About this villa rental
ALL RENTAL INCOME goes directly to support this beautiful 28-Acre Wildlife Sanctuary which entails the safety and preservation of all plants and trees, birds and animals living freely on this lovely estate. This hilltop home is 1 kilometer (less than 1 mile) from Montezuma Beaches on a 28-Acre Wildlife Sanctuary bordering the Montezuma River, and less than a 5-minute drive from the center of Montezuma, where one can easily find an abundance of excellent restaurants, grocery- and gift-shopping and night life, not to mention the miles and miles of gorgeous beaches and trails. For those without a car, a 10 minute walk down the driveway gets you to the bus-stop that runs every 2 hours between Montezuma and Cobano.
This fully-furnished home has two huge bedrooms with two bathrooms. Magnificent, 360-degree views of coastline, open sea, mountains and jungle/forest. The construction features large, open-air living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom with custom-made wicker furniture. There's a very large front porch with hammocks, Chaise Lounge, Rocking Chairs, Table & chairs, with flowering plants all around.
Both bedrooms are octagon-shaped; the upstairs bedroom has a balcony with a 180-degree, walk-around corridor, walk-in closet and private, open-air bathroom with magnificent views, stone floor and built-in garden. This bedroom has one queen-size and one double bed. Some guests choose to put their mattress onto the balcony to sleep under the stars. The downstairs bedroom, has the same magnificent views of the coastline, ocean and mountains. It has a King-size bed with 6 huge drawers underneath, for clothing and/or other storage, & extra mattresses are available for more guests. This bedroom has an overhead fan, and other floor fans if needed. There is an extra-large desk for computer, etc. There are additional mattresses available that can be used for more guests or as a comfortable meditation couch.
There is a fully-equipped kitchen with 6-burner stove & oven, full-sized fridge with frost-free, large freezer, with ice-cube maker. In back of the house is a washing machine with an extra-large double sink alongside, and a hot water tank that serves the entire house. There's even an outdoor shower, decorated with a wrought-iron palm tree, where one can shower off all the sand and salt-water when returning from the beach. Many people shower here several times throughout the day (ideal for cooling off in the heat!) This home and property is truly a nature-lover's paradise!
The land is managed as a 'Wildlife Sanctuary'--so all kinds of birds and animals come and live here in safety away from dogs, cats and hunters. The only sounds up here are those of the birds, all three species of monkeys, and the ocean and river. The animals we live with are: mapache (raccoon), pizotes (coatimundi), sloths, monkeys, porcupine, ant eaters, aracaris (relatives of toucans), guatusos y tepezcuintles, all kinds of birds, and an abundance of butterflies, and hummingbirds.
Just outside the entrance, there is a path down to the famous Montezuma River (approximately 50 meters below). Be sure to bring good rubber-soled, hiking sandals, and a walking stick, allowing you to hike down the path with ease and to walk in the river and hop from rock to rock, (flip-flops just won't do for this). This gorgeous river has abundant waterfalls (from small to huge), varying-size swimming holes, howler, spider and white-face monkeys and all kinds of species of birds and animals. One can easily meander down the River to the famous, huge Montezuma waterfalls where all the tourists go (by hiking up from the road down below in town). However, because we're approximately 1 kilometer up the River from where all the tourists congregate, our guests have the river all to themselves up here just below the Villa, and often will spend the entire day with their picnic lunch and a good book.

If you want to truly connect with nature, this property is a must! From the river in the back to the morning sunrises out of the front. Only a few minutes from Montezuma and all of the activities. The Host was extremely helpful in going above and beyond in making our stay a great one. Would give more than 5 stars if possible.

From the moment we entered to villa we knew we were lend astray.
The furniture was old and falling apart. The beds were horrible. The bedding smelled moldy. My son legs were bitten every night.
The worst was the owner's nosing in on our time. At first we thought ok, but her midnight showers in our bathroom and her inviting guest to view the place sent me over the edge.
I hold VRBO responsible for not screening the property. Pictures posted were over 10 years old.

