About this house rental
The Castle house is located on a quiet street inside the gated community of Lakeside near The Williams Tennis Courts,The Memorial Garden, and the Grindley Aquatic Center (the pool) which opened in July of 2017. The pool is just a two minute walk on 6th Street just beyond the tennis courts.
The spacious home features a library in the turret, curved staircase, and updated kitchen. In addition, the first floor features a family room, large dining room, bedroom with queen size bed, laundry room, and full bath. The master bedroom is upstairs and features a king size ergonomic bed with a remote control to raise and lower the head and feet. Besides the library and remodeled full bath, there are two other bedrooms upstairs that sleeps 6 people. Bed linens and bath towels provided. (Beach towels are not provided).
Large front yard with off street parking for 3 vehicles make this a preferred location for family gatherings. You are welcome to use the bicycles and the gas grill. The Lakeside community is a step back in time to a place where values, traditions, and family remain the focus.
In addition to the book store, several shops and boutiques, movie theatre, parks, beach area, mini golf, and shuffleboard, families can also enjoy live evening entertainment, art classes, worship services, picnics in the park, and a variety of exhibits and art shows throughout the summer. Bicycles, walking, and golf carts are the main modes of transportation at Lakeside.
During the off season (fall thru spring) the house makes a great venue for Girls' Night Out. The town of Marblehead is home to many restaurants and boutiques. Enjoy a massage or take a group painting class. There are no gate fees during the off-season.

We have stayed at many rentals in Lakeside. This is one of the best. Great location, big yard, and unique property. Owners were attentive to all of our needs and readily available. Also, plenty of parking. Perfect for groups of 6-8.

Long-time Lakeside renters, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Castle with one exception. There weren't any empty shelves or drawers in the kitchen for us to use to store our own supplies, so the counters were filled up in the small kitchen during our stay. The owners are very generous to let you use their things, but there's just too much there to make it comfortable for the additional things renters bring. Other than that, a delight! (Particularly happy for having very comfortable beds!)

Our annual cousin trip was exceptional because of staying in this Castle! The home was clean, comfortable and close to beautiful views of Lake Erie. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lakeside and would highly recommend it to anyone. The access to ferries for both islands was close and there are many activities right in town. We felt like queens...

Absolutely Wonderful Property, fees kind of steep
I loved the castle house, it was beautiful and perfect for our stay. I would say the extra fees were very steep. On top of having to pay cleaning fees etc, we had gate fees for the entire week, which was listed in the contract, and we also had parking fees. The parking fee confused the heck out of me because the driveway was part of the property, we didn't park on the street. I think the owners were doing the best they could, but best go in with your eyes WIDE open that the price you see first is not what it will be. Also a bit annoyed that the linens were provided, but when we got there the rules said they all had to be washed, dried and folded before we left. At 10 in the morning. So we spent the entire last day trying to wash and dry blankets. The dryer didn't work properly and honestly when we communicated this to the owners they didn't have any help on how to fix it. We eventually figured out how to dry them, but it was a large hassle, so I would say 100% plan to bring your own linens, which is a bit annoying since there is a rather hefty cleaning fee that does not include that. I would suggest that those rules be amended, but the rest of the stay was very nice.

Vacation at the Lakeside "Castle"
Charming and historic home with a booklet of interesting facts concerning the building of this stone house. The current owners were delightful and gave us a quick tour before we unloaded our vehicle. The property has been well-maintained by the owners and it is clear they intend to continue renovations.

