This home sits right at the ocean’s edge and is a quirky, but delightful, place to enjoy the beach. The indoor pool is surprisingly enjoyable and such a bonus in this large beachfront home.

Loved sitting on the deck and watching the ocean.

The view was amazing! Could use a lot of updating, but overall it was a great experience. Definitely worth it for the view and location. The quirkiness of the house grows on you…

The location and view are spectacular. The beds are fine. However, the property itself is in exceedingly tired shape, the outdoor furniture is funky and very rusty. Windows are held open with toy bits and pieces of wood, the Bar-b-q is broken and very greasy, and to top it off there were mouse droppings in the spare blanket drawer - yuck! Towels are thin and kitchen is sparsely stocked.
But if you can put up with that, the property does have a groovy indoor pool and plenty of space for a large group.
The owners did send someone right away to fix broken screens and a broken tap and broken shower head.

Great location
Older house that needs lots of work
Fairly clean
I would go back but too overpriced for what I would get

This could be a fun, quirky, charming house if it were given a deep clean and kept well maintained. Many windows and the upstairs slider wouldn't open so we couldn't capture a breeze, and the house stayed warm, humid and stuffy. Ceiling fans would help. The pool was great. View was spectacular. We had a great family vacation.

Unsafe, Neglected, Filthy Property
We knowingly signed up for a rustic property with a great view. What we got was an unsafe, neglected, filthy, smelly rustic property. For example:
Safety & Security – most doors do not lock as they are broken or windows and doors don’t closer properly. Electric plugs in the kitchen, upstairs bedroom do not work at all and some come out of the wall when you unplug something.
Entire House
Smell - Smells like a bath house in August including chlorine and mold growth somewhere we couldn’t find.
Pool is in the main part of the house next to the kitchen – no barrier so the moisture and chlorine smell penetrates the entire house
Rust - Every metal fixture in the home is rusted (heating system intakes and vents, lamps, recessed lighting fixtures, door knobs, towel racks, shower curtains. Wood window shade hardware. Bathroom lighting fixtures
Doors – when it rains it gets through the slider on the second floor and onto the carpet (maybe the mold source?)
Lighting – Missing, burnt out and very dim wrong type of bulbs in almost every fixture. For example there were the twirly bulbs in overhead can fixtures which threw no light. Owner purchased the right bulbs and I installed.
Dirty light switches, door handles everywhere that gets touched is dirty
Slider Tracks and Window sills - Heavy dirt and rust film in the slider tracks, window sills. Tracks were cleaned by handyman
Windows – Dirty at first which the

The house has a great view. However, once we checked in I was in communication with I believe the homeowner and property manager. House is very worn, furniture looks as if it was from grage sales, all out side furniture was rusted/broken, security issues, and the house had a terrible smell. We never used the pool due to debris/sand in the pool. I took multiple pictures and videos throughout the house and shared with the owner.

Our worst ever rental experience in spite of the wonderful view from the deck Musty, moldy oder was sickening. Very poorly cleaned. Limited amenities. Light bulbs burned out and hard to replace. We considered going home early and wound up maximizing our time away. With dog along we chose to eat meals in our car and retuned only to sleep.

This was a very unique property with an indoor pool. The house is on the bluff on the ocean so sunsets were great. The rooms were very spacious.

The house has good bones but horribly maintained. we enjoyed the pool. Views were stunning.

This property is all about the terrace and the view. You won’t want to be anywhere else.
House is very well equipped with towels. Beds are very comfortable. Kitchen is reasonably equipped. Enclosed garden is a great feature for families with younger kids. Outdoor shower is clutch.

We had a great experience at this property. Management responded quickly when we had a problem. Some reviews said that it is a bit dated in the decor. It is, but we actually found that a plus! With a toddler with us, there was no panic that he would hurt something or ruin something. We were able to sit back and relax and enjoy our vacation.

