A week in Old Lyme
Michael was a great host for our family get together in Old Lyme Shores. The house was well equipped for all of us to just move in and enjoy ourselves without having to worry about anything. We would definitely come back for a future rental with Michael.

Life at the CT shore
Roomy house with lots of sleeping possibilities but very close to railroad. Washing machine often took 2-3x the time stayed on the front of the machine.

Second time staying in this lovely home; comfy, close to stores and recreation. Mike is wonderful to work with and I'll definitely stay here again.

If I travel to the area again next year I'll be checking the availibilty of this place first!
I cannot tell you how pleased I was with my recent stay at this property. The house itself was much more spacious than I had expected it to be. The kitchen is fully equipped with a Keurig, the bathroom has Qtips, the refrigerator has condiments, I could go on about every room!
The upstairs has three bedrooms with a full bath and downstairs has a Large bedroom with a full bath. Downstairs also has a daybed along with another couch. The downstairs would be perfect for a couple with a few kids. The house is situated at the end of an extremely quiet neighborhood. The Amtrak line runs pretty close to the property but it certainly wasn't loud unless you were on the deck. Even being on the deck you couldn't feel the train go by and the deck is lovely. It's completely surrounded by trees and greenery so it feels completely private.
It has parking for up to three and you can see the beach from the front of the house. It was ideal for me and my family.
The owner was super easy to work with. He stopped by while we were there to bring a full propane tank for the grill and to make sure we didn't need anything. I would definitely recommend this property!

Perfect...location, house, kitchen, deck, outside shower, beach, and very accommodating owner, Mike
Mike, the owner, could not have been more welcoming and helpful! The house was beautiful; the kitchen fully equipped even with herbs and spices; the living room pleasant. The train was intriguing! Never disturbed us. The steep circular staircase to the 4th bedroom was an issue for small children and me (age 70 with cane...I never used it). The walk to the beach was easy...just used care crossing rt. 156. The beach was beautiful. Having good laundry machines was helpful...small children needed laundry every day. And the outside shower was great! As was a hose at the front door to wash your feet before entering the house. There were five of us and it all was so nice. Thank you, Mike. Oh, the very close-by carousel was perfect for the 3 1/2 yr old and we went to Mystic one day, easy distance...under thirty minutes. Thank you so much Mike!

A great place to stay and a wonderful owner to work with
First and foremost the owner, Michael was a superb to work with. Family members were coming to CT for a funeral. We were all scheduled to arrive Jan 4, yes the same day as the blizzard. All four of our flights from CA and MI were all canceled. We were all rescheduled for the next day. The communications with Michael was timely and accurate. Everything in the home worked perfectly. His home was warm and welcoming. The home provided us a calm and inviting environment to relax and unwind. This place is number one on our list when we need a large cozy home to stay in. Jim

Enjoyable
Lovely, clean, nicely furnished, well maintained home in a peaceful area. The patio is wonderful to relax on & trains truly weren't that bothersome as they passed quickly and weren't overly loud - never interrupted my sleep! Rented while working in the area for several weeks, it was fantastic to have everything needed to be comfortable; nearby groceries & shopping made this "home away from home". Not having opportunity to use the recreational amenities, it's nice those things are available and I would highly recommend this home for vacation also.
Mike was wonderful to work with & quickly addressed the few small issues that arose, and it was my pleasure to meet this gentleman. I would definitely rent this home again should I ever be in CT - whether for work or vacation. Grazie, Mike, for everything :)

Very comfortable.
The 8 of us were very comfortable in Michael's beach house - very good linens, great kitchen, air conditioning worked well, great deck and grill, bathrooms well-equipped, easy walk to the beach. An easy week for us.
On the not-so-good side, passing trains were frequent but not difficult to adapt to. The spiral staircase was very narrow and difficult for some of us to manage.

Great beach house for the price!
This cozy little home is perfect for a family getaway to the connecticut coastline. My family and I stayed here while we waited to close on our new house and it was perfect for us. The house was clean and well functioning.

Perfect!
All the good things you see written in other reviews are true!
Upon our arrival, Mike was there to greet us and tell us about the house and local activities. Then he left us alone for the rest of the week with an invitation to call him if we needed anything!
The House
Fantastic! It’s like two mini-apartments, the main upstairs and the finished cellar (which has a huge bedroom, and other places to sleep, a mini-living area with couch / chair, tv etc).
Air-conditioning was great, fully-loaded kitchen (pots pans utensils, plates, glasses, etc), washer dryer seemed new, free wifi, sheets, bath towels, etc.... clean and comfortable overall (I believe Mike’s family spends a lot of time there… it’s their home, not just some cash-cow rental property as you may have stayed in the past).
The Private Beach
Look straight down the road from the house and there it is!…. . takes 10 minutes or so to walk it, very safe, slow moving street ( but you need to cross highway 156 which is no big deal, but pay attention).....we walked it several times , including the surrounding 4-block private roads … great place get exercise (walk / run). No parking at the private beach, so for those who can’t walk, they must be dropped off, and someone must later go get the car to pick them up... We went there almost every day and night. No food, coolers, ball playing or alcohol on the private beach…. A little boring, but keeps it a clean family atmosphere with very few seagulls. If you are cool about it, you can sip a beer or two, and lightly toss around a ball as long as you are away from others (we did, no problems).
There is a public beach…. $15 for a one day pass, allows coolers………….. went there once, not any better than the private beach…. Just more people watching and seagulls….a little looser rules (we found no need to go a 2nd time)
Extras
In the shed: 5 bikes, 5 beach chairs, beach umbrella, beach shovel, blanket, sand pals, a cart to wheel the stuff down to the beach…. Etc, etc (Only negative: There are 5 bikes… only two were working, disappointed as we had 5 people , but not a big deal (Mike… that’s an easy fix my friend!))
The Amtrak train you may have read about: passenger train whizzes by every “now & then”…. 8 seconds of smooth train sound, no big deal(not a slow noisy cargo train ).
Drive short distances to great Harbor restaurants! Go to Mystic for sure!
Great place for my old dog too!
We will go there again!

Review Rental 994722
The house was clean and equipped as described. The layout of the house was unique with 3 bedrooms, a full bath, kitchen, eating area and living room on the first floor. You could then descend a spiral staircase to a finished basement including with a large bedroom, sitting/TV area, bath w/shower and wash room. There was a deck of the first floor that overlooked a large well maintained yard. A minor drawback was the close proximity to the Amtrack rail lines. The owner met us when we arrived and showed around the house, giving us access to the shed with bicycles. The house was at the end of a block with nice safe streets to walk our dog. it was about 10-15 minute walk to a nice private beach. We would recommend this house, particularly to families who travel with their dogs.

Fun for the Whole Family
Our stay at this beach house in Old Lyme was so much fun. We loved that there was ample parking and the yard was so big. The house fit us all nicely and is very private and away from the crowds but yet close enough to walk to the beach and to the main drag where the carousel, arcade and ice cream are. We would spend a good amount of time at the beach then walk home and have a nice barbeque. The best part for me was that there is so much fantastic kayaking to do in the Rivers and in the Sound ... all within minutes from the house. We also spent a day at nearby Mystic Seaport and at Mystic Aquarium. Don't forget the bikes, too. My kids love spending their down time bike riding around the neighborhood. Another day we explored the town of Essex which is an adorable, old fashioned New England seaport town. The time went so fast we need to go back and explore some more... especially the kayaking! Thanks, Mike, for making everything so easy.
