About this house rental
In the midst of a Southern California's Los Padres National Forest, and only 1 ½ hour drive north from Downtown Los Angeles, rests a private golf, tennis, hiking, mountain community with its small shops and restaurants. Within a short walk from the village center, golf course and club house is our house waiting for your group to get together. It snows typically December - March. Roads are well plowed & cindered but you have to be prepared with chains and/or 4WD vehicle. You may have to use our snow shovels at the house to clear doorways and pathways after a storm. Our side yards have a gentle slope and perfect for kids to sled. We offer 7 bedrooms and a loft. Two of the bedrooms are in a separate guest unit below the main house.
The bunk room sleeps 4, kids' favorite. The house has vaulted ceilings, 3 fireplaces (2 in master bedrooms), 5 bathrooms one with infrared sauna that fits 4 people, (jetted tub off), beautiful large kitchen open to living/dining area, BBQ, huge deck overlooking the mountain view. Bring your family and friends and just enjoy your stay!
The house is non-smoking. You may smoke outside and on the deck.

This worked well for our church to bring students up and worship, eat well and even play some games at the location and Heidi was helpful and nice!

Overall good and very nice location!

Quiet neighborhood. Quick walk to the general store. This home has two refrigerators and it was great for our 4 families. One of the bedrooms has a curtain ilo a door, something to consider adding. We had a good time.

While we really enjoyed our stay and had a great time, There were a few concerns mentioned here for the sake of improvement.
1. The walkway to house entrance is made of concrete with large rocks sticking out a few inches, making it a rough surface creating trip hazard especially when moving stuff in and out. Recommend smoothening up the walkway.
2. Not enough useable shower towels in the bathrooms. There were some towels in the lower cabinets but they were marked: "for emergency use when the floors flood" meaning they were not hygienically clean and useable.
3. Paper towels were missing in the kitchen cabinets and other areas. We had to buy some for out needs.
4. Largest master bedroom was separated from the hallway only by a curtain, not enough privacy. recommend adding a door.
5. Downstairs suite was unknown to us until we contacted the agent and asked about it.

We had an excellent stay at this property. The house has a ton of rooms and beds and was comfortable for our group of 10. It is not super fancy, but was just what we were looking for. Please note there are extra charges for towels and for not cleaning up at the end (ie putting away dishes, cleaning stove), but these are spelled out in the book with info on the coffee table. I would recommend taking Heidi’s advice on keeping food out of your car as our neighbor left their car unlocked and a bear got in and totaled the car. We also saw a bear on property one evening . The club had lots of events and a fun pool to hang out and fishing poles to borrow.

We went to this property for a board retreat for a club I belong to. We were so impressed with how helpful Heidi was with all of us. I hope we get to come back again.

We gathered here for a college roommate reunion with our littles. The owner was kind and highly responsive. Unfortunately the concerns listed in previous reviews were evident in our stay as well. The state of the home including cleanliness and needed repairs made it challenging to find clean and safe spots for little ones to play. Additionally it should be noted there are only 5 private bedrooms. Overall we enjoyed our visit & time together. Knowing this could be a beautiful home, we’re hopeful this feedback improves the cleaning protocols and experience for the next group.

The place is beautiful and great location.

Great place for a large number of people, this was the second time we have used it and would definitely use it again.

A cozy cabin in the mountains with plenty of room for everyone.

It’s a perfect place to hang out with family and friends.
Heidi was very accommodating and helpful before during and after our stay.

I thought this stay was wonderful until about two weeks later. Two weeks after our stay had ended, Heidi texted me saying we caused damage to the plumbing throughout the property, rendering it unusable. This claim (especially coming two weeks later) was outrageous, considering she said she had planned to stay at the house with her friends the same week we checked out.
She said she would hold our deposit until the plumbing was fixed and return the rest. One problem: she hadn't charged us a deposit. I told her there was no deposit taken and received no response. The next day she charged my credit card $1500 without so much as mentioning her plan to do this. I have escalated the issue to VRBO and am requesting a refund.
RENTER BEWARE!

Good for groups
The property is set up for large groups. Lots of beds, lots of extra chairs, lots of picnic table space outside, two refrigerators, plenty of parking. It's also quite family friendly, with toys and other kids-focused items. The pool and the nearby park were great excursions for our group. Heidi was very helpful and easy to work with. Note the space and furnishings are quite lived-in and well-worn. If you are looking for austere arrangement, impecable repair, or high quality housewares, look elsewhere. It's mountain rustic, as many cabins are. Overall, grateful for the experience we had.

Nice house for large group
Our group of 11 enjoyed our stay at Heidi's Retreat. There was more than enough room for all, and the home was well equipped. I recommend!

We had a wonderful stay. Heidi is a great host. Very involved, available, helpful and responsible.

