For being local & was able to have stayed at this beautiful place was AMAZING! The view is breathtaking. Daniel was such a cool person & we didn’t even notice he was there😊 My family will be back for sure next time.

Great stay. Everything we needed for a family of 6 was there, including water boards and coolers for the beach. Derrick was very helpful. The views of the valley and the ocean were unbelievable. Ice maker did not work, but we bought ice to get us through. I feel the directions to get to the house could be clearer.

The two words that describe this property best are Beautiful and Relaxing. The view is spectacular and is as described and shown, but even better in person. There is lots of indoor and outdoor space with comfortable furnishings. The outdoor shower is amazing, wish I could have brought it home with me. Definitely would stay here again.
4.9
Absolutely stunning views, Lots of amazing flowering plants all over the property. Derek was also really helpful answering questions and explaining things which was really appreciated.

This is what Hawaii used to be. It is dirt roads, jungle, beaches, local culture, food and small Hawaiian towns. I can't say enough about the property managers Derrick and Cemile who are two of the kindest, down to earth people I have had the pleasure of spending time with. If you are looking more for a resort vibe: pools, beach, room service etc then I would not recommend but if you are looking to get a bit off the grid and away from the madness of modern life this is truly a unique and special place.

The place and experience were fantastic. I can't emphasize enough the beauty and serenity of the place. Just amazing.

We had a great time staying here. Beautiful view, well stocked place with very nice hosts. The road heading up to the place is super narrow, pretty steep, and feels like you’re off-roading. We thought it was pretty fun and added to the experience :)

What a beautiful location--peaceful, astounding views, comfortable and well-stocked house. The property managers were delightful and incredibly helpful. We found everything we needed in the kitchen, which is not always true for a rental! The outdoor shower was divine. It was really helpful to have the beach equipment available as well. The one thing I would request is an update to the living room furniture (run down and not as comfortable as it could be) and a better mattress in the primary suite (very soft, which some people might like). These things would make this a perfect review. We will definitely return! Many many thanks to Derrick and Cemile.

Impossible to describe the views and the surroundings at this unique home. Plenty of room, full kitchen, amazing outdoor shower, beautiful well appointed home. And - you sleep in a rainforest with this unbelievable view and sounds and stars at night that are just unmatched -- and still an hour from Big Island beaches. Honokaa is a great little town 15 min away. Property managers are fantastic. Once in a lifetime kind of stay.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We wanted something off the grid with ocean views and this completely filled the bill. We were able to enjoy the shops and nearby businesses yet have time away for just family time.

Second time. Can’t beat the view!

Waipio Valley is my favorite place on the Big Island to stay and this house, which its magnificent view, was the perfect place for our family vacation

We had an amazing time, the view is breathtaking and the home is spacious, clean and comfortable. The perfect getaway place to stay.

Property was terrific and the on site care givers were both very friendly and helpful with any questions we had

We arrived at night, so it was quite scary to drive into the unknown in darkness with all the ‘jungle’ noises and rough terrain. But upon first light, we woke up in paradise. I cried at the magnificence of our view from the lanai. Pictures cannot describe its beauty. We went with the expectation of seeing the Big Island as locals, not tourists. This Waipio Valley home gave us exactly that experience. The home was spacious & comfortable. Clean with all the commodities of home. Considering that it’s right in the middle of so much vegetation, there were no insects or pests in the house. Only the sounds of the night came through the windows. It does offer a portable air-con unit in the living room & plenty of fans for every room. We learned that central air is not necessary in this part of Hawaii since the weather is perfectly cool at night to sleep comfortably. The outdoor shower is a dream. Waipio Valley is not accessible anymore to tourists, but the lookout offers another spectacular view. Once you understand why the Valley is off limits, you are filled with a sense of profound respect for the way of life. It is an hour away from Kona & Hilo, but if you want a quiet, relaxing getaway with small, nearby towns to shop & eat at, then this is the place. The Property Managers, Derrick & Cemile, are wonderful people who made our stay so welcoming & accommodating. We wish we could keep this place our secret. If you visit, please respect & take care of this magnificent paradise.

