About this apartment rental

[please inquire about availability and price; because of our multiple listings, VRBO cannot make the calendar or, in small ways, its pricing algorithm, work accurately for our apartments]

We list several Budapest apartments on VRBO, each with a distinctive and different personality, designed to appeal to a different sort of traveler. Apartment Andrei is our newest, with a casual elegance for a relaxed and civilized stay. Larger than our others, a bit further from the din of the business district and the tourists flocking like lemmings down pedestrianized theme park streets, Andrei is still in the heart of town, within the innermost ringroad (Korut) that arcs in a semicircle on the Pest side of the Danube.

Easy access to public transit -- the 4/6 tram along the Korut, the north/south Blue Metro -- all the major sights are nonetheless within an easy walk ... the nearest are just a block or so away (the Museum of Applied Arts and Raday utca, the gallery and café center of the city); the National Museum is a bit further; the farthest are less than two miles away (Parliament perhaps). In between lie the Basilica, the Great Synagogue, the Opera House, the Operetta Theatre, the Music Academy, the Central Market Hall, Vaci utca ... all just an amble away, a stroll interrupted by a cup of coffee at the Eckermann, a glass of fresh limonade the Cafe Alibi, a Francia Kremes at the Auguszt patisserie, a Soproni beer at the Cafe Gerloczy.

You enter the apartment from the walkway above the courtyard, walking through a foyer past the bedroom with en suite bath, the wc, the washer/dryer/utility room into the spacious and stately living room -- 26' x 18' with its long far wall and high ceilings opening onto a 25' balcony that overlooks the verdant historic churchyard in the heart of the IXth district. The town hall is on this same square (Bakats ter), and it fronts on the bustle of the semi-pedestrianized Raday utca. But here at the back of the square, it is tranquil and soothing ... all you hear are the birds, all you see is the slightly tattered landscaped park behind the church.

A vacation away can be more than a hurtle at warp speed from one tourist geegaw to the next. It can be a restful sojourn, a respite from a busy life, an immersion into a familiar but pleasantly alien culture. A step sideways in space, a bit backwards in time, Andrei is comfortably situated in a Budapest lifestyle that is not just reminiscent of the grand cafe life between the wars, but actually presents its embodiment and draws you into it as though you were a family member not a traveling stranger.

Priced like apartments half its size, with twice the grace and a unique ambience, Andrei is ideal for up to four guests, manageable for up to five. We recommend a stay of five or more nights to capture the city's rhythm and immerse yourself into the warm bath of its lifestyle.

Our basic philosophy as hosts is not about providing the fanciest or grandest place to stay (though there’s nothing wrong with fancy or grand). What we want to create is the magical sense that you have just walked through a formerly locked door in your own home, a door that you’ve somehow never noticed before. And on the other side of that door you discover a small suite of rooms, indisputably yours -- a continuation of the rest of your apartment or house, comforting and cozy and everything in exactly the place you expect it to be -- and when you look out through the windows you are gazing into the heart of Budapest.

A recent guest pretty much sums it up:

'As a very busy owner of a small, medical education business, I travel ALOT all over the world and try to find apartments that have the amenities I need but also allow me to experience something more that the board room or conference center of a chain hotel. When searching for a place for me and my staff to stay in Budapest, I came across two connecting apartments in the heart of town. Although not the luxury penthouses that I might usually gravitate to, they had a special quality about them that caused me to enquire about them to the owner. From the moment I started interacting with John about his and Jeanne's apartments Sarah and Belle, I was transported wonderfully and amazingly to a country and city I have never visited: With the help of John's detailed descriptions and user-friendly Budapest manual, I felt supported in my trip in a manner I had never previously experienced. Not only were the apartments immaculate, sweet and complete, we never once were at a loss of what to do, where to get something we needed and who to contact for those little--and big--situations that are bound to occur on any trip. All four of us had a wonderful time, but we would not have had half the good time we had w/o staying at this very picturesque Budapest apartment. I could sing opera about the entire thing ...'

