Punana Aloha, which means 'Love Nest' in Hawaiian, is a one-bedroom, one-bath hideaway on incomparable Anini Beach. Constructed of natural cedar throughout, this cottage is the perfect choice for a vacation to simply 'get away from it all.' Restricted to a maximum of two guests, the cottage is ideal for honeymoons or anniversaries.
Located on Kauai's verdant North Shore, Anini Beach is a haven for the traveler who wants to experience the unspoiled natural beauty of Hawaii. Protected by a large outer reef, the quiet waters of Anini are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, and sunning.
Follow Anini Road almost to the spot where it dead ends at Anini Stream (the last quarter mile is unpaved and may be a little bumpy) and you will find Punana Aloha on a beautifully landscaped half acre of land fronting the ocean. The ocean view is unobstructed, and your toes will touch the sand of the beach less than 75 yards from the front door.
Features include 896 square feet of living area with two covered lanais, two reclining chairs in living room, built-in desk/office area, daybed, comfortable king-sized bed in bedroom, full bathroom with tub/shower, ceiling fans, washer and dryer, telephones, large charcoal barbeque/smoker, chaise lounges, and beach chairs.
The fully-equipped kitchen contains solid oak cabinets with a large pantry, a four-burner gas range with oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, six-foot bar/serving counter/cooking island, coffee maker, rice cooker/steamer, toaster, blender, mixer, etc.
The living room has a home entertainment center which includes a 27-inch color cable Smart TV .
We provide FREE HIGH SPEED INTERNET ACCESS (DSL), FREE UNLIMITED LONG DISTANCE CALLING (within the USA), CALLER ID, 3 WAY CALLING, AND *69 (enabling you to dial the last number who called you). There is a cordless phone in the kitchen area, and one more in the bedroom. The kitchen phone also has an answering machine.
Punana Aloha is fully permitted as a transient vacation rental by the County of Kauai. Our Non Conforming Use Certificate number is 5082.

If you want a getaway where you can spend all day at the beach right outside and truly feel away from it all, this is your place. Decent snorkeling right out front in protected shallow water (you do have to go out pretty far, but it felt very safe in summer), basic nice accommodations including a nice kitchen and outdoor area, but above all privacy, beauty, and steps from the ocean. We enjoyed the wildlife - lizards, frogs, roosters, crabs, community cats - the beach, the jungle, the trees, the views, and the occasional tropical rain. The only slight note is that there is no AC, but just ceiling fans and some box fans. In late August this meant a few hot, sticky humid nights, but honestly if they put in AC it would probably make this rental out of our price range. The history of this family property is also a huge plus - I feel so good that we found this and we will definitely come here again.

If you are thinking about booking this place, do it. The pictures do not do this amazing property justice. Beach views, best snorkeling, No service. It’s literally heaven on earth! . This will be a repeat property for us! Mahalo!!

Great place to stay on the beach. Great snorkeling in the Summer. The wooden interior and Hawaiian decor are very homey and comfortable. We would stay here again and suggest it to anyone who enjoys spending their time on the beach.

We arrived after dark after a long day of travel, and we weren't even sure we had the right place until the combination on the lockbox worked, LOL, but once we stepped into the house we felt any stress melt away. The spaciousness and vibe of the place with the pine paneling reminded me of cabins I grew up with back home in the Adirondacks, and I instantly felt at peace. When we woke up in the morning and could see the view of Anini beach, We knew we had chosen the perfect home for our 25th anniversary trip. The cottage has TONS of space for a one bedroom, and the kitchen is fully appointed for anyone who wants to cook up a beautiful island meal. (I love to cook, and my first reaction was, "Oh, I could cook in this kitchen.") This stretch of Anini Beach is quiet, calm, and shallow. At low tide you could easily walk out 100 yards or more if you wished. We saw several turtles in the shallows while walking the 2 mile beach. The location on the North Shore is ideal, with easy access to Kilauea, the magical town of Hanalei, and the end of the road beaches and parks. We didn't explore Princeville or south to Poipu, because that would involve crowds of people, and this cottage is PERFECT if you wish to have privacy and just enjoy the company you came with. As you make your final approach on Anini Road, remember you didn't come to Kauai for the infrastructure. ;) If we're ever lucky enough to return to Kauai, I wouldn't hesitate to rent "our" cottage again. Mahalo!

The house had everything we needed and more. It was clean, nicely decorated, just what I pictured a Hawaiian home would look like. Checking in and out was seamless.
Having an ocean in front of you and a forest behind you is priceless.
My husband and I came to Hawaii to celebrate our 30th anniversary. This house was perfect for that.
We hope to come back.
Thank you for sharing your home with us.

