About this house rental
Welcone to The Jolly Moose!
NOTICE : Before submitting a booking request for the Summer of 2023, please make sure to secure your car rental, as availability of rental cars in Newfoundland may be limited.
In the middle of Gros-Morne National Park, designated as a World Heritage site by UNESCO, sits the quaint village of Rocky Harbour.
The village is an enclave within Gros Morne National Park, and thus residents and tourists alike are close to hiking trails with spectacular views, boat tours, heated indoor swimming pool with hot tub and cross-county ski trails in season.
Our house sits on the south shore of Rocky Harbour. It has its own beach and wharf. Rocky Harbour is a working fishing harbour so expect to see fishermen heading out towards the lighthouse in the early hours of morning and returning laden down with catches from mid-morning onwards. Our wharf and beach gather the flotsam and jetsam of a fishing port. Although care should be taken when playing in this area, great fun can be had exploring the beach fossicking treasures washed in by the sea.
The rental property is a modern and spacious (1400 sq. ft., or 130 sq. meters) house on the water front. The covered veranda/deck is an ideal spot to sit with an early morning cup of coffee or tea to read a book or just enjoy the solitude of the breaking day. During spring, summer and fall it is ideal for eating outdoors, watching the sun dip on the horizon.
Be it in winter (typically milder than on the continent due to maritime climate) or in summer (fresher, for the same reason), the area offers multiple opportunities for outdoor activities. Swimming is reserved for the strong-willed souls (water temperatures range from 12 to 16C degrees in summer and from 0 to 5C degrees in winter).
The main bedroom offers glimpses of Gros Morne from the bedroom window, which reveals the ever-changing colours and character of this impressive landform. The room is tastefully furnished with Queen-sized bed and bedside tables, quality bed linens and has its own walk-in wardrobe and ensuite bathroom.

Great house to stay in Rocky Harbour. We explored Norris Point and surrounding areas. Close to many restaurants and hikes.
Would highly recommend.

Lots of outdoor seating choices.

Not our best Vrbo experience. Could use some freshening up. The pictures really did not reflect the house too well.

The house was nice but not the most comfortable. We would have loved to have a coffee by the water or even on the back deck but there were no comfortable chairs to sit on. There were 4 folding little wood chairs and after a long hike you can’t possibly be comfortable on them. The earwig situation in the house made us very uncomfortable.

The house is perfect, in great shape, very clean, and perfectly located for enjoying Gros Morne National Park hiking trails that are both north and south of the house location.
Best place for a "fresh breakfast" and at least one dinner is Java Jack's.
Again, perfect place to stay with a back porch to enjoy the start and end of the day.

My son and I recently visited New Foundland for his high school graduation. The house was perfect. It was very clean and perfectly located for our daily outings into Gros Morne National Park. The house had all of the amenities for our trip and allowed us to cook several meals at home and also visit some great local restaurants. Also the deck views of the water with my morning coffee were remarkable as I waited for the 18 yr old son to wake up. We often went from dense fog to complete sunshine or from sunshine to dense fog and mist while he was snoozing. I hope to return.

We had a great mini vacation and the property made it extremely enjoyable. Loved being on the water and watching the sun set and tides of the ocean.

The house is accurately described. Beverley greeted us upon arrival with fresh fruit with crackers and cheese! Totally unexpected. We all enjoyed our stay. Great location on the water and within walking distance to restaurants.

Felt like coming home
Well appointed home that had almost everything that we needed. We had a problem with the WiFi but they were in the midst of resolving it and dealt with us quite fairly.
We had lots of activities scheduled in and around Rocky Harbour and if felt like coming home at the end of each day.
Lovely home and welcoming host.
Thank you!

Great place to use as your base to explore Gros Morne
The house was easy to find, furnished beautifully and had plenty of room for the 4 of us. It was nice that each couple had their own bathrooms and each bathroom had a box of fancy soaps and lotion. The kitchen was well equipped and there was also an electric Bar-B-Q on the deck for our use. The backyard backed onto the bay and together with the small beach behind the house gave us an amazing view of the sunsets. There was lots of literature about the area as well as cds and dvds provided to us and Wi-Fi was excellent. The property manager, Beverly, met us promptly and was nothing but professional and friendly, patiently answering all of our questions. She even brought us bottled water the night before when the town was going to temporarily turned off the water for maintenance the next morning. Also the owner, Marcel, himself called to ensure that we were not put out by the temporary loss of electricity, also shut down by the town for maintenance at one point during our stay and to make sure we were happy with the accommodations. It showed us that he wasn’t just interested in running his rental as a business but as a home. We would definitely recommend this place!