A HEALING PLACE EVERYONE SHOULD VISIT AT LEAST ONC
I spent a three-day weekend with some friends at this 27-1/2 Acre, Wildlife-Sanctuary Villa and had the time of my life! Eventhough I am not a foreign tourist (I’m a Costa Ricanliving all my life here, I have rented many vacation homes in Costa Rica, and this is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to.
For example, I woke up at 5:30 a.m.on Saturday, and as I wassitting on the porch drinking my morning coffee, looking at the amazing view of the Sea, suddenly, a family of monkeys started coming to the mango trees. At the same time some little guatusas and pizotes were running across the grass in the garden, where there were hundreds of beautiful butterflies and all kind of little birds... later on I saw two little baby deer and foxes. I felt so blessed to be among these magnificent creatures! I said to myself, “This truly IS a “Sanctuary” not just for the animals, plants and birds but for ALL living creatures, such as myself!
This wonderful Villa has so many comfortable spots to sit, read a book or just meditate. I said to myself, “Who needs a swimming pool, with chlorinated water, when you have a fresh-water riverwith natural swimming pools and all kinds of waterfalls just 50 meters down the path!”The town of Montezuma is less than a 5-minute drive (20 minute walk), down the hill, as are the miles of gorgeous beaches there. This rental property has everything that one needsin order to have a marvelous vacation; just make sure you try to stay at least 5 nights in order to fully relax into this magical paradise. I guarantee you will let go of all stresses and strains. I wish that I could have stayed longer, but I had to return to my home to go to work.
This is truly a little piece of heaven and I felt honored to spend my weekend there. I thank you Kati for deciding to dedicate your land as a Wildlife Sanctuary and for donating ALL THE INCOME to supporting it as a not-for-profit entity!!!

MAGICAL
this house is amazing! nestled deep down a beaten road , which can be a little difficult to find at first, but easy and worth it when you do. its up on a hill over looking the ocean with all open windows and breeze. they have one enclosed room but we didnt even go in there really. we had a problem with bugs the first night just because we didnt know there was 2 different kind of lights for night time to not attract the bugs. it got a little hot in the morning but we had a fan which was nice. the upstairs shower was my favorite thing! also was super sad to not see any monkeys.. but they were definitely heard. the caretakers loft is kinda right off to the side of the house which was fine, he was super friendly, we just felt kinda bad playing any music late or being loud. its super close to town but we never wanted to even go there , the house was hard to leave. and katy was super helpful and accommodating and quick to answer any questions. my boyfriend and i cant wait to come back and show our friends this magical place! thanks katy !

Paradise
We just returned from 4 days and nights in paradise! This home is truly a sanctuary. It's a five minute drive from Montezuma town and beaches but feels like a million miles away. The owner, Kati, and Johnny and Perla, caretakers next door, were very helpful. We changed the number of guests coming several times and everyone was accommodating. Kati advised us to rent a car with Mareks from Carcosta Rent A Car. We were very pleased with the service and the price.
I will recommend Montezuma Sanctuary to friends that are comfortable in nature. Although the home is luxurious and everything you could need is provided, it is wide open. One bedroom has screens on the windows but there are barely walls anywhere else. It feels like the easiest and most elegant camping trip ever. There are mosquitos nets over the beds but I would definitely recommend bringing insect repellent. We saw and heard a lot of wildlife. We ate out some (delicious meals at Cocoral and Organicas) but mostly cooked in the well-equiped kitchen. Evenings are beautiful and relaxing. There are 4 hammocks and, at least in June always a breeze. There is a small TV, so we didn't miss any soccer games. The property is great for exploring. There are many fruit trees and a fun hike to a river and water fall.

Wonderful and relaxing! Beautiful location
This was a great place to relax. The husband and kids (9 & 10) had a wonderful time at the falls located on property. Very short drive to town/beach Montezuma. The open-air quality of the house was great. First morning, howler monkey family had breakfast with us (in their own tree, next to the house)! Renting a car (in Alajuela) was very handy...allowing us easier traveling freedom. Could also be a nice middle location to visit various sites along that side of Nicoya Penninsula.
Johnny had the site prepared and ready. We didn't really need much from him; however, he was close by if anything was needed. The kitchen was very nice. We were able to save money cooking our own dinners (bought groceries in Alajuela beforehand as it was cheaper). We didn't spend much time in the town of Montezuma as we had everything we needed already. The beaches were very nice and a great place for the kids to play, but watch out for the riptides. The beaches also were not crowded at all.
We would definitely rent this location again.
The relaxing trip was very much needed! Thank you!

