We were initially apprehensive about renting not directly on the water and with other folks renting cabins as well. However, we are ecstatic that we did! Dave and MB's cabins are clean and they are such hospitable hosts. Our family got along swimmingly with the other folks in the cabins, even becoming pen pals! We have stayed at other properties on GEL and hands down, this one served our needs and we will be back! They have thought of everything you may need for an extremely well stocked kitchen, grills and firepits, wifi, to land toys and water toys as well! Our son loved trying to catch fish with the nets! It truly was a great place to relax and unwind. Great East Lake and Dave and MB are truly gems. The Metz Family

Great place
Our stay was fantastic. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived and the cabin was exactly as shown on the website. The Barr's were awesome. Mini and Biker were the stars of the week providing hours of laughter and entertainment. I would recommend this location to anyone looking for ultimate relaxation and a stellar lake experience. Thanks to Dave and MB

A very quite spot
Great place with great host! It's not private because they rent a few cottages BUT everyone is there to have a good time! They offer paddle boards Kayaking water floats and so much more on a peaceful lake. Our cottage was clean and well supplied.

Wonderful cottage on the lake
The cottage itself was lovely - clean and well-appointed with a slightly rustic feel. The hosts have created a relaxed atmosphere with easy to access kayaks, paddle boards and other swim and boat gear and toys. There are shared spaces on the lake And just enough other residents to feel a little social but never crowded or noisy. And the friendly and enthusiastic dogs add to the warm atmosphere. I’ll be back!

Must love dogs!
We had an amazing time staying here. The lake is beautiful and the setting as well. The cottage was comfortable and well outfitted. The kids had such an amazing time playing with all the provided water toys, floats and boats. The owner and his wife are helpful and friendly. They have two dogs that are also VERY friendly, so watch out with little ones at the lake, the younger dog is quite exuberant. Not only was our stay a great time, but when I had issues with VRBO taking forever to release my deposit, the owner Dave got on the phone and sorted it out for me. So very grateful for the wonderful Father's Day weekend we spent here!

We have enjoyed Great East for 14 years. This was a new location for us, the south side of the lake. Lovely

Wonderful and relaxing retreat
Our stay at Great East Lake was wonderful! Dave and MB were warm and welcoming hosts, from the welcome reception to the s'mores kit that started our week off, and lots of nice and homey touches in our cabin. Our kids had a great time at the lake, especially with the resident Golden retrievers. The availability of kayaks, SUPs, a small powerboat, and floats galore meant we didn't need to bring much ourselves. The cabin was cozy and comfortable, with lots of homey touches. And our fellow guests were also friendly and warm, making our stay that much more fun! The lake was also terrific, very peaceful and not too crowded, with crystal clear water to boot. All in all, we couldn't have asked for a better or more comfortable stay!

Beyond compare
Our family of 4 stayed in Charlotte Cabin at Great East Lodge over Memorial Day weekend and we loved it. We've rented nearly a dozen different places in the NH Lakes region and can say that Great East Lodge & Cabins are beyond compare. Dave & MB have thought of everything to make their guests stay comfortable, enjoyable and relaxing! The cabin was spotless, well appointed and full of all of the amenities that most rentals requires you to bring your own (dish soap, toilet paper, condiments!). Our girls (6 and 9 years old) took full advantage of all the fun water toys - kayaking and stand up paddleboards and fell in love with the 2 well behaved Golden Retrievers. We were sad when our weekend was over, not just leaving the beautiful lake but also feeling like we were leaving new friends! We're hoping to make this a new Memorial Day weekend tradition for our family. :)

Pure Joy
The cottage was comfortable and wonderfully decorated. Above that, the owners were most pleasant and personable, showing true concern for their guests. Additionally, effort was made to get the guests acquainted with each other by way of a social hosted by the owners for the guests (held at the Tiki Bar on the property by the lake shore).
The lake is beautiful and very clean. The owners let guests use their Sunfish sail boats, paddle-boards, small motor boat, swim floats, tubes, and kayaks. Additionally, guests were treated to a tour of Great East Lake on the owner's comfortable pontoon boat.
I can only describe this vacation with such wonderful people in this pristine setting as "Pure Joy."
Such friendliness in this beautiful setting

