Rustic, that’s why I like it. Clean with everything we needed. Complimentary in season fruits grown on the property. Two roadside bakery stands about a two minute walk from our room. Five minute drive to the best snorkle spot. Our host is very nice and

I had such a relaxing stay. Supplies for the beach and snorkeling. Perfect location- minutes from two step. I would go back in a heartbeat!

It’s hard to choose a place to start when everything is so wonderful. The space is adorable and has everything you need for your stay. We used it as our home base for exploring the island, the close proximity to excellent snorkeling was amazing. We spent one day just at the space enjoying the hot tub and bbq, watching the sunset from the garden. I loved being serenaded to sleep by the tree frogs and gently awakened by the birds. Kathleen is a wonderful host and gave us a tour of the extensive tropical garden. I would stay here again!

It was more than pleasant to live in our little screened in studio. Very private. Ecologically conscious. Wonderful hot tub and outdoor shower, Hope to return one day!

This property is on a hill with a bit of an ocean view, better when at the pool which was a beautiful small saltwater pool that was ten feet deep! The hot tub on the porch was nice for relaxing and listening to all the birds around you. It's mostly open air with an outdoor shower... loved it!! Kathleen is a photographer and her stunning photos decorate the rooms. The yard is lush with all types of tropical plants and trees. Lots of bananas and papaya they set out for you. They have a washer and dryer and lots of gear you can use. I would definitely stay here again!!

We have nothing but good things to say about our stay at Tropical Hideaway! We had everything we needed, and it was the perfect place to enjoy beautiful Hawaii! We loved waking up every day to such a beautiful view, and going to sleep to the chirping of the birds, frogs, and bugs! The privacy of the property was awesome, and it was still such a short drive to great snorkeling and our other adventures! The hosts were so kind and ensured we had everything we needed, and gave us some good pointers for things to do on the island. We loved the fact that the place was just screened in instead of windows, it allowed for a really nice breeze and even without heating and cooling we were always comfortable! We enjoyed using the hot tub every day, and the grill and cooking appliances allowed us to cook several meals while we were there. We loved the ease of recycling and composting as well-everything is set up for little waste! We highly highly recommend this stay, and would love to stay here again if we make it back to Hawaii someday!!

We greatly enjoyed our stay at the tropical hideaway, conveniently located a few minutes drive from two step beach+many coffee shops and about 30 minutes from Kona(which is you ask me, is the perfect distance from the busy tourist town). The space itself is beautiful and private, although the space is below Kathy’s living quarters, we truly felt we had the whole property to ourselves on our honeymoon and barely saw/heard anyone the whole week we stayed. The sunsets from our private hot tub were gorgeous, the home is well stocked, and the frogs put us right to sleep at night( bring ear plugs if you never have slept in a place with frogs as they can be loud to some people) . Kathy was a great host, giving us a tour when we arrived then leaving us to enjoy our privacy. She is responsive and very helpful of what’s locally around. We came for our Honeymoon and wished we could stay longer! 100% would stay again on our next visit to the BI!

We had such a great stay here. The scents and sounds of nature were wonderful. Comfortable beds and everything we needed. Loved the salt water swimming pool. Be sure to stop by the bakery near the bottom of the driveway…delicious.

We loved everything about this place. We slept so well here. The coqui frogs are loud but we like sleeping to loud waves or rainfall. You can hear cars on the road sometimes during the day but they didn't impact our stay. We made good use of the hot tub, pool, and outdoor shower. The pool was bigger then we thought it would be and deep. The sunset views were great. We'd return.

Very enjoyable and easy to feel relaxed in this space. Had everything we needed both inside and out. Area is beautiful to walk and enjoy fresh produce and baked goods right down the road. The host is a available if need but is invisible if your doing your thing. Definitely will book again.

We felt like we were in our own little rainforest!!
We absolutely loved our experience at Paradise Hideaway! It was so peaceful listening to all the nature sounds and I loved how everything was closed in with screens instead of windows! Everything was very clean and Ms. Kathleen was very kind and made sure we had everything we needed. We felt at home and didn’t want to leave once our stay was up :( I’m very glad we found Paradise Hideaway! It was like our own little rainforest!