Wonderful Nature/Wildlife Experience
We stayed at the Montezuma Sanctuary house for 1 week after a week in Samara. All five of us really enjoyed the experience. The house is really spacious with both bedrooms very large and well laid out .It has a tasteful bohemian flaire but this just helps everyone relax more as you don't worry about stuff. The upstairs bathroom and bedroom deck are an experience in ithemselves as you really feel like you are outdoors with amazing panoramic views from the shower and whole bathroom. We thought we'd have more problems with bugs but the constant breezes prevented any problems and kept the house cool at night. There is tons of wildlife everywhere. We had capuchin monkeys try and come into the kitchen to steal a chocolate bar and there was a troop of howlers that set themselves up in the trees right beside the house for 2 days. We saw tons of birds ,lizards, frogs, a deer and lots of pizotes on the property. You saw a lot when you walked down the entrance road especially in the morning. The path down to the river is rather steep but well worth it as the river area is beautiful and private. You can swim in numerous rock ponds and waterfalls and we liked the hike along the river where we saw more wildlife. The downstairs kitchen/ living area is huge with lots of very comfy lounge and rocking chairs and the kitchen is well stocked with equipment. There is a nice juicer that we used to make fresh lemon and lime juice from trees on the property. We did have some problems with the car rental but Kati was wonderful in helping us resolve the problems. We would definitely recommend this house especially if you want to get away from it all but still be close to Montezuma.

Amazing
This amazing villa is perfect for either couples or families. To start Kati, the owner, is as kind and helpful as can be. Weeks prior to our travel she provided directions, suggestions for car rentals, travel recommendations, and packing recommendations for the area. Whenever we had a question she was 100% responsive. Our plane was supposed to arrive in Liberia but detoured to San Jose late afternoon. Kati welcomed us into her own home there, fed our whole family of five, (children ages 6,4 & 4), coordinated with the car rental company, found us a fantastic hotel for the night and drove us there!!
When we finally arrived in Montezuma we felt the Villa exceeded our expectations. The house is gorgeous and comfortable. It is uniquely beautiful and wonderfully situated on a picturesque property. The views look like photos right out of a travel magazine, with an almost a 180 degree view of the ocean. We heard Howler Monkeys every night, saw parrots fly by every morning, hummingbirds whizzed around day and night, and the list goes on.
We spent time every day at the river behind the house, which is a bit of a steep trek so you definitely need to wear something like sneakers or Tevas (as Kati will recommend), but the river is worth it and our young children were able to go up and down. We found some great water holes where they could jump from rocks into the water and swim around (with floaties) as well as shallow areas for exploring.
Kati gave great recommendations on where to eat and visit in Montezuma, Cabuya, Malpias & Santa Teresa. We felt all of the beaches were very easy to access. We loved that several of the hotel/cottages where we ate allowed us to stay and use their pools after lunch. The kitchen in the Villa had everything we needed to prepare meals and we really enjoyed eating in several nights. Breakfast was the best, sitting on the patio watching the birds and butterflies dance around us.
Sleeping upstairs was a dream. Although the days were hot the early mornings and evenings brought nice breezes. We liked that the downstairs bedroom had windows and an air conditioner as that was perfect for our children. All three children were able to sleep comfortably in the downstairs bed. I think two of our favorites things were taking showers in the upstairs bathroom where you are at tree top level and gazing at the ocean the whole time, as well as sitting in the swing on the upstairs balcony watching the sunrise or set.
Missing it already!

Shangri La in Central America
Thank you Kati, Johnny and Perla. Words cannot express our experience at this incredible property. From the howler monkeys "singing" at daybreak to the lush landscape to the birds and Miguel the resident pizote leisurely walking the grounds you become one with mother nature instantly. We truly enjoyed the openness of the home, the views and the wonderful Pacific breezes rolling up the hill. Johnny was always there when you needed something or had a question but never intrusive in any way. He and his wife Perla were very sweet. We even exchanged some delightful foods with each other during our stay. Kati was very engaging from my first inquiry about the property. We communicated via Skype and shared many great conversations. She was very helpful in what to do during your stay making great suggestions. She referred us to an independent car rental company that saved us quite a bit of money by the vehicle being a little older, but it served its purpose and we were pleased. We had been in Costa Rica for about a week when we arrived at the sanctuary. Already feeling a little decompressed from our busy lives in the states. However, the week at the sanctuary gave new meaning to "recharging your batteries". Other than an occasional phone call we were totally tuned out from the rest of the world. It was fantastic. If you enjoy mother nature and all she has to offer, visiting this sanctuary is a MUST DO!
The proximity to town was perfect just 5 minutes down the hill and you were at the beach, restaurants cafes. As with the rest of Costa Rica the people are incredible. Always helpful and with a friendly smile "Pura Vida" is truly defined.
We will return to CR and stay at the sanctuary again the only question is when?
Don't look any further, this is the place to BE!

