About this cabin rental
The Palisade Log Cabin is a lake front, wooded private retreat on the north shore of Lake Superior. It is located just off Highway 61, one mile northeast of Silver Bay. It is about a half mile through heavily wooded lots to the 45-year-old secluded and authentic log cabin. The cabin sits on seven acres of private land, and has more than 460 feet of high rugged Lake Superior shoreline.
There are incredible views to the north of the Palisade Head Cliffs. These cliffs reach 350 feet high and are a favorite of rock climbers. You can hear the waves of the lake crashing against the ledge rock cliffs just 70 feet from the cabin. The sunrises over the lake are spectacular; in the evening you might be able to view the northern lights.
We installed a geothermal heating/cooling system in October 2012 which should keep the cabin warm and cozy all winter long, and cool in the summer. Enjoy the peace and solitude of the whispering pines and birch while watching a bald eagle flying above. You can read a book or play cards/games near the cabin’s warm wood stove. Outside you can toast marshmallows at the fire pit or play horseshoes. Search for Thomsonites, agates, crystals, cobblestones, or driftwood at the nearby Black beach, go berry picking, or view colorful spring wild flowers and brilliant fall foliage.
There are many things to do and explore in the area:
-Drive the Highway 61/Superior National Forest Scenic Byway and visit the beautiful Minnesota state parks nearby (see map).
-Hike on The Superior Hiking Trail that runs from Two Harbors to the Canadian border. -Ride your bike on the Gitche Gami Bike Trail that runs along Highway 61.
-Snowmobile on the North Shore State Snowmobiling Trail or drive an ATV on designated ATV trails from Duluth to Grand Portage.
-Try cross-country skiing on the North Shore Mountain Cross Country Ski Trail.
-Visit Lutsen Mountains ski resort 36 miles from the cabin.
In the summer you can go to Black Beach less then a mile away, and nearby beautiful sandy beaches which are part of Tettegouche State Park or hike to the beautiful High Falls. Take a charter boat tour or fishing trip out of the Silver Bay Marina, that is 3.5 miles to the southwest. If you're adventurous, you can go kayaking in the cove. Golfing is available at Silver Bay golf course, and there is live music in Silver Bay July 14- September 1.
Watch for giant iron ore carriers on Lake Superior; they depart from Silver Bay and head east to Cleveland. Look for wildlife around the cabin and you may see eagle, deer, moose, bear, fox, wolf, and beaver. If you don’t feel like cooking, dine at a variety of fine nearby restaurants (Northwoods Cafe in Silver Bay, Lemon Wolf in Beaver Bay, Cove Point Lodge in Beaver Bay; Rustic Inn near Two Harbors) or check out the new Timber Coffee Company near downtown Silver Bay.
There is also a local grocery store, Zups, located just five minutes for the cabin for last minute supplies.

Exceptional log home with incredible views. Clean and comfortable. We loved the cabin, gazebo, and sauna. The cabin is close to Black Beach, hiking trails, parks etc..

Wonderful. Great location for peace and solitude with gorgeous sunrises. Close to great hiking trails and some of the offerings of the north shore. We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness, neatness and completeness of the cabin. While we did not utilize the sauna or the gazebo, both were impressive. The owners care about this place and it shows!

My wife and I had a great week at the Palisades cabin. We enjoyed the decks, the views, the awesome gazebo, and the wood-fired sauna. The cabin has everything you need, so no worries on that front. The location is great - we walked every morning on different state park trails a short drive from the cabin. Definitely 5 stars.

For years I have taken my 3 best friends (now all in our 70s) for a few days stay in a cabin on Lake Superior. This log cabin is the absolute best. The cabin itself is beautifully build with very large logs and well maintained throughout. The setting is awesome with stunning views of the lake and the palisades. Top class!

Extremely well kept!

3rd or 4th time here. Love the log cabin, love the view, love the wood stove in the cabin - love both decks, the sauna, the Gazebo, the very functional kitchen, Just love sitting on the deck and watching the morning sunrise. Enjoy being in the Gazebo watching a storm rolling in (loved the umbrella to get us to the Gazebo). It’s so private outside, and comfy inside. We love that it is close to so many parks and trails. The communication from the owners is responsive and caring. We will go back again!!!

We have stayed at this cabin several times and have always been pleased.Cozy, clean cabin with everything you need. The view of Lake Superior and the sun rises are gorgeous! This year the mosquitos were so bad we could hardly step out the door!

The cabin (a REAL LOG CABIN) is wonderful. Furniture is comfortable and appropriate. Kitchen well equipped, beds new, everything is as it should be. The view of Lake Superior is spectacular. Everything is just as shown in the photos. We will definitely visit again.

This was a return visit for us. 2 adults and a dog. Love the charming log cabin and location. Especially grateful we can bring our dog. Cabin is small but perfect in every way. Excellent use of space. Love the 2 decks and that there was a tie out available for our dog friend. The sunrises are so magical over the lake. We hope to return again.

What a wonderful cozy cabin! Thank you Sarah for sharing it! Our family enjoyed the indoor woodstove and sauna! The views day and night were amazing. The cabin has all the necessities for enjoying home cooked meals. We appreciated the detailed instructions on the use of wood stove and sauna. Sarah and her husband pay attention to detail and obviously love this cabin! We enjoyed hikes in Tettegouche and Gooseberry falls state parks. The cabin is secluded and peaceful. The perfect family get away!