Vacation - Part 2 - Had to come back for more (yes, second time this summer!)
I am cozy in my cabin; and have everything I need to feel right at home. The lake and property always provide an overwhelming view of nature at its finest. I love kayaking with the loon families; and human families enjoying the water and each other! Day trips are always fun for kids and adults alike - music, theatre, mountains, climbing Mt. Washington on the Cog Railway, cruising Lake Winnipesaukee on the Mt. Washington "ship", frequenting the diners and seafood restaurants, and checking out local festivals. I am counting down to next year!!

Spectacular cottage for lakeside vacation
I am counting down to my second vacation this summer in this cabin on scenic, peaceful Great East Lake. I have spent a portion of the past 17 summers in this cottage; and eagerly anticipate every vacation as if it was the first. We had three generations the past two years between the two bedrooms and loft. Every day brought new adventures and family fun - kayaking, enjoying loons, swimming, paddleboarding, day trips into Maine and local small towns, 4th of July parade, band concerts, fireworks, hiking, s'mores, roasted marshmallows, and board games at night - lots of laughter and lots of love. The cottage is beautifully decorated; and filled with all the conveniences of home. Dave and MB have always been the friendliest, most helpful hosts; and fast friends. I cannot give the vacation experience offered here enough stars - five is not enough!

It was a truly fun vacation!
A sign in the bathroom reads “What happens at the lake stays at the lake”. The cabin we stayed was about 50 feet from the water on a gentle slope, cheerfully decorated with signs like this and other nautical relics. From the bedroom windows, we could see the lake through the trees. The owners have an artistic taste when it comes to interior design and we appreciated the rustic lake house ambiance and the colors of the accent walls.
We spent the Memorial Day weekend here, which turned out to be among the best vacations we have had. The hosts, Dave and MB, happened to be there as well, which was very helpful. Dave showed us around the property when we first got there: a collection of kayaks and stand up boards, a paddle boat, a playroom with a pool table and ping pong among other games.
The morning on the lake was tranquil and soothing. As it faces west, the lights were not so bright, and it was very comfortable for reading. Sitting on one of the colorful Adirondack chairs, having feet up on a bean bag cube, you knew you’re really on vacation. A day would go by quickly as there were many things to do: kayaking, stand up boarding (which was our first time), and swimming (the water was a little cold but sobering – like having a chilled beer on a hot day). To dry up, we played pool and ping pong in the playroom, which is above the boat house, with a balcony facing the lake. Several colorful wooden chairs are on the balcony, where one could sit comfortably to watch the sunset at the lake.
The water was super clear so we could easily see the rocks on the bottom. Sitting on a swing over the water was another small treat not to miss, which was good any time during the day. Dave and MB would come by, and we would exchange some pleasantries about the day, the weather, and the life on the lake. Mini and Sushi, the two lively animals you can see from owners’ picture, would often come along and play with us. Mini is the younger one, intelligent, very friendly and playful.
The nearest “town” is about four miles away and the only supermarket there has an excellent meat department (for the grill), as well as everything else one may need for the weekend. The place is far away from the suburban life we want to escape but also has all the necessary conveniences to feel connected.
To our hosts, Dave and MB, thank you! And we will certainly come back to see you in the future.

Ultimate Lakeside Family Vacation
This vacation is the first of two I will spend this summer at this truly charming lakeside cottage. We had an amazing two weeks of relaxation and adventure. The cottage is beautifully decorated; and equipped with everything you need to feel at home. Our family enjoyed kayaking, visiting with our Lake Family - Hosts Dave and MB; and other visiting families, listening to loons, swimming, paddleboarding, relaxing to spectacular sunsets, singing by the bonfire at night, day trips, 4th of July on the lake, and great weather. We look forward to our return in August; and have already booked next year! Dave and MB have created a beautiful property with the cabins and lodge; are delightful hosts; and have become true friends. This is my ultimate vacation choice; and I savor every summer on the lake.

