ABSOLUTELY SPLENDID‼️ Peace, quiet and privacy in abundance -- and plenty to do in the surrounds if we chose.

Lovely place! Rod and Lucile were absolutely delightful and very responsive! Checked on us when Hurricane Lee was making an appearance!
3 things not in the listing:
No washer/laundry
While the view of the bay is beautiful you cannot really access the water … the tides do not permit.
They no longer have a Wi-Fi hotspot- which didn’t really impact us but fyi!

A great place to unwind. Watch the tide go in and out, along with the deer, turkeys and birds in the yard!
Clean, everything you need available. Confortable bed.
Truly feels like a piece of heaven.

Maine became a favorite spot for us. The cottage was so charming despite the fact we had no internet or wi-fi there. A trip to the Paisly Loon in Cherryfield gave us delicious blueberry muffins and wi-fi. The laundromat in Milbridge where we had to do laundry also had wi-fi. The owners were very kind and helpful in locating places of interest. If you are a golfer the people at Barren View golf were great and accepting as were the folks at the Baptist church of Cherryfield. We really hated to leave!

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Harrington property. The views were picturesque daily. Just sitting watching the tide go in and out was just what we were looking for. Rod and Lucille were the nicest couple, and the perfect hosts. The property was very comfortable and clean. We used the location as a home base. After sightseeing all day it was nice to come back and light a fire, and truely relax. Highly recommended.

Very private, with magnificent views made our stay peaceful and relaxing. Outside fire ring would be a nice addition. Our only disappointment was the lack of Wi-Fi. The owners, Lucile and Rob, could not have been more congenial and helpful.

Rod and Lucile have shared a lovely piece of tranquil space. My partner and I were appreciative of the personal greeting during check-in and how wonderfully accommodating they were to our unexpected early arrival. The cottage and property are even more lovely in person, than shown from the photos. The bed was wonderfully comfortable (so grateful!), property clean throughout, and kitchen stocked with all needs thoughtfully anticipated. The cool temps at night allowed for us to have a fire in the fireplace each night, and we were grateful for the stocked firewood. For future visitors, I would highlight the internet limitations which are explained under the amenities. A hotspot was available for the expressed purpose to check email or limited usage, noting that streaming is not an option. Bring your own WiFi if this is important to you. Local highlights for food include Paisley Loon for breakfast, lunch and good coffee; Knottie Lobster for lobster rolls; Vasquez for Mexican food (generous portions!), and if you're traveling north to Machias, we highly recommend Bad Little Brewery. Don't forget to visit Frank E. Woodworth Preserve for a beautiful, easy hike.
Thanks again, to Rod and Lucile for such a wonderful experience.

We are always looking for the perfect get away and have found it here! The view was so serene during the day and the starry nights, spectacular! Except for clammers way off shore in early morning (not a sound) and deer checking us out from the surrounding woodlands, we were on our own. The home has a spacious, cozy living room and a great fireplace we used on a rainy day. Galley kitchen is adequate, bed comfy. Bring your own drinking water although two gallons were ready to start us off. The front porch and Adirondack chairs were our total refuge...we started and ended each day out there. Hope to return next year!

Pretty, comfortable, cozy house. Private, gorgeous land w/water and sky view. Perfect location.
Wish we could have stayed all summer and enjoyed this house and view and the perfect location to travel around and visit all this area has to offer. Rod and Lucille are lovely people and very helpful with questions.

Great place to get away
My husband and I loved our week on Flat Bay in Harrington. The property was beautiful and secluded. The cottage was perfect. Rod and Lucile are great hosts! There was a library of movies that were available to watch if we weren't outside enjoying the view of the bay, watching the tide come in with a cup of coffee in the morning and watching it go out with a glass of wine in the evening. There were plenty of opportunities for hiking and enjoying the Maine coast line. We were close to Acadia and Bar Harbor and enjoyed our day trips to these places. We would love to return and enjoy another relaxing stay!

