Cigarettes butts outside front door. Cobwebs throughout. Pizza boxes and trash awaited our arrival. Rat feces at one door. Dirty carpet and smelly couch. We were scheduled to stay for 4 nights and left after one.

We came for a relaxing bachelorette weekend for my sister. The house was perfect for our needs and the private dock to swim off was great! The lake is closer than it looks in the pictures of the home which was a great surprise. We had a great time in this rustic cabin! Would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend at the lake!

Great location, lakefront with private dock. Carpet in bedroom should be removed. Plenty of stains. Better lighting inside would be helpful. Bedrooms very dark with lamps provided.

After reading some bad reviews about this place we were a little worried but I’m happy to say we were pleasantly surprised when we got there. What a cool old house this is! We found it to be very clean, plenty of room, and a great spot on the lake. They should update their photos of the master bedroom and the bathroom connected to it. There’s beautiful hardwood floor in the bedroom, and the bathroom is completely remodeled. The house is old and not everything is in perfect condition, but that’s what gives it its charm. The dock could use some work, but it was still fine for keeping are boat at. The location on the lake may be the best we have ever stayed at. If you’re looking for a five star resort, this may not be the place for you. However if you’re looking for a charming home with plenty of room inside and out and on one of the best spots on the lake, Great Escape is worth looking into. We will definitely be considering it for a future trip to Deep Creek.

This rental is in CRITICAL need of help - the microwave was melted and unusable and there is black mold on the kitchen countertops - both are significant safety hazards that were not addressed. The furniture (couch, chairs and beds) are ALL EXTEMELY uncomfortable and need immediately replaced. This place is in a FABULOUS location but needs soooooooooooooo much TLC.

The house was full of charm and very relaxing. Could use a good deep clean and new living room furniture. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and had a quiet relaxing weekend with friends.

House was dirty and there was mouse crap all over the house and even had a mouse run by my foot while I was in the bathroom. Had rolls on the counter and the mice ate them so had to leave the food out in the truck. Called to complain and they only refunded us the cleaning fee for our inconvenience. We would not recommend this property if you are concerned with a clean dust free house and even sent countless pictures to the rental company

We went to this cabin/house as a retreat just to relax and read. We got to do that! The house is as pictured but with a few cobwebs around and the windows are in desperate need of washing (so as not to obstruct the view). The big bedroom was a little cold compared to the rest of the house. The fireplace in the living room was a bonus as we like a "live" fire. Firewood was easy to obtain in the area. Overall, we my wife and I had a good, relaxing time. Would go back to this place again.

Cabin was a bit outdated but I think that's what gives it its charm. It reminded us of a small fairytale cottage. The kitchen specifially called to the inner witch in me. We will definately be making use of this cabin again next fall. I can just imagine how cozy it would be when it snows.

Wild life all around, nice view of the lake and close to several towns. The fall foliage was outstanding. What attracted me to the property was the architecture of the dwelling. I was involved in construction my entire life and now retired. Enjoying this beautiful structure was fun and relaxing. Very interesting build. The home is in need of TLC but what a great cabin it all started with. Thanks

nice location, beautiful views. Loved the quirky log cabin feel but the place has not been looked after for many years. Sheets, towels and beds were clean but the rest of the place had a fair layer of dust and grim. Kitchen was adequately stocked but pots, pans and utensils are old, broken and mismatched. Refrigerator constantly leaked all over the kitchen floor. Tried to use the gas grill and it was so rotten the bottom feel out almost starting a fire on the porch. Dim lighting and missing lightbulbs. Mold and mildew in the shower. A/C is inoperable and looks like it has been for awhile. With all that being said, if some one put $30,000 in to upkeep/remodeling, I would stay there again. I guess you get what you pay for

It was a nice rustic feel. Great to be on the water!

Quaint, cozy log cabin directly on the cove. Amazing views and water access. Floating dock was going back in the water as we were leaving on 4/10/23. Cabin is very welcoming with charm galore. Showing its age a bit with some soft spots in the floor of the master bath and some other deferred maintenance evident. All in all, a great place to spend some downtime at the lake.