Special place in Honaunau
Kathleen's place is a wonderful, relaxing hideaway. The inside is screened all around so you feel like you are always outside in the air, even when snuggled in bed. Hot tub outside your door, swimming pool a few steps away. Walk to the Painted Church, 5 min drive to Two Step and the Place of Refuge. Love it.

Relaxing, Truly tropical getaway
We loved our private ohana.Pictures are accurate to web site. Even though there are other people living here still very private and enjoyed working on our sun tans by the pool. The temp of pool in Jan was 75 degrees, which I found prefect We were treated to various fruits during our stay.We enjoyed the breeze that drifted various flower fragrances into our ohana as we slept at night. This is the tropicals and no windows but we found very few little creatures to bother us,we found geckos so entertaining .The hot tub was fantastic to enjoy before and after a day of exploring. This is a great location for snorkeling and hiking. We appreciated the quiet evenings as you are staying under the main house so be mindful not to be loud and as we appreciated the same as you can hear when there is only screens. The road is close but this is a quiet road at night, only the chickens ,frogs and some dogs so if you are a light sleeper you will need ear plugs.Over all I give this hideaway 5star.

Wonderful!
Real Hawaii, not the prepackaged-looks-like-any-other-resort type of thing. Kathleen is a wonderful host who gives you privacy while being quick to answer any question. Fresh fruit from the trees, refreshing outdoor shower and hot tub, and great access to tourism sites. Got to sleep to the song of coqui frogs. (Bring earplugs of this bothers you)
Highly recommended!

Amazing place / area! Not for everyone...?
Owner (Katheen) was gracious and sweet! We had communicated with her several times prior to our arrival date. She was always very timely in responding.
Although it appears you are in a thick jungle setting, you are actually in a neighborhood with all the usual noises (people, dogs, traffic noise, etc.) as well as the normal Coqui frogs & the roosters, Ha Ha!
However, Kathleen provides earplugs to help at night. Despite all these things we slept pretty well.
Outdoor shower is fun, we had to time our showers around the morning and evening mosquitoes, same goes for the use of the small 2 person spa. Good news was the small green geckos are great mosquito eaters and fun to watch.
We enjoyed the fresh fruit available from the property, especially the apple-bananas & papayas!
This a basically a ground level screened in patio with lovely gardens & ocean views, NO WINDOWS to open or close, so be prepared to deal with heat & humidity! Obviously the time of year will determine heat & humidity levels.
Fans were available and helped a little, but breeze is on and off, a ceiling fan(s) would have been great, especially overnight.
We stayed 12 nights, cooking full meals about 80% of the time and my wife found the kitchen to be adequately equipped.
Wonderful location very near Painted Church, City of Refuge historic site & "Two step" snorkeling area also for less crowded beaches try nearby Ho'okena Beach & Manini Beach park. Be sure to stop by "Joe's Nuts" for the best macadamia nuts on the island!

Our Staycation
We call this our staycation because, living on the Hilo side of the island, the Captain Cook side is so different, who needs to get on a plane to have a vacation? Kathy's tropical hideaway was what we needed. She was there to greet us and during our stay, was pleasant in responding to our questions. Location was perfect to explore the area and the places to eat; great food. We have already recommended this place to our doctor and she is loving what we submitted. Mahalo Kathy......(we have the projection lights ordered; great touch) Aloha, Michael and Ron of Phaoa

2nd stay @ Tropical Hideaway
This is a great property for exploring Honaunau Napoopoo & south Kona area. Tropical Hideaway is better than glamping. The outdoor shower is awesome & the hot tub is a super welcomed plus. This was our 2nd stay & we'll for sure be back for a 3rd.

Great 3 Day Getaway!
We, wife and I, enjoyed our 3 day stay. It was private and in a the quaint town of Honaunau-Napoopoo. The studio has all you need as far as kitchen facilities. The private outdoor shower and hot tub is a nice feature and you can eat inside or on the patio. There is a gas grill, snorkel equipment, etc. Near Hookena Beach Park and 2 Step. Kathy is a delightful host and does not bother you. But she is avaiable if needed. Would definitely stay there again.

Charming place
We had a very nice stay. Kathleen assures your comfort. Best described as “rustic Hawaiian”, the entire place is screened so you feel like you are outdoors. The coqui frogs are loud in the evening but we slept well the entire week. The outdoor shower is great. The location is prime, although a car is necessary. Great hiking, snorkeling and many coffee farms nearby. Highly recommend.

