The property was beautiful, we enjoyed it immensely. It was close to other great experiences . Our family joined us a couple of days and we made dinner and another grilled on the wonderful patio with the beautiful view of the mountains. We will be back. Such a great time.

The home was more than we expected with all the antiques . The history of the home was interesting and we felt comfortable and at home as soon as we walked in.

Idle Hour is our favorite spot for relaxation and fun.

A historic cabin with all the modern amenities. If you are a history buff this is a great retreat for you! Filled with antiques and very charming. Situated on a 50 acre farm it is a peaceful respite with several old farm building to explore. The host is very responsive and provided several suggestions of nearby places to visit during our stay. I would like to mention however that true to the time period of when this was originally built, the ceilings are low with exposed beams, but for me that just added to the rustic appeal.

My first impression when I walked through the door was that we had stepped back in time. My grandparents lived in a log cabin when I was a small child. No electricity nor running water. So glad that you modernized those things. I wanted to just unplug and enjoy the serenity of it all. Glad to see you did have wi-fi just in case we needed it. Only issue for us was negotiating the stairs, we were all in our 70’s. Too old to climb steep steps. So we had my sister in law and myself in the master bedroom. My husband slept in living room on the sofa to keep from climbing the steps. He said it was very comfortable. Our Chihuahua Rose is 13 and has cataracts. She ran around outside like she was a pup. Matter of fact in 3 short days she lost 5 oz. Must have been the sweet clover grass. I can brag to my friends that I stayed in a 1860’s cabin. Thank you so much for an enjoyable trip.

The perfect setting for an old fashioned Family Christmas! Laura was a fabulous hostess, and had the cabin perfect for our arrival. The cabin was extremely well appointed with everything you need to hunker down for the holiday. Generous bedrooms, bathrooms, and living areas—and an amazing, bucolic family farmstead setting! We’ll be back!

We loved the property and the ability to walk with our dogs and the antiques in this historic cabin. Well set up and ready for us. I think description should say challenging for persons over 6 feet tall.

We LOVE this old farm house - the charm, the acreage, the setting, the layout, the location. Highly recommended if you want a relaxing place to stay. Not recommended if you are not interested in restful, quiet, contemplative location.

This property is an iconic piece of Tenn history! This family has done an amazing job of maintaining the original feel of an 1860’s house and property but with all of the conveniences of modern day. I could have stayed for a week!! My dad is originally from this area (he is now 90) and we were there visiting family and enjoying the annual Heritage days they have on Main Street, the house is so cozy and so full of history we didn’t even turn on the tv for all the books about the area and history of the house. We built a fire in the fire pit overlooking the mountains with the leaves all different colors of red and orange, just amazing to sit and look at God’s creation and feel blessed to have been apart of this experience, we can’t wait to go back and stay a bit longer!

When we got to Idle Hour, the first thing I did was Marco Polo my bff, my mom, my brother, and my daughter to show them the property and insist they return with us someday. It’s a quaint and beautiful house in the heart of very pretty countryside. It is like stepping back in time with all the modern conveniences. We hiked up to the ridge to enjoy the view. It was steep, but it only took about 15 mins and was certainly worth it. The hosts were so responsive (even if they root for the wrong football team haha!). We enjoyed Coffee at the Kyle (get the black, red, or purple eye - they are great) and the sweet downtown area. We will be back!

This was a nice cabin to stay in. It is rustic but that's what makes it so great. Everything you need is supplied.

Favorite Getaway
This was our third time staying at this relaxing farmhouse and we’re already planning our next trip. The house and grounds are immaculate. The beds are super comfy and the kitchen has everything that you need to make breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I recommend that you take the trail to the top of the mountain to see the gorgeous view.

A Place To Re-Set Your Family To A Simpler Way Of Life
Panoramic and Refreshing, A place to sit at the dining room table and watch your little dog madly chase Fireflies, which were foreign to him. I taught my 14-year-Old Daughter how to drive on the roads that criss cross the property. The boys put down their cell phones and tossed footballs while deer critiqued their passes and bunny rabbits coexisted with the groundhog who lumbered through the yard twice daily. Wild Turkeys strutted their stuff and Me and the Missus just relaxed for a change.

Relaxing get a away
Laura was quick to answer the few questions we had. She also provided suggestions of places to eat and things to see in area. We tried a few of her suggestions and they were all excellent. Loved the back porch and back patio areas.

Relaxing, great property
Peaceful relaxing property. Lots of out buildings to explore. Enjoyed the outdoor firepit, watching Deer and Gofers. Cabin is a step back in time. Authentic old log cabin, but you don't sacrifice amenities. Nice kitchen and enjoyed the ease of the gas fireplace.

Your property offered our family and friends an opportunity to unwind and reflect on the passing of our Mom. It was a perfect place for nature walks, exploring old buildings, gathering around the fire and sharing stories under the stars. We had an awesome time and very grateful for our time spent together at The Idle Hour Farm.

A taste of how it used to be
Maybe you grew up on a farm in the country like I did or loved to visit the grandparents on their farm when you were young. Here's a chance to re-visit those fond times.
And, if you're like me and love all things antique, you will be surrounded by them to admire.
Renting this farm is a very unique experience. Peaceful for sipping coffee at the kitchen table and watching the resident woodpecker just outside the picture window. Expansive for exploring and photographing the fields and woods. Quiet for reading a good book before a cozy nap.
One main reason we chose it was to give our doggos some freedom to run and play unleashed for a time. They absolutely loved their experience as much as we did. They did not miss exploring a square foot of this property and it was nice to let them loose without the normal worries of auto traffic. They wore themselves out every day and were melancholy to leave like we were.
If you want to lose yourself and really relax from the hassles of 21st century life, go visit the 19th century at Idle Hour Farm.

Absolutely Beautiful
The property was such a unique and beautiful place to stay for a weekend! We visited in the fall during the end of peak season but certainly didn’t miss a thing. Rogersville is a quaint little town with a great coffee shop we visited. The host was extremely communicative and kind, the property itself was clean and well stocked with anything you could need, and it was a fantastic piece of history to enjoy. Thank you so much for letting us stay!