This property was absolutely amazing. Such a beautiful view out the living room windows. Spacious kitchen (but we didn’t cook lol), nice bathroom, great bedroom with very comfortable bed. We love the lanai with chaise lounges with a great view of the ocean. The ocean/beach was so close and absolutely gorgeous. I truly couldn’t have found a better place! Communicating with the owner was very easy! We were not really close to anything but we found we loved the drive to Hanalei and Princeville. There was so much to do and great places to eat. Even when we drove to the other places on the island it wasn’t a bad drive and was so pretty it didn’t matter how long it took. We did have a great deal of rain (wettest spring in years!) but we absolutely had the best time! We cannot wait to come back!

Nestled on the North Shore of Kauai, located just across the road from Anini Beach, one of the most picturesque beaches on the island, this home offered unparalleled access to serene beauty and endless ocean activities. The calm waters, protected by the outer reef, provided snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, and lazy walks along the beach. The tranquility of the beach, especially during the weekdays, was soothing to the soul. There were moments when it felt as if the beach was ours alone.
The adventurous path leading up to the Princeville resort area and the Westin provides a great early-morning coffee spot. Just remember, take it slow, you're on vacation. Hanalei town, is a 20-minute drive, offering a quaint and fun scene if the mood strikes for exploring.
What truly set this home apart was its privacy and the palpable sense of quiet it offered. The property, well-kept, homey, and providing everything you need for a comfortable stay, felt like a secluded haven amidst the lush Kauai landscape. The ocean views from the front window, and the breezes were peaceful and relaxing. The sense of calm and privacy it provided made our vacation truly relaxing, allowing us to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. When you forget what day it is, you know you're truly on vacation.
For anyone seeking a memorable escape to Kauai, this is a great place to stay.

From the amazing view from the porch, the quick walk to the beach this place is just amazing. Such a lovely and inviting space to stay. The owner is just a delight and was among the best I have ever encountered in my years of renting. Don’t hesitate just book it.

This homey little cottage offers impressive natural beauty, surrounded by lush greenery and a stunning ocean view. The beautiful clear water across the road offers amazing snorkeling opportunities around the reef. New appliances made cooking a breeze, the kitchen was well equipped, the couch and bed were very comfortable. It is a little oasis off the beaten path. However there are some downsides. Unfortunately, that path is lined with homeless people, abandoned cars and is extremely bumpy. In addition the beach draws people at all hours playing music and shining lights into the bedroom. The property to the left has loud 4 wheel drive vehicles that drive past the property constantly and starts their lawn care very early in the mornings. The rustic nature of the cottage brings with it spiders, gnats, mosquitos, geckos, feral cats and chickens. Would we go back, ABSOLUTELY! It was a great way to experience Hawai’i for the first time.

Suzi and Bob have really got the spot. The house is just steps from the beach and near the end of the road making it feel peaceful and far from loads of tourists.
Suzi also checked in to make sure everything was working as it should and gave us a ton of food recommendations. Hukilau in Kapaa was incredible - thanks Suzi!
We will definitely be back!

Very nice, well taken care of comfortable home. We had a great time. Everything that we needed was at the home. It was wonderful to grab a cup of coffee, walk down the lawn and sit on a the quiet beach watching the turtles. The road is as described getting to the property. But wasn’t that much of an inconvenience. We hope to stay here again!

We had the most magical amazing time at Anini beach! The cottage was perfect for my husband and I and we loved the location. Lots of walks and beach time. We saw turtles sunning on our beach and snorkeling was amazing. Suzi was an amazing host and very responsive to all our needs. We will be back again!

First off I’d like thank the owner, Suzi. Very responsive and helpful.
PROS: house is secluded and very private. You have the beach directly in front of the house and the house is nestled in the trees. Really beautiful.
CONS: located in a questionable area. Seemed to be a lot of homeless campers camping on Anini Beach and in their cars. Many walk down the dirt road towards the house and are living out of their cars. Not a big deal, we were just surprised to see this. Definitely not just your local surfers.
The house is dated. Needs a new bed frame, new fans (they barely worked), new drapes (they were dirty and moldy). The oven broke our second night. Suzi was great and got there the next day, but we didn’t have an oven for the rest of our stay. We could have pushed for her to get a new one, but we really just wanted some privacy.
House needs more amenities. Kleenex, more towels, blankets, pens. The beach chairs were rusted and old.
The furnishings were a little uncomfortable. Needs a new couch. This house has so much potential but it just wasn’t super cozy for us. As mentioned, the owner is great and the location is okay, but the house was a huge turn off for us.
I would like to mention that Suzi did give us a 10% refund for the oven inconvenience.

Incredible location and facility. Perfect for two. Behind the house is dense jungle. Front yard opens to the ocean maybe 70 yards away. Calm warm ocean. The pictures for the listing don’t do the property justice. It looks good in the pictures but wait till you stand there in person. There is nothing more the property needs. You will enjoy it.

