Lee was very accommodating and nice. The lake is awesome. It's a cottage. Remined me of my grandfathers cottage on Lake Erie when I was a kid. Had fun.

The location is beautiful, right on the water. The host is wonderful and the place is stocked with everything you might need for a great getaway.

My cousins and I loved staying at the Camp. The neighborhood is quiet and serene. The birds and other water fowl, along with waking to the sun were treats. Owasco Lake is unbelievably clean and we enjoyed time in the water and relaxing on the waterfront. Mr. Holmes is such a great host. He greeted us and walked us through the camp. He was responsive to any questions. We would love to return.

The deck right over the water was great!! And the house gets morning sun and then stays relatively cool since you’re out of the sun for the heat of the day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Lee was accessible and attentive if anything was needed. It is not a luxurious place, more of a camp but right on the water! Don’t forget sheets and towels and anything else you might need for the kitchen. Kitchen was stocked w appliances and dishes etc but make sure you remember butter, condiments, etc. The deck on the water is a flight of steps down from the main house - so often we ran up & down as we spent much of our time down there. Had company over and parking was not an issue. The house had a great indoor area overlooking the lake which I’m sure we would have used had it not been great weather! Lots of furniture and games out there for a rainy day! Great dock to jump into the lake from and we had a great time.

Great location! Perfect for family (and dog) getaway!!! Right on the water, so easy access to lake and all its beauty. Gorgeous sunsets! Quiet, private neighborhood. Nice to stroll through.
Bonus…. Owner Lee was a nice guy and easy to communicate with. Thank you for sharing your little slice of Heaven with us, Lee! We had a great time!

We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage easily accommodated our family of five and 2 active Golden Retrievers. Our host was immediately responsive to our needs and greeted us upon arrival. The location on the lake is superb with a lovely deck and a dock for our boat. Great time and we were up to see the beautiful sunrise every day!

Several days before the our stay there was a problem with our reservation. There was a 24 hour period that our money was refunded and we had no rental and a wedding to go to. Not sure what happened but the owner corrected it and we were booked again.
This camp is right on the water. Beautiful setting! It rained a lot while we were there but there is a roof over the patio so you could still eat outside. It is an older home so there were some nails sticking up on the side dock area. The dock does not have a lift like I had seen in a picture. Overall we had a great time?

I was here with my family, and we had two Golden Retrievers. There was plenty of space and privacy for everyone. Water area is nice and relaxing. Just bring water shoes as there is no sand and it’s a bit rocky and has sharp mussel shells. Lee, the host, was Very polite, communicative and accommodating throughout the check-in and checkout process, and was also very responsive over email and text message. Some of the pics of the docks are outdated and Do not reflect the actual dock that comes with the rental property. The pictures make it seem like there is a boatlift associated with the rental property, but that dock / lift has been moved to their personal property. The boat lift was actually one the main reasons why we chose to stay here, however, We were fortunate enough that there were no major storms so we were able to leave our boat in the water. Boat launches are at the farthest ends of the lake.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!
Did I mention this place has a great location, lol? The cottage is on Owasco Lake, westside, 10 min. from Moravia. and 15 min. from Auburn. Both towns have great state parks, and conservation areas plus good restaurants. We were located just feet from the water and accessed the large front deck area easily by 14 steps outside (with a hand rail). Entrance to the cottage was 1 step and parking was close and convenient. Inside we found an open living/kitchen/dining area with big screen tv, bedrooms, a remodeled bath, and a huge sun porch (the length of the house). Everything was clean,
well decorated and comfy. The sun porch had a huge dining table and tons of lounging space including 2 sofabeds. I put that porch to good use, sleeping nights out there listening to the soothing sound of waves down below. It felt like I was on a cruise ship with the balcony doors letting in the sounds of the water. Waking up to a gorgeous sunrise over the lake was a treat.
Outdoor features were its huge deck (half of which has a roof covering from the overhang of the sun porch), side yard overlooking the lake, stone beach, swim platforms, and fishing dock. It is fairly private with no close neighbors.
Our welcoming host family provided us with suggestions for dinner and a perfect spot high above the lake to watch the sunset. Lee even brought us wood for a campfire by the water. We were only able to stay 3 nights this trip, but are already in the process of reserving a week for next year!
To top it all off they allowed our 2 golden retrievers to join us. We were able to arrange the outdoor furniture to block off the deck, so they could relax safely outside with us. Under our watchful eye they chased each other around the beach, splashing in the water and chasing balls and sticks. The family's granddaughter loved petting and playing with them. Our hosts told us about a good area for walking them along the lake and every night we had happy, tired dogs snoring away! It was a perfect spot for our family and we are so glad to have found it!

