A Bit of History
ELK HILL is an early 19th Century registered historic landmark farm and residence. At one time the estate was 22,000 acres and included the Big Survey known today as Wintergreen Resort. The Farm Manager House located across the road from ELK HILL is part of the Rockfish Valley Farm. It was built in 1945 and expanded in the 1970s. It was constructed by Arthur T Ewing Jr. the oldest son of A T Ewing who raised 6 children with his wife Nannie Noble Coleman Ewing at ELK Hill. Arthur Ewing managed over 10,000 apple trees at Elk Hill and later ran a beef cattle operation. The house was subsequently sold to Uel Gardner, the first snow maker at Wintergreen. Uel was also well known for his herd of belted Galloway cattle which grazed the farm. In 1993, Uel and Sandy Gardner sold the farm to the Holcomb’s who ran an organic farm. They sold the farm in 2005 to the present owners, Betsy and Peter Agelasto. In 2005 the owner put the farm into conservation easements and created the hiking and birding trails.

Always a pleasure staying there! Peter is a wonderful host, the house is always clean and the views all around it are spectacular! Very close to the many wineries and breweries.

While right off 151 Hwy, the home was far enough off back to feel like you were in the country. The home was well stocked. There was good space all around. A nice easy hike was right in the back field. We had a few flying guests to greet us but Peter was quick to come to the rescue. The location was perfect, no driving over the mountains and through the woods to get back to the home after visiting the wineries and breweries.

Hubby and I love Bold Rock and Devils Backbone, the home is a rocks throw from either. We loved the home and found it very peaceful. We will stay here again. Plenty of rooms for a large group.

The guest house is rustic, comfortable and well stocked with plenty of cook ware etc. We really enjoyed the view of the mountains, cows and donkeys from the back deck. The location was great, near the Saturday Farmers Market, Bold Rock and Basic Necessities, where we had a wonderful Sunday brunch. We were able to visit Hazy Mountain Winery, Mountain Vine Vineyards and Lovingston. We really enjoyed talking to both Peter and Betsy!! We loved hearing about the farm and their ties to Norfolk and surrounding areas. We are definitely interested in returning for a future stay.
We didn’t receive instructions through VRBO for how to access the guest house, but we were able to figure it out.

We loved our stay here! The house was just what we needed, and the kitchen was well stocked. We came for skiing, which it's in a perfect location to quickly get up to the slopes. The host was friendly, and even stopped by to make sure everything was good. We loved waking up in the morning to the beautiful views and visiting the donkeys! We would definitely stay again.

Our stay was absolutely fantastic. The house is very comfortable and Peter is the perfect host. The owners have been very involved in maintaining the valley and it shows. The location is great. We had easy access to wintergreen for a day of skiing. Devils backbone is just a few minutes away. Amazing hiking trails leave right from the property. The donkeys and cows were an added bonus. The house itself is very charming. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well stocked. We will definitely be back.

Wonderful property close to all the best thing about Nellysford - for us, that’s family. But love that this house is literally right next door to Bold Rock Cidery and one of our favorite hiking trails! Such a cute, clean house - and the farm animals are an added bonus. Can’t wait to return for another family weekend!

We spent Christmas weekend in this cozy farmhouse during record low temps, but we were warm and comfortable the entire time. The home is spacious and the kitchen well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, and utensils. The host was very helpful. The porches looked inviting too, so can't wait to come back when its warm enough to sit outside! Highly recommend this rental.

Lovely Farm House ---In the Blue Ridge Mts
My girlfriends and I came to celebrate a friend's engagement and the house was even sweeter in person. The interior is comfortable and decorated in a traditional farmhouse style. My favorite part of the house was the nice covered porch area with multiple dining and seating hours to relax and enjoy the view. We fell in love with Seymour and Juliette, the two little donkeys in the pasture behind the house. There is a fire pit and easily moveable seating to gather outside comfortably. Peter was a wonderful, responsive host and the property is incredibly convenient to the breweries. We hired a driver for a half day of tours and tastings, but were excited to get back "home" and chill on the porch. Definitely recommend and will be back!

Peaceful vacation
This is my second time staying at this location and I absolutely loved it again. This house is close to ski resorts, shopping and restaurants but at a distance as where it is peaceful and private. This is one of my favorite spots to vacation. Highly recommend.

I'll be back!
Peter was a wonderful host! The kitchen is well stocked which always makes it nice if you're cooking meals in. We enjoyed the cows and donkeys and sitting on the front porch watching the sunset and listening to music in the distance from Bold Rock. Couldn't have asked for a better location with its proximity to Bold Rock Cidery and Devil's Backbone. We also did several of Peter's recommendations - Sweet Bliss and the Nelson County Farmer's Market on Saturday morning. We will be returning!

Great getaway
The property is spacious and comfortable. They have the most amazing linens and towels. The property is the real gem here. The farm is lush and green in the summer with cows and donkeys outside your window. Bordering the property.is the Rockfish River and you can ford the shallow river to get to Bold Rock for some cider and grub. In addition there are some great swimming holes along the river for the family to hang out and get wet, as well as some beautif picnic spots. I highly recommend this home and the surrounding area for a family trip.
