About this apartment rental
[please inquire about availability and price; because of our multiple listings, VRBO cannot make the calendar or, in small ways, its pricing algorithm, work accurately for our apartments]
We list several Budapest apartments on VRBO, each with a distinctive and different personality, designed to appeal to a different sort of traveler. Apartment Andrei is our newest, with a casual elegance for a relaxed and civilized stay. Larger than our others, a bit further from the din of the business district and the tourists flocking like lemmings down pedestrianized theme park streets, Andrei is still in the heart of town, within the innermost ringroad (Korut) that arcs in a semicircle on the Pest side of the Danube.
Easy access to public transit -- the 4/6 tram along the Korut, the north/south Blue Metro -- all the major sights are nonetheless within an easy walk ... the nearest are just a block or so away (the Museum of Applied Arts and Raday utca, the gallery and café center of the city); the National Museum is a bit further; the farthest are less than two miles away (Parliament perhaps). In between lie the Basilica, the Great Synagogue, the Opera House, the Operetta Theatre, the Music Academy, the Central Market Hall, Vaci utca ... all just an amble away, a stroll interrupted by a cup of coffee at the Eckermann, a glass of fresh limonade the Cafe Alibi, a Francia Kremes at the Auguszt patisserie, a Soproni beer at the Cafe Gerloczy.
You enter the apartment from the walkway above the courtyard, walking through a foyer past the bedroom with en suite bath, the wc, the washer/dryer/utility room into the spacious and stately living room -- 26' x 18' with its long far wall and high ceilings opening onto a 25' balcony that overlooks the verdant historic churchyard in the heart of the IXth district. The town hall is on this same square (Bakats ter), and it fronts on the bustle of the semi-pedestrianized Raday utca. But here at the back of the square, it is tranquil and soothing ... all you hear are the birds, all you see is the slightly tattered landscaped park behind the church.
A vacation away can be more than a hurtle at warp speed from one tourist geegaw to the next. It can be a restful sojourn, a respite from a busy life, an immersion into a familiar but pleasantly alien culture. A step sideways in space, a bit backwards in time, Andrei is comfortably situated in a Budapest lifestyle that is not just reminiscent of the grand cafe life between the wars, but actually presents its embodiment and draws you into it as though you were a family member not a traveling stranger.
Priced like apartments half its size, with twice the grace and a unique ambience, Andrei is ideal for up to four guests, manageable for up to five. We recommend a stay of five or more nights to capture the city's rhythm and immerse yourself into the warm bath of its lifestyle.
Our basic philosophy as hosts is not about providing the fanciest or grandest place to stay (though there’s nothing wrong with fancy or grand). What we want to create is the magical sense that you have just walked through a formerly locked door in your own home, a door that you’ve somehow never noticed before. And on the other side of that door you discover a small suite of rooms, indisputably yours -- a continuation of the rest of your apartment or house, comforting and cozy and everything in exactly the place you expect it to be -- and when you look out through the windows you are gazing into the heart of Budapest.
A recent guest pretty much sums it up:
'As a very busy owner of a small, medical education business, I travel ALOT all over the world and try to find apartments that have the amenities I need but also allow me to experience something more that the board room or conference center of a chain hotel. When searching for a place for me and my staff to stay in Budapest, I came across two connecting apartments in the heart of town. Although not the luxury penthouses that I might usually gravitate to, they had a special quality about them that caused me to enquire about them to the owner. From the moment I started interacting with John about his and Jeanne's apartments Sarah and Belle, I was transported wonderfully and amazingly to a country and city I have never visited: With the help of John's detailed descriptions and user-friendly Budapest manual, I felt supported in my trip in a manner I had never previously experienced. Not only were the apartments immaculate, sweet and complete, we never once were at a loss of what to do, where to get something we needed and who to contact for those little--and big--situations that are bound to occur on any trip. All four of us had a wonderful time, but we would not have had half the good time we had w/o staying at this very picturesque Budapest apartment. I could sing opera about the entire thing ...'

Beautiful apartment, nicely set up, nice location with very helpful hosts.

