About this apartment rental
In the heart of downtown Madeline Island is the newly acquired Bell Street Lodging. Walking distance to restaurants, bars and beaches. This is an ideal place to relax and take in the views. Your rental unit is located on the second floor and has its own private deck to enjoy morning coffee a cocktail or just to soak in the scenery. There is additional common space that can be enjoyed as well. This includes a massive deck with plenty of seating and tables to enjoy additional views or company if you so chose. We have created a bbq and beer garden as well. Use one of the grills and courtyard area for wonderful meal outside.
The lodging includes two bedrooms allowing for up to 6 guests. Please note that the max guests allowed. If you exceed the max amount we may ask you to leave the property and no refund will be provided.
The master bedroom has a queen bed and access to the private deck. The second bedroom is also equipped with a queen and bunk beds. The bunk beds are adult sized with 8" thick mattresses.
The Bell Street Lodging was constructed with concrete forms. The concrete forms offer a quiet sanctuary within your space. Or step outside and walk a 100 yards to Tom's Burned Down Cafe. Tom's is an island music oasis. Not to mention spectacular for people watching. Enjoy a short walk to the Beach Club for a sunset view and refreshment. Your family could enjoy Grampa Tony's also within 100 yards of your stay.
If you enjoy the convenience of staying close to the action this is the accommodation for you. One flight of stairs, unpack and park your car for the rest of your stay if you chose.
The Bell Street is a bar/restaurant/event center. Since it is operating as a bar/restaurant/event center there may be an event with live music/speeches or late night activity. You may be a part of that event or renting during that event. We can't guarantee that you will not hear the music or the activity. Unless there is a wedding event, the music will stop by Midnight and the Event will end no later than 1am, the other nights the music should stop between 9 and10pm . We want you to be aware that there may be an event on the day that you book your reservation or sometime thereafter. We ask that if you stay with us that you are aware of the potential event noise and that this will not be a reason to ask for a refund. There are a total of 4 units as a part of this building and there may some noise from your neighbors (similar to an apartment). We just want you to be aware this is not a single family rental unit.
Please be mindful of the Ferry schedule. We can not offer a refund if you can't make the last boat. Please check their website for any travel advisories before traveling. Also, if you are booking very close to your arrival date please pay attention to our strict cancellation policy.
Note: Check in time is 4pm and check out time is 10am. Please note due to the very high lodging demand we cannot offer early check in or late check out.

Love staying at the Bell Tavern. I appreciate the ability to walk around the main town area as Tom’s is always a good time. Ample space and a well stocked kitchen also make for an easy and quick weekend.

Its location was great for shopping and the restaurants. Within walking distance of our needs. Enjoyed the Big Bay park beach! The only negative was the stairs. Both my wife and I have bad knees.

The condo was awesome. In the center of town with easy access to everything. We can’t wait to go back!

This property is in the BEST location if you want to be downtown! Everything I needed or wanted was a stone's throw away. The private balcony was the best, for treeline sunsets and a distant-water-view. The place itself was clean and comfortable, and, on further review, far too big for just me, but I did enjoy the space! All of the modern conveniences. Great host - - I will be back... with more people! ;)

We enjoyed staying at the Bell St. Downtown Oasis! It's so centrally located and close to the ferry dock, restaurants, groceries, etc. Also, for swimming you can easily drive down the street to Joni's Beach, which is a perfectly nice in-town beach. Or you can go to the Town Park, State Park, or other spots you'll find on the map or by asking around. The apartment is very close to Tom's, a late night drinking and music spot, but we were not bothered by any noise. This would be an especially good spot for "newbies" to the island, since it is so centrally located.

Property is in great location walking distance to ferry, grocery shopping, shops and activities.
Clean and as described. Enough room for 3 adults and 2 kids.
Private balcony plus large shared covered deck with view (including from unit) to Lake Superior. Friendly locals playing croquet in grass nextdoor.
Last night (Saturday 10/21) was a Halloween themed party event below with loud music until after 11pm. Would have been nice to know in advance (no info on website). Guest provided WiFi had fair (poor signal) and kept cutting out when steaming on Roku (no local channels).
Would recommend but if loud noise bothers you at night then check with host in advance.

My family stayed at Dave’s Bell Street place for my wedding weekend on Madeline Island and they loved every minute. The place was so clean , cozy, and conveniently located. It was close to so many main shops but they never heard a peep from the outside world. Definitely book this place if you’re looking to stay on Madeline Island!

Condo was great. Very quite, large condo. Great outside patio space. Island has a handful of restraunts and gift shops. One highlight was swimming in the crystal clear and cool waters of superior in Big bay. The yact club has a heated outdoor pool jacuzzi and sauna that you can pay to use. We didnt get a chance because we ran out of time. Get there early to rent a moped. They rent out fast.

They were close to our cabin.

