We had a wonderful week at this historic property fully stocked with just about everything you might need. The pool was refreshing, and the beach/town/grocery store easily accessible. Dana does a careful job preparing for your visit and lovingly cares for this charming house. She is easily available and flexible. We had a relaxing week in preparation for our daughter's wedding in the area.

We were fortunate to have great weather for the week which enabled us to fully enjoy the house and the property. We had morning coffee and every meal out by the pool which has a big patio and plenty of seating including a vine covered pergola. The large yard next to the pool provided good entertainment for the kids on break from swimming. The owner provides pool and yard games for all ages. A five minute drive from the beach was great. We bothered with parking permits for Singing beach which Dana fully explains how to procure. Best beach we’ve visited in Massachusetts-good size, not too busy, nice tuck shop. The sleeping accommodations were good, the kitchen a nice place to gather and the library a nice place for the adults to decompress after the kids went to bed. Good proximity and easy access to other Cape Ann towns. My recommendation is to be sure to grab a dinner or lunch at JT Farnhams Clam shack in East Essex (cash only).

If you want the most authentic New England stay this house is definitely it! It is so big that it will take a day to get used to all the nooks & crannies. But it is the most stocked house I’ve ever stayed. The grounds are spectacular words can’t even begin to describe it. The location & proximity to every is super convenient. 20 minutes
from everywhere on
the north shore.

Dana was the most responsive and informative host we have ever encountered. The property is ideally located with a great pool and room even for a ball game. The home was equipped with every imaginable amenity (even a terrific library.)

The house had a very historic feel to it. All the beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped. The dining room was quite large, accommodating all adults easily. Kitchen table was a great spot for the kids and playing cards in the evening. The grounds are gorgeous. Having a pool made the spot perfect for the kids. Manchester is a darling town. Singing Beach was a hit with the family.

Property was gorgeous. Pool was excellent. Property manager was very responsive. We came at a very hot and humid time and it was impossible to keep the house cool. Overall, we had a great time.

Dana was an amazing host and we had a truly lovely time. The pool was so amazing and it was super fun to stay in the house. The elevator was very helpful for my elderly mother, and it is a perfect place for a multi generational family gathering.

This is a lovely, quiet and large retreat in the timeless town of Manchester-By-The-Sea. It is located close to the main highway yet you can’t hear it. Town is less than a mile away and Singing beach a bit beyond. That made for lovely morning walks to start our days.
The house was the perfect size for our party of 8. It offers large areas to gather and also smaller rooms for more privacy. Something for everyone.
We can’t wait to come back next year!

My family spent a week at the house. More like a mansion, historical and beautiful inside and out. We had a great time at the pool area, traveling to all the nice towns in close proximity.
It was a hot week but the air conditioning units and fans helped keep us cool.
The property manager was on call at all times and very responsive and quick to resolve any issues we had, which were a few minor.
Would happily book again.

We enjoyed our stay at your beautiful historic home. Thank you, Mary, for pointing us to places to dine and visit. We enjoyed dining at CK Pearl, Aillies, and the Lobster Pool. We also enjoyed visiting The Singing Beach, Coolidge Point, and Crane Estate. Dana and Mary are wonderful hosts and quick to respond and were able to take care of an issue for us in a very timely manner.

We had a wonderful stay at this home in Manchester by the Sea. It is a lovely old historic home extremely well situated close to town and transportation. It was a wonderful place to enjoy a family reunion with many meals eaten outside by the pool. We were there during an intense heat wave, so the pool was heaven and terrific way to cool down after the day's heat.

It is a beautiful, comfortable house in a lovely setting and a great location. The pool was a huge bonus. The elevator was key, as we had 2 elderly's with us. The near by beaches are beautiful and easy to get to. The owner was very helpful and responded very quickly with any questions. The house is a little difficult to find, especially in the evenings. Waze does not take you to the correct driveway. Overall, it was a great stay!

Beautiful property. Beautiful location. House is fantastic, grounds are amazing and my family couldn’t get enough of the pool. Centrally located between Gloucester and Salem.
I’ve stayed in many properties and never have I had better communication with host, always made sure we were comfortable. My family thanks you for a great time.

Lovely grounds, huge pool, plenty of space to spread out, well-stocked pantry... so many things you don't find in many rental houses. Our multi-generational family really enjoyed our stay. Close to so many small towns and an easy trip into Boston. Dana and her sister Mary were friendly and responsive and clearly invested in us enjoying our stay in their home.

The property was more than a house it was an experience. The overall ambiance of this historic property and area were perfect for living a part of history. Family manager was informative, warm and concerned for our satisfaction. From cider mills to whale watching we more than filled our time with top notch experiences.

What a lovely property. We had the best time during our daughter’s wedding week. House is well appointed. Dana and her sister Mary were more than accommodating and went out of there way to make our stay easy. There support staff were very nice and helpful. We can’t say enough positive about our stay.

Beautifully done home with terrific personal touches and loads of amenities. Spacious rooms, friendly and responsive hosts. Manchester is the perfect location, right in the midst of the North Shore’s favorite locales including the best lobsters and clams. We hope to return!

The highlight of this property is the large pool! Lovely kitchen for cooking, although we didn’t do that much! Only 2 miles from a beautiful beach.