We recently had the immense pleasure of staying at Apartment Andrei while in Budapest for the World Athletics Championships, and it served as the perfect base for our holiday.
From the moment we stepped inside, we felt as though we were temporarily staying at an old friend’s apartment while they were away. It was intimate and personal, unlike the feeling of most rentals. The interiors are exquisitely and tastefully decorated and was fully equipped with everything we could possibly need, making our stay all the more comfortable.
One of the standout aspects of our experience was the fantastic communication we had with John, the owner. He arranged for a pick-up from the airport and a warm welcome at the apartment where every feature was explained. And to top it all, the fridge was generously stocked with food and treats, an unexpected but much-appreciated gesture.
The custom guide written by John about the area was not only informative but sprinkled with amusing anecdotes, making our exploration of Budapest all the more fun.
Apartment Andrei is perfectly positioned. Overlooking the square and the stunning church. The apartment offers peace away from bustling traffic, yet the surroundings still brim with life and character. We could escape the tourist bustle and yet reach main attractions within a 10-minute tram ride.
I can't recommend Apartment Andrei enough. If you’re seeking a true Budapest experience with a touch of luxury and unmatched hospitality, look no further.

The apartment is beautiful and John went above and beyond to be helpful, having someone meet and show us the property, providing breakfast and wine and making himself available to help with questions and suggestions. More than we expected and much appreciated.

Couldn't fault a thing
This was by far the nicest flat I've stayed in when visiting Budapest over the years. Bakats ter is a picturesque square with a church in the centre and virtually no traffic. The balcony gives you an ideal view of the square and is large enough for two people to sit and enjoy a coffee. It also has some gorgeous stone statues that are consistent with the grandeur of the building. John has furnished his flat to an extremely high standard, including a large glass dining table with very comfy seating (which I mostly used as an office desk, but would be ideal for hosting dinners). The kitchen was generously stocked on arrival & check-in was very well organised, with a local contact on-hand if I needed anything. Some people might prefer to be in the dead centre of the city, but District IX feels much less touristy, has better amenities, and is just as close to many of the attractions. Literally can't fault a thing. The jazz cafe round the corner (Cafe Jedermann) is also fantastic & seems to be very popular with locals.

Lovely apartment in a quiet part of Budapest.
A really nice apartment on the first floor of a lovely old apartment block facing a church. Very quiet area a little way out from the centre of town but easy access into town and all the sites via tram or subway. Close to shops and less than 5 minutes to the river.
The apartment was very well appointed and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The owner has thought of everything and there is a wealth of information documented in the apartment for the first time visitor to Budapest like us. We would certainly stay here again if we come back to Budapest.

Everything one needs for a perfect Budapest experience
I have stayed at a lot of HomeAway/VRBO properties all across the world and staying at Apartment Andrei was by far one of the best experiences I have had. This was a vacation with my 26-year old daughter, and our good experience began long before we ever reached Budapest. Owner John reached out prior to our arrival with lots of great information about the city, an offer to arrange transportation to/from the airport (we did and it was perfect and reasonably priced), and even where to get the best bank exchange rates. John also wanted to know if we had any food allergies or preferences--both for restaurant recommendations and how to best stock the fridge--and if we preferred down or synthetic pillows. Seriously!
When we arrived at the apartment--much larger than it looked in the photos--we were absolutely delighted. The apartment is very nicely appointed with art and antiques and has a warm and inviting feeling. Frankly, I don't think the pictures do it justice. The kitchen was also fully equipped, although we were so close to Raday utca lined with its many restaurants and a bakery right around the corner with so many yummy looking treats one could hardly choose, that why would one even consider cooking in the apartment.
My daughter and I are both a bit compulsive when it comes to cleanliness, so trust me when I say the apartment was scrupulously clean and every amenity one could think of was on hand: handmade Turkish towels, guidebooks, movies, games and puzzles, extra toiletry items, all the makings for a good cappuccino, and even a few items in the fridge. Both the bed in the main bedroom and the sleeper-sofa (not the traditional fold-out as is typical in the US) were quite comfortable. Good water pressure in the bathroom, plenty of hot water, and multiple self-standing air conditioners, all contributed to our comfortable stay.
And the location was PERFECT. The apartment was quiet yet centrally located with access to the tram just around the corner and nearby Raday utca lined with restaurants. And the apartment balcony, which faces a lovely old church and quiet square, was the perfect place for enjoying our morning coffee and local pastries.
In short, the next time I am back in Budapest I will definitely stay at this apartment...truly a 5-star experience!

