About this house rental
A secluded seaside house, set apart, on the northwestern coast of The Current (a quiet settlement of about 100 people) on North Eleuthera, The Bahamas. The Current is in close proximity to world-renowned Harbour Island.
The main house is well maintained, open, and is of a clean modern architectural design with a comfortable atmosphere. On one side banks of french doors open to long, screened, covered verandahs facing the sea, and on the entrance side to an enclosed garden.
‘Getaway’ comfortably houses 4 people with an open living, dining and kitchen area, one master bedroom and one open loft room.
Interior
The house contains banks of turquoise painted French Doors, opening toward large full length verandahs facing the sea on one side and, the interior gardens and entrance road, on the opposite side. Natural Mexican shellstone tile, stretching from the interior ground floor surfaces to the verandas on both sides of the house, blurs the line between the interior and the exterior. The colour of the Mexican shellstone, similar in hue to the beckoning beach and the sea green hues of the painted wood trim and doors, is simple reflection of the greater surrounding beauty.
An expansive “A” frame roof stretches the full length of the house and provides an open roomy feel to the living room and kitchen. In this living area, comprising half of the floor plan of the house, the full magnitude of the spaciousness is felt. It is here that the interior of the house reaches it’s highest point, at the apex of the beams, some 20 feet from the floor.
A modern bathroom separates the living/kitchen area from the master bedroom and essentially divides the floor plan and the elevation of the house in two. Above the master bedroom, a loft, with white washed pine floors, provides support for a second large airy bedroom that peers down over the living area.
Interior ceilings are finished with exposed tongue and groove roof sheathing. Also exposed are 3” x 10” structural rafters of the house, giving the impression, when one is luxuriating on the comfortable living room recliners, that the hull of a sturdy, seaworthy boat has been carefully flipped over and placed overhead.
Exterior
The undulating terrain gently slopes from the entrance road down towards the sea. Built on a rocky site with large sink holes and a cave Getaway was delicately placed to minimally impact this beautiful site.
Pathways, with soft grass joints, lead from the entrance drive to the entrance verandahs of the main house. Just to the left of the walkways as you approach the house is a low native stonewall enclosing a lush planting of palms and hiding the opening to a cave. The cave entrance drops to about 8’ below ground level revealing a long enclosed cavity stretching the full length of the house. The cavity is about half as long as it is wide.
Back at ground level (over the cave) a walkway leads to a lush tropical breezeway that opens out onto the seaward side of the house. In contrast to the more manicured coloured tropical landscape on the entrance side of the house, the seaside landscape celebrates the beauty of the indigenous shrub woodland vegetation, comprising salt and wind tolerant trees and shrubs, common to this area. Most of the vegetation on this side of the house was undisturbed during construction; with foundation planting consisting of native salt tolerant seagrape hedges. Mature Gumelemi trees frame views from the verandah to the sea.
A meandering, stepped walkway leads down to the sea where rock outcrops and the beautiful pocket beach are gently caressed by the sea. These same rock outcrops ensure that the stretch of beach adjacent to the house is kept hidden and private. Beyond the beach the sea stretches out to the horizon; the view from here uninterrupted and limitless.

If you want privacy this is the place awesome house views water and Pedro was there every time I called
If you plan to stay I suggest you go to the bluff shopping center and get plenty of groceries for your stay eating out is not convenient on the island. The packet Tim will send you is very helpful it’s a little rough road for couple hundred yards to house just drive slow privacy and paradise is the two words that describe this awesome home.

This is a lovely, comfortable and extremely well-equipped home in a secluded piece of paradise. Whole days went by when we saw barely another soul either by the house or at the nearby beaches. It IS a hike from restaurants and stores, but once you’ve gathered provisions, it’s a terrific place for a quiet vacation in beautiful surroundings.

We had a fantastic stay at Gateway. The place is extraordinarily beautiful and wonderfully secluded. It was a perfect home base to explore the north side of the island, or spend the whole day relaxing, swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding right out front - and then settle in for the postcard sunsets. We really loved Gateway and Eleuthera. I hope to be back!