A relaxing getaway
Rod and Lucille have set up this charming cottage to be such a relaxing getaway - from plenty of towels sets to a pantry stocked with all the basics to logs in the fireplace ready to light. It made it so easy and comfortable to arrive and immediately settle in. Whatever we needed, it was there (e.g. hair dryer, paper clip, pie server, pepper grinder, etc.). They are gracious and responsive hosts who truly care about you enjoying your time there. The cottage is cozy with a spacious feel in a very secluded spot. We loved sitting in the Adirondack chairs on the porch, eating meals there, reading, and watching the tide come in and go out. We’re so happy we found it and look forward to returning!

Cozy, peaceful cottage
Wish I could have spent the whole summer here! It’s a lovely cottage—very spacious and peaceful and has everything you could need. The WiFi hotspot is also a huge plus! I work remotely during the week, so being able to hop on work chats and have reliable internet is super important (and not always a given when traveling!). This spot is also very close to some great walks and hikes outside of Acadia (though, I’d recommend checking out the national park hikes near winter harbor—way less crowded that on Mt. Desert :) )

Outstanding
This is the best, just what we needed. It was so nice to see that it stayed almost the same. ( except for the good changes) As always it was great talking to you. We do wish we had had more time to talk. Your place has spoiled us on looking for a place to retire. The whole process was very nice.

Quiet beauty at the end of the road
We always try to visit Harrington during the full moon as the tidal shifts can be so dramatic. This property did not disappoint! By night, the stars were brilliant, and the moon a shimmering beacon across Flat Bay. By day, the grounds - 20 acres of well-maintained woods, fields and bay shoreline - provided opportunity for exploration and observation of nature, including a variety of birds, and deer. The cottage is comfortable, clean, equipped with all the basic necessities - lovingly built and decorated. The water views from the kitchen, dining area and the front porch are quite spectacular at any time of the day. This is a perfect romantic getaway as well as a base of operations situated close to many area activities: rewarding hiking trails, scenic bike paths, Acadia, Campobello, and much more. We stayed here during the Covid 19 pandemic and found it easy to remain quarantined. But we know from previous trips that there are cute shops here and there, farm stands, a Wild Blueberry Festival, antiquing opportunities, and other enjoyable local community events all summer long. This is not a trip for folks seeking glitz, glam and 5-star restaurants. This is a place to reset your heart, to learn anew how to breathe and to feast yourself on unspoiled natural beauty, as well a few local lobsters! Our hosts, Rod and Lucile, were so friendly and helpful. They clearly love their property and we are so grateful that they decided to share it with strangers! We hope to return in the near future.

Amazing views
Beautiful little cottage that will make you step back in time. There is a TV but no need for it here! The view from the front porch is amazing! Pictures on this review don’t capture the true beauty of the property and views. This will be a “go to” place to stay for years to come, as long as it is available. Thank you Rod and Lucille for the privacy and assistance during our stay. The place is a wonderful get away For any couple.

Our favorite, hands down!
We love this place and can't wait to go back! Eclectic property - charming cottage, beautiful stone fireplace, on enough acreage to be peaceful and private. Located in a quiet area of DownEast, yet an easy drive to Acadia, Blue Hill area, Machias and other points north. The Harringtons are lovely hosts!

Very peaceful vacation
We thoroughly enjoyed the peace and the quiet we found at the Harringtons' lovely cottage - it's even nicer than the online photos. There were no other homes nearby, and all we could hear was the occasional lobster boat or the baby birds nesting in the eaves of the front porch. We saw deer and rabbits and watched the fishermen digging for clams on the flats at low tide. The cottage had everything we needed and more. Rod and Lucille are gracious hosts with very interesting stories to tell, and only a few miles away if you need something. We highly recommend their cottage.

Tranquility and Relaxation at its finest!
What a beautiful cottage located on the water! All the privacy you need for a relaxing getaway from everyday stresses. Rod and Lucile Harrington are a wonderful couple who met us at the cottage when we arrived. They make you feel like family within seconds of meeting them. Enjoy the bunnies and robins on the front lawn as well as the Canada geese that glide by on Flat Bay. Build a roaring fire in their beautiful fireplace to enhance the already cozy feeling inside the cottage or spend your evenings upstairs in the loft watching a movie while cuddled under a warm blanket. Plenty of room to move around but you won't feel lost. They even have chilled glasses inside the freezer to keep your drinks extra cold! The cottage has everything and more that you will need for your stay. They truly thought of every last detail. Leave your stress behind as you cross the threshold of this lovely home away from home.

