About this cabin rental
Guests should have access to the vacation rental app prior to check-in. We will send all check-in information, directions, and key codes through the VRBO app.
Located on the east side of Flagstaff this cabin is within the city limits yet has the rustic charm of a woodsy cabin. (Please note; the cabin is in a suburban neighborhood, it is not a 'rural cabin-in-the-woods') Convenient to Highway 89 and Interstate 40. Walk out the front door to enjoy the Flagstaff Urban Trails hiking trails of Mount Elden, the Arizona Trail and Picture Canyon Trail. A great jumping-off point for your trips to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Walnut Canyon and all that Northern Arizona has to offer!
The space:
This is a small guest house on our property, our house is the green house you may see in some of the background of some of the pictures.
We will send directions to the cabin the day before your check in and will send a keycode for the front door shortly before your check-in time. We will write you through VRBO/HomeAway messaging. If you will not have access to VRBO/HomeAway please write us well in advance to make other arrangements . Dawn and I both work so we may not see you during your stay but we are always available via text or telephone to answer any questions or promptly address any issues.
We have this listed for up to 4 people but it would be very tight accommodations for more than two or three adults. This is a small one-bedroom cabin. There is a daybed with trundle in the kitchen / living area and a queen sized bed in the bedroom (see pictures).
Please note, there is no smoking allowed in the house but there has been smoking in the past; there are no pets allowed in the house but there have been pets in the house in the past.
We are in the 'Smokerise' neighborhood of East Flagstaff. We are just off of Highway 89 And close to the Interstate 40 Country Club exit .
The house is in a residential, suburban neighborhood within the city limits of Flagstaff, but it is set back, off the road, with views of Mount Elden. While the cabin is small-ish, it has a nice covered porch which adds additional 3 season living space.
There is a small stacked washer dryer set. It is adequate for light loads of approximately 10 lb, if you have heavy items please use the laundromat at the park Santa Fe Shopping Center.
There is wireless internet (Wi-Fi) in the cabin, the Internet service we provide is the only Internet available in our neighborhood, it is subject to outages outside of our control . Cable television is available through an online streaming service on a Roku streaming device. You can login to your personal streaming accounts on the Roku, there is also an auxiliary HDMI port if you want to connect your streaming device. We also get five or six broadcast channels over the antenna.
We can often accommodate same-day bookings, but check-in may be as late as 5pm in these cases due to housekeeping scheduling. Regardless of the website settings please email us prior to making a "same-day" booking, we are not always able to accommodate . Drop a note with any questions.
We are approximately 2 miles away from Flagstaff Mall, Safeway/Starbucks, Harkins Theaters, and other shopping. We are approximately 15 minutes down Route 66 from downtown Flagstaff and Northern Arizona University.
We are approximately an hour and 15 minutes down Highway 89 from the Desert View Visitor Center at the south rim of the Grand Canyon. I personally prefer entering the Park from this entrance because the flow of traffic is generally lighter when starting from the East entrance. We are approximately 2 hours from Antelope Canyon. This cabin is also an excellent jumping-off point if you're going to make the trip to the north rim of the canyon.
Some notes on the Winter / Fall Seasons:
In the pictures of the cabin you will see white wall heaters in the living room and bedroom. These heaters are very efficient at keeping the cabin very warm and comfortable, but they do not adjust with a standard thermostat. They have a level control behind the access door, they're very easy to adjust but might not be what you are used to at home.
Fall is a great time to visit Flagstaff. The restaurants and attractions aren't as packed as they can be during the summer and winter. The weather is beautiful. It is a perfect time to hike and enjoy the Fall colors.
Flagstaff is known to get rather heavy snow storms during the winter. We are on the schedule of a snow removal service but this occurs according to their workload, and when the snow is heavy, removal might not happen in a convenient time frame... In other words you could get snowed in or out. The driveway will get plowed but guests need to shovel out their own vehicle, we do not have a service to shovel out cars, but we do provide a sturdy snow shovel.
The fireplace you see in the pictures is not operable, the chimney is blocked off and insulated no fires are permitted in the fireplace.
We are apx 12 miles from the parking/shuttle at the Arizona Snowbowl & apx 22 miles from Arizona Nordic Village. There are great Snowshoeing and Snow Play opportunities within a short walk from the cabin. The covered porch is a great place to keep your skis & snow-play gear.

