We are a family with three teenage-kids from germany and had a great stay. Ellen and Yo made us feel like home. They picked us up from the station so we didn't had to walk with the luggage - the way to the house is not far but a bit hilly. We could use the kitchen and the living room was a common place for everybody. Ellen and Yo had good hints for our sightseeing trips and were very helpful and just great hosts.

Yo and Ellen were extremely hospitable, even driving us to the local grocery store and the Miyajima ferry. it was great conversing with other travelers around the dinner table.
As it is a functioning family home, it could have been better organized and cleaner.

The hosts, Yo and Ellen's home was literally a home away from home experience! They showed me above and beyond hospitality unlike any other guesthouse or hotel I've stayed at, I enjoyed conversations with them and the other guests, and I felt privileged to stay in an authentic Japanese home in such a quiet and beautiful neighborhood with some of the warmest hosts I'll ever meet!
I stayed in a gorgeous traditional tatami style room and got to see a fantastic view of the whole island of Miyajima from the balcony connected to my room. It was a more magical experience than staying on the island to only get a limited view of one part of the island at insane prices.
As I learned later, many places on Miyajima close very early so it would have been very inconvenient to stay on the island. The supermarket close to their house is open from 7:00 until 23:00, and there's also two convenient stores very close by open 24 hours if I needed it. Fortunately, Yo and Ellen thought of everything because everything I needed including snacks, breakfast items like bread, cereal, jam, and milk, and many drinks were available for guests to use!
They offered the best advice you could only get from locals about Miyajima. Yo had many experiences working in other guesthouses and hotels many years ago so he knows more than anyone about the best places to explore on the island. Apparently he's been hosting for 10 years and you can clearly feel his love for his hometown!
As great as those two were, the highlight of my stay was their adorable 2 year old who kept me company and showered everyone with so much love that she'll make your heart melt! It was amazing how they manage to stay so attentive to their guests, responding almost immediately to messages and requests while raising a family. I would absolutely come back!

The hosts are more than amazing! They were very nice picking me up from Miyajima station and took me back in the morning. I forgot sth really important at the house and they sent it to me really fast to my new destination. I can't be more thankful, for real.

Great position close to the train and ferry station, around 10 mins walk. Hosts were so kind and let us park our car in their property. Our room had a balcony with a nice view on Miyajima island. We had the opportunity to experience the Japanese life since the family is living in the house, we would definitely come back!

Dirty room, messy house, dirty bed sheets, never moped the floor, needed to kill 12 mosquitos before being able to sleep, worst location ever, owner seems not to care about room conditions. I had to walk 20 min uphill for a dirty room. We have a different concept of what is a private room. Room's lock was broken, no security at all.

location too far from the station, luckily there is free transfer to the hotel. Room messy not comfortable, was given room with 2 double decker bed making the room with no space to walk nor putting our luggage.

Everything! Honestly, the hosts made me feel like I was a member of their family and I was so welcomed! From a fridge of cold drinks on arrival to spending time with the family chatting to their daughter listening to me strum a guitar to a relaxed breakfast, it was exactly what I needed after a hard day's trekking through Miyajima! Yo has so many wonderful stories to tell and Ellen is so warm and welcoming. Perfect for solo travellers and small groups alike. I actually can't praise this place enough!
Nothing? Japanese idea of perfection is to have one flaw, Full House's idea is just to do everything well and let you enter their flock!

The facilities were not clean at all, specially the bathroom with used shavers next to the shower an very dirty. also the bed had hair in the bedsheets

There's a nice kitchen table to meet other people. A certain amount of food and drink are provided. You can leave a donation if you take too much!
You are close to Miyajima island. The owner drove us there in the morning to catch the ferry.
You are staying in someone's house so to say what we didn't like is to comment on their preferences.
I would have preferred the place to be less cluttered - the kitchen, bathroom, our room. They have a young child, which might make things difficult but it's not cheap to stay there.
On a practical note, there is one general toilet (another for women only) and one shared shower for everyone. There weren't many people staying when we were there, so it was fine.

Hosts are super friendly and hospitable. The whole community is located on a hill which made it quite special. View from the balcony was also beautiful. It’s just like being at home during my stay.

