Saugatuck and Douglas are the embodiment of small town America. These harbor villages turn back the pages of time and enter a simpler life. Throughout its history, artists have been drawn to this area. This heritage continues through strong ties to the Art Institute of Chicago. In summer enjoy the many festivals, art based events and the new Saugatuck Center of the Arts featuring many musicals and plays. Visit in spring for the Waterfront Film Festival, or in the summer for the Chamber Music Festival, professional summer stock theatre, year round jazz concerts or the arts and craft shows. Picnic by the gazebo in Wicks Park overlooking the harbor, or ride a victorian hand-cranked ferry. Rent a canoe, or charter a sailboat. Take a stroll along the boardwalk and explore many galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. If golf is your passion, hit the links at one of several 18-hole championship courses while the kids take lessons at the area's golf school. Don't leave without taking a thrilling dune buggy ride or spending at least one day at beautiful Oval Beach. End your vacation at the corner drug store in downtown Saugatuck where hand-creamed sodas and shakes have been a specialty for 86 years. Or maybe go to Crane's Pie Pantry and pick up a home-made pie or handpick your own fruit and bake it yourself. Fine dining and great shopping are all a walk away.

A vintage cottage with all the amenities you can imagine. Very thoughtfully set up. Within walking distance to the Douglas downtown where you can find lovely eateries, boutique shops and galleries. It's easy to get to Saugatuk, sister town to Douglas, and to Oval Beach on Lake Michigan. Saugatuk also has many boutique shops, restaurants, galleries, parks and beautiful waterway. Both town are very dog friendly, restaurants brought out water bowls for our dog and all the shops had bowls outside their store. The people are the friendliest. Lots of entertainment and events. We enjoyed a musical at the Saugatuk theater. A little piece of heaven with the best temperatures in the country during the hottest part of summer. We would go back again!

We had a great time in Douglas. We go every year and enjoy the Douglas and Saugatuck hospitality. Ben’s home is within walking distance to just about everything. The home has two very large bedrooms upstairs that are quite comfortable. The main floor bedroom is a bit smaller, but also very comfortable. this is a perfect home for a group of friends or a family. The highlight of the house is the screened in porch. I highly recommend this home.

Booked this property for a family vacation and thoroughly enjoyed the quiet and quaint location as well as the functionality of the house and property.
The property provided accommodations for all- from the screened in porch, to the outdoor fire pit/table, to the hot tub, there’s comfortable space for everyone and everything.
Don’t hesitate to book this property if you’re looking for some old world hospitality!

My only concern were the steps... not great for young people or older people. But otherwise, overall good visit.
Also, bed in den was not sleepable.... very uncomfortable.
Owner was very communicative and helpful.

What a week!
My extended family and I wanted to get together to celebrate my Mother’s and nephew’s birthdays. There were 10 of us in total. We have nothing but rave reviews for the host and our location. Originally, we looked at rentals in Saugatuck but decided on the quieter town of Douglas instead. We were so glad we did. Quiet. Quaint. Conveniently located. We did a fun excursion every day. We couldn’t have asked for more!

Lovely 1895 home
The house is located in a quiet neighborhood very convenient to walking downtown. The screened in front porch was a lovely place to enjoy a quiet afternoon with friends. There was a new hot tub, which we didn't use, and a wonderful fire pit with swivel chairs. The location of the downstairs bathroom relative to the bedroom is rather inconvenient since you have to walk through the dining room, sitting room, and front hall to get to the bathroom.

Great Get Away
We had a group of three couples and this house offered everything we were hoping for. In town, comfortable, plenty of space!

Upon arrival at Vintage Splendor I was immediately transported back to the wonderful summers I spent as a child visiting my grandmother at her summer house. Vintage Splendor is a vestige from an era when life was lived at slower pace. When days were spent enjoying an ice cold lemonade on the sun porch or doing puzzles on rainy days. Amidst the beautiful period furnishings, soaring 12-foot ceilings and claw-footed bathtubs, were more modern conveniences, like cable TV with Apple AirPlay, whole house WiFi, a sound system, bookshelves full of wonderful books and a Hot Tub on the secluded back porch. With only a five minute walk to Douglas it was easy to get to some of the area’s best restaurants like Every Day People, Wild Dog Grill and Borrowed Time. Our stay at Vintage Splendor was “Perfect” in every way and we can’t wait to come back for a future visit.
Many Thanks to our gracious host Ben who made it possible for us to have a great vacation!!