This was in a great location with amazing views. The property manger was excellent, it was easy to check in and very reactive to questions. We had an issue with the Pool heater and they fixed it very quickly. We had a great time, the place was very nice and unique with the indoor pool which we did use. The house does need some work and is not in pristine condition but we felt that it was an overall great experience and the location and views overcome the condition of the home. The house is clean and put together. They also provide beach chairs and equipment which is fantastic. Overall great experience and we will visit again in the future and recommend this house to anybody that loves the ocean views and being walking distance to a beach.

Perfect place to stay for a quick weekend getaway! Easy to book, easy to locate. Fun indoor lap pool was a hit, and patio on the cliffside was amazing every night! Thanks again!

We loved our stay at this place. It was very funky and unusual, with a pool in the front room! We used it a lot and really enjoyed it. The view is amazing. It’s a great place for a large group to stay.
The negatives are that the electrician who did the work here in the past should have been fired. And the twin beds in the room next to the master bedroom could use replacing or at the very least pads to make them more comfortable. We didn’t end up using the room for this reason.
Overall, while this place is definitely not for everyone, our family of swimmers loved this place. We will book it again.

The location of this property was absolutely amazing. The view from the upstairs master, especially during sunset, made me want to stay forever. This neighborhood lends itself to war to restaurants, stores, beaches etc. The hosts were very accommodating. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Eclectic retro resort home with awesome bluff side vistas from nice deck. Pool adjacent to kitchen entertaining for kids! Easy access to Moonlight Beach. If you like funky, you'll LOVE this place. Fits the funky personality of Encinitas nicely. You will think you've been teleported back to the 1950s! (Could use some TLC touch-ups/repairs.)

We celebrated my mother’s 74th birthday at this wonderful home. The location is perfect. Just a few blocks to the downtown restaurants. The house has a comforting and healing quality. We sat on the deck and listened to the waves for hours. And it was spacious enough that we had privacy from one another when we wanted it. Love this special place!

This is a large, older home, meticulously clean with a fantastic view of the Pacific; and walking distance to many shops and restaurants.
The beds are comfortable with nice bedding, and offer privacy to 8 people (sleeps 10 with two beds in one of the rooms). The kitchen is well-equipped, but bring your own spices and condiments as well as food, of course. The pool is well maintained and clean; a fun extra!
Being an older home, you can expect to see minor maintenance issues. The owner is aware of this, and is in the process of updating.... This, in no way, interferes with a great location to visit for a family vacation. Dogs are welcome and have a fenced in area on the property, and many parks within walking distance to enjoy.
We highly recommend this home in a friendly neighborhood.

Read Richard E’s review. It was spot on for our experience with this property. We stayed the weekend after he did and his review was posted after we booked. We would have picked another property for our stay. I hope the owner will invest some money into this place.

This is probably the right place for a big group just looking for a crash pad with a view, not so much for anyone expecting anything comfortable for a grand a night...
The Good: location is great, views from the decks were fantastic, being able to start / end days in the indoor pool was great, hosts were accommodating
The Bad: Everything in the house was musty, moist, and smelled of mildew (probably because of recent rains + indoor pool). The place hasn't been updated since the 80s, and is kind of falling apart (we took to calling it the Usher House) -- random cracks ran through the floors, screens were missing, doors were broken / wouldn't slide, blinds wouldn't draw, broken deck planks and deck chairs, half the outdoor lights didn't work, etc. They say the pool is cleaned regularly but was honestly a bit gross when we got there (grit on floor, small clumps of hair floating, slick/greasy-feeling water...). Plus, warning, I got shocked by bare wires in the pool heater's control box.
The Weird: the house is just bizarre -- the indoor pool is literally in the living room and kitchen; half the house is tiled and half is carpeted (with a mix of both in the bathroom); there's 3-4x as many light switches as you'd expect in every room-- some are labelled, fewer do what the labels say... Plus, lots of friendly wildlife in the area -- two stray cats joined us on the upstairs balcony one night (they were sweet), a family of racoons ran by me on the deck one morning, and we did see at least one rat...

Easy access to beach. Owner and manager always responded right away to questions. I will stay here again for sure.

We enjoyed our stay, place is just as listed. Welcome gifts were great. Could use a few updates (screen door going out to deck fell off) just left it off during our stay, indoor pool a plus.