If you like listening to waves, “Getaway” is perfect and its pocket beach is wonderful, and the sunset view is gorgeous. The kitchen is very well stocked with what’s necessary to cook meals, including condiments, spices, and herbs. Also there are movie DVDs, board games, and books. An SUV with a high ride height is recommended for navigating the dirt road.
The settlement of Current is remote, which means this really is a peaceful “Getaway”. Driving a short distance farther along the main road takes you to that end of the island where there used to be activity. Park and take a pleasant isolated hike along the shore on a dirt-and-rock road around to the Cut and beyond the bend. It’s also a quick drive to the ferries to Spanish Wells or Harbour Island, which are pleasant day trips. Other than that, it’s a bit of a trek to Governor’s Harbour. We didn’t go farther south than that.

Our stay at Getaway was fantastic. The photos don't do this beautiful property justice. A classic modern kitchen, open living area, and bedrooms all lead out onto expansive verandas surrounded by beautifully maintained grounds. We were fortunate that we got see blooming orchids, natural landscapes, and local wildlife. The home was fantastically clean and organized. Its come-and-go beach is private and offers sunset views, snorkeling, swimming, and sun bathing. The fully stocked kitchen has everything you needed to cook at home. Soft, comfy towels and sheets are provided.
Current is a quiet and peaceful setting.
During our stay some of the screens were out for replacement, which made being on the front porch a bit more challenging when there was no breeze and the bugs were out. The downstairs bed is soft, but the upstairs was firm and more to our liking. The road in to the property is a typical road in Eleuthera. Plan for rough surfaces, and going slow at tricky spots.
We loved our time at Getaway and thank our host for the use of his beautiful, meticulously constructed home and the local caretakers for their time and care.

Fabulous well-equipped home - everything is there! Bike rides into Current and Current Cut in the mornings then swimming and sunning in the afternoons. Etched rock steps leading into the sea. Fishing boats and sailboats mooring off shore. We enjoyed both the open and screened porches. 10 stars!!!!

We loved our stay at the getaway. Amazing property and location. Owners and property managers are great to communicate with. Will definitely stay again!

I had an absolutely incredible time at this delightful seaside getaway! Tucked away in secluded surroundings, it truly felt like a private oasis. From the moment I arrived, I felt utterly relaxed and at ease.
The location is unbeatable - steps from the beach, with stunning ocean views from every angle. The rental interior was just as impressive, with beautiful furnishings and decor that made it feel like a home away from home. Everything was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained.
One of the things that really stood out to me about this property was how well-equipped it was. The kitchen had everything I needed to cook meals, and plenty of towels and linens were provided. I also appreciated the little touches, like board games and beach gear, that were available for my use.
Overall, I can't recommend this rental enough. It's the perfect place to escape from the everyday life's hustle and bustle and unwind. I can't wait to come back and stay again soon!

This place is such a joy and very peaceful and quiet. As a bonus there is a herd of goats that cruise around the place occasionally. I have so many good things to say about this place, the kitchen is perfectly set up with all that you look for being right where you expect it to be, ditto the bedrooms and the the towels are great. The only thing I have to complain about and it's a real buzz kill was the pillows and cushions in all the chairs and the sofa. They are all packed out and offer little padding or comfort. There is so much seating at this place; rockers, swinging benches, papasan chairs and more but all of them are flat and limp. And while the upstairs mattress was marginally better the master was dreadful unless you like a really soft mattress that you sink into. But this house is so fabulous otherwise you forget about it until you want to sleep or sit and read. Also, and I know it's always changing but the lead photo shows a lovely beach that is not there right now but what was there was paddleboard and kayak with paddles, lawn chairs and a pretty beach a short drive away that was shady right up to the water. Great place and would recommend it to friends :)

I highly recommend Getaway for anyone looking for a secluded, private Getaway in paradise. The property is exactly as Tim describes in the listing. It was incredibly clean and well kept. We were looking for a peaceful spot on the water to celebrate our 25th anniversary and that's exactly what we got! The pocket beach was perfect when the ride was low and the snorkeling was incredible when the tide was high. We saw stingrays, sea urchins and many tropical fish. We rented a car and we're able to drive to see many attractions and adventure on the island and coming home to Getaway's perfect sunset was the perfect way to end each day. We took a charter boat trip and the kitchen was well stocked for cooking our catch. The electricity on the island was out for a while, but we weren't affected at all. Pedro was great and kept the generator running without a hitch. I can't wait to come back!