We had a great stay at Rod and Lucile’s cottage. It is very secluded and quiet, just what we were looking for. They were great hosts and gave us wonderful recommendations and advice. Will definitely come back if another trip to this beautiful state is in our future.

A beautiful secluded piece of heaven. Everything on the website is accurate. Comfortable bedroom, the bonus writing/art nook overlooking the cove, kitchen has everything you you need for time away. Near but not too near, Acadia National Park and other sights including Campobello Island. The property is expansive with lots of shade trees and overlooks a cove with sunrises. The night is filled with stars with no city lights to obscure your view. a wonderful place to "get away from it all and recharge yourself with beauty.

Fantastic little hideaway
This year was my second stay. I really enjoy my time in northern Maine when having this as my base camp for hiking and drives throughout the area. I would readily recommend it to any other potential visitor to the bold coast.

Perfect place to getaway! We loved everything!
Where do we start...we found Rod and Lucille’s gem while looking for a place to get away and celebrate our fiftieth birthdays. We wanted somewhere that was central to the east coast of Maine but not in the hustle and bustle of a tourist area. Well, this was definitely, the place. We were about an hour and ten minutes away from Bar Harbor and about two hours from Canada and whale watching.
The location is not the only thing that is perfect...the cabin is beautiful and has all the amenities. For starters, the picture on the site just doesn’t do it justice. The living room is so cozy and inviting and the upstairs loft that allows one to look out over the bay is mesmerizing. The bathroom is just the perfect size and the bedroom has room to hang up your clothes and put away your belongings. –The bed is comfortable too! The kitchen has everything one would need to cook a wonderful “home” cook meal and what more could anyone truly need?
We enjoyed our days out exploring and our morning and evenings out on the porch our down by the bay being serenaded by our new frog friends or watching the light show of the fireflies. We can’t forget to mention the bunnies on the property that greeted us every day.
We just can’t say enough about how wonderful our experience was at the Harrington home. Thank you Rod and Lucille for making this a wonderful week and a vacation of a lifetime! We did two whale watching trips, and visited a few towns and watched fireworks across the bay on the fourth of July. Everything was just perfect!
God Bless you both and we hope to return in a few years.

Heaven? Fairy tale? Perfect retreat
We stayed June 23-30. We loved it. The cottage is exactly what we both enjoy and were looking for- somewhere that felt isolated and away from people and noise, but close enough to travel for day trips and food. The pictures look exactly like the house and land. It’s perfect. Some days were cold enough for a fire and there’s plenty of wood available. Coming from a hot climate, that was a treat in the summer. We took a wonderful day trip to Bar Harbor. We hiked the Petit Manon trail to a beautiful rocky coast. There are many wonderful things to do within a short drive, but you’ll probably also want to stay in and enjoy the cottage, the animals you’ll see and the beautiful view. Rod and Lucile are wonderful hosts. If we make it back to Maine we definitely plan on staying here again. It was perfect.

Embraced by Maine
This property was splendid in every regard: the paired chairs overlooking the water, the spacious private grounds, the homey interior, loads of firewood (oh, we loved our evenings by the fire, including the glowing eyes of the owl andirons). All soo private, yet conveniently near town. The owners just a phone call away if needed. All the amenities and then some. We give this getaway our highest marks.