Open air adventure
Very well appointed accommodations with all you will need to prepare nice meals during your stay. The full size BBQ was a plus!
Lots of information provided for things to see and do. Kathy is very accommodating and a wealth of information.
Being that the space is open air, with only screens blocking the outside, be prepared for noise. Roosters, traffic and dogs are easily heard but Kathy supplies ear plugs that will block them out.
This location is great for close access to the best snorkeling sight on the island!

Peaceful Relaxing and Great Location
Very nice hideaway in abeautiful setting. Very private. We loved watching the sunset through the palm trees and laying in bed looking at the ocean. Fresh fruit was a plus as was the pool and hot tub. Kathleen provides lots of extras to make your stay comfortable. Close to lots of beaches, snorkeling, hiking and other sites to see. If we get back to the big island we’d enjoy staying here again.

A fun and enjoyable stay on the Kona coast
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Tropical Hideaway. Great location on the Kona coast and within hiking distance of the best snorkelling on the island. The painted Church, which is only a few hundred meters away, is also truly lovely and inspiring. Great spot for a couple wanting to get away from it all.

Just as described, great location, privacy and a great host
My daughter and I stayed 4 nights and enjoyed the open air studio and hot tube. We snorkeled everyday at the near by beaches and never had the chance to use the very clean salt water pool. Kathy is the perfect host providing fresh organic fruit grown on site and great local information.
The only reason for not giving it a 5 star rating is due to a sleepless night due to dripping on the lanai’s roof due to the lack of gutters on the main roof. This only occurred after a rainy day. I tried ear plugs but the non-consistent drips were amplified by the nights stillness.
Thanks for the hospitality and fond memories!

(Truly, a) Tropical Hideaway
"Tropical Hideaway" says it all. Your own Jacuzzi, view of the ocean, very private and a super comfy bed.
It is minutes away from one of the best snorkeling locations in all of Hawai'i ("Two-Step"), not just the Big Island. My wife and I enjoyed 10 awesome days here. Kathy, the owner, is very helpful and makes it a point to explain that your privacy will be respected and maintained (and it was!).
The entire property is quite lush, and we always felt very safe and secure during out stay.

Romantic Outdoor Oasis
My husband and I spent three nights at Tropical Hideaway at the beginning of our trip to the big island. When we arrived late in the evening, we were greeted by Kathleen, the owner, and she graciously showed us around the property. The place was extremely well stocked and even had baskets of fresh fruit from the property that we could eat. We LOVED the private hot tub. There is also something so refreshing about showering outside (though the spiders outdoors made quick webs so we had to clear a path almost every time we went to shower). The screen walls allowed a wonderful breeze to blow through the house and the foliage around the house provided enough privacy so walls really weren’t necessary, plus you get a nice view of the trees and a small ocean view to boot. The inside of the house was very clean with only the occasional earwig or two. If you’re alright with a little spiderweb clearing and a more “outdoor” experience, you’ll love Tropical Hideaway!

The owner is very welcoming. The place is rustic, but it also has all the amenities for self sufficient stay. The private hot tub, with the fact for healthy choices when it comes to sanitation was a huge plus. The fresh fruit from the garden, the private swimming pool, all the swim and beach gear that was provided, and on and on i could go. One of my best stay ever. Thank you so much!:)

What a unique place that we loved! Being all screened in, you can really take in the Hawaii air and sounds (bring earplugs, the critters outside are very loud). The private outside area and shower are surrounded by trees, plants, and flowers-so beautiful. I enjoyed watching the sun go down as I took a shower! The space was comfortable, and it was nice having netflix to relax to before bed. Two Step was so great for snorkeling and its so close to the hideaway-highly recommend!

If you are looking for an escape into a tropical paradise then this is the place for you. Away from the hustle and bustle we found ourselves enveloped in the wonderful sights, sounds and scents of what felt like the real Hawaii. We were warmly welcomed by our hostess Kathy who was very attentive to answer any questions but was completely respective of our privacy. It really felt like we had the place to ourselves even though she and her gardener Ivy live on the property. We particularly enjoyed our outdoor shower, the private spa, the sounds of the forest at night and the wonderful pool converted from an old cistern. Thank you so much for a memorable stay. The Tropical Hideaway was a wonderful break from the real world. It is south of Kona in a quiet area. You are very close to beautiful snorkeling.
The outdoor shower and hot tub are a welcome addition after a day out exploring the island. Three of the walls are entire screens so you get plenty of tropical breezes. There are also adorable lizards all over.
Kathleen was wonderful. The property was clean and well maintained. She also supplies beach towels, snorkel gear, and beach chairs. She is very accommodating.