Beautiful cottage
This is likely the cleanest, best equipped vacation rental we have ever had the pleasure to visit. Located in the charming village of Rocky Harbour, it is ideally situated from which to explore Gros Morne National Park. We loved being able to walk around the village to experience the culture and the food. Marcel and Ruth take great care in equipping their lovely cottage with books about local life, brochures and maps, games and pretty well anything a couple or family would want to add to their stay. In fine weather it is a pleasure sitting out on the verandah and gazing at the water and mountains. Walk down to the water at sunset and experience the beautiful colours playing on the water and the mountains. Gorgeous!

Just wonderful!
My husband and I and our two teenage sons stayed at the Jolly Moose and had a great time. The house is remarkably clean, nicely decorated and well- outfitted; certainly the most tidy and comfortable of all of our rental experiences. The location is perfect: lovely view of Rocky Harbor, quick drives to great hikes and awesome restaurants and a quick walk into town. The kitchen is small but so well laid out that cooking was a joy. We feel so lucky to have stayed at the Jolly Moose!

Perfect home base for exploring Gros Morne National Park
Great location (walking distance to town, quiet, on water), all the conveniences of home (washer and dryer is great to have), owners and caretakers are pleasant and easy to deal with. Thank you!

We stayed at the Jolly Moose very recently for four nights. During our tour of the northern peninsula we had stayed in nice hotels but were grateful to have the space, cooking/laundry facilities and dvd collection at our disposal. Its a great location to stay and see the park. Tom and Edna were very accommodating and we didn't want for anything. The residence was perfect for our family of four. Other than the Dinner Theatre, we ate all of our meals at the house overlooking the water, including our own catches, the local Fish Market and take-out from Earles and Jackies restaurants. The Cow Head Dinner Theatre and numerous hiking and fishing opportunities are a must. One tip..if going to the Ocean View to see the local music, please go early and make appropriate inquiries, we couldn't get in at 8:30 at night as it was already full. Thanks Marcel for making our dream trip to Newfoundland so memorable.

My friend and I stayed at the Jolly Moose for a week and couldn't have been happier. First of all, Rocky Harbour couldn't be a more convenient base for all of one's Gros Morne forays. And the house itself is comfortable, with a lovely porch looking out over the bay. The perfect place to catch gorgeous sunsets. The owner is quick to respond to any questions. Word of advice: Although we loved our visit and saw quite a lot, we went a little too early in the season. The famed boat trip in the fjord was not yet operating and a few of the hikes were still impassable due to snow. So I'd suggest early June through September (a local told me that September is an ideal time to visit; it's post tourist season but everything is still accessible).

Beautiful home , beautiful view , amazing people ...could not have loved it more .
Had a wonderful time at the Jolly Moose in Rocky Harbour . Stayed 4 nights and could have stayed forever . Overly comfortable accommodations ....all the amenities you would ever need and amazing view and beach . Close to everything ....yet quiet and private . Loved to sit on the back porch looking out over the water and dream . Lots to do in Rocky Harbour . Took both boat tours ...one into the fjords and then the Bonne Bay . Both were fabulous . Took in a Kitchen Party at the local hotel which was great fun and lots of laughs . Went to the Dinner Theatre by shuttle to see the SS Ethie . Loved it and the best cod dinner anywhere .All were highlights of our trip and the Jolly Moose was the best of accommodations . Recommend it highly for anyone and everyone .

ideal house for families, anyone wanting a house while visiting Gros Morne
The house backs up to the harbour, has it's own dock that's perfect for fishing. Waterfront was wonderful for my children to catch crabs, fish, look for shells, etc. House has all the amenities, made cooking easy. Very comfortable, great dvd and book collection. Best place to stay if you're looking for more than a cabin or motel in Gros Morne!