Andrei
Put your faith in the descriptions of John and Jeanne's apartments, and the 5 star reviews that others have written - John, the owner, is truly helpful, as is his local apartment manager. The apartments are so well set up that it's hard to see what local help you might need, but you would certainly get their help if you need it. I had a great time here and would be delighted to return.

My husband & I stayed for 2 wonderful weeks in apartment Andrei & wish it could have been longer. Be prepared to feel like home the moment you enter. John & Jeanne have really done a magnificent job stocking the apartment with all the necessities & more. We were welcomed by Zsuzsa who familiarized us with all the features of the apartment. Zsuzsa was always a phone call away from any assistance we needed as a matter fact so was John. Our thanks to you & Jeanne for the thoughtful welcome goodies upon our arrival! We really appreciated the information that John provided as to restaurants & attractions -- & there are many excellent ones close by. Apartment Andrei is located within walking distance to the Central Market, Danube , bakeries , supermarkets & of course the transit system. We highly recommend apartment Andei-- you will not be disappointed! We absolutely fell in love with "Pest" & we will be back & of course looking forward to staying in Apartment Andrei.
Thank you John & Jeanne!!

It was enough for me that the apartment was centrally located, literally close to everything cool in the city.
It was enough for me that the space itself is awesome, tucked away in a quaint courtyard.
It was enough for me that the apartment comes replete with all the little things that make a stay away from home palatable...a complimentary bottle of wine, a desktop computer, all the toiletries you'll ever need, personalized travel guides with amazing recommendations, etc.
These aren't services and accommodations that barely meet your needs; this is attention to detail and customer care.
This isn't just a place you stay for a trip; this is home away from home.
You'll feel the love as soon as you walk in the front door...

Apartment Andrei was the best apartment we have ever rented and we have rented a lot of them as we have traveled the world. Wonderful information for site seeing and restaurants from John and Jeanne. Detailed instructions in how to use all the amenities in the apartment ( a must as many of the appliances will not have familiar buttons to push). We arrived to a great bottle of Hungarian wine, a fully stocked refrigerator incl. 4 lovely Hungarian pastries. The location was in a real neighborhood an easy distance to all the sites. The apartment was quite spacious and comfortable with extra pillows, blankets, etc available. The owners were some of the most thoughtful hosts as to what would be needed for a seamless stay.

My daughter & I rented Apartment Andrei for our first trip to Budapest. Immediately upon booking the apartment the owner's John & Jeanne forwarded all the information we would need for our trip. Recommendations for dining, shopping, how to navigate the city by transit & much, much more! It eliminated the need for me to do any further research outside of which sights to take in. All the guesswork was gone. After a seamless & pleasant arrival (we arranged for their driver to pick us up at the airport) we settled in to the lovely, clean & tastefully decorated apartment Andrei. It is exactly as it is presented in the pictures so there are no surprises, except that it feels much like home. Just as with others, we were treated to fresh pastries, cheese & salami which set our palate for the balance of our stay, but most importantly eliminated the need to rush out & buy the basics. Any questions we had during our stay were answered in the guides that had been previously emailed, but of course there were also copies left in the apartment. We decided to explore some of the recommendations for dining, pastries, tours etc & were not disappointed.
The neighbourhood is quiet & lovely, but also just a short stroll to the many cafes & restaurants on Raday Utca.
Budapest was the highlight of our vacation & this is partially due to John & Jeanne & the team of people they have supporting them! Highly, highly recommend Apartment Andrei & I'm certain any of the other BVR apartments!!!

The day we arrived at the apartment it was quite a hot day. As we were informed, Ilona met us just as expected at the time expected. When we entered the unit the air conditioners had the place at a refreshing temperature. We were greeted with wine and pastries which we enjoyed on the balcony overlooking Bakats ter. Andrei is well appointed and stocked with all the necessities to make for an enjoyable and comfortable stay. The neighborhood is peaceful but not lacking activity. The restaurants of Raday utca offer a wide range of food choices. There are grocery stores, pharmacies and small shops. The 4/6 tram is directly behind the building. The Central Market less than a 10 minute walk and once you are there you are at the start of Vaci u. and off its stores and restaurants. I can't say enough about this unit.

