This spectacular oceanfront home has a wonderful historic style, a dog-friendly attitude, amazing location on a clifftop in Depoe Bay, and some of the best whale-watching opportunities you could hope to find! Combined with all the comforts of home and enough space for as many as eight guests, this is the perfect place to plan your next coastal vacation.
Nestled on a hill just on the south side of Depoe Bay, this home is close to the town's charming restaurants, souvenir shops, Whale Watching Center, and the world's smallest bay. From the harbor you can launch your own boat or book a spot on one of the whale-watching or deep-sea fishing tours that leave from Depoe Bay. The easiest beach access is less than five minutes north by car at Fogarty Creek, though you could also drive 10 minutes south to the breathtaking Devils Punch Bowl or north 10 minutes to Lincoln Beach and Gleneden Beach. You could even go a little farther north (about 15 minutes) into Lincoln City or take an equally short drive south into Newport.
With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, this home has plenty of space for up to eight guests (six adults maximum, please), and up to two dogs are even welcome with a small nightly fee. Inside, you will find antiques that complement the historic style of this 1930's house, as well as plenty of windows that allow gorgeous views of the ocean - look carefully and you can see harbor seals, sea lions, and even an occasional whale!
The main level of the house has a cozy living room with a TV and gas fireplace, a well-stocked full kitchen, a dining area, and a bathroom with a laundry area. One of the bedrooms is also on this level (featuring a queen-size bed) and a sofabed in the living room folds out into extra sleeping space at night.
Upstairs are two more bedrooms and a bathroom with a walk-in shower that is accessible both from the hallway and the master bedroom. The first bedroom offers a soft and comfortable queen-size bed, a television, and a lovely balcony that overlooks the town and the ocean. In the master room is a king-size bed, yet another TV, and windows with jaw-dropping views of the sea. If the weather doesn't cooperate as much as you had hoped, you can always enjoy a nice evening in and take advantage of the many entertainment options provided, including cable TV, a DVD player and selection of movies, WiFi access, board games, and a huge variety of books.
This home is a fantastic place to bring your friends or family and enjoy a vacation spent watching for whales, strolling around charming Depoe Bay, and enjoying each other's company. In the small town you will find just about everything you may need, though you could also drive up or down the coast to find more activities, state parks, dining options, and much more, so don't be afraid to explore!
Come stay in this amazing oceanfront home and enjoy a much-deserved relaxing coastal getaway!

Nice home...beautiful view
Could use some removations

What a beautiful view and great location. It has so much potential to be a 5 star experience. It was a clean place, but many things were out of service including the fireplace, washing machine, broken blinds, missing curtains, floor boards coming up, and an ant problem. With an extended 5 day stay we had counted on being able to do laundry, it would behoove the host to be transparent about the status of the home. It was a great location and the views are incredible, a great outdoor viewing area. I would not stay in this specific spot again, the host was communicative and did give us a small compensation (8% percent of the total cost). Yet the host was unable to mitigate or fix anything during the stay. If you are looking for a cabin like experience that is cozy this home is up your alley. Overall, it could use some TLC yet I understand why owners wouldn’t want to invest in a short term rental property.

Great views of Depoe Bay! Close to town, we walked to our favorite restaurant and shops.
4.8
We loved how eclectic the house was - with antique furniture and interesting lamps, glass doorknobs, etc. While it is definitely an older house, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
4.8
The views from Whale Vista are absolutely stunning! I would highly recommend this home just for the breathtaking views alone. The couches and beds are very comfortable, the water is hot with good pressure, and the kitchen is fully equipped for preparing simple meals. I would definitely stay here again! Check-in is straightforward, and parking is convenient.

We enjoyed our stay very much. Kitchen is a bit small but adequate for our needs. If you're cooking, bring your own storage containers, foil and saran wrap. We made due with one roll of paper towels. Bring your own spices. View is phenomenal, and all bedrooms have an ocean view. We experienced a sugar ant invasion in the upstairs and downstairs southern bedrooms, which was gross. Downstairs tub and kitchen sink drip. There are stairs that must be climbed to access the front door. Except for deck area, outside not well maintained but may be time of year with winter storms just in rearview mirror: long grass/weeds, dead tree in pot, broken statuary, siding missing in back, debris on front patio and path. Furniture is an eclectic mix, some with obvious wear and tear but home was comfortable (please note, due to its height, the King bed needs limber folks to climb in). We had fun playing games, sharing meals and exploring the area. Fenced backyard for dogs is great but our little dog enjoys a good safari, and she found her way under the deck. Being completely honest, could due with a little refresh but somewhat expected due to price and age of home.