Excellent spot if you're looking to get away from everything!

House was perfect. We had everything we needed and more. The water there was beautiful...saw a lot of colorful fish along the rocks. The host was very accommodating and responsive. The house has room for families but is perfect for a honeymoon or a couple's getaway. Loved it!!
4.8
Getaway house exceeded our expectations. The house is very well-built and maintained to a high standard. The location is perfectly away from everything and the “pocket beach” was a dream. While we were not there to watch TV, I will say it was very nice to have actual cable tv with all the networks as opposed to just smart TVs like most rentals do these days (the tv at getaway is also a smart TV with Netflix and a few other streaming apps). Tim is very easy to communicate with and his property manager and cleaning lady do a great job behind the scenes. We can’t wait to come back!

The property has everything one would want: Privacy, ocean access, a/c, a great library, and peace. We found the people of N Eleuthera to be incredibly kind and helpful. The owner’s list of contacts was reliable for local airline and car rental. It was our first visit to the Bahamas and plan to return soon. 2/2022 from Boston

This house had so many amenities, privacy, and a great view/access to a little piece of the Caribbean beach. Highly recommend this stay!

We had a blast! This property is perfect for family fun and had everything we needed. The beach was perfect for relaxing and lots of ocean life to see while snorkeling. My son chased lizards around and enjoyed playing with the hermit crabs. We even caught and cooked up a very tasteful crab from the beach.
When we arrived we were surprised to see the very tiny airport. Our cell phones did not work there and no one had any island maps. Be prepared to spend some money on groceries as they are VERY expensive and not much selection. Most of the places to eat out at all had the same food items and most do not have any atmosphere much less a place to sit down and eat. The only place we found that was decent was out by the glass window. Be prepared to drop $150 per meal for a family of 4 if you plan on eating out and expect chicken and hamburgers. We were a little disappointed that there wasn’t better island lake restaurants. El Karaka Bar & Grill was fabulous and the view of the glass window and ocean is breathtaking. if you’re looking for more of a tourist area you will need to travel to Spanish Wells or Harbor Island. we also thought the island was pretty rundown and not very clean. Such beautiful beaches and things to see, but when you see trash all over the place you wonder why these people don’t clean up to draw people back.

What an adorable house! Everything was clean, well appointed and easy to access. We loved sitting in a sandy spot on the rocks to watch the sunsets! We've been to Eleuthera 16 times, with this trip being our thrid summer trip. The bugs were crazy most likely because of a lot of the undergrowth that was around the house. However, with a little bug spray and long sleeves, all was well. Thank you Tim, Pedro and Karen for a fabulous stay!
p.s. The 4/5 rating for neighborhood was simply due to the road leading to the house which would be rough if you don't have a 4-wheel drive vehicle.

This lovely house is exactly as pictured/described. It is truly secluded, which was what we were looking for, and has a gorgeous oceanfront - you step right from the rocky stairs onto soft sandy bottom in crystal clear waters. There are several pocket beaches, both in front of the house and walking to the Southwest - I had thought these might be private beaches of other homeowners, but the whole area is secluded it is easy to feel that you have it all to yourself. Though shallow, there is fun snorkeling in both directions (you have to walk a little way to the southwest - to the northwest it is right out your door). We saw plenty of fish, corals, a couple of rays, some octopus, etc...The screened porches are a godsend as we got a fair bit of rain during our visit, and the no-see-ums can be truly vicious (my only "complaint." Apparently they don't bother everyone, but they ate me alive so be prepared). Current is a sleepy little town with friendly people. The house itself is tastefully decorated with great AC - we also used the bikes that come with the house for some local exploring. Lots of geckos, hermit crabs and - a bonus for this western girl - fireflies! Tim and Pedro were responsive and easy to work with. We had a great time at the Getaway!
4.8
We stayed at the getaway for a week in May. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, and Karen was responsive to any questions during our trip. The place is really private - you could go your whole time there without seeing anyone. We traveled to several in Eleuthera during our week here and at each one, though beautiful, we agreed that we preferred our spot in Current!
I would recommend renting a sturdy car - the approach to the house is extremely bumpy and rocky. I’d highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a beautiful, private, quiet vacation.