Loved Andrei, loved Budapest
Our first trip to Budapest, 6 nights; our first apartment! But the 'fun' apartment search soon overwhelmed us with unfamiliar neighborhoods, sight-unseen commitment, logistics, other uncertainties. We noted the consistently favorable [ecstatic!] reviews of Budapest Vacation Rentals apartments, however, and, happily, we found Andrei.
Andrei ... It's a gorgeous & spacious apartment, with a balcony that is perfection for leisurely morning coffee, and a calming view of church steeples & trees. Many amenities like Nespresso coffee, wine, your 1st breakfast; cellphone & computer for your use; insider Budapest info & recommendations; and, seemingly, whatever you forgot to pack. Utterly reliable airport runs, welcoming manager for keys & questions. Perfection.
Andrei is a little farther afield, but only a few blocks from Raday street ['nouveau restaurant row'], the Danube, the #2 Danube tram and other transit, and several Budapest sights. Thus easy sightseeing & dining from Andrei. Our 1st day, we walked to Parlament & beyond [walking is especially rewarding in Budapest], but soon realized that, wherever we stayed, we'd use transit just to save time [many sights, miles apart, few days]. Thus 'farther afield' became irrelevant [buy a transit pass!].
Budapest is so stunning, so vibrant it amazed us, but sometimes where you stay greatly enhances a visit. This was Andrei. Very thankful for the reviews that brought us here, but most grateful, exceedingly grateful, for the BVR crew whose meticulous attention to detail and contageous enthusiasm for Budapest brings us Andrei itself. Highest recommendation.

Perfect Stay at the Andrei
This wonderfully equipped, graciously provisioned and cozy unit is located on the 2nd level of a nice building in what we recall is called the Cafe District. It is its own neighborhood full of interesting places to walk, eat and socialize, including the Central Market. But it is also close at hand to the attractions of Central Budapest, either by the Metro or the more classic trolley. The cultural and tourist information provided was very helpful, and "operating" instructions were quite satisfactory. And John was always
available by phone if necessary--only once for us. Our week in Budapest (our first) before a week on the Danube was made by our stay at the Andrei.

Spacious, light-filled apartment on a charming, slightly out-of-the-way square
Exhausted after flying overnight from New York (with a 4-hour layover in Frankfurt), we felt instantly rejuvenated when we walked into the Andrei apartment. I hadn't been sure what to expect, since we usually stay in hotels, and I was delighted by this charming second-floor apartment with its high ceilings, and french doors opening out onto a small veranda overlooking a charming old church in the square (Bakats Ter).
And when it came to the practical stuff, Andrei did not disappoint. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen fully stocked (with an easy-to-use espresso maker), and towels and blankets plentiful.
John Farago, from whom we rented the apartment, made our stay so easy. We were in Budapest for a whirlwind long weekend to celebrate a wedding, with lots of parties, meals out, etc. We were totally new to the city and really had no time to get our bearings. But John hooked us up with a taxi driver who was always easy to reach, and always punctual -- and that really allayed our anxiety about getting around, which made our experience in Budapest that much more fun and rich.
And if we ever had any questions or concerns about the apartment or the city, John was always easy to reach. Staying in Andrei turned a family milestone into an amazing experience that our family will always treasure. I cannot recommend it enough.
One caveat: If you like to sleep in on Sunday morning, bring earplugs. The church bells start chiming -- loudly -- at 9:30am on Sundays!

Would plan a trip around this apartment!
The allure of this apartment (Andrei) helped draw us to Budapest, and it exceeded our expectations. The apartment is tasteful and comfortable, and we felt at home from the moment we arrived. It is also matched with a terrific support system reflecting the owners’ commitment to travellers using one of their apartments. After a long flight, the airport pickup, food and wine in the refrigerator, and the comforts and amenities of the apartment provided an easy transition to Budapest.
We especially loved the exquisite 26’ long balcony, with statues, shade, a sitting area, and a view overlooking the lovely church in Bakats Tér as well as quiet street life. We began our days with coffee and pastries on the balcony, and returned in the evenings to plan dinner or just decompress, and to listen to the music at the weekend festivals.
The neighborhood is very appealing, lying just outside the tourist bubble. Our first local walks took us to bakeries, chocolate stores, galleries, cafes, a contemporary dance & visual arts center, and restaurants (we enjoyed the Petrus on Berzenczey at Ferenc Tér) mostly oriented to neighborhood residents.
John’s enthusiasm for helping others discover Budapest is reflected in his detailed online advice (his orientation to Metro tickets and inspectors is a small masterpiece of travel literature), but also in his focus on individual needs and tastes; John even arranged a key research contact through his extensive network of friends.
Most of all, the apartment itself is the draw: Andrei is worth planning a trip around!