You can’t beat this view and having our dogs with us was great. The house could use some TLC.

We enjoyed this older home for its location and wonderful views. It was perfect for three of us for a birthday weekend get away. There were some quirks and some things were a bit dated but we would definitely go back!
4.8
Loved the place. The view is amazing. Easy living.
4.8
Wonderful location. Very special views. Everything was just lovely.
4.8
So nice to be able to relax.

An amazing place for a great price. Perfect for small to medium dogs. Yard is small but very well fenced. Beautiful views. Beds are comfy with plenty of spare blankets. The upstairs bathroom is wonderful and there are lots of fluffy towels. My one hope is that the downstairs bathroom gets some loving soon. Plenty of dishes for cooking and eating. We had a wonderful time and plan on coming back to this property in the Fall.

Beautiful home with outstanding view! So incredible to be that close to the ocean. Even though we did not see whales , we soaked in the sun and sounds of the waves crashing. So relaxing!, The interior of house was so roomy and the furnishings were so comfortable. We loved the privacy of this location, but yet so close to shopping and restaurants. We experienced two dinners out that were excellent! All in All we loved this property and it was so clean!
4.8
Loved the views of course! Comfortable home! The Christmas light show across the street made it fun! The fenced in yard was great for the puppers. We would definitely return to this home if possible.

This house was so perfect we didn't leave our entire vacation. The views of the ocean were beyond amazing. The cleanliness was top notch and the home well maintained. All we wanted to do was sit around the fireplace and watch the stormy ocean. We will be back!

Wonderful home with an amazing view. We just relaxed!

Beautiful views of the ocean. Lovely little place. Very comfortable.
4.8
Great views from all bedrooms and living room. Even cut out kitchen window so the cook can to watch for whales! Small kitchen but fairly well stocked. Comfortable beds. We had stormy weather, sunny weather and drizzly weather. Perfect for the beach!

The location and views are amazing. The daily sounds of the ocean and the bird life make this a relaxing place to just sit on the deck and sip on a cocktail while taking in the spectacular Oregon coastline. The home is decorated quaint and old fashioned (vintage decor). The kitchen amenities and conditions of some parts of the home could use some additional attention and TLC but the management and owners have been made aware. They were responsive and apologized for any inconvenience. We still had a wonderful stay because of the location and we would highly recommend the home as long as people understand it is not "pristine."

The location is perfect but the house has seen better days. The furnishings need to be updated. You need to be 6’ tall to use the king bed. It is an old waterbed somebody put a regular mattress in and is so far off the floor I needed a step stool. The downstairs tub has had a water leak for so long it has worn all the enamel off the tub. The dishwasher doesn’t even get itself clean. The linens are old and thin.
But having said all that, the view and location are wonderful. Maybe look at a house on either side.