We truly enjoyed our weeklong stay at this house. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. The view was incredible, and the house was clean and well stocked. We all especially enjoyed the outdoor shower which has the same incredible view. :)
We would stay here again for sure.

Camille (Jamille) provided us with variety of fruit that we cannot buy on mainland USA. Also, she is friendly and helping. The views are not from earth. Plenty towels and supplies.
The entry way is dirt road, only one lane and uphill in the valley. Requires good tires and powerful engine if carrying many people. Drive slow to be safe. The house is old; has no AC but fans are sufficient as the house is on hilltop and weather is cooler.
There is a fruit stand very nearby that sells fruit that were made for angels.

What this house lacks in luxury it makes up for ten fold with the view! The home itself reminds me of a somewhat rustic cabin in the woods, only it’s a house in Hawaii on the most beautiful cliffside. The drive in is a bit intimidating but we had no issues getting to the house in our rented mini van. The house isn’t fancy but it’s charming, clean, & has everything you’ll need. The kitchen is fully stocked, plenty of towels & supplies. There’s a nice sitting area on the deck and a grill downstairs overlooking the amazing view. We enjoyed cooking at home every night during our stay. There’s only a tub in the master bathroom but the outdoor shower is quite the treat. Cemile was an absolutely lovely host and gave us some great local places to check out. Our only disappointment was not being allowed down in the valley. It would have been so nice to walk to the black sand beach or just go for a walk in the morning but the valley is closed to all non-Big Island residents. We ended up booking a tour that drove us to the valley floor & it was worth every penny! It’s beautiful down there! The only thing we would do differently if visiting again is book more time here, slow down, and enjoy the view. It's something special!

Great location with beautiful views. It may have been a misunderstanding on my part, but I was not aware that we were renting a shared house. Thankfully the host that lived downstairs was super kind and helpful when we had questions on where to find things. There were ample fans to cool you off, a very spacious kitchen, beds and pillows were very comfortable. It was a very relaxing, quiet area. There was no cell phone service with our Verizon but the house-wifi saved us! One thing that stuck out to me was a Britta water pitcher so you can just fill your reusable water bottles with filtered water vs buying bottles so that was a very nice touch. The yard is gorgeous with lots of tropical plants to look at.

Our stay was so phenomenal that I don’t know how to keep it short. The view is amazing, you can’t believe it is your view for your stay.
The house was spotless, everything we needed was here.
The beds were comfy, you can sleep with the patio doors open all night and listen to nature.
The host was over the top wonderful! She went out of her way to make our stay perfect. She knows all she helped us with and we thank her for making our trip fantastic.
We would give her 10 stars if possible! Aloha for the wonderful week!

The location of the property simply is amazing. Visiting the big island? You have to stay in the area to truly appreciate the gift the culture. The property itself immerses you into the free flowing natural environment. It is not a resort but even better gives you the real Hawaii! Staying with my daughter (4 years old), nephew (7 years old) and 4 adults we had a REAL adventure. Comfortable and lovely. We would easily stay again.

From the moment we arrived, we knew we had found the perfect place for our getaway. The hosts, Cemille and Derrick, were incredibly welcoming and thoughtful, ensuring our stay was nothing short of amazing.
The property itself is absolutely stunning, with tasteful decor and all the comforts of home. The spacious layout and ample amenities catered to our every need. The fully-equipped kitchen made it easy to prepare meals, while the cozy living area provided the ideal space for quality time with friends and family.
What truly sets this property apart, however, is its location. Nestled in a serene and picturesque setting, we were surrounded by breathtaking views and endless opportunities for outdoor adventures. Whether it was exploring the nearby attractions or simply relaxing on the property's beautiful outdoor spaces, there was something for everyone in our group.
Throughout our stay, the host's attention to detail and commitment to our satisfaction was truly remarkable. From providing a helpful guide to local attractions to promptly addressing any questions or concerns we had, Cemille and Derrick went above and beyond to ensure our experience was unforgettable.
In summary, our stay at Waipio Valley and Ocean View was nothing short of perfection. It was the ultimate combination of luxury, comfort, and convenience, all wrapped up in a beautiful and serene setting. We can't wait to return for another memorable vacation!