Eight women, all related, went on this trip. (Two had to cancel out.). Ages 60’s and 70’s. We really liked the home, especially the large dining room table. We were all able to sit around and visit and play cards and board games.

Our group of 7 had plenty of room in this large home. It was walking distance to many shops, restaurants and the water front. Douglas has the perfect small town vibe and the perfect location for day trips to Cranes Orchard, Holland, Oval Beach, etc. We spent many mornings enjoying coffee and visiting on the screened in front porch. Overall the perfect vacation spot♥️

We left a special chess set by accident and Ben, the host, sent it ASAP. Thank you!!! So glad we stayed in Douglas and could walk everywhere!!

Plenty of room- 2 living rooms and large enclosed porch; 4 bedrooms; 2 full baths and one half. Fully equipped kitchen; beach chairs and toys; high chair for the baby, WiFi; etc. Hot tub on back porch and Pac Man game was fun; owner is very responsive to repair issues; clean; central location in town with nice restaurants within walking distance. We really liked it and give it the highest rating.

It was a comfortable place to vacation. The location in Douglas, MI is very nice. Short walk to Lake Michigan. The community library is next door, and has a great children's section. Boat rentals just a short walk away. Restaurants not far away. The only significant problem is the automatic dishwasher. The door that falls rapidly is not safe, and the dishwasher doesn't clean dishes very well. It was annoying. We enjoyed our one week stay there.

This is a fun place to be.
Our 3 generation family (8 people) spent a week at Ben's large Civil War era home. We enjoyed the large space, eating together in the dining room, playing catch in the yard, relaxing in the hot tub, walking to nearby restaurants and the grocery store/pharmacy. Additional restaurants and stores are within 10 minutes by car (in Saugatuck).
There were many things to do in the immediate area, including swimming at Oval Beach, climbing Mt. Baldhead (302 steps), and riding a dune buggy. Fresh fruit from nearby farms was a delight. We drove to nearby Holland to an indoor arcade when it rained and again to pick blueberries in the sunshine.
Ben was rapidly available by text to answer questions.
All in all, a delightful vacation.

Relaxing fun in a great spot
We really enjoyed our stay here. The three-season room was a fantastic place to relax. The dining room table had enough room for our large party. Plenty of room to unwind and not be in each other's faces at the end of the day. Kids enjoyed the Ms. Pac-Man arcade game. Would rent again.

Wonderful!
This lovely home was a great place for our group of friends. The location of this home was perfect. It was a very nice neighborhood, one block off of the main drag in downtown
Douglas, close to restaurants, lakes, and downtown Saugatuck. The screened in porch was wonderful, we spent a lot of time there. Kitchen was stocked well with everything needed to prepare a meal. The only negative was the inability to open some of the windows.

Great location, awesome house!
We found the rental to be perfect for our getaway in Douglas. Easily accommodated our large group.

Enjoyed our visit
Our family of six adults and three children was very comfortable in this home. There was plenty of seating in the living room for all the adults to sit comfortably. The owner was very responsive to our needs and made sure that the TV channels that we wanted to watch were available. He checked with us on the day of our arrival and also on the day following to see if we had everything we needed. I really appreciated his personal contact, and we have not had that level of service from other VRBO properties. The property is located within walking distance of downtown Douglas, and we enjoyed the convenient location to the shops, grocery store, and bowling alley/restaurant. The kids and adults enjoyed the PacMan game in the laundry room. We invested several quarters in that machine, but it provided a great diversion for a winter day! I wish I could have rated this as 4.5 stars because outside of a few minor updates needed by an older home, it really was a perfect place for our family.
4.7
Spacious and great Location
This property is ideally located in the heart of downtown Douglas and within walking distance to restaurants, galleries and the grocery. It has a lovely screened-in porch and and a huge dining room table. Both are great for having the whole group together. Lots of rooms and interesting artifacts in Vintage Splendor! We highly recommend it.
4.7
quiet street location
We loved this historic home. The owners were very generous with the soap and paper products. It was on a quiet street, yet within walking distance to the lake and downtown Douglas shopping. There is a lot of room in this house and my family of ten fit well. We loved the screened in porch.
4.7
Charming and convenient location to both Douglas and Saugatuck
The owner was very responsive with answering questions regarding local activities before we arrived. He also helped with questions regarding the property itself. We found the home to be lovely. We especially enjoyed the screened in porch and long dining table. We had two families plus my mother staying there. It was very comfortable. The PacMan video game was also very popular. Keep in mind the home was built in 1865, but for us the character of the home overcame any minor inconveniences.
4.7
awesome family vacation house !!
This property is well maintained and has lots of character. It felt roomy and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked for preparing meals. My adult children really enjoyed the hot tub and pac man machine. The location was nice with a nearby grocery store. Oval beach a short drive and of course great shopping in Saugatuck. Overall everything went smooth and highly recommend to those who appreciate an older home.