Great location that’s easy to get to especially with young kids. Great house for large families/groups - there’s room for everyone to be together without feeling crowded. Especially appreciated the large, modern kitchen. I’ve already recommended this rental to a friend for his family getaway.

Wonderful place for a family gathering
Very easy to communicate with the host. House was in good condition. Only thing was a little unfortunate to have to pay extra for towels, especially with the amount paid. It was in tiny print, if this is a policy, it should be more obvious. Otherwise, nice location with lots of hikes and beautiful neighborhood.

This home was perfect for our family. We enjoyed staying here.

Staying at Heidi's Pine Mountain home was pleasant. Home was well equiped for our family gathering and everyone was pleased with the bedroom space. General store was just down the street which made for easy last minute trips and accessing some nearby local hikes was great.

Nothing but problems. Read the other reviews with low ratings. Do not be swayed by the positive ones. You'll regret it.
Note: We stayed in July 2021. We knew that the property did not have AC; however, with the highs being in 81-86 degrees and being, the inside the house was a furnace. The air does not circulate in the great room
The fans (portable ones and ceiling) are just not enough when it's warm in this area.
Property is not well maintained and when we informed the owner she did nothing but deflect and blame us for the problems. She has a snappish response to everything we raised.
Broken slider door - we sent her a photo the first morning after we arrived... obviously damaged before we arrived but property owner charged us for the repair!
The refrigerator does not cool properly. The middle panel between the fridge and freezer is hot to the touch. 2 in our party got burned. And we ended up throwing out spoiled food that we had bought from the general store just 2 days before as the items left in the door do not stay cool enough. We told host about refrigerator having a problem and her response was to use the ice trays and to turn off the refrigerator when we leave so it has a chance to reset.
Nails in flooring. Found small nails sticking out of the carpet on the steps in master bedroom leading to the loft and along the transition to the bedroom with the curtain as the door.
Window in one of the bedrooms is loose and can fall out of the frame. Sent host a photo of it and she responded that we shouldn't have touched that window..."there's a sign posted not to open it". Umm... No there's not! And she's charged us to repair the window that we put back as we found it.
Fans... Not even 1 fan per room. Only the 2 box fans are powerful enough to move the air around. The little rotating fans are a joke and they eventually droop downward as they are broken. 1 of them can only be plugged into certain outlets...again a hazard for you when you stay here.
The gate to the stairs from the deck has a messed up latch so you have to attach it just right or it won't latch properly.
The downstairs room is nice and cool but... smells moldy.
The water pressure is lacking in the shower in the bathroom attached to the smaller bedroom at the end of the hall (not the master). Again, we told the host about this and she just said it was a low flow showerhead. I know the difference between poor water pressure and a low flow showerhead...again, poor maintenance

Family get away
This property was fitting for our large family with plenty of nieces and nephews. Open concept between the kitchen, dining, and living area with a fully stocked kitchen with all the appliances you will need. Lots of room for sleeping arrangements, space and beds, and plenty of sheets and blankets. Owner/manager was very responsive. It is a bit warm during the summer but fans are accommodated. Overall great place to stay.

This was such a fun place to stay with all six of our grandchildren, 84 year-old mother, and our kids and their spouses! The variety of rooms provided a fun space for everyone. We were able to do a lot of cooking in the big kitchen and enjoyed the outdoor deck and back play area for the grandkids. Although we happened to stay during a heat wave week there were fans for every room. We enjoyed a hike, the community pool, and especially the evenings at the spacious nearby park...so fun! Heidi was great to communicate with. She answered our questions timely and thoroughly. We left with great memories of being together as a family!

Tons of room. Kids had a great time in the 2-level master. It got pretty warm up on the 2nd level. Another fan could be useful as there is no AC in the house.
Owner was very accessible and shared some good local suggestions. We were disappointed that the pool wasn't open yet, but enjoyed some local hikes and streams instead!
Only thing we didn't love was having to pay for towels. Would stay here again.

We had a great family get away weekend
We didn’t go anywhere but the place felt so homey that we had the best weekend ever. The kids enjoyed the stay as much as the adults did .... will definitely be booking again!!!

An Enjoyable Weekend Away
We led our young adult group from our church on a weekend retreat. The check-in process was easy and Heidi's place was better looking than the VRBO pictures implied. We enjoyed our weekend away, hiking, playing card/board games, making and eating lots of good food, and having good times of discussion around the Bible.
Our only critiques were the two empty propane tanks for the outdoor BBQ. We went to the general store to refill, but they were out of propane. Also, the second master suite's bed appeared to be unwashed, with hairs on the sheets and a slight odor. The downstairs apartment's bed also seemed to have been either untouched for quite awhile or unwashed. Last, the pictures on VRBO showed the bunk room with two full bunks, but that is no longer the case.
However, I'd return here with a large group in a heartbeat since the place really was quiet and peaceful, the large kitchen was great, and the community and weather was perfect. Thanks Heidi!