This was an amazing cabin on a great cove . We loved our quiet winter stay and had the fire roaring the whole time. It can use a lot of fixes or updates needed. The roof leaked on the living room couch during a rain storm and also in our shower. The dishwasher and oven weren’t working 100%. The inside grill and ice machine don’t work. The master bedroom rug could use changing as it has stains everywhere and the couch in the living room is old and sinks in. Lots of the outlets don’t work and there was mouse poop on the mantle. The flu in the fireplace doesn’t close but that didn’t affect anything. These are all minor fixes and didn’t affect the fun we had. It could use an actual fire pit but that’s just preference. Just suggestions roof leaking and appliances most immediate just might be helpful. Really did love our stay though. Such a great log cabin with perfect area on lake

The scenery was breathtaking. We caught 3 perch off the dock. The cabin with its wooden beams was beautiful. The couch was a good size just needs replaced. The hot water was great. I think all the bedding and blankets and pillows need replaced. This cabin has so much potential if things were updated and replaced. Thank you for lending us your home we had a great weekend. One more thing I didn’t see mice but I did see their droppings.

The house had such potential but needs new carpet and several repairs. We had hot water only for 1 shower, no ice, and calls for assistance were met with sympathy. Such a disappointment.

The location is really amazing, house is as pictured in the photos. It is very charming but very dated. Unfortunately we did not sleep in the master bedroom (green carpeted room) because the urine smell was overpowering. This house is beyond charming but really needs to be decluttered and new light bulbs put in the various lamps.

I loved having family together. Walking the road and down by the lake was enjoyable. Although the house seemed clean after further inspection it really wasn’t. I think one should always leave a place a little better than they find it. Previous renters obviously didn’t wash dishes. Hopefully management will give this place a deep clean. They seemed accommodating when I complained. This house is dated, quirky but quaint.

Great location! Lakefront...beautiful views. Comfortable large cabin with 2 fireplaces. During our stay I needed to call the management to fix the furnace. HVAC repairman responded in less than an hour and fixed the heat in a few hours. Kitchen lacks a proper set of usable pots and pans. Some kitchen chairs had nails sticking out of them. In general cabin with a small investment could be a top notch rental.

Had a few issues initially with the hot water tank and heat, but the GM (Rich I believe) of Vacasa was very helpful, fixed the problem and worked with us to make sure our experience was still a memorable one (my wife and I booked this place for a very small wedding ceremony). It meant a lot to us and our family that he cared and worked the way he did to rectify the issues we were having. The house itself is beautiful and has a near perfect view of the lake. If the company does a few simple updates (the couch and carpets are far past their primes and the bathtub in the master bedroom wouldn't hold water) my family would definately stay there again, as the overall makeup of the place was just what we were looking for!

We loved this semi-secluded, lake front house. It had so much historical charm, with stone walls, high ceilings, wooden beams, and large windows and doors. You don’t need AC, because the house was built to allow air flow and a wonderful cross-breeze. Also, the dock was great. We could dock boats right in front of the house, and take our canoe out easily. The house was well-equipped with everything you need. My only minor suggestions would be a little TLC to the master bath and the draining systems. The showers were a little clogged before we even showered. Also, squirrels or chipmunks chew holes in the kitchen , and steal food. We found one of our grilling seasonings out front, as well as a few things nibbled into. As long as you store bread and other items in the pantry, fridge, or on top of the fridge, you’re fine. These are minor things, and didn’t change how much we love and enjoyed the house. The deer family that lives in the woods next door became our friends, which was so cool. We loved this place so much we are already thinking of planning another trip back next summer.

Character over cleanliness.
Character if the home was great - yard to the dock great, home in a perfect location, BUT LOTS of cobwebs, MBA flooring caving in, MBA wallpaper pealing, carpet stains everywhere, bathroom caulking pealing, scummy, yard work definitely needed. We arrived and there were candy wrappers in the yard and even a bucket of dog poop on the deck and no propane for us to grill.
This place has so much potential and needs some serious TLC! I would also NOT recommend dealing with the property mgmt company-Vacasa. And for all the reasons above, I will NOT rent a home in the future managed by Vacasa.
Sorry for this review VRBO, but I tried to give an honest evaluation.

