Our house used to be an old school house in a small country town called Carpendeit. It was built around 1915 and was moved to it's current position in Port Campbell around 1997.
Within a short drive of about 10 minutes from the 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and Gibson Steps, The Old School House is a perfect hub for exploring everything the Great Ocean Road has to offer.
It is a charming home full of character.
There are two bedrooms upstairs: a main with a queen size bed and a smaller bedroom with two single beds.
For additional guests after 4 people, there is the option of a pull-out sofabed in the living room downstairs (converts to a queen size bed) or a spare mattress in the study upstairs.
For any guests traveling with a baby or small child, there is a travel cot available to use at no extra charge.
Please note that bed linen and towels are provided.
All of the bed sheets, including the doona covers, towels, face washers and tea towels, are freshly washed for our guests when we get the house ready.
Please ensure to let us know the correct number of guests so that we can provide enough towels and prepare the correct number of beds.
There are two balconies upstairs. A large deck wraps around 3 sides of the house downstairs.
There is a BBQ on the deck for you to use if you wish.
We have an outdoor fire pit in the backyard and a wood-fire oven in the living room.
We are keen to keep the character of the house. The kitchen cabinets are the old school house drawers , which gives it a rustic look, whilst providing all of the modern amenities you need to make your stay comfortable: full size fridge with freezer, freestanding electric oven and stove with range hood, electric water kettle and toaster. (Please note that pots, pans, plates, bowls, cutlery etc are all provided.)
There are two toilets in the house. The separate toilet next to the bathroom will remind you of an Australian outhouse with the corrugated metal walls.
The spacious bathroom has a second toilet, a bath tub (dimensions are: overall length 1.5m, overall width 0.7m) and a separate shower.
There is an air-conditioner in the living room for heating in winter and cooling in summer as well as a wood-fire heater for cosy winter nights.
There is a panel heater in the main bedroom and a radiator heater in the second bedroom.
If using these heaters, please ensure these are switched off when leaving the house.
There is a large dining table that seats 8 people if you wish to invite some friends over for dinner.
Please note: Bedrooms are upstairs, toilets are downstairs. Entry to the house is via a set of stairs. Plenty of parking available along the driveway in front of the house.

Adored the charm and wonder of this unique and special home. It’s so inviting and comfy we slept through our wake up calls! Owner was responsive and caring, helped supply beach towels and ice trays when asked. Grilled my first Baramundi outside and loved it! I never wanted to leave!

We had a really lovely stay at this house. Location is a short walk into the town centre and house itself was great - we felt very much at home. Our only suggestion is to provide two tea-towels (we ate in both nights, and without a dishwasher the tea-towel got a workout).

The old school house is delightful! Beautifully renovated with all the modern comforts, but at the same time the charm and history of an earlier era has been retained. It is surrounded by the most beautiful native garden which is so soothing and calming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Old School House!

We spent 2 nights at the Old School House and it was so worth it! The house is gorgeous and very comfortable, the balcony is great for a BBQ and just to chill with a book. We appreciated all the fine details in the house and the backyard and enjoyed the peace and serenity accompanying the property. Highly recommended!

We absolutely loved our little family getaway! The house history and architecture was amazing and we loved the beautiful native garden, deck and firepit. The location was great, easy access to the town centre and beach yet quiet and private. Communication with Irena and Simon was easy and their instructions and house rules very clear. We will absolutely be back again 💖 Thanks Irena and Simon for sharing your gorgeous old house with us!

We had an amazing time at this gorgeous property. Unfortunately it rained a lot, however due to the cozy furnishings and lovely fireplace we ended up having a fantastic time snuggling by the fire. The location was prefect and within walking distance to the town.

Eclectic and Picturesque
Loved the way The Old Schoolhouse was renovated and decorated. Some quirky features. Never dined under a chandelier before. Loved the garden but didn't get to use the fire pit. It was cosy, comfortable and a handy location. All one needed for a peaceful holiday.

Touch of Tuscany
There’s a touch of Tuscany to Roger and Timothy’s garden at Port Fairy. Stone pines, pencil pines and an orchard draw the eye, and birds, and make this the perfect place to relax. Lovely hosts, well appointed, sweet residence. We loved our stay.

Really nice stay in Port Campbell
The Old School house is full of charm and our young children loved staying there for the week - with access to a large garden, fire pit to roast marshmallows and lots of toys to play with upstairs. The only downside was the fact that there is only one toilet on the ground floor - all bedrooms are upstairs. Other than that the property is within walking distance to the beach and restaurants in Port Campbell and its a good option especially for those with young kids.

Perfect place for a relaxing weekend away!
Irena and Simon have provided a beautiful home to base yourself on Victoria's stunning coastline!
You can walk into the main street of Port Campbell and it is the perfect location to set-off on the 12 Apostles Gourmet Food Trail!
The property is so relaxing and pleasant to share a meal on the large veranda and watch the wildlife. We especially loved the visit from one local koala early in the morning.
Perfect and prompt communication from hosts - very much appreciated.
100% would recommend! :)

Beautiful place. Thank you for all the little extras.

Great location
This property had so much character. We enjoyed our one night. The downside was that the bathroom was on the lower level and bedrooms were upstairs. It was difficult at night with a visually impaired member in our group. The bathroom did not have heat and it was chilly. Also wasn’t keen on washing dishes on a one night stay. There wasn’t a dish washer. However, overall would stay again.

Good character place with oodles of charm
A lovely property with so much character and ambience. Close enough to walk to the beach, well located on the Great Ocean road and probably just as lovely in winter as in summer.

Quiet and quirky
Lovely cottage with unusual attributes. Great garden and good facilities albeit no electric iron to smooth any wrinkles after using the washer and dryer. We had bad weather so couldn't enjoy the garden or multiple decking areas but with a log fire and a DVD we snuggled down OK,

Stunning.....
We absolutely loved staying at the Old School House. It had everything we could have wanted. The beds were super comfortable, the house was cosy and warm. Every detail had been attended to. Our boys loved exploring the garden and the outside fire pit. We would have loved to stay longer and if we are ever back along the Great Ocean Road we would not hesitate to stay again. Thanks so much!

lovely cottage with a heap of charm
Our stay was short but sweet. The house was fairly easy to find with a lit up number to see at night. The fire was easy to get going with all the wood, kindling etc needed stacked ready and it kept us toasty warm for the night. We loved the presentation of the house and so much character - loved the chandelier. It was really interesting reading the history of the place too. Comfy beds but I would have liked a couple more comfy chairs to watch TV. Overall it was wonderful and very central to seeing the gorgeous coast.