First of all, world-class view! Secondly, the hosts are amazing, kind, and very welcoming. Third, the house and property themselves are outstanding and I had to pinch myself everyday to be sure it wasn’t a dream.
Beautifully furnished and comfortable home with an outdoor shower connected to the master suite made every evening perfect.
4.9
Comfortable spacious home with covered lanai that runs the full length of the house. We spent most of our time outside absorbing this unspoiled view that other tourists just fly by in a helicopter. Nothing compares.
4.9
great space for 5 adults. Derrick and Cemille were so gracious and accommodating, and great resources. As mentioned many times, outdoor shower, with spectacular view, was amazing. We all agreed this was the perfect vacation home for us, however it’s 60 mins to the closest beach.

Where do I begin…that VIEW! The view of Waipio Valley takes your breath away from the moment you pull in to the drive. Speaking of pulling in to the drive…we were greeted almost immediately by Derrick and Cemile upon our arrival. They graciously insisted on helping us take our luggage in to the house. Once inside, they had fresh floral arrangements in most every room and a bowl of fresh fruit to share with us. I’m certain both had been picked from their yard.
The weather was not as gracious as it rained most every day, but Derrick was kind to send us texts during our stay to let us know which areas of the island had sunshine anticipated for the day, he was quick to answer any of our texts and around to recommend a good place to eat when we needed it. Cemile made and shared with us her homemade Japanese cheesecake one day. It was delicious!
To say we were comfortable doesn't seems like enough. We felt at HOME. The house is so well stocked, you could almost come with a change of clothes and nothing more. We felt SAFE. We never even locked the doors. We felt RELAXED. We slept better than ever with the sound of the waves crashing down in the valley and the frogs and insects “singing” at night.
To say that we were sad to leave is an understatement. We hope that we can return again. We will highly recommend this VRBO rental to our friends, family and now YOU!
Thank you Derrick and Cemile! 🏝

Kind hosts, stunning view! Would come again.

Started off without power due to extreme weather but restored the next day. Wonderful view from the lanai better than the Waipio lookout. Access to Hilo and Kona, great place to explore the entire island from. The hosts were great and helped make the stay easier with being available and providing information and fruit from the garden. Plenty of room with a large kitchen where we cooked a lot of our meals. Very relaxing and enjoyable.

We had three perfect nights here, and two fabulous mornings. The house was spotlessly clean, windows open for that perfect tropical breeze to freshen the house. We arrived after dark to Derrick welcoming us, surrounded by a chorus of night animals, including chirping frogs! Jungle noises!! So fun! The view in the morning was breathtaking. Coffee and breakfast on the deck with that view was just the respite we needed. The outdoor shower was surreal—the view, two shower heads drenching me in warmth, privacy and openness at the same time. It was just perfect. We didn’t get to use the kitchen too much, but what we did use was adequate. Plenty of mugs (coffee options—Keurig, drip, or pour over), good knives (pineapple!) and cutting boards, pots and pans, etc. There are fans in every room, for which our friends from Texas were grateful—no a/c needed! The host has rain slickers, boogie boards, sand toys, and coolers in the garage for you to use.
The road to the house is for the adventuresome! First you have to go through the community road-block preventing tourists/unauthorized vehicles from going down into Waipi’o Valley. (Chat with them about it! It’s quite the story!) Down a ways, then up a one-lane, paved section to a string of houses on the ridge. It’s narrow, there are some tight corners, uphill drivers get the right of way, and there’s no place to turn around if you go too far! That being said, we did it in a 12-passenger van. It was tight, for sure. But do-able. Plenty of room in the driveway for the van, and plenty of pavement to turn around to head out.
We absolutely loved our time at the Ridge House!
There was unfortunately a freak storm (Dec 2022) from the west that brought with it 45-mph gusts and 10’ waves on the Kona side. I don’t know how strong the gusts were coming through the channel of Kohala Mountains and Mauna Kea, but it was bad enough to knock out power for several days. The road was blocked with downed trees and power wasn’t on for days, so we stayed in hotels in Hilo for our remaining 3 nights. Suddenly our family of 5 was cramped into a 2-queen, 1 bathroom room, no fresh air, not enough places to hang towels and wet swim clothes, suitcases barfed willy-nilly. It was not fun. We missed our Ridge House acutely!!
Because it was a freak storm, leaving the house without power, we were refunded by the host for the nights we couldn’t stay there. We’re very grateful for that! We definitely would choose this home again!!

