Walks, birding, kayaking, and absolutely great weather -- what's not to like?

We had a fantastic time spending almost a week at the Bivalve. It was not too long of a drive to Acadia and other beautiful places to explore. It was the perfect spot for the five of us to enjoy our first family vacation in almost a decade!

Our second visit. Quiet location, easy distances for daytrips and screened-in porch when not day tripping. We are senior citizens, and we discovered last summer that it's difficult to maneuver the canoe in and out of the water (although the owner has now built a "launch deck"). We rented kayaks from the Activity Shop--they deliver and retrieve them--and enjoyed using the deck for sipping wine and reading. If you like the Maine woods, water, etc., it's a five-star location.

The Bivalve, a rustic cabin on a quiet cove, is the perfect place to get away but still be close to good restaurants (Brooklin Inn, Tinder Hearth, Aragosta) and great hiking (Acadia and Great Pond Mountain). The kitchen is well stocked and the screened-in porch, right on the water, is idyllic. Saw seals and eagles daily. We hope to return.

The description of the cabin was exactly as advertised. The pictures were accurate. We gathered mussels and dug clams, a true mollusk gathering cornucopia. The cabin is well located to the tiny, but charming town of Brooklin, the upscale town of Blue Hill, and is in striking distance to Deer Isle and Barr Harbor. Visiting the Wooden Boat property is a must and an easy walk from the cabin! Despite the petit scale of the building, it’s lovingly appointed with all modern conveniences. The outdoor shower is a delight. The beach is great for beach combing and the inlet is easy to access via Terry’s canoe.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this adorable cabin! The rustic vibe perfectly complemented the beautiful surroundings, yet it was equipped with all the modern amenities one could wish for. The privacy was unparalleled, allowing us to truly relax and unwind. The views were stunning, and the sunsets were breathtaking!
One of our favorite features was the screened porch, which was perfect for enjoying dinners and morning coffee while taking in the serene atmosphere.
The location was ideal for exploring the area. We were just a short drive away from Blue Hill, Deer Isle, and Stonington, which offered plenty of outdoor activities, charming shops and restaurants. Acadia National Park was also within a reasonable driving distance, making it a great day trip option.
Overall, this cabin exceeded our expectations and provided the perfect backdrop for a memorable getaway. We highly recommend!

We stayed for 6 nights in June 2024 (family of 3, with our teenage daughter). The house is exactly as described on the website. It is really directly at the water in a beautiful and quiet and peaceful setting. It is wonderfully suited to relax and wind down and enjoy nature at its best. The cabin is beautifully appointed and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. A big plus is the screened in porch with the view on the water and ample space for meals al fresco. Another highlight is the provided canoe which allows for fun and memorable moments on the water, such as sunset cruises. The tide recedes far enough to muck around and collect mussels and clams for your dinner fresh from the sea. Another plus is the outside shower. The kitchen is completely equipped to cook sea food, including fresh lobsters. The location close to Blue Hill is just a 20 minute drive to excellent fish market and wine store and supermarket. Also the quaint little fisher village Stonington where one can get fresh lobsters right off the boat is just a 40 minute scenic drive away. Even to Acadia it is only a bit more than an hour and the drive is beautiful.
The cottage is big enough for a small family and a really cozy place. One cannot go wrong with this place. The owner is super easy to communicate with and the check in and check out were super easy and straight forward. We give this a complete 5 star rating and can highly recommend to anyone seeking to spend some quality time close to nature.

I can't say enough how much I loved our stay in Brooklin. It was so peaceful and I loved being at the waters edge. The screened in porch was amazing. I loved waking up with a view of the water. The kitchen was very well equipped for cooking meals. So many fun daytrips nearby. Feeling very well rested. Hope to return someday!

This was our second year staying at the Bivalve. It was perfectly quiet and relaxing. The eagles, osprey, king fisher, pipers and seagulls were the best entertainment while viewing from the screened porch. This quaint and charming cottage is clean and well equipped with everything you need. My favorite is the refreshing outdoor shower! We hope to return again.