GetAway is a beautiful home and property, fully stocked with many little things we didn't know that we would want. At the end of a road, it is also wonderfully peaceful and quiet.

This place was perfect for our trip. We were looking for solitude and avoiding crowded places. Eleuthera and the Getaway was the right choice to fulfill our needs. The beach was fantastic and the water was calm and relaxing. We spent some time on outings, but most of our time was spent at the property. We saw so many tropical fish, dolphins, and a sea turtle while snorkeling along the coast. My children enjoyed the shallow and calm water along the beach. We kayaked the coast in both directions and found so much to explore. The cave on the property added to our explorations. The host and the caretakers were wonderful, great communicators, and very accommodating. I can't wait to go back to this place. I hope to stay longer next time.

We loved our stay in Current. The house was very clean and felt cozy. The kitchen had everything we needed to make a couple meals in the evenings.
We mostly stayed on the back porch or down by the water when we were there. Make sure to take bug spray! The bugs get vicious in the evenings! We had a large stingray swim by right in front of the property! We jumped in the kayak and went along with it for a little while.
It’s very private!! We didn’t see another person unless we left to go into town.
The only downside was the mattress downstairs and the pillows. They could be replaced, but that won’t stop us from staying there again in the future.
4.8
Everything about this place is great!
It felt safe, Comfortable and Private.
Karen the lady that took us to the house was great!
We ended up eating most of our meals at the house, vary well equipped for cooking.
Can’t wait to go back!
Thanks Tim!

Getaway is an incredible property through-and-through. My wife and I visited in early February, and Karen/Pedro/Tim could not have made our visit any more enjoyable or easier.
We arrived to ELH, picked up our rental, stopped by Burchies (recommend picking up groceries, Getaway has a great kitchen and grill!), and then headed to Getaway.
Karen met us in Current, showed us to the house, gave us a quick tour, and then we quickly settled in and flipped our switches to vacation mode.
The property is incredible. You can take your time exploring the jungle, the caves, the beach, the tidepools, and the water. Tons of local flora, creatures, and everything that Eleuthera has to offer.
As for the house itself, it is perfect! The massive front and back porches are a dream, and the open common area in the house is great. Tim has taken the time to label (in what had to have been a painstaking process) so, so much in the home. It is incredibly helpful!
As for the location, it is easily one of the most secluded places that I have ever visited. With that being said, it is still no more than a 20-30 minute drive to many of the sights of Northern Eleuthera. In 4 full days, we were able to visit Spanish Wells, Ben Bay Beach, Gaulding Cay, Whale Point Beach, Twin Sisters Beach, the Glass Window Bridge, Sapphire Blue Hole, Tay Bay Beach, and the local beaches in Current.
Like the title says, just Getaway!

Wow, what a great time we had.
First let me thank thank Tim for being so kind as to work my ever changing date of arrival. The joy of flying Non-Rev.
my wife and I escaped once again to this magical island without our children for some well deserved alone time.
From North Eleuthera airport We took a cab and first stopped at the liquor store then headed to the grocery store for some basic essentials
($ 40 cab)
We Then met Karen in Current for assistance to the house.
She gave us the lay of the land and was a delight. If we ever had a question she was always reachable.
The house had everything that we could need for our time in Eleuthera.
We enjoyed the location for the first two days without leaving. We rode the bikes into current and grabbed some snacks and lobster from Karen’s small store.
Played in the crystal clear water, explored the coast line with the kayak. Enjoyed peaceful sunsets with the occasional boat passing by.
Never even saw a soul on the beach.
If you are in need of some valuable time away from the crowds and overpriced drinks this is it.
Eleuthera is a hidden gem and we always look forward to our visits.
I would definitely come back
Thanks for a fabulous time
We already miss it
