About this house rental
Sanctuary Vacation Rentals is proud to present "Pacific Grove Retreat"! Sleeps 5
Vintage charm and local history combine in this mid-century home, with ocean views from most windows and the elevated deck, and just 2 blocks away from the beach and a short walk from downtown Pacific Grove. Pacific Grove Retreat is perfect for just one month or for an extended stay and long term renters are welcome. A handsome desk in the third bedroom makes a perfect workspace.
The 3-bedroom, 1-bath home is close to everything and yet has a sense of privacy, surrounded by fencing and landscaping that hides the home from view. Built in 1948, the residence was originally the parsonage for the Lutheran Church of Monterey, and has had only one other owner since.
This home is all one level once inside and please note that there is a furnished, long term rental below your unit with a separate entrance from the other side of the house so your privacy will be assured.
The 1,200-square-foot house is just a 5-minute walk to shops and restaurants in downtown Pacific Grove, or to the beach and the Monterey Bay Recreational Trail. It’s also a 10-minute walk to Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course is just a few minutes away by car, as is the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary and Asilomar State Park.
Downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea is also just a few minutes away by car, offering fine dining, shopping and day spas, and it’s also a 10-minute drive to golfing in Pebble Beach®, or 20 minutes to wine tasting in Carmel Valley.
Two entryways offer convenience for guests, with a front door that enters into the living room, and a stairway to the deck and kitchen from the ground-level garage and driveway. The spacious deck offers a gourmet gas grill, an outdoor table and chairs, and a patio heater that allows you to enjoy the ocean view even on cool days.
Adjacent to the deck is the kitchen, which has original cabinetry enhanced by updated tile countertops and backsplash, newer appliances and a four-burner gas stove, as well as a corner sink with large pull-out faucet. Next to the kitchen is a dining room with seating for six around a mission-style wood table.
The living room features a mix of mid-century and other period furniture around a layered stone wood-burning fireplace, the perfect place for enjoying board games or conversation, or watching the 40-inch HDTV. Large windows let in abundant light and hardwood floors are found throughout. Enhancing the décor are original paintings of the coast and nearby sights. Well-equipped for extended stays!

We had an initial issue with our arrival as the dates got changed from our booking request to the confirmed trip dates, so we accidentally arrived 3 days early! luckily the house was available and we were able to work out the extra nights with the property management company. the location was amazing! 2 blocks from the ocean front trail and could walk for miles, easy in/out and a good grocery store right down the street. the home was bright with lots of windows and natural light. the back deck had amazing views of the ocean and a deck heat lamp for chillier nights. the home itself had a good layout and enough space for us, but it is an older home with a musty smell. my partner has bad allergies so it was rough (we couldn't use the forced air system due to some mold or something in the home). the toilet had a bad leak and was running a lot, even though the property management company sent someone out to fix it. wasn't a big deal overall. as part of the rental we had to pay for a mid-stay cleaning and it didn't seem like the cleaning crew actually cleaned. we could have cleaned better (and did clean regularly while we were there). the vacuum cleaner in the home was not in good condition and when i reported it, the company was able to get a brand new one delivered to the house, which was awesome!the kitchen was well stocked and bedroom was decently comfortable. again, just some musty smells in the closets. overall, it was a good stay!

This property is in a convenient, quiet location. A short walk to the Monterey Aquarium, the Monterey Coastal Trail and good restaurants in Pacific Grove and Monterey.

Mid-century modern home with well-chosen furnishings. Spacious living areas and kitchen with facilities for entertaining. Library, piano, guitar, games, and internet provided activities for rainy days. Private front courtyard, and deck with BBQ. Laundry in basement through garage.
Good provisions for power outages. Good supply of linens, towels, and basic provisions. Only negative: King size mattress needs replacing.

I spent most of two months-- May and June 2022--at 226A Lighthouse, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Walks by the shore, lots of time on the deck (it was still sunny then!!) and a generally delightful stay. One day we lost our power for most of the day, but it wasn't the property's fault-- some wayward driver hit a tree and the entire neighborhood lost power for about 15 hours. Anyway I really enjoyed the house.

The property was absolutely perfect for our specific needs in every way possible. We spent our month in walking distance of a dramatically beautiful part of the California Coast, enjoying revisiting and entertaining old friends and family. The kitchen was incredibly well-equipped, the on-site laundry facilities a definite plus, and the spacious living room and deck areas perfect for entertaining. The third bedroom//office/library was a retreat within a retreat with its little jewel of a piano and interesting collection of books. Everything I needed for entertaining was to be easily found at Andronico's just a few short blocks away along with the Aquarium, Cannery Row, Lovers Point etc. close enough to negate the worries about finding parking and need for a car.
It was a lovely experience!

We felt right at home in the Pacific Retreat. It was within walking distance to the beach trail (2 blocks), food and main street for downtown Pacific Grove. The house had lots of windows to let in the light and a great deck. We had privacy, and a quiet neighborhood. The house was stalked with everything to start our 2 month stay.

We loved the Pacific Grove Retreat. So cozy. Felt like home. The hike and bike trail was a daily outdoor activity. Highly suggest Folktale Winery!

We rented this house for a five-day relaxing get-away to celebrate my husband's 70th birthday. It was everything we had hoped for and then some! The house, itself, is spotlessly clean and very comfortable with attractive furnishings and a well-equipped kitchen. (The Calphalon pans are terrific!) And the location is perfect. I walked our dog daily along the coast, and we walked to our favorite restaurant near Cannery Row. Downtown Pacific Grove is just minutes away. I was somewhat concerned about traffic noise since the house is on Lighthouse Drive, but traffic along that portion of Lighthouse is minimal, and the landscaping and wall along the front yard provide total privacy. We would definitely stay again!