Quality, Value, Elegance, Solitude in the Center
Numerous visits to Budapest always call us back to Apartment Andrei as our home away from home. All communication and booking is seamless, and regardless of our comfort and familiarity with the city and the apartments, all support staff are there to readily assist you during your stay. This is a major plus when many owner/operators are very passive landlords in this city. The location is unsurpassed folks. It is quiet, on a beautiful unique square on a lovely elegant old street. Raday utca at the corner, has every conceivable restaurant you could want whether it is take away or sit down, of all ethnic flavors and style. The metro is within walking distance and the tram is right around the corner. Grocery stores (2) are on the same block so the support systems are there any time of day or night. As avid travelers, we always choose apartments over hotels and have a good basis of comparison. While we have had the good fortune of great apartment experiences, nothing parallels Andrei. The computer/printer is a major plus, there is every conceivable guide book to avail yourself of Hungarian history and cuisine, and whether you forgot your contact solution or shoe polish - it is stocked just like home. Let's face it - everything in Europe is furnished with Ikea but the choice of beautiful secession antiques along with major great poster art complement the original porcelain stove in the apartment. You really feel like you are in another time of old worldly elegance with modern conveniences. The Nespresso machine tops it all off, along with the lovingly stocked refrigerator that is most welcome after an often weary trip. People just want to dump their suitcases and settle in - and once you do I guarantee you won't want to leave. It is light, airy, private with a fantastic floor plan. Even the bathroom is ensuite which is a rare find in an old apartment. The building is beautiful, secure with easy access and pleasant neighbors. Whether it is summer, winter, spring or fall (we've been all seasons), the views, light and ambiance is incredible. This is an experience you won't want to miss. It isn't worth it to spin you wheels with this level of quality. I just can't say enough!

Fabulous flat
I rented Apt Andrei for the entire month of January. It's spacious, in fabulous condition, and beautifully decorated. The furniture and bed are very comfortable for working, relaxing, and sleeping. I was met by the very pleasant and helpful property manager on arrival. Pastries and a bottle of wine were in the apartment as welcome gifts. The refrigerator was stocked with basic items. The apartment has VOIP phones with US numbers and an Hungarian cell phone. I also appreciated having a computer and printer available ... perfect for buying tickets online. The apartment was thoroughly cleaned once a week throughout my stay.
The owner, John, was very helpful from the moment I contacted him. He went out of his way to track down answers to very specific questions I had while planning my month in Budapest. He called during my stay just to make sure everything was going well.
The location was perfect for me. It is close enough to the tourist district that I could walk or take the nearby metro, but just far enough away that I felt I was actually living in a neighborhood rather than visiting as a tourist. The apartment sits on a lovely square with a beautiful church. I could not have asked for a better view! There are lots of great restaurants within walking distance from the apartment.
When I return to Budapest, I will definitely be booking Apartment Andrei again.

So much more than we expected!!
We had heard very good things about Budapest Vacation Rentals - and Apartment Andrei in Bakats Ter!
What we found when we arrived was just so much more than we could have hoped for - let alone expected.
We were greeted by Ilona - the caretaker, who was just delightful, courteous and respectful of the fact that we had travelled a long, long way and were a bit "shattered". She guided us through the apartment in a warm and friendly manner, showing us where things were, maps, everything.
The apartment is extremely well appointed - in fact, in many years of travelling, we have never experienced accommodation anywhere in the world that matches Andrei for appointments, etc.
I would do the apartment a dis-service if I now tried to recount the amenities within, so I urge you to go to the website and see for yourself!
John, the owner is simply amazing! From my initial enquiries around the middle of last year, right through to his telephone call (from New York) to check that all was fine - and to see if there was anything he could do to further enhance our visit to Budapest/Andrei - he has been wonderfully gracious and helpful - we feel as though we have made new friends.
Andrei is located in a lovely quiet locale - opposite a gorgeous Church - yet close to everything. Supermarkets, restaurants and transport are all on your doorstep.
We really didn't use public transport whilst there.
We did do the Hop On/Hop Off Bus Tour, and cruise of the Danube. On a suggestion from John, we also did a full day vineyard and food trip to Vienna with Tastes of Budapest - which was absolutely brilliant! Gabor, our Host for the trip was delightful.
Without question our visit to beautiful Budapest was made more enjoyable by having firstly "discovering" Budapest Vacation Rentals and John - and staying in Apartment Andrei.
We can't recommend this property highly enough!