Our family calls this The Shepherd's Cabin, it is located between Mount Elden and Sheep Hill on the east side of Flagstaff. What we have been able to find by word of mouth is that this cabin was built in the Late 1800's / early 1900's as a temporary residence for Shepherds who were tending flocks in the area; at the time this was far removed from the town of Flagstaff. It has been nicely updated but still features the rustic charm of a well-built fieldstone cabin. Our friends and family have enjoyed staying here through the years and we are thrilled to offer it to those looking for unique and historic lodging through VRBO / HomeAway. Please check out all the pictures, read the description and don't hesitate to write with any questions!

It was nice and cool in flagstaff. We had a great time. The house was nice and the bed was good. Had everything we needed. I would stay here again.

This is a nice 1 bedroom house that fit our needs. We were traveling with e-bikes and there was a little patio space for to easily store and even charge them up. We made our breakfasts and got out to explore Flagstaff. The “cabin”was clean and had all that we wanted. On the outskirts of town but close to the grocery store we needed. So much nicer then motel/hotel for us. We had 3 nights there. When the skunk came by in the middle of the third night it reminded us of our home in N California where they were constantly with us. I would choose this again when I go to Flagstaff.

Stay was as described, everything provided for cooking. It was just what we needed. Clean and easy location. My son and I had a great time hiking in flag for a few days!

The owners thought of everything, surpassing what we imagined would be included. I would have enjoyed reading about the history of the house and surrounding area, including the geology of the cinder hills area. (We were able to find some info online.)
It was quiet and close to various services. It was obvious that the owners had put in a lot of effort to make the house as quaint as possible. Nice kitchen area! Beautiful fireplace.

This cabin had everything we needed, except ice. We bought a couple of ice trays and left them for future guests. Everybody needs ice. 😊

What a lovely little cabin that is so well stocked with everything! And, such easy access to visit the Grand Canyon, Sedona & Walnut Canyon. Also, Flagstaff is a great place to stay. Thank you to our hosts!

Very comfortable accommodations. Well stocked with all necessities. Location was perfect for all of our sightseeing. Very clean and comfortable beds. Owners were always quick to respond to questions. Would definitely stay here again.

The location was wonderful because the Grand Canyon was only a couple hours away. Phoenix was only a couple hours away. And we visited a friend in Topock which was only a little over 2 hours away. And the cottage had everything we needed. We will definitely recommend this lovely cottage to our friends!

A cute place. Sufficient and cozy.

Absolutely love this place. Would be happy to come back! Notes and information aim every place that you may have a question. Not sure how to use the heater no worries, a note and pictures to help you out. Not familiar with the area again no worries, notes and suggestions ready for you.
Only thing I was looking for but could not find was a check out list. We did the dishes and washed the sheets/towels but were not sure on what the owner is expecting from us.
Overall great weekend getaway!!

Very clean comfortable cottage, good neighborhood, very quiet, convenient. Washer and dryer was a bonus. Comfy bed, was very comfortable away from home. Close enough to Sedona and Grand Canyon.

Cozy and comfortable, just right for our visit to the Grand Canyon.

We just love this property. This was our third year visiting and we plan to visit again next year.
There are wonderful hiking trails within a short drive and also some very nice micro-breweries for refreshing afterwards.

The cabin is so cozy and beautiful! Had the window open at night so sleep was wonderful! Everything we needed was there. Highly recommend a stay here when in Flagstaff.

I've stayed at many places in Flag and this is my favorite. Three reasons: privacy, porch, amenities.
The last place I vacationed at bragged about a dishwasher but didn't supply the detergent; same thing for the washer - no detergent. The bragged about total access to the pool was non-existant, as it was locked. No plastics food bags, no trash bags, no way to use the grill unless you bought all the necessary liquids for that as well, etc. You get the picture. And I rented it because so many people said that the hosts thought of and supplied absolutely everything. ???????????