Bivalve is an excellent property and location for a quiet week of renewal. After a rainy early summer in Maine, our week was mostly sunny. We visited some of our favorite Down East sites, but spent many hours on the screened porch, reading, talking, and staring at Herrick Bay. A Belted Kingfisher appeared the morning we departed to bid us farewell and invite us to return.

We enjoyed our stay at the Bivalve Cottage SO MUCH! It was every bit as beautiful and homey as described. I would say that the cabin felt more spacious than the pictures showed, there was privacy for the bathroom and bedrooms. The cottage had all the amenities of home, including washer/dryer, paper products, fully stocked kitchen dishes, utensils, spices, board games, puzzles, etc.
The owner provided a wonderful summary of all the things that we would need to know about the cabin, and then some!
Some of things that weren't included in the description were the urban firepit. We had several nice campfires while we were there. We enjoyed the quiet setting and we could watch the sunrise AND sunset from the beautiful screenporch everyday.
One item that I would like to point out is that this is not a good location for swimming. It was, however, the most perfect location for digging clams and finding mussels. We had several nights of freshly foraged seafood.
Another item that I would also point out is that this cottage is pretty far removed from much tourism and/or stores and shops. This was a major advantage for us...as we thoroughly enjoyed the quiet and nature. But it's not an ideal location if you were hoping for evening ice cream cones...it would take about a 20 minute drive to get there.
We had a wonderful time. Our teenage boys didn't want to leave. We loved this place so much, and appreciate Terry for sharing such a lovely cottage.

Second stay even better. Right on the water, quiet, totally equipped, nice host, great trails everywhere; birds, deer, and even people. Nice ones.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bivalve. The location was quiet, quaint and beautiful. The amenities were clearly described and we had all we needed to enjoy this retreat. Our only complaint would be lack of comfortable seating, with just one small couch to relax on for a family of 4. Overall, we had a great time!

We had a lovely time at this cabin! All the amenities listed were there and the cabin as a whole was very clean. The view from the porch was stunning at sunset and there are many other shore locations and hiking trails near by to check out as well

Having spent my childhood summers in Brooklin it was like going home. Our visit to the Bivalve was the perfect getaway. We embraced the peacefulness and solitude of this cottage which had everything we needed. Lots of time spent watching various seabirds and the changing of the tides. Very hard to leave. Simply the best! We’ve booked it for next summer.

We had an amazing time. It was a peaceful getaway that was perfect for my girls. They had a great time with all the board games. The view was amazing and we spotted eagles, cormorants, terns, plovers, rails, and osprey perched on the rocks. Overall a very fun experience for us all.

Our family of four spent a week in August at the Bivalve. It was just what we needed, quiet and away from the crowds but accessible to everything we wanted to see. Close to Acadia & Little Deer Isle. The kitchen was well stocked and the beds were comfortable. The outdoor shower was fantastic. Washer/dryer and dishwasher were very appreciated in a rustic camp like this. Groceries were 20 min away in Blue Hill. Even though we went during the busiest time of the year, we felt we had the whole coast of Maine to ourselves in this location!

very well laid out, no frills small cabin. A lot of well appointed amenities for a small place. The wifi was strong and the laundry and dish washer were well used. The porch views are great and the kids loved playing on the huge rock at the tide extremes and searching for crabs. The sea water is cold even in August. Not much room in the yard or shore for small kids to roam free though. Brooklin is a great nearby small town with a general store.

Perfect respite
This little cabin with an extremely well stocked kitchen was a perfect base of operations for our stay in Brooklin and classes at tge Wooden Boat School. You can’t beat the screened porch.

Great Brooklin cottage
We had a great time staying at the Bivalve. The location was perfect for the course I was taking at the WBS. The evenings were enjoyed on the screened in porch & the access to water was great for a couple of paddles and swims.

