About this house rental
Welcome to 3 Monkeys at Bald Head Island! This renovated oceanfront second row home (there are no homes on our front row!) enjoys views of Bald Head's beautiful South Beach dunes and ocean from its spacious, open living areas and each of its four bedrooms. Our central location on one of the best swimming beaches of the island means you are not far from anything. We have memberships to both the Bald Head Island Club (full golf membership) and the Shoals Club, which are options for our guests for a temporary membership fee paid to each club. We keep our home well stocked so you can pack lightly (beach towels, paper products, soaps, detergents, kitchen wraps and travel sized soap/shampoo/conditioner are all there for you).
Walk, ride a bike or take a short golf cart ride to the Bald Head Island Club where golf, tennis, pool, workout facility, playground and restaurants await you with an optional temporary full golf membership. Bike or cart easily to the Market for groceries or a quick bite at their café then browse the Maritime shops. Continue across the island to explore the beautiful maritime forest trails along Federal Road. We are an easy golf cart or bike ride back to the marina for dinner or ice cream or to climb Old Baldy. Cart or bike over to East Beach to take in the tall dunes, natural seagrasses and Frying Pan Shoals. We have a new 4 seater golf cart and a new 6 seater golf cart for your use.
The L shaped open kitchen to dining to living area floorplan is washed with natural light from a beachfront wall of glass doors and windows. The well stocked kitchen has granite countertops, tiled backsplash and stainless steel appliances, not to mention an abundance of serving pieces and cook’s tools. Our farm table seats 8 with space for another 4 at the bar. A lovely porch with dining for another 4 circles two sides of the house and extends to a front deck equipped with built in gas grill. The living area is tastefully decorated with plenty of comfortable seating. Enjoy napping in the hammock or rocking on the porch while the kids ride bikes around our cul de sac. We have a few various sized bikes for your use in exploring the island and additional bikes are easily rented on the island.
Each bedroom opens to a porch or private deck from which you may listen to the waves of South Beach lap onto shore, enjoy a relaxing chair and your favorite book, or just watch the sunset -- one of the only places on the East Coast where you can actually watch the sunset over the ocean most of the year! If for some reason the wonders of exploring the island are not enough entertainment, there are flat screen tvs in the living area and each bedroom. The downstairs king master suite includes a luxurious bathroom with standalone soaking tub and large dual head rain shower. The beachfront screened porch is accessible from this bedroom (and from the living area) -- a fantastic place to have your morning coffee! Upstairs you will find a second king room with ensuite bath, toddler bed, private deck and incredible ocean view. Opposite is the queen room also with a lovely oceanfront deck and desk. In the bunk/bonus room you will find an amazing ocean view from the glass doors and windows stretching up to the vaulted ceiling and opening to a large deck. Double sets of bunks, a pullout couch(double) and pullout chair (single) provide sleeping for up to 7 in this room with pocket doors to close it off from the hallway as a bedroom. Comfortable leather seating and an entertainment center with games, toys, books and videos are useful when you need downtime indoors.
For us, time spent at 3 Monkeys at Bald Head Island is all about quality time with family and friends: time spent relaxing, exploring, exercising, swimming, playing, cooking, reading and talking...together. We have endeavored to make 3 Monkeys feel luxurious but not fragile, well equipped but not cluttered, coastal but not overdone, clean and comfortable with all of the amenities, supplies and toys you need to enjoy the most from your vacation here. You will find beach chairs, umbrellas, sand toys, even golf clubs neatly organized in the garage for your use. So, leave your vehicle in Southport and embrace life on the island, exploring by golf cart, bicycle or your own two feet. Kids of all ages will soon ditch the electronics for all the wonders of the island: the beach, the maritime forest trails, the Conservancy Center, the lighthouse, the marsh boardwalks and countless other outdoor attractions. This house made our first experience on BHI unforgettable. The beautiful updates and gorgeous beach views were a major highlight of the house. Our kids loved the upstairs bunk bed room and enjoyed their own space. The owner, Kristin, was super helpful and easy to be in touch with which was great because we knew nothing about the island. The house comes with 2 golf carts, all the beach stuff you need, bikes etc that also made packing much easier for our family of 5. We highly recommend this home to any other beach lovers like ourselves! Family core memories were made here for sure. We will be back!!

We were looking for a nice place on the beach to kickoff summer break and this was definitely it. This was our first time to the island so we really didn’t know what to expect. We had such a great time. Three Monkeys is located directly across from a beach access point which was so convenient. Kristin also had several items in the garage such as beach chairs and buckets for the kids that came in handy.
Kristin promptly answered all of our questions ahead of time. We had a couple of questions when we checked in and she immediately responded. The house is very well stocked with essentials such as paper products as well as pots/pans for cooking. We cooked several of our meals and didn’t have to worry about not having a pan or utensil.
We really enjoyed our getaway and look forward to returning again in the future. Thank you for sharing your home!

My family of seven adults came down this year in September, later than our normal summer vacation, and couldn’t have been happier! The weather was stunning and this home was perfectly situated for us to each have our own space. It was ideally located for enjoying beautiful sunsets off of South Beach. Wonderfully appointed and comfortable, with plenty of beach chairs and towels and super fast carts! We’re really looking forward to next year!

This is a beautiful property and we enjoyed it from beginning to end. All of the furniture was comfortable and in great shape. The beds were extremely comfortable. Having a balcony off of every bedroom was really a nice feature. Lots of owner’s toys hanging around in the garage for use on the beach. That was nice. Golf carts were in great shape, and we made good use of those. The Country Club facilities are very nice. Felt a little bit like second class members but I guess that's in fact what we were. Thanks for being such great hosts!