Spacious, comfortable couches, nice to have kitchen, good to have temperature control, nice to have shampoo, soap and towels. Location is great. Liked the outdoor deck space. Downsides: there were dozens of flies in all of the rooms - not sure why. We were excited to cook but many of the dishes were dirty. One bed looked like someone already slept in it with wrinkled sheets and hair on it. Kind of dark lighting throughout. Can hear neighbors pretty easily (but we did go to bed on the early side.) one last suggestion: Dave did tell me about the lack of open restaurants after we booked and paid…it would have been helpful to know this prior to booking. We completely understand the nature of these times but might have made a different decision if we knew more about that. Thank you!

Great apartment for a family or group of up to 4-6 people. Location is nice, right in the middle of town in LaPointe on Madeline Island. Easy walk just a block off the ferry from Bayfield. And, you can walk anywhere you might want to go in town: all the restaurants, groceries, Tom’s Cafe, etc. And it’s located above Bell Street Tavern, which was closed for an event when we stayed, so can’t speak to that. No dishwasher, but otherwise a functional kitchen. Internet. TV with streaming channels. All you need for a nice Madeline Island stay. Would recommended and would return ourselves.

My daughter-in-law found this place last year and we came back again. Wonderful to have a two-bedroom place with full kitchen (especially when staffing shortages in LaPointe mean restaurant hours are limited). Enjoyed the view from the expansive private and common area balconies and being a part of the neighborhood for a week. Hit all the high points with a friend and then family who joined me. Big Bay State Park and Big Bay Town Park are a few miles away. Walked the boardwalk between the lake and lagoon, canoed in lagoon, walked along the red cliffs, picked mushrooms (don't do this unless you know what you are doing - spore prints, field guide identification, etc.), looked at the Porcupine Mountains in Michigan from the vantage of Big Bay, listened to the waves and the wind in the trees, and watched seagulls chase a bald eagle. Restored my spirit every day and came back to my cozy home away from home every night.

My friends and I rented this property for a weekend getaway, and we are already hoping to return. The property was in a perfect location on the island. It was spacious, clean and very welcoming! The property owner and staff are awesome!! … excellent communication and extremely easy to work with. We would definitely stay here again!!

Lots of outdoor patio & balcony space. The location was just right. The only problem was noise from late night partiers out on their balcony, close to ours, which kept us awake.

This property is a great central location for us to gather with our local friends on the island as well as with other vacationers who are able to stay in the other rentals on the property.

The condo was beautiful, impeccably clean, and plenty of room. The only downside was a cupcake was smashed on the roof of my car, most likely by an inebriated wedding guest at the adjacent event space.

Almost everything to do in La Pointe was within 1-2 blocks. We could watch all the goings on around town from the large decks. It was a very peaceful and relaxing stay.

Great spot for Madeline Island 1/2 Marathon
Went for Madeline Island 1/2 marathon with a girlfriend. My 17 y/o son and her spouse + junior college student came along
Great location for price and our needs.
I'm a very honest hard grader, giving 4 stars bc although it has everything we needed, it was not anything "above and beyond" or spectacular that I would earn 5 stars.
Great location for doing the 1/2 marathon; 0.4 mi from start/finish line. Right off the ferry. And this is what we were looking for.
Steps away from the small grocery store. Super cute fun bar just across the parking lot (Tom's Burnt Down place?). Outfitters and art shops just steps away. Close to EVERYTHING.
It does truly have it's own deck - overlooks an empty lot and a 1 story building that has construction right now. From the front end of the deck, can see the ferry landing and Lake Superior.
The main/shared deck is right outside the living room window. Nobody else was using it while we were there. Very cute. Fun lights. Could be noisy/bothersome if other people were using it. This is the only unit that would be affected by it.
It is in the busiest spot on the island. The noise level was as expected. I've stayed on quite/remote spots on the island too. But our goal was proximity to start/finish line, so this was perfect.
There was noise before 8am on sat of lawn mowing and weed wackers right outside our window/deck. But I had earplugs in and didn't hear it. Bit of noise from downstairs business until later in evening, but not overly bothersome.
Kitchen has bare necessities. I brought my own rice cooker. If you need a larger pot, might want to bring it with you. We could food for our group of 5 in 2 batches.
Reserved for 5 people, but only 4 bath towels on check in. Contacted owner and they brought a 5th towel. If you're someone who likes 2 towels (I usually have 1 for my hair, 1 for body), then you might need to request or bring extra towels.
Bedrooms good. 1 bedroom has queen, I slept there, comfy bed. Sliding door out to our private deck. Bedroom door opens to kitchen. Shares wall with the 1 bathroom. I used earplugs, was not bothered by others in the unit using kitchen or bathroom.
The other bedroom has queen bed and stacked bunk beds. All comfy I'm told. Also sliding door to our deck. Bedroom door opens to living room.
2 big couches in living room. My son slept on one (used sheets/bedding from bunk bed); comfortable enough.
Parking free/easy.
Would stay again.

Look forward to coming back next year
I stayed with my husband, two children, MIL and SIL. There was plenty of space for all of us. We enjoyed the patios and used the grill space in the evening. The apt was very clean and the beds were comfortable. It’s a great location as well.

The only down side at this time of year are limited hours for restaurants and ferry. No where to get breakfast on the island.