Minor fixes need to happen but overall we had a fantastic week!!
4.8
Amazing ocean views and whale watching from patio and all windows. Older home, very quaint but needs updates
4.8
What a quaint Craftsman style home with amazing views. We loved waking up with the ocean views and within walking distance to the shops and harbor. I wish we saw whales though as that would make it epic.
4.8
We were charmed by the very eclectic house once we got up the ton of stairs with our luggage. ( We knew about that so it was fine) The location was really nice. Very close to town. Right on the water. Everything we needed was there. There were a couple things that were a bit substandard like the propane grill was all rusty, a few of the blinds were kind of hodge podge and the one in the upstairs bedroom was the wrong type for a siding glass door and someone had trouble with it in the past and was all messed up. The kitchen is very small but we made it work. The view fantastic. Beautiful sunsets ever night. We enjoyed ourselves and the property
4.8
We loved the cozy house with such interesting and tasteful, international decor. We enjoyed being so close to the ocean. The views were fantastic. Highly recommend it!
4.8
Charming home!
4.8
Incredible view, excellent comfort!
4.8
We have stayed here numerous times in the past but hadn't been in a while. Everything was as we remembered and it is one of our favorite places on the Oregon coast. We can't wait to come back!
4.8
Great views and great location to downtown Depoe Bay. The kitchen and living room spaces are pretty compact - just as a heads up! :)
4.8
Nice, Great location within walking distance to town for meals and shopping.
4.8
This is a lovely older home with plenty of space and privacy. It has a large outdoor living space with a nice deck, barbeque, comfortable deck chairs, and a fantastic view of the coast line in both directions. Views include the Spouting Horn, and the entrance to Depoe Bay where the boats enter and exit the bay.
The house is well cared for and well stocked with plenty of towels, blankets, dishes, cooking spices, and much more. It's an easy short short walk to all the restaurants and shops. Simply perfect for us.
There is one bedroom/bathroom downstairs. The bedroom is quite large with a private door leading out to the deck. There are two second floor bedrooms and a full bath. One of the second floor bedrooms has it's own private veranda/deck. All three bedrooms have spectacular ocean views to wake up to.
The home is stoutly built. Floors are solid, not creaky at all. It has a large livingroom with gas fireplace. Very cozy.
SPECIAL NOTE: If navigating stairs while carrying luggage, groceries, etc., is a challenge for you, this house might not be the best choice. There are 12+3 outside steps from the parking area to the front door.
For us, I would not hesitate to rent this home again or recommend it to others. It's dreamy!
4.8
We have always enjoyed our stays here. What pleases us most is the owners listen to feedback and make changes. The yard fence was repaired making it much more suitable and safe for our pet. The house was much cleaner this visit. We will be back.
4.8
Enjoyed the views from the windows. And driving around the coast
4.8
The property is in a wonderful location. The view is impressive from multiple levels. Everything was very clean.
4.8
Our first stay in Depot Bay. Could not have asked for a more beautiful view point, to celebrate our birthdays. Home decor was very inviting and warm and cozy. Loved the antiques. The master bedroom was spacious and a comfortable king bed.
It was fun watching the boats come into the harbor at 20 knots!
The sunsets were amazing! We were luck to have 2 sunny, 50 degree days in December to boot! The final night was stormy enough to hear the waves really crash beneath the home, with the wind howling!
Definitely worth checking this home out. Don’t forget to visit Tidel Waves for an excellent meal
4.8
Quaint home with artistic flair. Direct view of bay. Saw a whale breach on first morning - right from the livingroom window.
4.8
Great vacation property! The fantastic view and location close to shopping and restaurants was ideal.
4.8
Loved the house, the view, the location. There is nothing not to like!!
4.8
We would definitely stay here again, even if there is some room for improvement.
PROS:
- Unbeatable location. Truly spectacular. Broad open views of the ocean and scenic cliffs. (As the pictures show, you're right above the ocean, the pictures aren't hiding anything, it really looks that amazing!)
- Huge windows everywhere on the back of the house for great views. The house is simultaneously built for excellent privacy from neighbors also, so perfect combination.
- Short walk from the Depoe Bay shops and cafes, so easy!
- Well-equipped kitchen with everything we needed to cook dinner such as pans, cheese grater, utensils, coffee maker, and so on.
- Comfortable beds, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms.
- Comfortable couches and big leather chairs that we really enjoyed sitting in as we looked out at the ocean.
- Lovely deck to enjoy the scenery when the weather is good, and cozy seating around the fireplace when it's stormy.
- Super easy check in and out with a lockbox code and timely messages from Vacasa.
CONS:
- This is clear from the photos, but the interior is extremely dated. A $100,000 renovation of bathrooms, kitchen, floors, and furniture would massively increase the value and appeal of this place.
- The downstairs bathroom and the bedroom to some degree had a urine smell to them. We would not have been happy with that if someone had to stay there. We fortunately only needed the upstairs bedrooms. The smell is the kind that's drawn into the wallpaper, baseboards, flooring, etc. and that would require a remodel to get rid of. Everything was clean otherwise, though a deep clean of things like baseboards would help.
- The rugs in the bathroom and kitchen are unsanitary. Ditch them.
- The bedding smelled odd as well. Speaking as a Superhost on a competing platform: Use only white bedding, and replace it entirely somewhat regularly. You can get cheap bedding on Amazon, it was worth it for me and my unit costs a third per night of what this one does.