Andrei--great apartment in Budapest!
After choosing Andrei for our Budapest stay, we had the pleasure of dealing with John. The rental arrangements were seamless as was our arrival. We were greeted by Ilona who showed us the apartment and answered any of our questions. John also had prepared us in advance with emails concerning everything from the apartment itself to shopping, sights, restaurants, etc. He also had duplicate copies of the same information in the apartment so that we had all of the information at our fingertips! The apartment is in a lovely building with elevator. Andrei is well furnished and the kitchen is modern and well equipped. The bathrooms are up to date and the water is always hot! The bed is very comfortable and the TV worked beautifully and had available a number of programs in English. The apartment is very close to central Budapest with trams/buses very close and the neighborhood abounds with shops and restaurants. My wife and I have stayed in numerous apartments throughout western and central Europe. This apartment would be a great apartment anywhere.

A peaceful retreat
My elderly mother and I traveled to Central Europe in May 2013, spending 6 nights at the Apartment Andrei in Budapest. The description provided on VBRO is quite accurate and the owner provides the renter with more than enough guidance and information. The apartment was clean and welcoming. On occasion, I did wish we were closer to the center of the city, but usually changed my mind when returning to our peaceful neighborhood after a busy/touristy day.
This apartment is a 1 bedroom with a sleeper sofa in the living room. The sofa bed wasn't so comfortable for me. Easy to fix with a thicker mattress pad, I think.
For my mother, Budapest was not so walkable from the apartment, so we purchased a 7-day pass for transit and got around just fine. I'd recommend doing the same as the city is quite spread out.
The restaurants on Raday are all yummy and reasonably priced.
Activities I would recommend: opera, House of Terror, walking/touring the castle district, just ride the #2 tram for sites. Budapest is beautiful!
Paying in Euros was a bit of a challenge, but I made it work. Would have preferred an easier way of payment (w/o all the worries of additional fees).
Thanks to John for all the information and attention before and during our stay!

Great Place to Stay!
This apartment is everything the rental listings and the many rave reviews promise. Perfectly located, spacious, and beautifully decorated, Apt. Andrei was the perfect place to come 'home' to during my recent stay in Budapest.
An eminently suitable host, John brings both his American upbringing and his deep Hungarian roots to bear as he and his staff provide an experience to the vacationing traveler that could not possibly be improved upon. Everything you could possible want or need has been thought of - from the vast array of toiletries, to the spa bag for trips to the nearby thermal pools, to ponchos and umbrellas in case of rain. Not to mention the wine and pastries waiting for you in the fully equiped kitchen.
Abundant information regarding local shops, restaurants, and cafes, as well as wide ranging tips on how to make the most of your stay is provided both in the apartment and online before you arrive. John and his staff are always available once you arrive and they take pains to ensure that your stay with them is the best it can possibly be.

Simply the best!!!!
We have been fortunate enought to spend 5 nights in this truly amazing apartment and loved every second of it. It is equipped with everything a traveller could possibly want, with incredible trust. We wanted for nothing! The icing on the cake was the Nespresso machine & the generous offering of pods!
The location is a food lover and sightseer's dream. A short stroll & you have numerous bars and restaurants from which to choose and all that we tried were excellent. Agai n we had great information from the booklets in the apartment & Soul Cafe & If we're great. We walked to most of the attractions we wanted to see and were close to public transport for the others. Budapest is a fantastic city but having the best accommodation while enjoying it made this a truly momentous experience. Thank you so much John.

Great location across from church/park. Spacious, tastefully decorated. Accurately depicted in VRBO listing. Unusually well-equipped. Examples: screens on working windows; Turkish cotton towels; LL Bean bag and towels for trips to Turkish baths; kitchen apron; real house plants! Conscientious owner who leaves delicious wine and treats. Attractive price. What more could you want or expect? It's a deal, folks.

