About this house rental

We are an affordable, comfortable home located mid block on the popular west end of the island. The living area and dining room (seats 6) are just off the kitchen with a 3 seat breakfast bar. There is a TV and DVD player in the living room, and another TV in one of the bedrooms. The house has 4 bedrooms total, 2 on each side of the house. Each side has one bedroom with a Queen size bed, the other has 2 twins, with a Jack and Jill bathroom between, perfect for 2 young families to share. If you want to be outside you can enjoy coffee on the screened front porch in the morning, and husk corn for dinner or just lounge on the back deck in the afternoon.Your pet will enjoy the view from either porch too. Under the house there is plenty of room for side by side parking, and the kids will enjoy a swing, table and chairs for snacks or games, and concrete pad for their chalk artwork. There's an outdoor shower and hose for rinsing off that sand and sunscreen!

Cleaning fee is included in our rental rates. upon request, linens and bath towels are provided for a nominal fee and we provide a starter kit of paper and plastic supplies - enough paper and plastic supplies to get you through your 1st and 2nd day. Pups between the ages of 1-10 years old are welcome ( max 2), must have all shots. Pet fee is separate and for the entirety of your stay.

Once you cross over the bridge to our small barrier island, leave your work and daily routine behind. Enjoy our wide beach, with it’s south facing gradual slope and gentle waves, bike around the island, or walk west to the Kindred Spirit on the Bird Island Preserve and leave your thoughts in the notebooks found in the mailbox. Check out the island shops, pier and turtle nest talks.

Close to home base, you can enjoy weekly summer concerts in front of the Ingram Planetarium, and visit the shops and restaurants on High Market. On Thursday morning you can visit the Sunset Beach Waterfront Market at the Sunset Beach Park (next to Bill’s Seafood) supporting local producers of homemade and homegrown products. Returning visitors to Sunset will enjoy the Old Bridge Preservation Society,new home of the old pontoon swing bridge since 2010, located almost under the new bridge, near the new public boat ramp.

Off island, Sunset Beach is surrounded by golf courses, pickle ball and tennis courts, as well as fishing and kayaking tours for the entire family.

Nearby Calabash features seafood restaurants along the historic waterfront, other varied restaurants-especially breakfast, and the must see Callahan's Shops.

If you want to stick with your fitness routine, the beach and streets of Sunset Beach are perfect for a run; if you need a group activity, Crossfit OIB and Body Edge are both about 3 miles away.

5 miles up the road check out the Museum of Coastal Carolina and the new Shallotte River Swamp Park, opening June 2015- featuring eco tours and zip lines, something your kids will love!

If you need some city excitement, Myrtle Beach, SC or Wilmington, NC are both close trips for restaurants,entertainment,shopping,cultural and rainy day activities.

My husband and I (along with our small dog) enjoyed our stay. The home is close to the beach and provides good amenities from relaxing on the front screened porch to cooking your favorite meals in the well appointed kitchen. Mary, the host, was responsive, welcoming and accommodating. We will look to stay here again.

Mary,the property owner, is always very friendly and keeps guests apprised of any potential changes to one's stay. Her houskeeper is also very thoughtful and leaves home made cookies and snacks on the counter. I love staying here, and our dog really relaxes in the screened in porch. This is definitely a gem of a rental if you need a pet friendly hone within walking distance to the beach.

The place was clean. The only thing I would suggest is to keep basics in the kitchen especially if someone wants to cook. Cooking oil, some spices, aluminum foil, dishwasher tabs. We had some issues with toilet rolls but Mary was quick enough to send them. We met her as she stays down the road. Overall a good place to stay. Dog friendly and less than 10 minutes to the beach.

Fabulous location, well appointed, clean with all the right amenities. The bedrooms set up with a queen bedroom, 2 twin beds with a bath on each side of the house makes it perfect for 2 small families to share or 1 large one. Sunset Beach is gorgeous, the weather was perfect and the easy walk to the beach is great. Furnishings are dated, but clean and comfortable. I will be back!

We had a great weekend stay at The Doghouse. Rooms were clean and house was comfortable and fully equipped. A sweet note from the host along with fresh baked cookies was a nice welcome. It was a short walk to the beach and convenient to other places to visit.

