About this house rental
WE TAKE OUR RESPONSIBILITY VERY SERIOUSLY TO PROVIDE A SANITARY, SAFE HOME FOR YOU.
If you’re looking for a standardized, franchised, typical vacation setting, this is not for you. If you are looking for a cookie-cutter home, with a chemically treated treeless yard, this is not for you. But if you’d like to rediscover the best of Old-Florida living, our cottage showcasing lush, mature landscaping and overlooking the beautiful St. Sebastian River, with lush, mature landscaping is just the kind of place you’re looking for!
Remember when Florida was known as a semitropical paradise, a place to relish indoor-outdoor living, where your comfortable, casual vacation bungalow was designed to catch the breezes? Remember when palm trees swaying in the breeze at the water's edge were more of an attraction than mini-golf and T-shirt huts? Remember when beaches were peaceful and secluded, and you didn’t have to spend time searching for a private spot to lay down your beach towels? Thankfully, those places aren't gone entirely!
Just a mile upstream from the Indian River lagoon and a short drive from the unspoiled beaches of the barrier islands, follow the sandy lanes along the banks of the Saint Sebastian River to this cheerful cottage in the heart of Sebastian’s historic Roseland community. This is one of those little Florida enclaves that haven’t changed very much over the decades-- because the residents have fought to maintain the character of the place that drew them there in the first place.
Our non-smoking home features two comfortable bedrooms with crisp, all-cotton sheets. Stylishly casual and colorful midcentury furnishings lend a peaceful air to this quiet getaway. Italian glass terrazzo floors reflect the Florida sunshine passing through classically styled awning windows. Catch a relaxing view of the river from the living room and glassed-in Florida room.
The charming nostalgic kitchen boasts the original custom-built Dade County pine cabinets and vintage Formica countertops, still in fine condition. We’ve also updated this fully stocked kitchen with modern appliances for the best of old and new. The cupboards store an eclectic array of retro tableware, lots of cookware, blender, Keurig and an automatic drip coffeemaker, and a large assortment of kitchen utensils. In fact, many of our guests have remarked on how well equipped the entire cottage is, to the extent that they say that all they need to bring on their next visit is a toothbrush and a few changes of clothes!
The original 1948 yellow and pink(!) bathroom is well stocked with natural-fiber towels, hair dryer, and first-aid kit. For your convenience, we provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
A separate utility room includes a washer and dryer, and there is even an enclosed rear porch where you can drop your things on returning from the beach.
Or skip the beach and step out onto the pool deck in the fenced backyard! The recently installed pool featuring a swanky tanning shelf remains comfortable year 'round with solar heating in the winter. We provide thirsty beach towels, pool floats, and noodles. Soak up Florida's famous rays in the lounge chairs or at the outdoor dining table. The backyard is no barren plot of grass, but is lushly landscaped with mature plantings...your own little private tropical garden! Weber gas grill provided.
When you're ready to move to the front patio, enjoy with an unobstructed view of the pristine and wildlife-friendly Sebastian River. Have your breakfast at the patio table while watching the seagulls and pelicans fish for theirs. There is a smaller covered patio outside the Florida room/sleeping porch, so you can decide just how “outdoorsy” you want to be.
Directly across the sandy drive is the Roseland Community Park. Here you can stroll along the banks of the St. Sebastian, or take advantage of the public dock to fish, read, or just catch the sunset. Sit quietly for a while, and you’re likely to spot dolphins and manatees as they play and forage. There’s no question that you’ll soon be visited by some of Sebastian’s famous pelicans.
With the Sebastian River right across the way, and with the Indian River, Intracoastal Waterway, and Atlantic Ocean only minutes away, you'll never run out of things to do here.
The beaches on the barrier island, across the Indian River lagoon, are practically deserted. Take a ride on the "Sebastian River Queen Jungle tour," a pontoon boat tour of the Sebastian River that passes in front of your vacation cottage, on a photo safari quest for dolphins, herons, and alligators. Like surfing? The Sebastian Inlet is one of the top spots on Florida's coast to surf. Feeling really daring? Skydive Sebastian, billing itself as "Florida's most scenic drop zone," is only a mile away.
If you should tire of the peace and quiet, the attractions of Orlando are just an hour and a half away. Or tour the facilities of NASA's Cape Canaveral, an hour to the north. If you’re lucky enough to be here at the time of a space launch, watch the northeastern skies at launch time for a special treat.
Need more room than this cottage offers? Only a few doors away is our Historic Riverfront Cabana guesthouse with pool and boat dock.
We have owned and have personally managed this cottage with constant hands-on attention to detail for almost 20 years and pride ourselves in providing a memorable vacation experience. Our own home is only a few doors away, so while we completely respect your privacy and right to quiet enjoyment while you're here, we're always just a quick phone call away if you have questions, concerns or issues.
If you’re looking for luxury accommodations, prepackaged predictability, or a gated manicured resort that could be anywhere in the world… keep looking. But if you’re like us and love the Florida that has enchanted out-of-town visitors for decades, spend a little time here. You’ll be glad you did.
*Please note that we recommend traveler's insurance in case you have to cancel or postpone your trip for any reason.