Secluded Gem Surrounded by Natural Beauty
From the moment we met Rod and Lucile at the cottage to the moment the wild geese flew past honking in the fog as we departed, the experience was wonderful. Instead of reading a manual of instructions, do's and don't's, Rod and Lucile personally showed us where things were, what to expect and made us feel very welcome. There were even chilled pint glasses in the freezer, awaiting our wild blueberry ale! Rod & Lucile told us there was a free concert on Friday night in Milbridge, behind the old movie theater and their band, Cole Creek, was performing. (We went and loved the music, some of which was composed by members of the band and incorporates local lore and places into it.)
The cottage is delightful and very well equipped. We loved eating breakfast out on the covered porch every morning, sitting out at the edge of the yard overlooking Flat Bay and watching the "peeps" twittering and running over the mud at low tide or the gulls dancing in the air chasing flying ants in the evening. There is a lovely short walk on a path through the woods to a field with apple trees laden with apples and we had deer wander through the yard at dusk and early morning. The location was really convenient to some of our favorite downeast hikes--Great Wass Island and Petit Manaan and even the Bold Coast up in Cutler isn't THAT far.
Our time at the Victorian Cottage passed very quickly--too quickly--but I made good use of the desk up in the second floor bay window, keeping a journal of our stay so we can re-live it from time to time :)

Awesome Experience !
We stayed at the Downeast Victorian Cottage for 1 week in August. It was such an awesome experience for us! We are city dwellers in Ohio that love the rocky coastline of Maine. This was our first time to experience living "out in the country" though. We loved it! --- I should say I also realized what a lot of work must go into maintaining such a large property ( 20 acres I believe)- but it sure was fun to enjoy country / seaside living without the responsibility of caring for so much land. I have never experienced this kind of privacy anywhere I have lived in my life!
My favorite thing to do was to sit in the chairs down by the water right after breakfast and soak in the sun and the view. There is a continuous breeze off the water and even when the sun is beating down you never feel hot. ( Sadly I write this as I am back in Ohio where the temp hit 90 today and the humidity and lack of air movement are oppressive) I am already thinking about returning to Maine next summer :)
Rod was great! He showed us around and provided us with everything we needed including pre-made ice in the freezer and a 2.5 gallon of spring water. The kitchen was very clean with good working appliances and all the basics. There is a big TV upstairs and one in the bedroom also- but honestly we did not even turn them on. We were either gone exploring the area or outside most of the time. We did bring our laptop computer and had no problems getting connected to the WIFI.
Well, I do not want to say too many more good things or it may not be available next time I want to book it :) - Great place- Thanks so much for sharing your cottage Rod and Lucille !

Great place for a quiet vacation.
The cottage and property are just as represented on the VRBO site. Very secluded, no neighbors in view from the property and a great view of the ocean. We really enjoyed watching the tides come and go. Lots of deer, rabbits and a few seals at high tide. Rod & Lucile provided us with all the comforts of home including a well stocked pantry to assist in making dinners much tastier.
The owners met us on our arrival, even though we had traffic issues and were a bit late. They are very knowledgeable about the area and gave us lots of ideas for things to see and do.
The cottage location is great for seeing everything from Acadia to Campobello. For us, some of the nicest things to see are the many nature preserve hiking trails that wind out to the ocean. There are two on Great Wass Island, one on Pidgeon Hill Rd and two in the Cutler area. All of them are fantastic places to have the ocean all to yourself.
When we return to the area, we will definitely reserve the cottage again and hopefully spend more time talking with Rod & Lucile!

Enjoying Downeast Maine as it once was!
What a delight and treat to not have the rush and glitz of Southern Maine or the traffic and tourism of Midcoast Maine! To "rusticate" in the woods and coves of Downeast Maine. To enjoy the villages and people of Cherryfield, Milbridge, Harrington, Columbia Falls, etc. Better yet to have a wonderful cottage on 20 acres of Balsam fir and White Birch trees as your base camp for such an adventure. Morning and evening visits by deer and rabbits and a fire in a huge fireplace. So many unspoiled places to explore, wild flowers, lobster and sailboats and tons more to watch, photograph, and share. Thank you Rod and Lucile for your thoughtfulness in designing and creating a joy filled experience for us in Downeast Maine the way it used to be with the amenities of today. Our two-week stay at Oak Point on Flat Bay was the highlight of six weeks in Maine. You have provided a wonderful holiday that we will always treasure. Love, Ellie & Gary
