About this house rental
Our 1,400 sq.ft. 1 bedroom Casita is located on our private 2 1/2 acre pristine Sonoran Desert property - a truly unofficial Nature Conservancy. Come take a tour:
ENTER OUR 2 1/2 ACRE PROPERTY: Our private driveway between large desert trees & Saguaro, past a red split-rail western fence on the right and our "corral--type" metal gate, as you drive over the red-rock gravel area you are facing the west side of the Casita.
Casita has a 1 car garage and large open area parking. From outside the garage, walking to the right under the arch you walk alongside the garage wall (covered with lush green plants growing to its roof-line) and have your first look to the west at our full Sonoran Desert. Past the garage, to the left, you enter through the two low Mexican wooden gates onto the north portion of our three sided private Casita patio.
THE PATIO: The extra-wide patios "wraps-around" on three sides of the Casita. Each side has at least one table and plenty of comfortable chairs.
You entered into the north patio; if you "turn-around" and look over our property to the north, you can see our home, and in the distance you can see Lone Mountain with its hiking trails. To your right your are looking at our western desert, part of our large corral and will see the sun setting over California. The southern patio overlooks our southern property and leads to a large private enclosed cactus garden (with prime desert cactus specimens and its own seating areas). Adjacent and to the southwest is our small "Studio" building (available as a separate Casita extension "guest quarters" with a full kitchen, bathroom, walk-in closet etc.)
ENTERING THE CASITA ITSELF: In the middle of the west patio is the entrance to the Casita living quarters. Through large double-glass sliding doors you enter into the west "wing" of the "L-shaped" carpeted living room. There are large sliding glass "picture" windows throughout the living room's "outer walls."
In the far right corner is a large comfortable chair and ottoman; with book shelves, books and an audio system. Under one set of large windows is a "day-bed", the top doubling as another "couch" or bed (twin mattresses - the bottom one is a hidden twin that can be pulled-out and raised. This side of the "L" wing has an antique western desk with wired & wireless internet modem, art work and bookshelves, leading to the bedroom door.
Throughout the entire carpeted living room are ceiling fans, real-wood ceiling vegas, colorful art-work and recessed ceiling lights.
LOOKING TO THE LEFT WING in the corner where the two living room "wings" meet is a wood burning fireplace, large wood vega mantle, in front of which are two comfortable chairs with small tables and lamps; double glass sliding windows look out over the north and west patios showing beautiful desert views.
Beyond this "corner area" are two couches with a large glass table facing across to a literal wall of recessed book-shelves. This includes a flat-screen television with Direct TV and HBO. Numerous books from our private collection featuring a great variety of topics. There are also cassette, DVD films & CD music disks available. There are also local maps, menus and other related materials for local and state-wide traveling information.
FULL ELECTRIC KITCHEN: Now walk into our open space dining area and into a large open 3 sided kitchen with lots of appliances and a double window over the sink (facing the east); the kitchen plenty of recessed ceiling lights and a ceiling fan. The electric kitchen (save on restaurant costs) has a 4 burner stove top, oven and built-in microwave; dishwasher; lots of pots and pans, glasses (wine, water etc.), dishes, "silverware", double kitchen sinks, garbage disposal and reverse osmosis water dispenser; large refrigerator with ice & water dispensers (both using reverse osmosis water) with an adjacent large floor-to-ceiling well-stocked walk-in pantry.
THE BATHROOM: Walking out-of the open kitchen, past the hall closet, into the well-lit bathroom with high clerestory windows for daytime light; two sinks and corner Jacuzzi bathtub; including a separate large walk-in tiled shower with tile seat, and a private lavatory with sliding "vest-pocket door" for privacy. The shower and lavatory have safety rails. There is also a "hidden" wall iron and ironing board. Behind two "shutter" doors is your private washer/dryer. There is also a "linen closet" with extra towels, sheets, etc.
CARPETED WALK-IN CLOSET entered through the opposite corner of the bathroom, it features a series of long wood rods for hanging clothing, plus a hotel-type luggage rack and extra shelves with numerous additional blankets, pillows etc., above and beyond those already in on the king-size bed.
THE BEDROOM: enter through the bathroom door or from the living's room "L" wing, you find your King size bed, with
lamps and tables on each side, a ceiling fan with light above, with a second flat screen TV with Direct TV and HBO sitting atop a large chest of drawers, and including a large sliding glass screened picture window looking out into your private cactus garden, and southern desert beyond.

Great property filled with wildlife and beautiful plants. Jerome and Linda were wonderful. We spent many eves feeding the birds and bunnies and chatting. They are my kind of people, caring, kind, warm and made sure I had everything I needed. I had the great luck to watch a newborn cardinal in the tree outside the casita being fed by its mom. Spectacular. Very comfortable home, easy access to everything yet far enough away to feel the peace of the area. I highly recommend staying at Jeromes and Linda's. You will come away relaxed, refreshed and feeling really grounded and at peace. Bed really comfortable and A/C was great as it was very hot!!!