House is located in quite area and is great to get away and relax. Outside shower was amazing and loved using it everyday! Derrek who manages the Propery and lives downstairs is very nice and helpful. Had a great stay and was so relaxing. The views from the back porch and outside shower are just amazing. On a clear day you can see Maui!

Incredibly beautiful. Secluded. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Local residents were also very friendly and helpful. Just can not describe how beautiful this property is. It's breath taking. We had a wonderful time.

The view cannot be matched. The view from the lanai and coqui frogs singing at night were our favorite. Our hosts were fantastic too and supplied us with fresh fruit. Hope to be back soon!

The property is gorgeous with views of the ocean and valley. It secluded and private. The outdoor shower is heavenly. I recommend trying it at night too. The night sky is crystal clear and loaded with stars.
Our hosts were wonderful friendly folks who we befriended. They gave us fresh fruit and showed my son how to husk a coconut, something he was keenly interested in.
My only gripe is the volume of extra dollars added to the charges. For example, the owner required trip insurance even though I had already purchased trip insurance. Some fees can’t be avoided, like taxes and cleaning fee but her perhaps there is a way to reduce some of the extra fees.

We had a wonderful honeymoon at this property overlooking the Waipi'o Valley. Kitchen had everything we needed for cooking at home. Stocked with all the beach gear we needed; chairs, umbrella, snorkel sets, rollable cooler. And the property managers on site were amazing - we opted to befriend them and did not regret it as they provided many great tips for exploring farmers markets and attractions in the towns nearby. Wonderful stay and experience.

Hard to put this into words. ….Magical…. The property has a unique majestic location of course… pictures do it no justice… but the house is managed by a unique thoughtful host who’s personal touches far surpass any verbo we have seen this far…. I almost want to keep the secret, but it’s far to special to not share.

Amazing Place, Great Hosts
Absolutely loved this place and our hosts. The entire back of the house is windows that open to an amazing view that people drive hours to come see. Great to have coffee and cocktails anytime and see it. The drive to the house is a little tricky the first time you do it, so just be prepared and read the description. It was easy after the first day. Thank you again for a great stay!

Amazing!
This home is truly amazing and completely relaxing. We stayed for 10 days and we will definitely be missing the view! The lanai was perfect, we had coffee in the mornings and beer in the afternoon out there. We saw dolphins and surfers with binoculars. Since the beach is closed below it felt like our own private oasis. Be prepared to stop and talk to the guard or locals because the road is closed to homeowners only and they all know one another. We truly couldn't have asked for a better rental. Derek and Camille are amazingly sweet and helped with anything we asked ❤

I've got to say being on the "wet side" of the big island has its perks.. Its beautiful and the sounds at night are amazing there.. Something you cant experience without going. This VRBO is one of the best I've stayed at.. The views are amazing (the pictures just do not do it justice) if you want a romantic get away or just bring along your family like I did there is alot to do and see in just a short distance, or just stay and soak up the sounds, smells, and views this place has to offer... Well worth the trip here!!