This was my 2nd stay in an apartment and I wish all the apartments can be this good. Owner provided all the details one might need to plan the visit. Manager met us at the apartment and provided detailed information on everything. Apartment was very clean and spacious. Very quite neighborhood and close to many restaurants and tram service. Apartment has all the items one might need they even had pastries for us on arrival (I have to say that Budapest has one of best pastries I have tasted so far and I love sweets and taste them where ever I go).
Owner recommended a taxi service that I used to / from airport and also in the city, very courteous and on time and reasonably priced.
If I ever go back, I will definitely stay at this apartment.
Thank you John for a great experience in Budapest.

What a fantastic experience, start to finish. We contacted the owner (John) when we were deciding between an apartment or a hotel. He gave us so much wonderful information - it was like having a friend who had lived in another country, and was happy to share his knowledge. The apartment is in a great location, with easy access to the tram, and about a 15 minute walk to the heart of the city. Although we only stayed 5 nights, the location helped us feel like we were residents, not tourists. Great restaurants nearby, and the apartment itself was beautiful and clean. Comfortable queen-sized bed, big living/dining room, great patio, laundry in the apartment, well stocked kitchen (with food waiting for us in the refrigerator, and a bottle of wine). A telephone and computer for our use, and wi-fi. This truly was a home away from home, and we will be back for another stay. I would recommend this apartment, or any of the others John owns (there is no question that you can trust his advice) to friends and family. If you are going to Budapest, contact John. You won't be sorry!

Our visit to Budapest this past summer was made particularly comfortable was apartment Andrei. Situated across from a leafy square with a high church tower, in walking distance to the tram, pharmacy, groceries, and an ATM, the special feature is that it is in a real neighborhood, with a street of cafes, night life, musicians, and good food. Not touristy, it seemed to by frequented by Hungarians enjoying the warm summer evenings. The apartment itself was elegant, with antique side furniture, and a simple modern glass table. The rooms are generous in size, and the kitchen and bath had everything we could possibly want. Coming home to Andrei at the end of a day, and having the space to relax in, on a comfortable bed and/or couch, looking out into the green leaves, sitting on the balcony to read, this made it seem that we were living in Budapest. I would rent it again.
Our time in Budapest with filled with the scene of mountains and river, flat lands and unusual buildings. The people were friendly, the tram system workable, and so much to see. It is a city filled with history from many periods including trauma and oppression, freedom and pride. The people are friendly, the walking streets, the central market, the churches and statues make it a fine city for exploring.

My husband and I stayed in Apartment Andrei for twelve nights in August 2012.
From start to finish, this was a wonderful experience. John was responsive by both phone and email, with a very organized rental process. He provided a wealth of information prior to our trip, including details on the apartment and access, places to eat, how best to get to and fro, where to get what, and so on. We felt very prepared for our stay.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by Ilona, who cares for the home. She was most pleasant, showed us about, and had even prepared a selection of delicious homemade pastries for our arrival. The refrigerator was stocked with snacks and provisions, which was a very nice touch after such a long day of traveling.
The apartment was exactly as advertised, with accurate photos. Everything was in perfect working order. We appreciated the wireless internet, and that a computer and printer were available (although we used our own devices). A U.S. power strip was provided, so we could charge our devices easily and didn't have to rely on our adapter. The available cell phone and U.S. phone were nice to have, although we did not use them.
The living and dining room were very spacious with a fantastic view of Bakats Ter, a great place to watch people. The bed and linens were very comfortable. The on-demand water heater and lovely Turkish towels provided nice showers. The kitchen was well-stocked. We could easily live in such a space.
We loved the location, just steps from Raday Utca, a great street for restaurants. Transit was very convenient, with two tram stops in proximity for when we didn't feel like walking.
John checked on us during our stay, via a quick phone call, a nice touch. He also followed up with us after we returned home.
By the end of our stay, we had met the neighbor, who was very friendly.
My husband and I agree that if (when) we return to Budapest, we will look no further than Apartment Andrei. It is a perfect place to stay.