This was our first visit to BHI and we couldn’t have been more pleased with our choice to stay at Three Monkeys. The house layout was perfect and beautifully decorated. The sunrises & sunsets were gorgeous from the many balconies/porches. We loved the screened in porch & covered porch areas where we could be out of the sun part of the time but still hear the ocean waves. Kristin was great to work with and always helpful and quick to respond. We loved everything about the Island…beach, restaurants, spa, marina area, lighthouse etc. The house & location were just what we needed to relax and catch up. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home!

From the well stocked paper products to the awesome location, 3 Monkeys was the perfect place for our vacation with our adult children and our first grandchild. We look forward to coming back as our family continues to grow, with plenty of room for everyone (didn’t even use the amazing bunk room!). Thank you to our hosts for sharing their special home!

Such a lovely property on the best beach ever! Three couples spent a fabulous week at 3 Monkeys and all agreed that it was the best beach house we’ve stayed in… and we have stayed in tons! Perfectly appointed and decorated, with tons of space, bikes, fast carts and tons of chairs that worked! We even rode out a hurricane and it was great. We will be back!!

Three Monkeys is a well equipped and beautifully decorated home with high quality linens and comfortable beds! The well-equipped kitchen was greatly appreciated! We were pleasantly surprised at the easy beach access and the great porches and balconies. The golf carts were high quality and comfortable and our grandkids enjoyed the bikes and beach toys!

Our stay was perfect from the early stages of thought process to seeing our first sunset. The home had unbelievable views from every window and deck. There was beauty all around and from the wind in our hair and the sun kissing our face, our trip was a miracle. Kristin was wonderful and the home perfect. Would definitely book again. 5 star all the way.

3 Monkeys was a lovely property. The bathrooms and kitchen have been recently renovated and the layout of the house is terrific with beautiful views upstairs. The outdoor space is terrific with numerous covered areas and a screened porch so that you could be outside but in the shade. The golf carts were new which is always nice. We had two teenagers with us but it looked like there was plenty of bikes, booster chairs and such for families with smaller kids. Kristen the host was fabulous to work with and always very responsive. It was also wonderful that she had a great stock of napkins, dishwashing detergent, soap, etc. so we didn't have to buy all of that. The location of the house was a 30 second walk to the beach access and as close as you can get without being the house directly across from the access. We would also highly recommend Cape Fear Boil Company - they bring everything and even bag up the leftovers and take the trash away. We watched the sunset and then came up and enjoyed our food. Highly recommend this home for a wonderful vacation on BHI.

BHI is a memorable island and 3 Monkeys served as our home base for exploration.
Despite experiencing the worst of possible August weather patterns we all had a memorable time and will return next year.
The house was great and as advertised.

A fantastic house across the street from the beach. Not only is the home beautiful and in the perfect central location, but it also is stocked with everything you need. Beach chairs, towels, kitchen gear, bikes, gold clubs ... even paper goods and laundry detergent!
All the bathrooms have been recently redone, and the golf carts are in excellent shape! Wonderful home on a beautiful part of the island.

Very lovely home with everything we needed! Great location on the island. Beach is absolutely beautiful and very wide. We enjoyed sunrise and sunset walks on the beach nearly every day. Wonderful week creating memories with grandparents and cousins that we will always cherish. Kristin made it quite easy, thank you for sharing your home!

Bald Head is my happy place and 3 Monkeys made my stay even better. The house has spectacular views of the dunes and beach from the entire front side on both floors with an amazing porch that wraps around to the side that includes a table, hammock, and rocking chairs. 3 Monkeys in also in the perfect location on the island towards the middle so you are close to everything. The owner is fantastic to work with and the house is well appointed. I'll be returning!!

If we could give 6 stars we would. This is a wonderful property that is incredibly maintained and steps from the beach. The home is thoughtfully designed that will immediately put you in "vacation mode" the moment you walk in the door. The layout was perfect for our large families with the bunk space upstairs that served as a great kid retreat. Views from all the balconies were incredible and amazing for watching the sunset. As far as location, you really can't get much better being on the beach yet a quick golf cart ride to both the island clubs. Everything you need for a beach vacation has been thought of and is available. Just pack a bag and show up...
What really set this trip apart from others for us was the owner Kristin. She defines what hospitality should look like and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. It was clear to our family, that she really cared about our experience and takes pride in her home. We can't wait to come back to BHI and when we do we will be staying at 3 Monkeys!!

We had the best time at Bald Head! So relaxing and absolutely beautiful. Exactly what we needed after this year of challenges. The house was perfect for our family, and Kristin could not have been nicer. The house was beautifully decorated, clean, so well stocked, and the layout was great. We had a truly amazing time at 3 monkeys. The house is perfect! Wonderfully decorated. Rooms each have their own porches. Wave sounds put you to sleep and wake you up. Beach is maybe 100 steps away. Kristen is the definition of a perfect host.

We had a great week at three monkeys! The home is lovely and equipped with everything you need. New golf carts, lots of bikes, and Beach chairs galore! The views are great and the house is a short distance to BHI club and the market. We have been going to bald head for over 20 years and this house was one of our favorites. Kristin , the owner, was a pleasure to deal with and she responded immediately to any questions. The only downside was the construction occurring on both sides of the house. It did not bother us too much as we were out early for golf and tennis each day and then the beach. The good news is this is temporary and the quiet will return soon!

7 night stay for large multigenerational family including a toddler. Could easily work for multiple families with multiple kids. Really nice location that fits all the needs. We’ve stayed all over the island in previous years. Will definitely be looking at a repeat visit here. The owners are island experts, so they serve as an excellent resource for any questions especially for newcomers thinking of renting. Easy choice here...suspect it books up well in advance.