Great Location and Front Porch But Needs Imrpovements
House is large with lovely front porch to relax on. Location in Douglas is close to restaurants, shops and galleries, as well as grocery store. Home is about a mile from the Douglas Park Beach. Big house, great for two families. Full size washer and dryer very helpful. Little twin pull out bed is definitely better for a smaller person. Home needs some work. Dishwasher door is not loaded on springs and came down on someones foot. Shower rod looks attached, but was not secured with a screw/pin and came down when trying to adjust curtain. Hot water piping extremely hot where you adjust the temperature for downstairs shower. When the house heated up in the afternoons there was an odor of cat pee (cans of cat food had been left on counter). My son started sneezing when sitting on the sofas in the house - thinking cat hair. This could be a problem for someone with a severe allergy. Air conditioning works great downstairs, but not upstairs. Some screens are missing from the upstairs floor which did not help with cooling in the evenings. Kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cookware. Owners were available for questions, however I would have liked the access info to the home prior to getting on the plane there that day to relieve any stress with getting info while in transit. Hot tub and video game machine big hit with the kids. Bring your quarters.

Great Girls getaway retreat!
This was a wonderful place for a girls weekend! The beautiful home had plenty of space and lots of amenities to make it a cozy and relaxing vacation. The short distance to great shopping and dining was perfect!

family reunion
A house with good common spaces for our family reunion. We liked the location as well...good to be able to walk most places. There were plenty of fragile antique furnishings but we managed not to damage any, even with several small children.

Fabulous Family Retreat!
We often visit the Saugatuck/Douglas area for weekends all throughout the seasons. This was the nicest place we have ever stayed! I wanted to move in for good! Our teenager and 8 year old and small dog has plenty of room in the beautifully kept yard, or in the gorgeous restored old home. The porches were right out of an east coast fishing village, and the kitchen and family room were large, high ceilinged and full of charm. Plenty of beds, ample bathrooms-much more space that one usually finds in an older house. The neighborhood is quiet and everything you could want is in walking distance. We could stroll with the dog and kids to charming park and playground overlooking the Kalamazoo River, as well as very cool boutiques and shops. My favorite restaurant in West Michigan-Every Day People is steps away, as is a very interesting museum about life boats and shipwrecks on Lake Michigan. The nicest beaches anywhere on the lake are a 5 minute car drive away, as is downtown Saugatuck, just over the bridge-which is also walking distance if you are feeling fit. The beds were very comfortable, and there is even a Pac Man machine! Wow! what more could you ask for? We will return.

Love the cozy feel in your home, especially love your dining room table. So nice for everyone to have a place to sit and enjoy a breakfast, lunch and dinner. We look forward to coming back! The Szpynda Family!!!!

So Glad We Found It!
We loved our stay in Douglas! This was a perfect place for our 2 and 5 year old. They were able to ride their bikes, go to the library next door, and walk to the playground down the street. The beach is a quick drive. It didn't matter that we were not right by the beach, because there was so much to do right outside the front door! Douglas is the most gorgeous community with great shops and restaurants. We loved our stay and are so glad we discovered this haven so close to Chicago. Barbara was so helpful with all of our plans. You will not be disappointed if you stay here!!