The hosts are really, really accommodating. Offered me a ride and really told me what to see. Honestly, I had a great 1 day at the place. It felt like living at a family house. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The rooms are huge and the futon beds are comfy.
The only issue was that I lost my JR pass and asked if I could cancel like 10 days in advance but they refused. I was willing to let go of some money as well but they followed the booking.com guide. I can't really complain though as they went by the book but really wish if they could help in the situation.
Also their place is on a hill so please give them a call if you are walking with a big luggage. It was really exhausting especially because I had a bad knee. But in general they are amazing and would help you out in all other ways

Hosts were amazing, they really made me feel comfortable, as my second home. I got a ride from ferry station and to JR station (it helped me a lot). Iou-san also knows a lot Miyajima, please ask him anything you want to know (places to visit and time).Thanks for the experience. I strongly recommend stay there.

House is beautiful and clean. Great company sharing dinner at the table with other guests. Hosts were extremely kind, going far above what they had to do to accommodate me. I was driven to and from the train station, was lent some hiking sticks to climb Mt Misen, Ellen helped plan my route through Miyajima like a travel agent would, she cooked oyster dinner for me and the other guests, and my baggage was stored while I was on Miyajima, all as a courtesy to their guest. The private room I slept in was styled with traditional Japanese decor, including a tatami mat floor. The bed on the floor was surprisingly comfortable even though it's not a mattress like I usually use; much better than the capsule hotel I stayed in before. :-) No problems communicating with the hosts, even as an English-only speaker. Ellen is very attentive to messages sent through Booking.com.
It is not actually on Miyajima island, though you can see the Otorii gate from the balcony if you look closely. It's within close walking distance of the JR Ferry, but it's likely that Ellen will drive you anyway.

It was a good location for visiting Miyajima. The hosts Ellen and Yo were friendly and helpful.
There was some pressure on the bathroom as there was just one shared bathroom.

Ellen and Jo are the owners of the place and live there, great, lovely, and warm towards people. Had a full selection of snacks and drinks for you to use if you would like, without additional charge but only a small donation box if you thought you had too many drinks.
Overall the rooms were really tidy, and the hosts offered much more than was necessary and expected. Drinks, appetizers, rides from the train station and back.
Would go back to this place if I were again in Miyajima

Ellen & Yo were delightful hosts and made us feel really welcome. Ellen met us at the railway station and ran us to and from the ferry to Miyajima whenever we wanted. It was like living with the family, and we really enjoyed socialising with the other guests who came from all over the world. In fact we extended our stay by 2 nights.
We thought the house was actually on the island itself and when we found that it is on the mainland, we were a little disappointed. But, in fact, the ferry is so near, is so fast, there is one every 10 minutes, and so cheap, that it is probably better not to stay on the island.

Located in front of Miyajima island, Yo and Elle were really helpful with tips and they provide hosts more than expected. They also gave me a ride to the closest train station .
I am really satisfied of my staying.

Feel so lucky to find such an excellent guesthouse in Miyajimaguchi!
The location is great, within easy walking distance of Miyajima ferry terminal.
The owners, Yo and Ellen, were incredibly hospitable and hard-working, doing more than expected to make sure my stay was as comfortable as possible and catering to all requests. They both spoke English well (especially Ellen who was fully fluent), perfect for a traveller like me with limited Japanese communication capabilities.
If you are staying here to visit Itsukushima Island, I highly recommend conferring with Yo first prior to your journey for sightseeing and activity advice. The locations and paths he suggested made my experience much more splendid than it would've been if I planned it myself.
Overall a 10/10 experience and the best accomodation I've stayed at so far in Japan. Perfect groups of guests of any size as well as solo travellers.

Yo, Ellen and little Yurisa are very friendly, this is the second time i've stayed with them and they couldn't be more helpful. From lending walking sticks to helping me plan where I should go in Hiroshima! You couldn't ask for friendlier, more helpful hosts! Thank you very much!

A wonderful stay at Yo and Ellen. Very very friendly, they made us fee welcome, picked us up from the train station drove us for food. It was such a pleasant stay. Almost as if you are visiting friends. They provided us a lovely room, with a beautiful view. Provided lots of tips and access to the island. Flexible with check in’s.
I enjoyed our stay and it was perfect for our situation. The location was slightly removed from the tourist area, we were told about 10 minutes, however Yo and Ellen offered to drive us everywhere! We didn’t mind it but good to be aware, the accommodation is shared with the hosts.