All the makings of home. Plus, privacy and hot tub a view to die for. Snorkeling close, eateries close, fruit stand just beyond 160 on 11 is wonderful, their smoothies are top notch. Had a wonderful time. Ivy is a gem.

This was a perfect space for a relaxing vacation. I stayed for six nights, and could have stayed longer. Five to ten minute drive to three of the best beaches south of Kona. The space is charming, cozy and comfortable. The bedroom/living room has screens for walls, so it's like sleeping outside and camping, but in a comfy bed and a view of the ocean. The outdoor shower has a great view of sunsets, and the hot tub makes for a relaxing nightcap. Full kitchen facilities too. Kathy took me on a swim with the dolphins, which was wonderful, and she and groundskeeper Ivy were very responsive to questions.
5.0 / 5.0
This was a great place. Kathy was very kind and gave us our privacy. Ivy also lives on the property (within hearing range) and we would run into her leaving for the day. This was helpful because she would give us her advice before we made the tourist mistakes otherwise. They ask to keep it quiet passed 10pm and we flirted with that one night being on our honeymoon and all, needless to say, if you want to stay up and enjoy the night life I'd experience that in town before you get back to the hide away. Sleeping at night was not near as worrisome as I thought. The breeze made up for it and we were comfortable with the noise of the night wildlife. Kathy has a couple of cats that roam around and they woke me up a few times crashing on things and meowing in the middle of the night but not a big deal. Kathy prefers to recycle, which is a beautiful thing, but if your are not use to it it gets confusing lol. Overall, it was clean, comfortable, peaceful, and equipt with items we definitely used. We absolutely loved the shower, magical little addition. We didn't get to take advantage of the pool although it looked pretty lovely. Kathy has a music player doc and Netflix for those interested. Also, I wouldn't worry about bringing a 'big island' book for touring the area. Kathy has a book that was way helpful!
We would definitely come back!

We really had a good time here. The property is away from the crowds. It has gardens, a hot tub and use of a little salt water pool. Our yard had a Buddha and visiting pet cats. The rental is open air with screens, which was neat. Kathy and Ivy are so helpful and nice. We enjoyed the papaya every morning. We took a walk to the Painted Church most days which was neat. Snorkling is nearby. We did lots of treks on the west side. We enjoyed visiting Pu'uhonua o Honaunau, a national historical park, going to Polulu Valley hiking, (a suggestion from Ivy), hitting a brewhaus in Waimea, etc.

I stayed here with my 16 y.o. niece and we both loved this rental; we are already talking about renting it again next time. It is really as wonderful as it appears. The landscaping is exquisite. The fruit (papayas and bananas when we were there) was plentiful and accessible. The hot tub was private and easy to use. The pool - although shared - was secluded and had great views of the ocean; while the pool was small, it was 10 feet deep and got good afternoon sun; we loved cooling off there after our day's adventures and we never encountered anyone else using it when we were there. Best of all, it really is only 5 minutes to the wonderful snorkeling at Two Step. (Secret tip: you can park at Place of Refuge for $5 and it is good all week if you save the receipt; but for my early morning snorkels it was easy to park right on the road next to Two Step). For those who like hiking, there were interesting hikes leading both north and south from Two Step along the coast.
The cottage itself is designed well. We had the futon made up and it was a comfortable full bed. There was still a space the size of a full mattress in between the beds. A wall separates the kitchen from bed, which made for more privacy. I could wake up early, turn on the chili lights in the kitchen, make up a cup of coffee in the 4-cup coffee pot and slip down to Two Step without the teenager ever waking up. With screens all around there were nice breezes and at sunset we could stop our card game to watch the sunset right from inside the cottage. The wi-fi worked well as did Netflix. And finally - although warned about Dengue Fever - I never encountered a mosquito the entire time there. It is a great place to stay away from the hustle and bustle.