Hate to leave!
We spent 6 weeks in Jerome and Linda’s casita. We were in Scottsdale for my husband to undergo treatment for cancer.
The casita was just the right size for us and our two german shepherds. There was also room for our daughter and granddaughter to visit us for the weekend. Jerome and Linda were extremely thoughtful. They checked in to make sure we were ok and had everything we needed. The area is beautiful and close to shopping and hiking. We would definitely stay here again when we’re in Scottsdale.

Spectacular Zen Property and Experience
Jerome and Linda were absolute dreams. Beautiful people with whom we will maintain a relationship for a lifetime. They were extremely accommodating and attentive to our needs. The casita and property was spacious, well maintained, serene, located in beautiful horse country, private and closely located to a plethora of attractions, restaurants, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed out six week stay and would have extended it if there was availability.

From the moment we stepped out of our car, we just knew that it was going to be magical. From meeting Jerome and Linda, to walking on the 3 sided wrap around porch, overlooking the desert, the bird “sanctuary” and the beautiful well thought out morning sun area, we were enthralled with the promise of relaxation. Close to north Scottsdale road and shops, restaurants, and stores, yet far enough away, to not notice, this property is exactly what we had hoped for in southwestern vacation. Numerous trails around the property , wildlife all about, and just the most peaceful, comfortable, well equipped house. The only negative to our stay was that we had to leave. We so look forward to a return visit and to share more time with our hosts.

Excellent Spot and Fabulous Hosts
We stayed for 10 days and enjoyed it all. Jerome and Linda are great hosts. Our dog was welcome. The house is very near Browns Reserve where there is endless single track mountain biking for all levels. A great stay. We will stay again when in the area.

Desert Delight....
The Casita on the Landau's beautiful Sonoran desert property is everything the posting and reviews say it is. The combination of the spacious lodging offered by the Casita itself and the gorgeous setting made for an experience we will always remember. Jerome and Linda were the perfect hosts, meeting us as we arrived and giving us the "cooks" tour. The Casita is fully equipped - we didn't lack for anything during our stay. The neighborhood was scenic and serene, with lots of opportunity for walks and hikes nearby. Or, when so inclined, the veranda was a great spot to sit and read or just admire the desert landscape and sunsets. We don't know what the future holds, but if we travel again to this unique and special part of the world, we would definitely return to the Casita and the Landau's cordial hospitality. . .

Lovely desert retreat
We stayed at the casita January and February 2019. I wholeheartedly agree with all aspects of the many positive reviews and comments that have been made thus far. This is a warm, comfortable "home", very spacious and well-equipped. Everything is so well thought out, you only need to bring your clothes and food. Jerome and Linda are the most gracious hosts; and do everything to make your stay perfect.
The property is expansive with plenty of room to let the dog out, park, and walk around among the desert plants. There is a dead-on sunset view from the living room and also from the terrific wrap around covered porch. I personally loved the large sunny bathroom and walk in closet.
We hope to visit again next year and look forward to seeing Jerome and Linda again.

The casita was beautiful and comfortable. We used the kitchen often and it was well equipped for cooking dinners. Whirlpool tub was quite lovely. Jerome was a generous and gracious host. When a problem emerged, he responded to it very quickly and thoroughly. We will definitely be returning!

A Hidden Treasure in the beautiful Sanoran Dessert
The Casita was lovely in every way. Great Location for restaurants, grocery stores, and other shopping. Large well equipped kitchen, nicely furnished living area, a large beautiful bathroom, the patios on 3 sides with lots of outdoor furniture. The sunsets on the west patio were beautiful, and in the morning the little Quail families, humming birdsand cotton tail rabbits, were within feet of us. It is a beautiful Oasis. So quiet and peaceful we did not go out too much. We cooked all our meals and just enjoyed being there. We took a drive to Globe , a Heritage mining town and the Roosevelt Lake 1/2 hour from Globe. We also drove to Fountain Hills to see the 100 foot fountain that goes up and hour on the hour. Both places are a lovely scenic drive. Most of all , Jerome and Linda were delightful friendly people who respected our privacy. I highly reccommend this Casita. We have stayed in many VRBO all over the world and this was one of the best!!!

Comfortable home in the desert
I've stayed in a lot of vacation rentals and many of them only furnish the house and kitchen with the barest of necessities. Jerome and Linda have provided a property that has most of the comforts of home. It's nice to have a fully stocked kitchen and bathroom and an impressive library. Quiet desert surroundings make this place a gem! Then there's Jerome and Linda; hosts with the most! Though they live on the property they fully respected my privacy. When we had the time to get together, I found their company and conversation to be a plus to my stay. And then there's the outdoor spiral staircase to the roof of their house that they made fully accessible to me to watch the glorious desert sunsets every evening. I can't wait to come back to Phoenix and see them in the future.