We recently had the immense pleasure of staying at Apartment Andrei while in Budapest for the World Athletics Championships, and it served as the perfect base for our holiday. From the moment we stepped inside, we felt as though we were temporarily staying at an old friend’s apartment while they were away. It was intimate and personal, unlike the feeling of most rentals. The interiors are exquisitely and tastefully decorated and was fully equipped with everything we could possibly need, making our stay all the more comfortable. One of the standout aspects of our experience was the fantastic communication we had with John, the owner. He arranged for a pick-up from the airport and a warm welcome at the apartment where every feature was explained. And to top it all, the fridge was generously stocked with food and treats, an unexpected but much-appreciated gesture. The custom guide written by John about the area was not only informative but sprinkled with amusing anecdotes, making our exploration of Budapest all the more fun. Apartment Andrei is perfectly positioned. Overlooking the square and the stunning church. The apartment offers peace away from bustling traffic, yet the surroundings still brim with life and character. We could escape the tourist bustle and yet reach main attractions within a 10-minute tram ride. I can't recommend Apartment Andrei enough. If you’re seeking a true Budapest experience with a touch of luxury and unmatched hospitality, look no further.

The apartment is beautiful and John went above and beyond to be helpful, having someone meet and show us the property, providing breakfast and wine and making himself available to help with questions and suggestions. More than we expected and much appreciated.

Couldn't fault a thing

This was by far the nicest flat I've stayed in when visiting Budapest over the years. Bakats ter is a picturesque square with a church in the centre and virtually no traffic. The balcony gives you an ideal view of the square and is large enough for two people to sit and enjoy a coffee. It also has some gorgeous stone statues that are consistent with the grandeur of the building. John has furnished his flat to an extremely high standard, including a large glass dining table with very comfy seating (which I mostly used as an office desk, but would be ideal for hosting dinners). The kitchen was generously stocked on arrival & check-in was very well organised, with a local contact on-hand if I needed anything. Some people might prefer to be in the dead centre of the city, but District IX feels much less touristy, has better amenities, and is just as close to many of the attractions. Literally can't fault a thing. The jazz cafe round the corner (Cafe Jedermann) is also fantastic & seems to be very popular with locals.

Lovely apartment in a quiet part of Budapest.
Lovely apartment in a quiet part of Budapest.
A really nice apartment on the first floor of a lovely old apartment block facing a church. Very quiet area a little way out from the centre of town but easy access into town and all the sites via tram or subway. Close to shops and less than 5 minutes to the river. The apartment was very well appointed and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. The owner has thought of everything and there is a wealth of information documented in the apartment for the first time visitor to Budapest like us. We would certainly stay here again if we come back to Budapest.

Everything one needs for a perfect Budapest experience
Everything one needs for a perfect Budapest experience
I have stayed at a lot of HomeAway/VRBO properties all across the world and staying at Apartment Andrei was by far one of the best experiences I have had. This was a vacation with my 26-year old daughter, and our good experience began long before we ever reached Budapest. Owner John reached out prior to our arrival with lots of great information about the city, an offer to arrange transportation to/from the airport (we did and it was perfect and reasonably priced), and even where to get the best bank exchange rates. John also wanted to know if we had any food allergies or preferences--both for restaurant recommendations and how to best stock the fridge--and if we preferred down or synthetic pillows. Seriously! When we arrived at the apartment--much larger than it looked in the photos--we were absolutely delighted. The apartment is very nicely appointed with art and antiques and has a warm and inviting feeling. Frankly, I don't think the pictures do it justice. The kitchen was also fully equipped, although we were so close to Raday utca lined with its many restaurants and a bakery right around the corner with so many yummy looking treats one could hardly choose, that why would one even consider cooking in the apartment. My daughter and I are both a bit compulsive when it comes to cleanliness, so trust me when I say the apartment was scrupulously clean and every amenity one could think of was on hand: handmade Turkish towels, guidebooks, movies, games and puzzles, extra toiletry items, all the makings for a good cappuccino, and even a few items in the fridge. Both the bed in the main bedroom and the sleeper-sofa (not the traditional fold-out as is typical in the US) were quite comfortable. Good water pressure in the bathroom, plenty of hot water, and multiple self-standing air conditioners, all contributed to our comfortable stay. And the location was PERFECT. The apartment was quiet yet centrally located with access to the tram just around the corner and nearby Raday utca lined with restaurants. And the apartment balcony, which faces a lovely old church and quiet square, was the perfect place for enjoying our morning coffee and local pastries. In short, the next time I am back in Budapest I will definitely stay at this apartment...truly a 5-star experience!

Put your faith in the descriptions of John and Jeanne's apartments, and the 5 star reviews that others have written - John, the owner, is truly helpful, as is his local apartment manager. The apartments are so well set up that it's hard to see what local help you might need, but you would certainly get their help if you need it. I had a great time here and would be delighted to return.