Very relaxing. As a nurse, just needed time away. Life can start again.

We were very happy with our choice to stay at this house. The pool was the best part, all the neccessities, and toys to relax, float around and be at peace.
Our purpose was to get away from load fireworks for the weekend and mission accomplished. Neighborhood was very quite and respectful of everyones peace.
House was tucked away in a litte oasis but still close enough to any food or enteratainment some one may be seeking.
Host was excellent about communicating all the neccessary info, and made themselves available if needed.
We even got to meet the neighborhood Peacock!
Great Stay!!!

Not the first time staying here. Wont be the last. Great place.

Enjoyed our stay. Very relaxed with the atmosphere of Old Florida. Brad the peacock, was an added attraction that we all enjoyed. Location was excellent. Near shopping, restaurants, natural areas and beautiful beaches.
We also enjoyed the luxury of our own pool.

Great host very informative and accommodating. Well stocked kitchen and welcome gift was a nice touch.
We rented two of there properties one on the water and this cottage not on the water but only steps from the other. We had five adults and one kid. The main house is full of history and a beautiful get away back in time. The river access is great with dock and large lot to bring your paddle gear. The cottage is old FL with mid-century modern deco with private pool. Most definitely stay here…

Cute cottage. It felt like we traveled back to the 40's. The attention to detail with the home decor, terrazzo floors, and the dishes. No detail was over looked. The pool was a nice treat.
Glenn was a perfect host. Took the time to share information about the area and included suggestions for attractions and restaurants.
We can't wait to visit again.

Just as advertised
First, Glenn is a fantastic host. He made point to greet us personally to show us around the property. We had a small glitch shortly after he left and he was back to fix the issue in five minutes. Second, the place is just as advertised. It is thoughtfully appointed in period style from the clocks and furnishings right down to the glassware. We felt like we had stepped back into the old Florida of the 1960s. Kitschy (in a good way), cool and comfortable.

We were impressed with everything the house and location had to offer. Secluded enough for much needed R&R, yet close enough to everything to enjoy going out. The house was clean, comfortable beds, towels, and a relaxing pool to cool off in. We enjoyed it so much, we stayed and extra night and our son and fur babies came to enjoy with us! Thank you Glen for the personal touches, personal greeting, and the snacks. Highly recommend for anyone wanting vintage charm with updated amenities.

Our family of 6 really enjoyed a short weekend at this home. Had absolutely everything you needed, we grill and enjoyed the pool and could not have asked for more. Did venture out to Squid Lips to eat out one night which is right on the water, and it was great, less than a 10-minute drive, I think. Publix and Walmart are not far at all to stock up the fridge. House is decorated mid-century which we love. Sat at the table and played cards and just really enjoyed some much-needed family time. We are definitely planning a return trip; the host was great!