My family of 4 had the most wonderful stay at Dana's beautiful property. The house was quirky and elegant but well-lived in. The pool and the outside grounds were gorgeous. Beautiful landscaping and trees. We were lucky enough to be there when the Mountain Laurels were in full bloom. One of the best parts of the rental was it's convenience to everything in the beautiful town of Manchester-By-The-Sea. My teenage girls could bike to both town (1-mile away from property with lots of cute stores and restaurants) and to Singing Beach. It gave them a lot of independence in the safest of towns. My girls mentioned how incredibly nice everyone they met was and we couldn't agree more. The town was bustling with a lot of positive, young energy and it was a lot of fun. Dana and her sister Mary were terrific to communicate with. Mary met us upon arrival and gave us a thorough tour of the property. She also gave us recommendations on hikes, biking trails, restaurants and other things to do in the area. Bring bikes because everything is convenient and accessible to bike to from the house location. My girls are still raving about how much fun they had and we will definitely try to rent again in the future. Thank you so much for being such considerate and generous hosts! Hope you and your family enjoy the rest of the summer.

My family and I had the most delightful vacation at this home. We enjoyed our days by the beautiful pool or on Singing Beach just a walk or bike ride away. Our evening dinners were at home where we enjoyed cooking together in the very nice kitchen or at some of the great local restaurants. We hope to return next summer!

A sprawling mansion located just a mile from Main Street in a quiet neighborhood, adjacent to Rt. 128, makes for a very comfortable vacation get-away. My family stayed there the first week of August -- ideal go-to-the-beach weather, but decided the home and pool had so much to offer they never left the place. The owners were exception hosts, checking in with us regularly and the staff constantly met our needs. This is a wonderful get-away space. Well worth the investment.

What a wonderful home. It's the perfect family home, emphasis on the word family. Walking through each room, admiring the furnishings, prints, photos, books, etc., it's clear that this was a very special place for the Vermilye family for many, many years. This is reinforced when speaking with Dana and Mary (the property managers) who were a pleasure to communicate with. My family and I (7 adults, 3 small children) felt very lucky to have stayed here. From a practical standpoint, the house more than met our needs in terms of space and comfort. I could go on about every detail of our experience, but I think my nephew (who just turned 5) sums up my family's feelings perfectly: "Uncle Bri, this house is really cool!" and "This is my favorite vacation ever!"

Highly recommend staying in this spacious & charming historic home. Has the necessary updates without losng the charm. Located near several beaches, trails, town center. We enjoy biking into town or early morning walks on the beaches. We explored nearby towns (Rockport, Gloucester, Essex) & dined at amazing restaurants. Morning coffee on the side porch was the perfect start to the day. Looking forward to returning this summer. The hosts are welcoming and can offer recommendations.

This tranquil property is stunning with grand, ancient trees, spacious lawns and beautiful plantings! The property evokes the graciousness of an earlier era with the large yet cozy home dating from the 1700s; however, all of the conveniences of today can be found in the comfortable eat-in kitchen. Located one mile from Singing Beach, close to Crane's Beach, and the charm and beauty of Cape Ann at your fingertips. Highly recommend!

A beautifully kept, elegantly furnished house with plenty of a room for a large family to spread out. The grounds are stunning, the beach is nearby and the hosts couldn't be more welcoming!

This is an amazing property and one-of-a-kind estate home in a fantastic location. Manchester By The Sea is a great town and near many North Shore treasures. Singing Beach 1 mile away along with many other beaches nearby. Walking trails abound. The home is extremely spacious as well as the property. Who can not marvel at a 300+ yr old birch tree?! Our host was a delight and very responsive to any need. Home was very well suited to our needs and we would love to return. Our very favorite restaurant was I Pazzi in Danvers followed closely by Foreign Affairs in Manchester. Honorable mentions to the fairly new Mexican restaurant in Manchester (which my husband described their stuffed port chop as the best he has ever had) and The Landing in Manchester (which is a great close go-to option). Our favorite hike is Halibut Point in Rockport.

Beautiful house and location - and could not have had nicer hosts. Manchester by the Sea is a gorgeous town, and I would really recommend anyone who has the chance to stay here!

This is a lovely home on the North Shore, only a few minutes from the charming town of Manchester. The house was clean and well maintained. There is an eat-in kitchen with everything you need for cooking and serving meals. The kitchen table is in a bay window area overlooking the back garden area with chairs and a banquette covered in a country French print. The lovely living room has arrangements of comfortable armchairs and couches covered in floral chintz with a door opening to the back patio. There is also a beautiful wood-paneled library with comfortable seating around a large flat screen TV and a dining room that seats ten or so people. The upstairs bedrooms sleep 8 comfortably and are well furnished with good linens and plenty of towels. The house is set on a long, curving driveway with a lot of land in front of and behind the house, where our son could practice his soccer. We really enjoyed the town of Manchester, which has several restaurants (The Landing was our favorite) and one of the best beaches around (Singing Beach). (White and Black beaches are also close by, and we enjoyed late afternoon walks there.) Gloucester and Rockport are very close, and we enjoyed having dinner in Gloucester and visiting the many artist areas in both towns, as well as Halibut Point State Park in Rockport. Crane's Beach is about a twenty minute drive, and we spent a day there. It's one of the most spectacular beaches we've been to. (You have to pay to park and it gets crowded on nice days, so it's best to get there on the early side.) The house is also close to the town of Essex, which is known for its many antique stores, as well as Woodman's, the best place for lobster and fried seafood in the area. (Best not to go during the busiest times, as the line can get quite long. We discovered that you can order take out and then go pick it up.) The house, with its back patio, spacious lawn, and proximity to beaches, is great for the summer, but it's also a cozy house with several fireplaces and a library that would seem to be perfect for fall and winter rentals as well. We intend to go back when we visit the area again.