Wonderful, relaxing stay!
We stayed in the Charlotte cottage in mid-June and had an absolutely fantastic time! The property was charming and had everything we needed for a quick weekend getaway from the city. It was a quiet, relaxing stay but provided plenty of activities to keep us entertained - kayaks, paddle boards, a game room, a tiki bar, a grill, or even just some Adirondack chairs to sit and look out over the peaceful lake. Dave and MB were excellent hosts. I would highly recommend this listing for anyone looking to get away and enjoy a relaxing but entertaining weekend or longer stay on the lake. Thanks again Dave and MB!

Truly Special Place
This is our second year at the cottage at Great East Lake and we simply love it. The location is gorgeous and peaceful; the owners and other vacationers are accommodating and friendly; and the cottage itself is tastefully decorated, fully equipped, and spacious. It is a home away from home for us and nearly impossible to leave after a week! We cannot wait for next year.

Lovely cabin for family-friendly vacation!
I had such a great time on my first vacation this summer that I came back for a second vacation in the same cottage in August! We thoroughly enjoyed "lake family" time with owners, Dave and M.B.; and reunited with friends from previous vacations. Our adventures on-site included kayaking with frequent loon-sightings, paddleboarding, boating, board games, cookouts overlooking the lake with its spectacular sunsets; followed by restful nights drifting off to sleep to the song of the loons. Off-site, my adventures included a covered bridge dance, several art festivals, fireworks, concerts (indoor and outdoor), wildlife park, and shopping outlet deals. I am already counting down to next year's vacation here! This is a family-friendly vacation that is sure to provide relaxation and lots of fun whether you're a family of one or six!

Wonderful!
The cottage was as cute and comfy as can be. It really felt like home and had plenty of room for two friends to stretch out. We could have easily invited a third and if you like cozy, there's technically room for six. The beds are comfortable, the bathroom and shower updated, and everything you need is pretty much there. It was all newly renovated and you can tell. One night we enjoyed cooking on the grill and having dinner at the little table outside. Not surprisingly in Maine, the property is rather isolated and feels very private but it's unique because it also has a sense of community. The four cottages and house are grouped together and share a dock with sunning chairs, tiki bar, game room, and porch swing so like it or not, you'll be meeting the other people staying there, and if they have kids, you'll be hearing them. For us, that was a positive thing and we really enjoyed being part of a "neighborhood."

Great Week by the Lake!
We had a wonderful time in our cottage by the lake. Cabin was perfect for our family of 4 and we had extra room for friends to come up for a sleepover. We loved having tea by the water to watch the sun come up over the lake.
Our family really enjoyed kayaking and trying out the stand-up paddle boards.
I would highly recommend this lake and any of these cottages to stay at!
Thanks Dave and MB for your hospitality!!

My family has owned a camp on this lake for 30+ years. This year, we needed extra space for family members. After doing some research, and knowing the lake well, I found this rental for my sister-in-law and her family. The location is perfect, as you enjoy nice breezes during the day and awesome sunsets at night. The cottage is comfortable and the grounds have tons of fun activities for all family members, basketball, ping-pong, pool, water sports(kayaks, sunfish, paddleboards). The owner and his wife are great people, we enjoyed evening smores by the fire with them. The cottage itself is well maintained and has all the amenities you need for cooking, cookouts(gas grill), tv, wireless internet, etc. Finally, the lake is one of the best in New England, but I may be a little biased. It really is serene.

This is probably my 5th vacation in this cottage with the Barrs as owners. I experienced two weeks of total relaxation in a cozy cottage that has been totally renovated; and has every comfort that you need for a vacation on the lake. Loons provide a background chorus at night to lull you to sleep; and kayaking on the lake during the day is always an adventure! Wireless internet allowed me to access my job as needed; and the rest of my time was spent visiting with other lake families; as well as my own. We enjoyed cooking, board games, boating, paddle-boarding, and all the local festivals and family fun. The Barrs are magnificent hosts; and are always proactive about renovations and enhancements to their property and cottages. I truly feel at home when I arrive; and savor every moment of my vacations at "The Cottage on Great East Lake".