We came to stay at the Villa for 5 days and I'm not going to lie, as city dwellers we found it quite a contrast! It's quite true, there is a gorgeous waterfall literally steps away from the villa (the path is steep and I'm not unfit and I found it a 'medium' in terms of effort needed to get up and down). The villa is lovely, very simple with no distractions which meant we really did slow down and relax. As we came at a hot time of year, we did find ourselves cooling down in the downstairs room that has an AC unit a few times during our stay. The 4 of us (2 adults 2 kids) spent most nights in the upstairs (open) bedroom and awoke each morning around 4am to the howlers which was quite magical. Contrary to other reviews we did feel we needed to use the mosquito nets but maybe it was the time of year we visited....and they love to bite me.
The kids favourite moment was meeting the pizotes that frequent the villa and one morning we were treated to greeting from a family of at least 10!
We felt that having a car to travel to the beach at Montezuma was pretty essential - maybe if we didn't have kids and the heat wasn't so intense then we could have enjoyed the walk to the main road and the bus into town.
Embarrassingly our Spanish is not great but we did manage to communicate with Johnny when we needed anything at all.
The most important and valuable thing I have to say is that Kati the owner was amazing. Although she mainly resides in San Jose, from the moment we first enquired about the villa she was so incredibly helpful. She called the ferry for me when I was confused about the timing of it, she recommended routes to drive and places to visit. She couldn't have been more helpful - and more available. This really helped to ensure that as a family we had a great stay.

Great place
It is a very special and beautiful place. The house is beautiful, there is a light breeze in downstairs area even in the hot afternoons. There is many animals around - monkeys, agutis and coatis. Beautiful birds. The road to the house from the main road had lots of flowers during our stay, so we have enjoyed walking among beautiful butterflies. The family of coatis with 4 small ones was visiting almost every day. We never gave them any food, so they were very polite and didn't bother us and were fun to have as visitors. There is plenty of cozy places to relax on both levels. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Kati is an amazing woman and very caring host. We returned home a week ago and already miss a place.

Nature Lover's Dream!
For a nature lover, the Montezuma Sanctuary is truly a dream come true. My wife and I spent a week here in October, and a wonderful experience. The Sanctuary well-maintained, private, and wondrously beautiful. We enjoyed waking to the sounds of the Howler monkeys, and watching the sunrise from the ocean-view deck. The upstairs bedroom is a magical place, with panoramic 360 degree views of the ocean and rain forest. All of the windows are open to the cool hillside breezes, and it feels almost as if you are sleeping in the forest. I had worried about problems with mosquitoes, but in our entire stay saw only a few, and were never bitten. The bed is was very comfortable, and is equipped with a mosquito net, but we found we didn't really need that. While it is true that insects can fly in and out of the bedroom, that was never a problem for us. The open windows in the upstairs shower give you the feeling of showering in the rain forest! We had worried also about the absence of air-conditioning, but due to hilltop location and cool night breezes, we were very comfortable. The downstairs area is beautiful, with many hammocks and comfortable chairs and couches, and the kitchen is well equipped. It is important to not leave food out, as the downstairs is visited by coatis and other animals at night, but this was not a problem for us. The village of Montezuma is a 10 minute walk, and the river a 5 minute walk down a fairly steep trail. We enjoyed seeing many animals, including coatis, monkeys, hummingbirds, and even an anteater!
The owner, Kati, is a wonderful woman who went out of her way to help us in every way. She was available to answer all of our questions and helped us obtain a rental car at a good rate. Kati moved from the US to Costa Rica over 20 years ago, and is intimately familiar with the local people and culture. Johnny, the groundskeeper, lives with his wife in a small house near the main house. He is friendly, helpful, and always available if needed. We greatly enjoyed the restaurants and shops in Montezuma, as well as hiking on the beach and in the rain forest. The people were without exception friendly and helpful.
Overall, my wife and I had a wonderful and memorable trip, and we plan to return to the Sanctuary when we can. If you are an outdoor type, a lover of nature and animals, you will find this to be a little slice of paradise! I give the Sanctuary my highest recommendation!