Great relaxing weekend
This was a great relaxing weekend away with our dogs. From the moment we arrived and met with Glenn it was like stepping back into old Florida. The house is decorated in a charming MCM style with attention to detail. Fell in love with the Dade City Pine cabinets, so happy they have the house decorated with this style instead of the boring grey paint and granite everywhere.
The homemade cookies were DELICIOUS and we wished there were more.
Everything was very clean and everything well stocked, it was nice to have coffee set up with all you could need even with fresh cream in the fridge ready to go after a long drive.
The pool was our favorite part of the house. Sitting out by the pool with all the trees was like sitting in your own tropical oasis. Quiet neighborhood where you can just sit and enjoy yourself away from the busy hustle bustle of the city.
We also enjoyed the fishing pier just a short walk away.
Publix was close by and very convenient to pick up snacks. Along with some great restaurants and beaches just a short drive away.
If you’re looking to get away and unplug and recharge this is the perfect place to do it!

This property is truly unique! Glenn, our host greeted us and gave us a tour while he explained the notable history of the house and it’s functions and features. Welcome treats were provided, including amazing cookies that we believe must be homemade! Glenn also gave us great local restaurant advice which was much appreciated. The house is small, but very clean, and decorated in a fun, retro style. The natural landscape is lovely and includes stately bamboo trees among other indigenous plants. The property is large and overlooks the beautiful, Indian River. There are kayaks available for your use, and a pier overlooking the river where you can sit and relax. The vintage, oversized pool is impressive, with Lion fountains, and has its own fascinating history. We also enjoyed meeting Brad, the peacock, who would visit at the window occasionally. The house is an idyllic vacation spot and we definitely plan to visit again!

Florida Atomic Beauty
If you love the mid century modern era, here is a wonderful Florida example! We had so much fun at Glenn’s place and he was the best owner I’ve had the pleasure of renting from. The house and location are spectacular. There are too many features to list but here are a few standouts: private pool, lush greenery, atomic era furnishings, scenic river, and the best homemade chocolate shortbread cookies! Thank you Glenn for letting us share your little slice of paradise.

Old Florida Vibe
My family and I absolutely loved this sweet cottage with classic Florida room!! Glenn was an exceptional host and great communicator! This sweet cottage was clean, well stocked, and had everything we needed. The pool was a refreshing, tropical hide away with fishtail palms, hibiscus, and sea grapes!! Husband enjoyed fishing from the community dock, as I walked our dog around the quiet community, and our teenager enjoyed the AC in a wonderfully decorated MCM space. We took a couple of day trips to KSC, Universal, and the beach but each time was ready to get back to the cottage and relax!
Was so spoiled by the host treats, lovely salted chocolate chip shortbread cookies, tropical bouquets, and fabulous plantain chips!! Had to restock the plantain chips at the conveniently located Publix before heading home. Looked hard for Brad the peacock, only heard him though! Maybe next time will get to see him!! Thank you so much!!

Inside property was very comfortable, outside yard needs cleaning up, tree/shrub over growth. Pool needs rails to assist getting in and out. Need outside back lighting . Otherwise an enjoyable visit.

Glenn, the owner, was the best: warm, accomodating and responsive. He went the extra mile to make our stay easy and memorable. The house and pool were super clean and well-stocked. The beds were soft. Some of the furniture and appliances should be updated or disposed. The neighborhood was quiet. The pool was a hit! Can’t be grateful enough that Glenn was a great host.

We wanted to find somewhere to get away from the tourism and craziness... this was the perfect peaceful getaway for the family. None of us wanted to leave, not even the family dog. We hope to be back very soon. Sebastian is a wonderful place with many waterside restaurants, we tried two on this trip. We took a boat down the Sebastian river and spent the rest of the trip lounging in the pool.