Amazing Stay on the Lake
We had a very enjoyable and relaxing long weekend away at Lee's lake house. The house was perfect for us and plenty of space, with a kitchen, two living areas, two bedrooms and a bathroom. The outdoor deck was great and the view is amazing. What really drew us to this property is that it was right on the lake and is pet friendly. We brought our two dogs along and they loved getting to run through the water and play in the lake. Lee was very helpful and communicative every step of the way and I wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Lee was such a welcoming host. He communicated often and clearly, and gave us a wonderful tour of the property at check in. The location was beautiful and exactly as described. We had the best time fishing off the private dock and relaxing next to the firepit. The inside of the cabin was a little dated but very clean. It had all the amenities needed for the perfect stay. We loved our weekend away and we can't wait to come back for a longer stay!

Great lakefront stay!
We had a great time at the lake. Lee was a gracious host. The house is situated right on the lake and has a great deck and dock for plenty of waterfront space and views. The house itself is exactly what you picture when thinking of a charming lake house, the back room/enclosed porch has an incredible view of the lake. The surrounding area has lots of great restaurants, breweries, and wineries as well. We would definitely stay again!

Beautiful lake and area
The lake is absolutely beautiful and the cottage is directly on the lake, with amazing views. Lee was wonderful and very responsive and an immense help in unprecedented weather conditions; we appreciated all his efforts. The local marina was also great, and it was incredible to be able to rent a boat, if even for a day due to hurricane conditions. It meant the world to us to be able to travel with our pup. And even in a hurricane, we were able to find local gems like the wonderful breakfast diner tucked away on a back road, the yummy ice cream parlor in town just south of the cottage, a nature trail named after our relatives and hiking the falls in the rain.

This stay at the cottage brought back memories of my childhood when my large family and cousins would gather at a cottage and enjoy swimming boating and fishing. The view from the dining area was beautiful. The cottage had all the comforts of home, and I loved the old retro feel of the inside. It could have used air conditioning because the weather was extremely hot during our stay. The dock was a bit unsteady to walk on but we managed. Thanks for the great stay!!

Relaxing stay
We had a wonderful time at the lake! Lee was an amazing host and greeted us the first day to give a tour of the cute house. It was right on the water and the views were beautiful. Our two dogs loved swimming every day and we enjoyed relaxing and jumping off the swim platform. Lee was so kind to set up a hose so we could rinse our dogs off after swimming. The water was clear and we saw some fish. The house had everything we needed and was very clean! We will definitely be back! Lots to do around the area. It was beautiful! Thank you Lee!

Beautiful stay on the lake
Lee is a wonderful host, and the house was very clean. The kitchen is well appointed and had everything we needed. The cottage stayed very warm, despite nighttime temperatures in the thirties. We're hoping to come back in the summer!