Unique Nature Lover's Retreat
We couldn't have imagined a more magical place to stay in Costa Rica. We were a group of four adults and three five year-olds and this place suited us perfectly. It is spacious and open with hammocks and comfy chairs throughout (lazing in a hammock overlooking the jungle and Nicoya Peninsula was heavenly). The kids kept themselves endlessly busy running around inside and out (and swinging in hammocks) and we never felt cooped up. We had a rule that the kids weren't allowed on the upstairs deck without an adult since there is no railing. This was not a problem at all for us - the kids are old enough to obey the rules and we enjoyed the unobstructed views from that deck (there is also a door to the upstairs that can be kept closed). The kitchen is well equipped (and big - we could all be working without tripping over each other) and we cooked all but three meals over the course of our 8 day stay. Johnny, the caretaker was available but totally unobtrusive. One day we came home to a huge jug of fresh pipa juice in our refrigerator. So refreshing! Kati, the owner, was a phone call away and had lots of suggestions of things to do that would be suitable for our group (with kids). The area is wonderful - beaches, restaurants, Cabo Blanco nature reserve, a local butterfly garden (a hit with the kids) and much more. However, just hanging out, cooking and eating in that tranquil setting was often enough for us.
It was the nature surrounding this astounding place that really blew us away. We had a birding scope set up on the upstairs bedroom deck as well as a few pairs of binoculars. We all had fun identifying parrots, flycatchers, motmots, cuckoos and more. It was astounding. The kids loved seeing the howler monkeys, the iguanas, the interesting insects, reptiles, the coatis, and agoutis. There was a tree frog in our upstairs bathroom for a few days. Beautiful! The views from every vantage point are really stunning. The house is very open, but is surprisingly cool. We used blankets at night, especially in the upstairs bedroom - it got wonderfully breezy. We had been mildly concerned about mosquitoes, but they were a non-issue for us. This house is perfect for people who are interested (and not afraid of) nature, who don't want a cookie-cutter made-for-tourists experience. The house is full of beautiful character and Costa Rican wildlife abounds. This is not the Hyatt-Regency (or whatever). It's a hundred times better.

Wonderful, Amazing Vacation!
We have just returned from a 2 wk. stay at Montezuma Sanctuary and where do I begin to describe the fabulous vacation we had! There were 4 of us in our group, "sixty-ish" in age. For my husband and me, it was our first trip to Costa Rica. Our main goals were to see lots of wildlife and to experience at least a little of the lifestyle and culture of Costa Rica away from the very touristy places.
Our expectations were definitely surpassed! First of all, the location of the house is perfect. It sits on a hill and has the most wonderful views of the bay and surrounding jungle. The sunrises are incredible. The wildlife surrounding you will gently wake you and you will feel totally one with nature as the sun lights up the sky with gorgeous colors. The house is unique with everything being open to nature, lovely breezes always (we never once thought we should have air conditioning) and all that you need to be comfortable.
Although we did rent a car for a week to travel to Malpais, Ste. Teresa, etc. we're not sure we would bother next time. For the other week, we relied on local transportation, bus and taxi, to go to Cobano, Montezuma, Cabuya, Cabo Blanco Nature reserve, etc. We also walked several times into Montezuma (about a leisurely 30 min. walk). The road is quite steep but good exercise!
We did the walk down to the river by the path that is right beside the house. It wasn't easy for us women in the group (it's very steep and lots of slippery spots, rocks, etc.) but we were able to do it. Once down at the river, you can walk to all the waterfalls.
The beach town of Montezuma has everything you need-- groceries, souvenir boutiques, great restaurants and fabulous beaches. Great for swimming! No jet skis, banana boats or parasailing. It was school vacation and we shared the beach and town with Costa Rican families, young travelers and "older" travelers like us.
As for the wildlife, we saw more monkeys, parrots, butterflies, agouti, coati, iguanas and various insects just while sitting on the porch than I would have imagined! Certainly, many more than at Cabo Blanco.
The owner of the house, Kati, is so helpful and really wants you to have an amazing time. She has a wealth of information about the area and is just a phone call away. Johnny, the administrator, takes care of everything. He doesn't speak English but with our bit of Spanish, we had no problems.
Kati and Johnny, thank you for sharing Montezuma Sanctuary!