This house at the end of Anini road is very special. If you want a wonderful house for a peaceful vacation this is the one. Being from Louisiana I was a little nervous about no AC in July but it was no problem. The house cools down nicely and no AC was never an issue. Suzi is great and checked in with us a couple times when there was a tropical storm passing, she even went out of her way to go purchase flashlights and drop them off at the house in case the electricity went out.
The house has just about everything you would need, two tommy bahama beach chairs, a small cooler, an assortment of spices in the kitchen, the washer and drier are awesome. So from the house to the view to Anini beach to the hosts everything is perfect! Thanks Bob and Suzi ... we hope to return to Kauai one day and we definitely hope to stay at Punana Aloha again!

We had an amazing stay. Suzi was so responsive and helped us with things to do to make our trip complete. The house was very clean in a great location. Less than a minute you are on a beautiful secluded beach. We would definitely stay here again!

What a great place! At the end of Anini beach road the house is quiet and set back on a hill. Bed is comfortable, kitchen well stocked, nice porch to sit on and great breezes. You can snorkel off the beach right out front. Suzi came by and welcomed us the first day and to answer any questions. We were out and about every day. Stop at Costco or the Safeway in Kaapa to stock up. You'll need to bring or rent snorkel gear, everything else is on hand. The washer dryer were great as this was our second week/island. The last .2 miles of the road as mentioned is quite rough. You can certainly rent a higher ground clearance vehicle but after the first day we got pretty good at picking our way along very slowly with a standard nidsize
Overall what a great spot and we had an awesome trip. We were so lucky to find and book ths place

This lovely little cottage sits on a huge lot that backs up to what I can only describe as a jungle. It is literally steps from the ocean and sits near the end of the road so it's very private and quiet. There is a beautiful view of the ocean from the living room and a nice outdoor covered patio. Great for having a cup of coffee in the morning or dinner in the evening. The kitchen and living room are much larger than expected. You won't be disappointed!!

Love the property- so private and quiet- with a short walk to a near empty beach!

Just returned from our stay. We were looking for privacy and seclusion, and this cottage fit the bill perfectly. It is situated on the small bluff up from the road, with a beautiful beach just steps away. Suzi introduced herself and was very gracious. The king bed was very comfortable. We appreciated the kitchen and washer/dryer. The appliances could use updating and we would have liked a window unit AC during the Kona winds, but we didn't miss a beat and cooked breakfast nearly every morning. Like another reviewer said, consider renting a 4x4 if staying here because the last 0.2 miles of road is unpaved and pretty bumpy/sinky and needs to be negotiated at a snails pace like a tank going through a minefield.

Oh my goodness, this Anini Beach house is perfect for any couple who seeks comfortable and gracious accommodations with literally all the comforts of home, warm romantic starry nights with a glass of wine on the lanai, long sandy uncrowded beaches with magical snorkeling conditions just outside the front door, and the feeling of being a local in one of the most beautiful and lush places on earth. I can’t overstate the significant charms this beach house has to offer.
Suzi’s warm welcoming nature made us feel immediately at home, and we appreciated her advice as to the general lay of the land (and sea!).
We had just the best Kauai stay imaginable, and can’t wait to return to this adorable and obviously well-loved home on Anini Beach.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at a lovely traditional hawaiin cottage on a beautiful beach.

This home is located on the quiet end of Anini Beach. It has a somewhat camp-like feel, which we liked. The views from the house and the sound of the ocean are truly amazing. This rental was equipped with just about everything we needed. If we ran out of something, we simply replaced it. Suzi was very good about answering our questions and making sure we were enjoying our stay. We found the king bed to be very comfortable. We recommend renting a Jeep or another vehicle with high clearance as the last bit of road before the driveway is a bit rough. The good thing about this is that very few vehicles come down to this end of the road. The swimming and snorkeling are very good at this end of Anini beach.
5.0
Lots of room to spread out, well-equipped kitchen and beautiful surroundings. We love the natural cedar walls and ceilings, the ceiling fans and the tile floors and counters. The view of the ocean from the main room, kitchen and lanai are enchanting, and the beach is just just a short walk away. Hosts very responsive. There was more traffic and activity than we expected for being at the end of the road, but the house is set back and very private. A special vacation getaway!

This airy bungalow was delightful, with Anini Beach right across the road, as promised. Everything - from the accommodations to the view to the household conveniences was exactly as advertised. We loved the privacy and the easy access in and out. Thank you!!

My husband and I had a wonderful time, we were married two years prior, but do to covid it took longer for our honeymoon, we would love to come back in the future.

Although we have been to Kauai many times, this was the first time we stayed at a cottage. It was just the right size for the two of us and had everything we needed. We loved the stars at night and coffee on the beach in the early morning. The geckos in the kitchen were delightful. We spent the week snorkeling in the mornings and relaxing with a book in the afternoon. We were content to stay put and enjoy the peacefulness, we barely went anywhere else. A week of Paradise!