The cabin was perfect. Perfect size for me and my partner; the couch was comfy; the kitchen was fully stocked and made it easy for us to cook almost all our meals. The property is beautiful. The location allows easy access to nearby state parks, cafes, and grocery stores. I only wish we were there in the summer to take advantage of having the windows open and listening to the lake.

Our 4th winter visit to the cabin, clean and cozy as always! With no snow we were able to explore more of the property and we still enjoyed the nearby hiking. We always bring our own drinking water and enjoy a mix of meals out and cooking at home. Thanks again - looking forward to our next visit already!

We loved everything about this property and cabin! In addition to incredible views and peaceful privacy, the cabin was well-equipped for cooking, cozy fires, and relaxation. It was super clean, uncluttered, and comfortable, and very close to great places to explore including Palisade Head, Tettegouche State Park, and Black Beach.
The moonrises and sunrises over Superior were spectacular, too.
We will definitely return to this property again!

At this point I don’t even know how many times we have stayed at Palisade Cabin. Our first stay was in the fall of 2007. The cabin has had periodic upgrades but we arrived this time to find lovely improvements in the kitchen and bath, as well as a brand new wood-fired sauna! We all enjoyed it. The new gazebo will be lovely when the weather is a bit warmer, and the fire pit has also been improved. A great visit to the North Shore, as always. Thanks again!

We can only amplify the accolades from the other guests who have stayed and reviewed this cabin before us. We have made many trips to Minnesota's Lake Superior North Shore over the past 25 years from Duluth to Grand Marais and this was our favorite. My wife and I were instantly comfortable with the cabin, location and privacy. We made good use of the sauna and the wood stove in the cabin. The hosts provided good clear instructions for the use of both. We were lucky enough to experience some spectacular winds coming off the lake and the resulting crashing waves - Wow! The cabin was a great location to observe in complete comfort.

We love visiting Sarah and Steve's log cabin! We've been there twice in the fall. The home is cozy and sweet. It's obvious the owners love the place. The property is breathtaking. You can't even see the neighbors - just gorgeous Lake Superior. The wood fired sauna is a wonderful addition. The sound coming from the fire is very relaxing. We're grateful top have the opportunity to stay there!

I loved Palisade Cabin!
The Lake was moody and gorgeous, the cabin clean, cozy, warm, inviting, with modern comforts and the perfect place to camp out. Love the adirondacks situated on the cliff; only wish I had more time to sit on them!
Would love to come back one day!

My wife and I had been planning to travel to the North shore of Lake Superior for some time. This lakefront cabin is simply a perfect spot and base camp to see the numerous sites we had planned. The property itself is immaculate, a true log cabin with massive logs facing the Lake, with fantastic sunrises each morning. The owner provides a substantial amount of wood for the interior wood stove which we used each evening. I had a few occasions to contact the owner, Sarah, by phone with questions about the area and not only did she have detailed info on my interests, but also suggestions on hikes I had been aware of! The amenities of the cabin are not only totally sufficient, but excellent quality. For example we frequently find coffee makers and skillets for fixing breakfast that are less than decent, but here every kitchen item was great! The only unfortunate part of our trip was simply that there is so much to see if you like the outdoors in the Northwoods that we needed more time! We do plan to return, and if this property is available it will be our first choice!

This was a great spot for hiking and relaxing on the deck! The cabin was great for my husband and I!

This home is a true North Shore gem. The owners have put a lot of care in maintaining and updating the property while preserving the cabin's original character. Our family of four adults was very comfortable here. There are a lot of thoughtful touches throughout for guests, like plenty of mirrors and storage space for our suitcases and clothing.
The cabin was very clean and felt spacious. Check-in was simple and our host was very responsive to inquiries. Sound does travel through the bedrooms as the ceiling is completely open, but this was communicated clearly in the listing. The amenities here were amazing, and I only wish we had more time to enjoy them. We would most definitely return!

Pet friendly! So nice with open front and back. Our beagle would want in the front and then immediately out the back. We played this game all day. Excellent kitchen with ALL you need. Beautiful log cabin. Felt completely comfortable. Only thing missing was being able to get down to the water and hear the waves. We were out hiking much of the days. Missed using the sauna but I can imagine it being perfect in the winter! Thank you! You have a beautiful place!

This is a great place to stay. Clean and comfortable with a nice yard and beautiful views. I hadn't realized there was no dishwasher until I got there but that wasn't a big deal for me. Hope I get a chance to stay here again in the future!

This cabin was very nice and clean. The view of Lake Superior is spectacular. It's nice to have the gazebo, which is also very nice and clean, especially when the mosquitoes are bad. Sarah and Steve gave us their number and said to call if we had any concerns, and there were none. We also appreciated it that we could bring our beloved dog with us.

Our second stay at this wonderful log cabin. Cabin has everything one needs. Clean and very comfortable. Gazebo is great for being outside and away from mosquitos. Didn't use the new sauna but it looked very spacious. You can't beat the view of Lake Superior.