Clean, quiet, spacious and homey, with every detail carefully thought through and provided, from umbrellas to corkscrews, a coffee machine, computer, music and video library, multiple guidebooks, telephones, a bottle of wine and food in the refrigerator on arrival, plus the local contact person and a recommended taxi to meet us at the airport. We were welcomed like private guests staying in a friend's borrowed apartment. Top notch experience.

We stayed in two of his owner's apartments during a short stay recently. This one, "Andrei", with slightly different but like the other ("Max") wonderful value, high-class accommodation, and a great location. We were beautifully looked after by the on-site staff and the owner. Free calls to North America, Internet, modern world-standard kitchen and bathroom, all in an old-fashioned well-maintained building. Statuary on the balcony seemed to enhance the sound of choir practice from the church across the street. Overall pretty hard to beat.

I can't say enough how great it was to do business with John and stay at Andrei for a few days. The apartment was fantastic. It was beyond well-appointed; there didn't seem to be anything missing from that apartment, it truly felt like somebody's home. It was tastefully furnished, sparkling clean, and comfy. Everything worked perfectly. The balcony was great for relaxing in the evening and having a drink while watching the late night dog walkers on the church grounds. The neighborhood was spectacular as well. Less than a five-minute walk puts you in the heart of Raday Utca, which had tons of awesome restaurants, bars, and treat shops. Just sitting outside and having dinner at the restaurants there will remain a highlight from our trip to Budapest. Then walking the short walk "home" made us really feel like a local.
Sometimes the worst part of renting apartments online is dealing with the owners. John proved that not only does he take his job as an owner seriously, but he also genuinely loves Budapest and wants his renters to feel that same love when they leave his apartments. From the very beginning he answered all questions promptly and emailed to me several neighborhood and apartment "guides" that were so thorough, they could probably be published and sold as travel guides. Lonely Planet has nothing on John! Even after arrival, John called from New York to check in and make sure everything was going well. After departure, John called again to make see if we had any suggestions for improving the apartment, and we couldn't think of a single thing! John is personable, dedicated, and a pleasure to do business with.
We spent several days in Andrei before moving to an upscale hotel because my wife's company paid for the hotel room for the remainder of the trip. After a day in the hotel, we were aching to get back to Andrei! We even considered ditching the free hotel room to go back to Andrei for the rest of the week, just because we missed being there so much.
I highly recommend staying at Andrei and I imagine that any of John's properties would be as well-appointed, comfortable, and lovely as Andrei is. We can't wait to get back to Budapest and stay in Andrei again!

This charming apartment is absolutely everything John's description leads you to believe it will be. Re-reading the listing, I can put a check next to every item, both tangible and intangible. We fell in love with the apartment and the city almost immediately, thanks to the care John and Jeanne have taken to make sure their guests feel completely at home. After a few days, we took a side trip to Vienna. Our apartment there really underscored the "above and beyond" qualities of Andrei, since at a much higher price it did not have: the computer, the books, the power strip on US power, the kitchen fully functional for more than coffee and a piece of bread, the coffee/pastries/eggs/cheese/wine welcoming us, or an owner with a personal interest in our having a comfortable and happy stay. Our pre-arrival fears that Andrei was a little remote were erased immediately; everything is nearby, and the streets are a pleasure to stroll through. If time is an issue, public transportation is right around the corner, easy, and inexpensive. One note: the double bed is very comfortable, but we didn't care for the European-style two single duvets instead of one double duvet. I didn't mention this to John till after we were home, so that's when I found out I could have had a double duvet brought over just by asking. The only negative I can come up with is that after you stay at Andrei you will be spoiled for ordinary apartment rentals!

John,
Andrei is everything and more that VRBO advertised. Your housekeeper did a wonderful job getting the apartment ready for us and your driver was waiting for us when we arrived. We found maps, directions and recommendations as well as great books and recipes. The location was fantastic. Right next to the main boulevard and on the tram line, it was also the most peaceful in its little square. Most important for us was that your apartment has the best equipped kitchen and is the most comfortable rental we have ever used. Almost anything we thought of or needed we found. You even had the unusual stuff like a knife sharpener, grater, cutting board, proper knives and decent cooking utensils. The additional thoughtful items of raincoats, spa bag, and unbrellas made it really feel like home. I also loved the posters warming the rooms, the couch throws, and even the homey plants. We had several family dinners at the house and it felt perfect!
