sightseeing sites just near by. The "road" to the house is something you have to get used to, but in the end it worked out very well. Daniel is a very nice and caring owner! providing you with the best tips where to eat and where to go (also where not to go). We enjoyed our stay up in the hills and recommended it to friends.

Un lugar fantástico para cualquier tipo de visita. Si buscas tranquilidad, éste es tu sitio. Si prefieres visitar museos, palacios, pueblos y ciudades con encanto..éste es tu sitio. Si necesitas playa, este es tu sitio. Si te gusta la naturaleza, éste es tu sitio. La casita es una preciosidad, rodeada de jardín, piscina y todas las comodidades. Es un privilegio disfrutar de sus vistas cada mañana y cada anochecer. Los propietarios, Daniel y José son un amor..amables,siempre sonriendo, dispuestos a recomendarte los mejores lugares que visitar, atentos y generosos. Si tienes mascota, no dudes en llevarla..Mi perrita Zoe se lo pasó genial, persiguiendo mariposas, durmiendo a la sombra de los árboles, correteando y olfateando por el jardín. Me encantó que fuera tan bien recibida como nosotros. Muy cerca de todo, se puede ir a Lisboa a pasar el día, una cuidad que me cautiva cada vez que voy. Volveremos sin duda. They even drove us to the local supermarket at Almocagem and showed us around the area, so that we could get our bearings. The house itself was extremely clean and very well fitted out and we found it very comfortable., with plenty of room inside. They have thought of just about everything you might need. The garden is very charming and the views down to the coastline are just amazing. It was really good to have the pool and the rooftop terrace and we made good use of both. In particular the barbecue area is great and we used it almost every night. The location is great for visiting the palaces and castles in Sintra and we followed Daniel's advice in which ones to visit. Local beaches were busy on the weekend and it was sometimes difficult to park, but we liked the Praia da Adraga the best and there was always room. Highly recommended - we'll definitely tell our friends and family!

Great stay, beautiful and clean house, caring lan
First time rental and experience surpassed our expectations. Fairly new house in traditional style which is kept clean. Embedded in an amazing landscape with views to the sea. Ideal for couple with small children. Dogs welcome. Daniel and José are most caring for all of our enquiries and needs. We can truly recommend and felt we want to come back.