A great place for nature lovers
The house is really in a great location, the views from the upper floor are wonderful and there is a nice, well-kept garden, a river with some small waterfalls and a forest on the property. There are a lot of animals nearby - we saw capuchin monkeys and howler monkeys on the trees and a couple of coatis like to visit when there is food around. Because the concept of the house is open there might be some insects and other small animals inside but this really isn't a problem. We had a frog living in the toilet bowl for a day or two but this just gives you the feeling of living very close to nature. Although there are no locks (except for one bedroom) we felt very safe and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very recommended.

Straight Out of Fiction
My friends and I stayed here for seven amazing nights in mid-July. The villa is appropriately named. It was definitely a sanctuary from the rigors of everyday life.
Designed and built with great vision, passion and attention to detail. A great example is how it was built to accommodate the natural ventilation of the ocean breeze. There are hammocks, comfortable chairs and rocking chairs EVERYWHERE.
The downstairs has an amazing patio, which was where I fell asleep most nights with a direct view of the ocean. If that isn’t to your liking, there’s also a great deck upstairs. The bedrooms are spacious, and there’s nothing like waking up in the bed upstairs and again, opening your eyes to an ocean view. The kitchen is very well-equipped. There’s also a washing machine which was an incredible luxury to us in the midst of our sweaty travels. If you like music, I’d recommend taking some of your favorite CDs or an auxiliary cable for your Ipod as there’s a good stereo system with speakers wired throughout the villa. I can’t speak to the condition of the downstairs shower, as all four of us stuck exclusively to the upstairs bathroom because again, it offers an ocean view while you wash your hair or do your business! Let’s just say I took some of the better showers (and business-doings) of my life there.
Kati, who owns the villa, was always just a phone call away if we had any questions and was always incredibly helpful. Johnny, the administrator who lives in the tree house next to the villa, does a great job of making you feel at home and keeping the place in pristine condition.
It’s about a ten-minute hike down to the waterfall. I’d recommend not wearing flip-flops, but definitely recommend going down there. Very secluded, tranquil and beautiful. Twice on our walk to the main road where you can catch the bus we saw monkeys getting their daily fruit intake at the mango trees. Watch out for Terrance! The Costa Rican raccoon (Coati) who means you no harm but is fond of weaseling in at 5 a.m. and rifling through the trashcan. I caught him in the act once and shoed him away without any problems.
As a writer, I’d describe it as a place straight out of a great piece of fiction. The kind of place I hope I get back to at least once. I don’t handout a lot of five-star reviews, but this one makes the cut.

Beautiful, unique property in a perfect location.
Absolutely loved our stay. House is very open and so the outdoors feels as if it inside. Property is beautiful and situated to provide great ocean views. Lots of wildlife can be seen. On our last morning, we had not seen the monkeys, but had heard them during our entire stay. Finally, as we were packing, they came into sight. It was very cool and we got lots of photos. The house is really 5 minutes from Montezuma but feels as if it was worlds away. The on-site caretaker, Jhonny, was very helpful in getting us settled. The owner, Kati, offers great suggestions on thing to do in the area. if you are planning to stay in Montezuma, this is a great place to stay as the town is very close without feeling as if it is. I look forward to returning someday.