We thought this was the best place for us to have booked. The property had everything we needed from outdoor seating to a gas grill. As a side note, I found out from others who were in the tournament that they did not have AC at their lodging. This being summer and with the heat advisory AC was a requirement. This property had that covered. I had a brief interaction with the owner and he could not have been more helpful. I highly recommend this property for two people.
4.8
Excellent location to restaurants, shopping, movie theater and anything else we needed. Bed was super comfortable. Size of the stone cabin was perfect for hubby and me. I think 3 people would have been a bit crowded.
4.8
Had an Awsome time and the location was perfect for everything we wanted to do.. Loved the personal touches and had everthing we needed
4.8
My husband & I are just doing a slow drive seeing things that we have not seen. Easy in and out. Great location to many different things to do.

Loved it.

The cottage is exactly what is advertised: clean, quiet, comfortable and well-equipped. My only issue was at check-in, as I misread the instructions for how to unlock the door. Once I got that cleared up I had a very pleasant experience. I’m sure the washer and drier would come in handy for those staying for an extended period. I loved how quickly hot water appeared in the kitchen and in the shower (with I had that at home!).
Please note that it is on the far eastern side of town. If you really want to be downtown or close to the university this might not be your best option. It worked perfectly for me, and I highly recommend this rental.

This was a cute place for my husband and I to stay as we explored Flagstaff and the surrounding area. The home was well equipped and comfortable. Since we were traveling we didn't spend much more than evenings there, but it was a very cozy place to come home to after a long day of adventuring. We did contact the owner to inquire about the weather and he was very kind and put our minds at ease. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Cozy and clean cabin.

This cabin was perfect for us to get to the Grand Canyon, Bearizona and Meteor Crater while we stayed in the area. The cabin sits on 89 and you’ll want to take that north then head west on 64. You should be able to drive right in at that enterance (NO WAITING) and see the most beautiful stops first. You’ll see how long the line to get in is at the south rim enterance when you exit that way - you’ll have seen what you wanted to see before those folks ever got into the park. This was a tip from our rent a car guy and he was so right. Highly recommend!
Ed and Dawn were kind and responsive, check in/out was a breeze. Plenty of household items around the house and the washer dryer were extremely handy. It was cold so we even dried our towels while we showered so they were warm when we got out. The dryer is located next to the shower so easy to grab.
Overall great stay. I’d recommend to anyone!

Great place to spend a few nights in a snow storm- warm and cozy- sufficient for two. We had everything we needed.House is located in a neighborhood - close to other houses. It is a nice neighborhood of friendly people and the owner was great and responsive . The driveway was cleared and snow removal was great.
4.8
Well appointed cottage. It was cold and snowy but was plenty warm. A little difficult to find in the dark but otherwise had no issues. Ed was very responsive to any communication. If you stay in Flagstaff in the winter, be sure to get a 4 wheel drive vehicle to rent though!
4.8
It was a wonderful place to stay and hang out with friends and play games each night after sightseeing during the day.
4.8
great cabin! we loved it
4.8
Everything was good, could improve the lighting from the road to the driveway. It’s practically impossible to see and figure out. Also parking around the property is not clearly marked. On 2 night stay one of the night was without internet hard to believe it’s our bad luck.
Overall wonderful cozy place nicely maintained.
4.8
It was a wonderful few days. The cabin was cozy. We got to rest and relax. From the booking to the leaving it was all great. We will definitely come back. Thank you Dawn and Ed

Great location and very responsive owner :-)
4.8
My wife and I enjoyed it very much.
4.8
The cabin is a great space for 2 people and was in the perfect location for all the things we had planned during our week stay. All the amenities you need including a wonderful little kitchen. Our only major issue was that the WiFi connection was very poor. I am a remote worker so that was especially difficult. The only other downfall for the cabin was that it was really stuffy-even with the fan and AC unit, there seemed to be no air circulation. Overall though we enjoyed our stay!
4.8
We had a wonderful stay.
Cabin is cozy and very comfortable.
We especially like the firm beds.
While we spent most of the week out and about during the day, the cabin was always a quiet refuge at the end of each day. Could use just a little more closet space and little bigger street side address sign but these were very minor inconveniences.