The house is right by the ocean and had some nice decks to enjoy the outdoors. We enjoyed the pool every day. The beds were comfortable. The house could stand to be updated but that doesn't take away from your stay there. It is a bit of a walk to get to the beach. There is garage parking which is very nice. We enjoyed Encinitas and would definitely think about staying here again.

The booking process was easy. The home was a little tired and needs some minor fixes. Overall the pool inside was a plus our kids loved it. View is worth it. It is peaceful and a easy walk to a not to crowded beach. The hosts even bought us a wagon to tote our gear to the beach. Our family enjoyed it and plan to return.

The view is fantastic and the decks are private and spacious. The bedrooms are large and the heated indoor pool was a hit for daily laps. Things that could be better were the generally dim lighting, and some general aged hardware. Like the screen doors and cabinet doors. Overall loved our stay, walked to the beach and great restaurants in less than 10min.

The view is amazing although I wish the house was in better shape. Very close to beach access and downtown area. All within a quick 5 minute walk. Overall a nice vacation and very enjoyable

Funky older beach house in a perfect location, nothing can beat the calming sounds and views of the ocean from every room. Walkable to restaurants. Our family had a great time and already miss it

The location of this house is amazing. It is just 3 blocks from the main shopping/restaurant strip in Encinitas but the house is on a quite street on a bluff directly overlooking the ocean. The views are amazing and the closeness to restaurants/coffee and the entrance to the beach are unbeatable. The house itself is quirky and needs some work. The fact that the swimming pool is part of the same room as the kitchen makes it easy to observe anyone who is swimming, but does make the entire first floor rather humid and the food in the kitchen takes on a vague flavor or chlorine. The humidity in the house has also rusted many of the light fixtures, window and door frames and the house feels run down for the price. The sliding screens for the doors onto the patio kept falling off their tracks and we had to have them repaired while we were there for fear they would fall on one of us. The one light in the living room did not work, and the one table lamp in the downstairs bedroom did not work either. The sliding glass doors off of the amazing upstairs bedroom do not slide easily. The property manager and the owner were very responsive when we asked for help with the sliding screens and had someone come the next day to fix them. We were grateful to find a place where we could bring our dog, but the one time we left her she barked and the neighbors complained. We had a great vacation here, but prepare yourself for quirk.

We had a great time in this house. The location is ideal and the view from the house can’t be beat! It’s a well loved funky beach house....not sparkly new and fancy but perfect for a beach vacation!

We knew going into it that this place was dated and it was. But that's exactly what we were looking for with a big dog and a young child -- nothing brand new/expensive to worry about breaking.
The view was just incredible, the neighborhood wonderful, and the house had everything we needed. We slept with all the doors and windows open, and the smells and sounds were amazing
My only complaint would have to be the 10 a.m. checkout. I understand the need to clean for the next family during Covid, but rushing out the door at the nightly rate we paid wasn't the best way to end the trip. Still, we'd come back for that view.

It's got this great Location w great views. Quite spacious and decent floorplan. But the interior is dated and could use some renovation.

The Ups -
- Nothing beats that cliff-side ocean view, which you can enjoy from the large wrap around patio off the living room, the patio off the upstairs master, and you can even watch the ocean from the master shower and vanity in privacy. We spent 90% of our waking hours on the patio or down at the beach - the beach entrance is about 2 blocks away.
- Everything you need is in walking distance, and while we didn't visit due to Covid and all, there are SO many cute restaurants and shops just down the street.
- The house is stocked with everything you need for the beach, 10+ chairs, boogie boards, surf board, sand toys, towels, etc. W/D on site. Great BBQ.
- Have to admit, we've never seen a house with this layout, including the pool in the living / kitchen area! We were all so curious as how the architecture came to be, and it was a memorable property for sure.
- The owner and the property managers were kind, responsive, and communicative.
The Trade-offs
- Others have shared that the interior is a bit outdated. Just set your expectations. We were glad to be able to have this location for a holiday weekend in our budget. And if you have concerns, just let the sounds of crashing waves wash it all away.