Our favorite experience since arriving in CR
WOW..Fabulous doesn't even begin to describe our time here. The home is completely open to the Rainforest, as we were told it would be. The downstairs area is a large open area that serves as the living, dining and kitchen area with an opening out to a huge patio area complete with lounge chairs, rockers and hammocks. The kitchen (as well as the rest of the house) is well equipped with everything you would ever need to prepare your meals. Kati has a sound system with speakers throughout the house.
The bedroom downstairs is a large octagonal room that is decorated perfectly and is totally secure if your a little shy about sleeping out in the open air.
The upstairs bedroom is unbelievable!!! After climbing the most unique staircase I have ever seen, you enter the master suite. Once again, the room is huge and in the shape of an octagon. The arched windows on all walls are completely open to the outside to allow the nigh time breezes off the ocean to blow through your room. This room has it's own private deck with chairs and swings sitting high above the trees with an incredible view of the Pacific. After being awakened by the Howler Monkeys we sat out on the deck and watched and listened to the forest come alive....truly spectacular!!!!
Both bathrooms are open to the forest on the side with the shower. You feel that you are showering in the middle of the forest.
Kati was a wealth of information and a delight to work with. We have since come to feel that we have a new friend her in CR.
We cannot wait for our family and friends to come visit so we can make our way back to this wonderful home.
Don't miss this one!!!

Unbeatable views with great privacy
We stayed here for three nights of our honeymoon and wish we could have stayed longer. The house is beautiful and exotic with the open floor plan and open air. We saw - and heard - a lot of wildlife, including iguanas, coatis, capuchin monkeys and many birds and butterflies. The house enjoys near total privacy in every direction. We chose not to rent a car, and it was a half-hour walk down the long hill to Montezuma and the beach, with a quick US$6 taxi ride back up to the house. A steep, but quick hike down to the river behind the house rewards you with beautiful pools and access to waterfalls, as well as even more wildlife.
The owner, Kati, was eager to offer us suggestions on transportation and gave great recommendations for our stay in San Jose, as well. Although he does not speak English (so be prepared for that), the caretaker, Johnny, is very helpful.
This is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy Costa Rica's outdoors in a unique and cozy home. It was the highlight of our trip and we highly recommend it!

Peaceful yet exotic!!
We had the opportunity to stay at Kati's house and loved the experience. Kati was so pleasant to deal with and the house was very easy to get to. It was so nice to have the open air home and being so close to nature. We had a 'natural geographic' experience and loved every minute of it. Seeing the sun rise was a beautiful site. Johnny was very helpful and it was nice to have him on the grounds as he kept a very good eye on the house. We explored the area and enjoyed coming back to the house for some quiet time. If you want to experience the open air living in Costa Rica, this is a great house to do it in.

An amazing and relaxing natural experience.
This is an amazing and unique place for a spiritual and relaxing nature experience. I am Costa Rican, so I have visited Montezuma and Cabuya almost every year, since more than 25 years, but I think this place is very special because of many reasons.
It has a 360 degrees spectacular landscape view with the sea and the coast and the typical Pacific forest, which is the home of a lot of birds and wild animals that you can see around the house and from the open wide windows of the second floor bedroom. You can enjoy the magical sound of the sea waves in one side and the murmur of the Montezuma River in the other side. The track to the river allows you to enjoy some natural and private swimming pool and several little water falls in the middle of the forest. The sky changing colors over the sea during the sun rise are incredible. And you can see the sunset over the forest, a very rare experience in y this part of the Nicoya gulf.
The house is completely integrated and open to these natural surroundings, you can enjoy the white faced and the howling monkeys that came near the house. From the open windows of the second floor bathroom you cans see the coast and the forest while you take a refreshing shower.
After visiting this place, you would wish to come back again!!

A beautifull peace oasis!
We had such a great time meeting with friends in this magnificient villa! Honnestly the photos on the profile dont't do justice to the place and don't reflect the impression we had when we first walked in. The place feels warm, inviting and has a general feel of peace and calm. I loved the concept of being "in the nature" with almost no doors and no windows. The view on the ocean was amazing and the sound of it at night like a lullaby.
The distance to the village and beach makes it an easy walk down the hill and insure you a calm and private place. The river at the back is also a nice and refreshing option and you can walk your own way to the famous 3 waterfalls of Montezuma.
Johnny (who lives next door) was really welcoming, helpfull and nice to us. We could see the attention he puts in keepping the place and the garden just perfect. Altough we did'nt meet Kati in person, the conversations we had on the phone were very friendly. She is a lovely women with a really big heart and one can tell that she is happy to share her peace of paradise.
I definitely recommand the place and thank both Kati and Johnny for giving us opportunity to build amazing memories in this wonderfull place!!