2nd year back
Another great Mother’s Day weekend spent here. Love how it’s quiet and almost nobody around at all. Although it rained the majority of our trip it was still very relaxing . We were able to use the grill 3 out of the 4 days. The dog loved the yard. Only thing was the grass was very long. Maybe just cut a couple days prior to guests? We will come back!

Location and Character but needs some TLC
Great Escape location on the water was great and the house has such character and all. Just needs someone to fix up peeling wall paper and better organize the kitchen. Things were stuffed all over the placeand some pots and pans were no longer usable.

This place is wonderful! It took me a little while to get used to using VRBO, but other than that the experience was excellent. The property was clean, looked as described, and was a great fit. Would reccomend!

Quaint old house, beautiful views of the lake
The house has a great location - true lakefront (most in the neighborhood are across the street from the lake). Master bedroom is quite large, Kitchen is reasonably sized and outfitted with enough pots/pans/etc. if you want to cook a substantial meal. House is close to the town of Deep Creek Lake, and a short drive south to the cute town of Oakland.

Great cabin for a relaxing gaming weekend.
Overall we had a great time. The double fireplaces was a fantastic touch. We like to play games and that made both rooms feel cozy. We could have one room with video games going and the other with board games and everyone was comfortable. Having to supply our own wood was easy enough, just made packing more of a challenge. The cabin was in general pretty clean. The only things we washed before using was the dishes and cookware, but I am inclined to do that in a rental anyways. The beds upstairs could use new mattresses and the space heater in the master bedroom could be replaced. The view was amazing. The water was so close and I imagine in the summer being right there and using the outdoor fire place would be very nice. We would definitely return.

Fairy Tale Getaway
You will not need breadcrumbs to find your way to this delightful cottage tucked away on Deep Creek Lake! Breath-taking views abound with peak fall colors on the grounds that include an inviting small beach area and dock--perfect for kayaking! The inside of the cottage is inviting and quaint with furnishings to match. The fairy tale experience one feels when entering the cozy entryway door and kitchen area with stone and wood floors, rustic primitive decor, gorgeous fireplaces, period hardware inside and out, and perfect cottage colors makes one feel that they have stepped back into a more relaxed, quiet and peaceful time long ago. Our stay was one of recharging and relaxing with family. It was a perfect weekend, even though we did not get a glimpse of any of the many fairy tale characters one would imagine living here in our memories of reading delightful children's books as a child. :)

Don't stay here if you want a nice vacation rental.
We have stayed in a lot of VACASA homes and we have never given a one star review, but this is well deserving. While Great Escape has a very nice level yard and rustic cabin atmosphere, the home is not maintained and the furniture and household items were the lowest quality available. The owners do not put any money into this place. When something breaks, such as the A/C unit or ice maker, the home owners don't fix it. The carpets are probaby 30 years old soaked with stains and were just disgusting. The sofa also had stains all over and never been cleaned. The house has not been painted in 20+ years and there were holes in the walls and other drywall patches that were never painted over. In the kitchen, the butcher block counter had black mold, the dishes were very old and chipped, there were no actual drinking glasses but a mishmash of old plastic cups with stress crazing, no large mixing bowls - we had to make our pancake mix in a pot. In the bedrooms, you can feel the springs in the mattresses, bedding and draperies were probably 40 years old, one TV was a CRT and the other was a small LCD and the wallpaper was peeling off the walls in both baths. The dock was lopsided, rotting and unstable. It actually collapsed about 6 inches while we sat on it. If you want a well appointed and equipped home on the lake, stay away from Great Escape.

Very Quaint
This cabin is very quaint and rustic, very much a lakeside cabin. While it is layed out a bit odd, and dark inside, it was a pleasant stay. The cove and lake access were spectacular! The carpets in the bedrooms, however, are horrible and should be replaced.

A diamond in the ruff
This is such a quaint little house with an amazing location on the lake. It has such potential to be an idyllic lake getaway if only some love was given to it. Downstairs beds were super comfy, but stained carpets, old furniture, dirty windows and things that were broken (a/c, ice maker, etc.) made it less than ideal.

Great location
We loved the location. Plenty of lawn to play with kids and great for kayaking. The house was ok but only one TV worked and limited channels. That would have been an issue if the weather would have been bad. Also house was dark needed better lighting. Would definitely book again if more TV channels.
