About this house rental
The Shackleford Creek Mountain House is located approximately 102 miles or 2 hours south of Anchorage at the head waters of the Upper Kenai River. We are located on Snug Harbor Road in the shadow of Mt. Cecil Rhodes (4400 feet/1341 meters). We are surrounded by Kenai Borough and Chugach National Forest land comprising of spruce, birch, alder willow and aspen. The setting is quiet and private.
There are two good size bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queen sized sleigh bed with large bay windows that provide views of the surrounding mountains and woods. The second bedroom has a queen sized bed with a twin bunk bed. The loft is open with exposed wood beams and many large bay windows that provide commanding views of Mt Cecil Rhodes and surrounding woods. The feel is that of an enclosed tree house. The loft contains one queen four poster bed, two twin beds as well as a fold out double sized futon couch. The bathroom has a shower and claw-foot bathtub looking out at the surrounding forest.
The kitchen is fully outfitted with pots, pans, dishes, a full sized refrigerator, gas stove, dishwasher, microwave, bar seating for five along with a dining table.
A wood stove provides cozy heat and the outdoor 5-person hot-tub is perfect for relaxing after a hard day playing. The deck faces south, so when the sun is out the deck receives lots of sun, has a picnic table and gas grill. The separate gear shed is set up for storing your fishing gear and also has a chest freezer for storing your catch of the day.
It is a special place where we join family and friends to explore the mountains, lakes, rivers and trails that are located in and around Cooper Landing. We are located a mile from the town center where multiple fish and river guides base their operations. Access to the world renown Kenai River for salmon and trout fishing is minutes away. For those seeking to hike and mountain bike the trail heads are all within minutes of the house. The communities of Seward, Kenai and Homer are an easy drive from Cooper Landing and offer a broad spectrum of activities from Glacier viewing to Whale watching to Halibut fishing and more.
The design of the house is open and well suited for couples and families with kids older than 3 looking to explore the wonders of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula as well as kick back and enjoy the peace and solitude that is such a part of life here in Cooper Landing. We look forward to helping you share in the beauty of this place we call home.

Beautiful Home, Great Location
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Shackleford Creek Mountain House. The location is peaceful, yet conveniently close enough to hiking and fishing. The drive to Seward for the National Park is an easy and beautiful one. The house itself is comfortable and very clean. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds are oh-so-comfy. Our 11 year old grandson especially enjoyed having the loft and tv to himself. Both the host, Tim, and the concierge, Stefanie, are responsive and friendly. If we return to the Kenai Peninsula, we will definitely book this home again.

Perfect Retreat
My wife and I spent our 25th anniversary in Alaska. I wanted to plan something unique and special and Cooper Landing did not disappoint. Not only was the location ideal to see everything (Seward, Homer, Whittier) the house was the perfect retreat after long days of exploring. Unwinding in the hot tub, relaxing in the loft listening to nature, or eating breakfast looking at the magnificent mountains, this home had everything we could possibly want. And corresponding with the owners was a breeze - they were so timely and provided us with great information about the area. All around a joy.

Awesome Stay!
We had a great girls trip to this beautiful property. The cabin is so idyllic and beautifully set up - we were able to cook some great meals, explore the many trails in the area, paddle board on the lake and wind down in the hot tub. We can’t wait for a return visit!

Kenai Peninsula vacation
Property was excellent and as described. Served as a great base camp for exploring the entire Kenai Peninsula. Property owner was quick to respond to all questions we had and provided good information on the area. I would definitely recommend this property when staying on the Kenai.

Cooper landing
I can’t speak to the accuracy of the listing, my wife booked it.
The place is clean and well kept. The spiral stairway would be limiting for anyone with mobility issues. The TV is upstairs, so it seems to be placed for kids only. I would not recommend for 2 couples as someone would be upstairs with no bathroom. A family with 2 agile kids might like it.
There are huge windows everywhere, great for the beautiful view, but since it doesn’t get dark in AK in summer, light pours in at about 4 am making it difficult (for me, anyway, to get a full night’s sleep).
I didn’t see a container for recyling, I assume it’s done here as everywhere else, but there was no guidance and no special container.

Wonderful place.
Loved the house. We enjoyed the place very much. The hot tub was great. For four grown men the staircase is not convenient and one bathroom is not either. Those are the only downsides at all. Well kept place

Perfect start to our Alaska Adventure!!
The house was perfect and location was ideal for our stay in the Kenai Peninsula. Waking up to mountain views every day was amazing! It was an easy drive to Seward for activities (if you have a chance to do the Seward Helicopter flightseeing/dog sled tour do it! It was a family favorite!). We also did a fishing trip down the Kenai River that was fun and the scenery was gorgeous! For dinner try the Kingfisher Roadhouse, the Caribou Stroganoff was delicious!! We would definitely recommend a stay at The Shackleford House!

Sophisticated Charm
This amazing property is renovated with high end style. It is inviting, comfortable, and beautiful. Being nestled in what we found to be our favorite part of Alaska makes it all that more special. Whether you are in the area to relax, explore, fish or hunt this would make for a perfect hub. The accommodations would be equally enjoyable for a family get-away as they would for a fishing camp with freezers availble. We enjoyed every minute in this perfect home including the hot tub after a day of hiking!

Loved this house!
The Shackleford Creek Mountain House was everything advertised and more. First, the house: it’s absolutely gorgeous. Tons of windows, lots of natural light, and a vaulted ceiling in the living room make it feel even more spacious than it is. The kitchen is open to the living area so cooking on vacation didn’t seem like a chore! It’s well-stocked with all the necessities and has ample dishes, glassware, etc. The beds are comfortable and the place is immaculately clean. We loved the loft area for morning coffee and reading...the spiral stairs were fine for this group of 50-somethings :). The hot tub was clean and hot, the patio furniture was lovely, and our favorite feature was the wood stove. Tim provides all the wood you need so we quickly got into the habit of starting a fire in the mornings to take the chill off the house.
But what really put this house over the top for us is the location. Cooper Landing is a great base camp for doing all kinds of activities...we went to Seward for a sightseeing cruise, back that way another day to meet some Iditerod dogs and mushers, hiked to a waterfall and also did a half-day float on the Kenai river from the bridge in town. There are several good restaurants nearby and also grocery and liquor stores to get things you forgot or to restock.
All in all, this was an amazing stop on our two-week Alaskan adventure. Tim was responsive and sent clear, easy to follow directions and great general information. If the Shackleford Creek Mountain House is available for your dates, scoop it up before someone else does, you won’t be sorry!

Amazing experience!
Perfect step off point for hiking, fishing, traveling to surrounding areas such as Seward, Skilak lake, Portage, and Anchorage. Our stay was wonderful and we had no issues. I highly recommend staying at the Shackleford Creek Mountain House.

Amazing place to stay while in Alaska
The Shackleford Creek Mountain House was our first stay during our two week trip in Alaska and by far was our favorite. The house is very clean, very unique, and has all the features needed to make your stay relaxing. The local area of Cooper Landing was amazing as well with the scenery, hiking trails, and amenities. My wife's favorite experience during the stay here was seeing the Cow / Baby Moose walking through the yard. Communications with the owner were very efficient and access to the house was easy. The drive from Anchorage was about 2 hours and had some beautiful views. We plan to come back to Alaska again in the future and for sure want to stay here again. Can't say enough good things about this house / location.