Very nice cabin in the middle of the forecast with an spectacular view to the bay.
We spent a great week at this very nice and calm cabin beside the bay. The cabin is very comfortable and has everything that is require to have a great moment. The owner also provided a great list of activities and places to do and visit. My 9 years daughter was crying when we were leaving, she wanted to move there!!!

Improvements Possible
Checking in and out and cleaning both need improvement. Otherwise a very nice quiet place with beautiful scenery.

Nice, quiet neighborhood with access to water activities as well as sun-rise and sun-set viewing. Lots of bird life and easy transit to The Wooden Boat campus.

Just as advertised.
My husband and I stayed 4 nights at the Bivalve. It was wonderful, exactly what we were looking for. We wanted a secluded, quiet, Maine experience.
The screened in porch in front overlooking the water was wonderful - providing great views as well as a very welcoming breeze.
The cabin was clean; nice landscaping; great location; everything we wanted.
There were very hot days during our stay and cool nights - the cabin has an air conditioner and base board heat - we were always very comfortable.
We would certainly rent again if ever in Maine.

A rare treat
It's the perfect place for people who love nature and quiet and seashore and woods and a feeling of being a part of it all while still inside the cottage while having access to so many beautiful shores and streams and woods and seaside villages.
We found it ideal for the two of us.

Cozy cottage, beautiful bay, utter quiet
Cottage is rustic and completely comfortable; the view is delightful; and the daily cycle of tides, birds, seals, and crabs is a constant pleasure.

Quiet, comfortable and rustic slice of heaven in Maine
We rented this rustic cabin/house for a week. It was perfect for our family of four (kids ages 10 & 13). The place is small, but big enough for us all to comfortably stay out of each other’s hair. I loved the peace and quiet of the bay, the direct access to the water (my husband and daughter kayaked every day from the front), and the serenity of watching the tide go in and out. The cabin isn’t fancy, but it has everything you need: it’s clean, it’s comfortable, and the outdoor shower is a surprise luxury. This is a lovely cabin, in a lovely location, and made for a lovely vacation! Thank you, Terry!

Wooded & coastal hideaway
The Bivalve is in a fantastic location. The house is exactly as described and Terry is super easy to communicate with and full of great local information in his guide. We love this hidden corner of Maine and the cottage is inches away from one of the most beautiful stretches of coast. Every need is catered for in the property and we truly had a wonderful stay. Note that the bedrooms are very small and the beds may be due an upgrade but apart from the latter we would return in a heartbeat! Thanks.

Ultimate relaxation
I love this little place! It is so very relaxing! You can watch the sunrise AND sunset over the water from the back porch. I want to stay all summer and Terry, the owner, is fantastic.

Remote cabin in the woods
The cabin was as the pictures looked. It was very dusty and cluttered. The slow winding roads make the miles to get to places very long.
Great screened porch to view sun rises and sets...the best part of the cabin.

Little bit of heaven
This is our second year renting this home and we will come back every chance we can. I came with my two teenage boys and it was perfect. The place isn't luxurious, but it is wonderful. You feel like you are all by yourself in the woods and on the water, and when you do run into neighbors, they are so cheerfully nice. I hesitate to tell you what a great experience we had because once you rent, you won't save any weeks for us. Take a chance... this place, and the owner, are worth it! Beautiful, peaceful, and utterly relaxing! Staying here is a blissful recharge you won't forget.

The Perfect Spot
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Bivalve. The cabin is quiet, comfortable and well-appointed. It's great to watch the changing tides from the screen porch. High tide is the perfect time to kayak; low tide offers the ability to sit out on the rocks and explore tidal pools and watch the sunset. The Brooklin Country Store is very close by and has all the essentials (and then some!). We really look forward to our next visit!

Little house of perfection
So much charm, thoughtfulness, peace, nature, wildlife, flowers, pine cones and beauty in one place! Perfect for our family with two toddlers. Thank you Terry for literally thinking of everything.