Excellent Accommodations..Already Missing Our Home Away From Home
Already Missing Our Home Away From Home..Excellent Accommodations ..The House is beautiful, spacious, very clean and well furnished. The Beds are extremely comfortable. The Kitchen is well stocked with kitchen supplies, dishes, silverware and pots and pans. Excellent touches included : Satellite TV, Computer, DVD Player with lots of movies, Dishwasher, Washer and Dryer ,Jacuzzi /Shower in Main bathroom, with ½ bath off Master bedroom. The view of Rocky Harbour and the ocean from the deck is amazing. We loved having our own private beach to walk on and explore.
Tom and Edna who care for the house for Marcel and Ruth were very, very friendly and helpful. Tom met us at the entrance to Rocky Harbour to escort us to the House. They left us their phone number in case we needed anything during our stay.
Marcel and Ruth, the owners of this Rental Property are exceptional. They are available anytime via email or telephone.
We would highly recommend this house if you are visiting Rocky Harbour . It is much more private than a cottage or hotel room. We do not think you will find a nicer place to stay in Rocky Harbour.
We Will definitely stay here again..Thank you Marcel and Ruth for the opportunity to stay at your House..

Rocky Habour Home
Our family of four stayed here for 4 days and thoroughly enjoyed our time in this lovely home and in Rocky Harbour. The home was very well maintained, well laid out and equipped and setting was lovely looking over the bay.
The home is easily accessible to many of the attractions within the park. We loved our hike up Gros Morne as well as other the hikes we did, the Bonne Bay Marine Station, Discovery Centre, boat tour on Western Brook Pond and be sure to take a play in at Cow Head! The local restaurants were super and the store where you can purchase freshly caught fish wonderful. The owners were accommodating and easy to work with and we would highly recommend this home.We would certainly return again.

Best Accommodations in Rocky Harbour
During our stay, the last two weeks of September 2010, at the Jolly Moose, we watched our friend’s jaws drop when they came over. In awe they exclaimed, “How did you find this place?”
The house is beautifully arranged with gleaming appliances. At every meal, you will enjoy looking at the harbor through the large bay window. Your day’s entertainment doesn’t stop when the site seeing ends as the Jolly Moose is equipped with all your home entertainment needs: dvd player, sound system, bike, beach toys and a variety of books and games. You will not find any accommodations in Rocky Harbour that compare with the Jolly Moose!

Staying at The Jolly Moos...
Staying at The Jolly Moose is not like staying in a
rental. It feels like good friends (with great taste)
have let you have their house while they're off on
cruise. The house is wonderfully decorated and
equipped down to the smallest details. We were
able to cook most of our meals at home and the
only thing we couldn't find was a garlic press.
(Anyway, the owners had thoughtfully provided
garlic powder along with other herbs and cooking
basics.) We had brought our own laptop and the
highspeed wireless internet worked flawlessly; we
also used the computer provided by the owners so
we were able to work side-by-side at sending
emails and working on our digital photographs
while gazing out at the harbour. On a stormy night,
we were able to settle in with the satellite tv and
excellent DVDs provided. While the house is on the
main street of busy Rocky Harbour, we found it
surprisingly quiet and the location really is ideal for
seeing Gros Morne. Our only complaint is that we
had to leave.

My husband and I spent a gorgeous week at the Jolly Moose in July 2009. It is by far the best accommodation in the Gros Morne area, and we are unbelievably glad that we chose it. The house is wonderful and the setting could not be better. We sat on the picnic table and watched the arctic terns dive for their breakfast. It was great.

We stayed at this home for 4 days in August, 2008. We were extremely happy with this accommodation - I can not think of a better place to stay in Gros Morne! It is situated centrally in Gros Morne, so it is easy to visit any part of the park. It is right on the harbour - we watched the tide going in and out and had the sound of the lapping waves from our bedrooms. It is a modern house, looks to be about 3 years old, extremely clean and spacious. It is very nicely decorated. Beautiful new appliances, including washer and dryer, and even a computer to use to keep up on e-mails, and do any trip research. I highly recommend this home - if you would like to ask any questions, please feel free to contact me.