A Wonderful Escape
The internet advertisement for the Casita seemed far too good to be true, could such a wonderful sounding place really exist, and what about the terrific reviews left by the past guests? Well .... as we now know, yes, it is all real!
The minute we arrived, Jerome's welcome made us immediately feel at ease and when Linda popped in for a quick chat we felt like we'd already known them for years. Straight away, it was obvious that our time here was going to be rather special. Their warm and sincere welcome was such a wonderful surprise. The peaceful tranquility of the Casita, (a home, not just a vacation rental) and its unspoiled environment so close to the many trails that we hiked, was just perfect. The location was convenient to shopping, dining, and a perfect spot to just explore the surrounding area. The home was clean, had all the supplies to cook if you want, Jerome and Linda were there if you needed them, but was also private and serene. Oh, we also enjoyed your neighbor's menagerie which included a couple of alpacas, a Shetland pony and an entertaining and friendly donkey adding to the very rural atmosphere.
The next time we visit, we'd love to spend more time just chatting with Jerome and Linda as we seemed to click immediately.

Perfect Desert Retreat
My husband and I spent 2 perfectly relaxing weeks at the casita. We were totally comfortable in the spacious and tastefully decorated accommodations that were in the midst of the beautiful desert surroundings. The additions of a garage and washer/dryer were a real "plus." Each morning we experienced the beauty of the desert sunrise from the kitchen window, and each evening the sunsets were magnificent from the lovely wrap-around deck. The casita was located in a quiet, safe, open desert neighborhood that was just begging you to explore it on foot (which we did daily) or bicycle. Many hiking trails, particularly Pinnacle Peak Park, were accessible. The interesting small towns of Carefree and Cave Creek were 10 minutes away - great restaurants, art shows and galleries. Jerome and Linda were perfect hosts living a "stones throw" away - accessible but never intrusive. The welcome basket of fresh fruit was so appreciated and enjoyed! This was a great "getaway" from the Colorado winter temps. We'd return in a heartbeat.

Nice people, great location and a clean modern facitity
The location in North Scottsdale among small horse ranches and open desert is ideal. It is far removed from the congestion and noise of Phoenix, yet near up-scale shopping, unique restaurants and major routes. I valued the proximity to over 100 hiking trails, some quite challenging. The casita itself has all the conveniences and features of any modern home along with privacy and beautiful desert landscaping. The real gem is finding an accomplished, intelligent couple willing to provide instant service for practically any issue. Yup! Linda and Jerome make this an exceptional value for your Phoenix vacation.

Piece do paradise!
We spent a wonderful 6 weeks plus at the casita, it was everything advertised and more! We couldn't have asked for anything better. The house felt very comfortable and welcoming the moment we walked in. We enjoyed the large wrap around patio, sitting in the sun reading or just relaxing, listening to the birds or just enjoying the peace and quiet of the desert. In the evenings we would have "happy hour" and enjoy the sunsets that were beyond beautiful some evenings. The daily walks around the area were wonderful and we looked forward to going out and feeding Kid. We had our dog, Bailey with us and he was as welcomed a guest as we were. Linda and Jerome are wonderful people who love sharing their knowledge and little corner of heaven with people. Thank you for a wonderful time we were sorry to see it end. Warren, Tisha and Bailey.

November getaway
Thank you, Linda and Jerome, for a beautiful and relaxing time at your wonderful casita in the desert! The newly decorated decor is both beautiful and comfortable. November is and awesome month to visit. Every morning we enjoyed our coffee on the wrap around patio while watching birds and other desert animals forage. The sunsets were spectacular. Our late night walks in the safe neighborhood allowed for great star gazing. We love your casita!!!

Peaceful Oasis
Peaceful Oasis Mike and I stayed at this amazing Casita for one week. We entered a world we had never imagined. The pictures are a far cry from the actual beauty of this location. Sunsets in the evening to horses whinnying and the gentle sound of quail in the morning. The location is lovely and the casita is very quaint and comfortable. Jerome and Linda were just a few steps away and glad to share great dining and area activities. This is a “Peaceful Oasis” from the everyday hustle and bustle.

Desert Paradise
The Casita was better than advertised. The place was warm and comfortable. It was both far away and close to everything. Jerome and Linda were very hospitable. The cacti were starting to bloom, the house and the grounds were immaculate. When we come back to Scottsdale, this is where we must stay. Thank you, Jerome and Linda for sharing your beautiful Casita with us!!