We really enjoyed this house and our stay was perfect. The house was equipped with everything we needed to cook our meals so we could spend more time on nice family walks and game playing during our December stay. Personally, I appreciate the nice, wide, sturdy, stairs leading to the front door, the laundry room off of the kitchen rather than downstairs, and, the very accommodating owner.

We loved our time at the Doghouse. Many of us hadn’t seen each other since before our little one was born and it was an incredible spot to reconnect and spend quality time together. The house was clean and comfortable with enough space to stretch our legs without overcrowding each other, ideal walking distance to the beach, and close enough to restaurants if we didn’t feel up to cooking. Our kiddo loved finding the plate of fresh baked cookies upon arrival.

Mary has a beautiful, bright clean home. It made us feel right at home with coziness and modern decor. The dog pictures added to the charm. And we appreciated that size didn’t matter when it came to our dogs. Gems like this home are hard to find. We will def rent again when we come to Brunswick county to visit family. A wonderful short walk to the beach in a quiet neighborhood was also enjoyed amongst us all.

We love the Doghouse...close to beach, comfy beds, clean. Feels like home whenever we stay. We have new pups and they loved it too. Mary is so nice to leave chocolate chip cookies every time we visit.

We were 6 adults, 2 kids and two small dogs sharing this house. First off location can’t be beat!! Half block away from the water. The house was perfect for us. Loved the front porch and the outdoor shower is a great feature with a large group. Yes house is dated but was clean and met all our requirements. Mary was great at communication and was a perfect host. It’s a rarity for our entire family to be together and The Dog House allowed us to have a wonderful and very memorable time together. Thank you Mary for that! Hope we can do it again!

We had an amazing time. The location was great and the house was super clean. The communication with the property owner was great and the welcome basket was a nice surprise! The house itself was perfect. There was some wear and tear to some of the cosmetics of the house but that is expected of an older house and it did not have any impacts to our stay. We would definitely stay here again, highly recommended!

Great time at Sunset Beach. Cottage was just as described. Easy Check in/out, Linens/Towels, Stocked Kitchen, Super Clean. Just a short walk to the beach. Located on a quiet street. We enjoyed sitting on the screened porch and rocking in the chairs underneath the cottage. Perfect place to relax. Highly recommend.

The property was great. Mary was very helpful and also provided goodies at check in. This was our first stay at Sunset Beach and won’t be our last. The house was an easy walk to the beach and to the main road to get on the island. We rented bikes at Julie’s Rentals which is also a great coffee shop. We walked to the Trading Post a couple of evenings to get ice cream after dinner. We also visited Bird Island which is a few short blocks from the house. The house was clean and well appointed. We enjoyed the screenedm in porch. It was a great week!

This was a fabulous property! The location was ideally located within walking distance of a really beautiful beach. The floorplan of the house is great for a family or 4 couples or individuals with 2 bedrooms and a bath on each side of the house, and the living/kitchen area in the middle. We loved sitting on the screened in porch, but there is also a nice back deck. The neighborhood is very nice and we felt safe walking to an from the beach even at night. The cottage was very clean, and all of the basic necessities were provided. Mary, the owner/manager was great about communication and very accomodating to our needs. I would definitely stay at this property again!

This was our very first trip to sunset beach and we will without a doubt be going back again next year! We traveled with our 4 kiddos, 2 dogs and 2 grandparents and everyone had plenty of space in this home. The home was lovely and well cleaned when we got there. The kids especially love the cookies and snacks left on the counter and I loved the handwritten note welcoming us! I would highly recommend this house to anyone.

As most anyone reading this will know. Sunset Beach is superduper. What you might not know is what a pleasure it was to be there at Thanksgiving. The house is great, a fresh update to the traditional NC 4-corner bedroom / center living room design. Skylights! A nice welcome pack, really fast communications with our pre-arrival questions, and a handful of chairs & beach toys were available. A tree in the back yard helped mitigate the closeness of back door neighbors, and front & back decks were a pleasure. I found it on account of it being dog friendly and would stay again.