Great Property For Our Needs
The Holmes Lake Cottage is just that, a nice sized cottage directly on the lake. There are 2 bedrooms; one room has a full-size bed, the other has a full-size bed plus a twin. The main living area is big, with plenty of chairs and a sectional sofa with a huge flat screen TV.
A full kitchen with all the cooking niceties (refrigerator, freezer, stove top, oven, microwave, kitchen table w/chairs, toaster and a coffee maker), and a propane BBQ outside. We did not really have to bring a thing for our needs.
There is WIFI and cable for use. Which was great as this was a “working” vacation.
One of the best areas of the house is the enclosed porch which can be closed off from the main area via French doors – again, it is big with 2 fully furnished sitting areas and a huge table for meals. The windows all open to the lake. We had “camp” outs with our dogs on the porch for several over nights.
Of course, we were there for the lake and Owasco did not disappoint – it is a beautiful clear lake and when the boating activity settles down for the evening, placid and calm. Fishing right from the shore was fun. The catch: several species of bass, perch, sunfish and a carp.
The topography of the property is hilly, but the stone beach and dock area are sloped but not so much that you can’t sit in a chair (which I did every day and night to fish) – oh – which there are plenty of out door chairs provided as well.
Our dogs loved the property and the daily visit by the ducks.
Lee is a great host, concerned with how our visit was and even texted me if it would be ok to mow the lawn – he did not want to disturb us!
The area is great with a Wegman’s grocery store and shopping within 8 miles and a restaurant just down the West Lake Road.
We enjoyed our week and would book again – cheers.

We enjoyed staying here ! Had our Springer Spaniel "Merlin" and cat "Sunny" along.. Site is right on the water...great to hear the waves at night. Lee and Debbie were excellent hosts. We hope to return.

Beautiful lakefront
We enjoyed our weekend with family members in this spacious, comfortable house right on beautiful Lake Owasco. The lake is crystal clear. Autumn is a lovely quiet time to be there, surrounded by fall color, ducks and geese landing on the lake, and at times wind whipping up whitecaps. The house is much more spacious and pleasant than the photos would suggest. We would certainly return for another visit.

The Holmes Family Lake House was truly a home away from home for us. We were warmly welcomed by Lee, the owner, who gave us a quick orientation and answered our questions regarding sites and recreation in the Auburn area. From then on Lee was a call or text away if we needed anything more. Everything about the house was in great shape, clean, and well maintained. Do remember to bring your own sheets, towels, as per the instructions. The cable TV, DVD player, stereo and internet were working well when we needed some downtime. You may want to bring some of your own DVDs and/CDs along with you.
The lapping waves of the lake were very relaxing while we were awake, falling asleep and waking up. During our seven day stay we were able to view several sunrises over the lake. You can view the sunrise from one bedroom, while on the enclosed porch or from the dock. From this dock to enjoy the outdoors while soaking up the goodness of nature. The way the home is structured, the porch covers part of the dock area below so it is pleasant to eat or drink there even if there is a little bit of rain.
The small indoor pets with us had plenty of space to nap, explore and play throughout the floor plan. They enjoyed the outdoor experience (windows, sunlight, breeze, and nature’s gentle noises) with the safety of being indoors.
Auburn is about a 10 minute drive and has a wide selection of restaurants. They are as good as or better than many restaurants in the greater New York City Area. Plus the laid back atmosphere made the meals that much more enjoyable.
Auburn is also a great place for exploring US history include the Harriet Tubman Home, Seward Family Home and the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center.
Also the self guided walking tour of South Street in Auburn was interesting with a Memorial for our Service Men and Women, a 9/11 memorial and seeing 19th and early 20th century architecture. One of those houses was the Dulles home (John Foster Dulles – Secretary of State to President Eisenhower and father of Avery Cardinal Dulles)
The downtown Auburn area was getting renovated with a new parking garage and other updates, so there are plenty of other good things to see in Auburn and neighboring towns.
We would definitely go back to the lake house in the spring time season again or try the fall season for the foliage or the summer for more lake actives.

The property owner was very responsive and his lake home, which has been in his family since the 1960’s, was charming, clean and right on the lake. It met all of our needs and was very reasonably priced.