DO NOT recommend!! Very unprofessional property owner.
We love Lakeside, but I would suggest finding one of the other many properties to stay at. This owner was a nightmare! The owner left us the key with a noted keychain, giving instructions to return the key to a specific address. It turns out, this was an old key chain! The owner called me shouting, saying I should have known it was an old keychain. It was absurd. Even after giving them they address THEY left for me, she continued to berate me over the VRBO message system about the key. At one point she stated that I lacked the common sense to know it was an old keychain. She was very condescending and unprofessional. I live several hours away, this was her communication mistake and she was acting like it was my problem to fix in a very rude way. Aside from their subpar communication, the contract will also say that you have to wash, dry & fold ALL of the towels and sheets prior to the 10am checkout, even though they require you to pay a house cleaning fee. We were doing laundry ALL morning, even after waking up very early to start it. We had to request late check out just to get it all done because we had 5 sets of sheets to wash and their washer/dryer was very slow. This was not a really inconvenient way to end our vacation. One more note I will mention, the owners have bikes listed under amenities, however they initially locked the shed where they were located. Hours later they did unlock it but the bikes were in very bad condition and were not safe to ride. Overall, I would NOT stay here again. My husband’s family has been a part of this Lakeside community for several many decades. This community is known for being friendly and kind, but this owner was anything but that! We were all very surprised by this behavior and lack of hospitality.

Beautiful area and walking distance to the Lake
Great Location for the men’s fishing trip. A walking distance to a park and the beautiful lake. The bicycles on premises was a plus for my 7 year niece. Only a mile to the Lighthouse. We always love eating at Diannas restaurant which was close. House was fully stocked with cookware etc and plenty of towels. House was clean and like a home away from home. A big plus for me and the husband was a floor fan! Can’t sleep without that noise. We would stay here again.

The house was perfect for our family vacation/getaway! Rebecca and Dean welcomed us upon our arrival and were very courteous, welcoming, and helpful! There were 8 of us staying in the house and it was very comfortable. All the rooms are very spacious, the house was very clean and well stocked with towels and bedding. There were plenty of bikes for all the kids to ride and even a few of the adults. The neighborhood was so welcoming and relaxing. It was a little difficult registering for some of the activities (pool time, crafts, etc.) however that was expected due to the COVID restrictions. We enjoyed going to the lake to swim. We rented kayaks and paddle boards one of the days. Lots of fun all around!Thank you so much for welcoming us into your home! We had an amazing time!

Perfect
This home is beautiful and in the perfect location for the “new” activities happening at Lakeside. Next door to the new pool and restaurant and a quick walk or bike ride to the downtown shopping area. Dean and Rebecca were very helpful and definitely put love into this property. Thanks for allowing us to visit!

Modern comfort, Historic charm
The Castle is far and away the most pleasant and comfortable place we’ve stayed in Lakeside. The proximity to the pool is great, and the hosts are competent, patient, and helpful. Highly recommended.

The Castle at Lakeside
My family loved staying at the castle. The location is very quiet. The convenience to the new pool was great, my husband and I enjoyed the morning lap swims.
The house was clean and had all the amenities for a very comfortable week.
The books about the history of the house were wonderful. Learning about the first owner and builder of this beautiful property was very interesting.
We truly our stay at the Castle.

Perfect for multi-generational families.
It was the perfect house for us to host our children and grandchildren. It is two blocks from the new pool, where the grandchildren would have spent every waking hour. They have a dining table large enough to comfortably seat everyone. Extra bikes were available in the shed and a gas grill for cooking freshly caught fish.

Efficient & Clean
We love Lakeside Chautauqua and vacation there yearly. We absolutely enjoyed everything about our stay at The Castle at Lakeside. It was roomy, comfortable and close to the grandchildren's activities. We highly recommend it to our friends, and hope to make it a traditional meeting place for our families every summer. The owners keep everything clean, efficient and share photo's/stories of the rich history of The Castle. It is purely and simply a delightful vacation place to stay at LKSD.

Very well kept house
We were met by the owners who walked us through the house. They were very friendly and hospitable. The house was very comfortable. We had two families staying together and we never felt cramped. Everything in the house is very comfortable. The house is far from the shops and beach, but the family offers their bikes to use to get to the pier more comfortably. I would stay there again.

Outstanding Lakeside Home
Listing description was spot on, owners were super easy to deal with and very accommodating. The house is very comfortable and has a fascinating history (it's one of the stops on the tour). Owners provided bikes to use and even left us spices and condiments to use. We had a great time swimming in the lake, playing shuffleboard, tennis and mini golf and taking classes at the Rhein Center. Caught some beautiful sunsets and ate donuts, chicken tenders and ice cream at the Patio. Meant to go to some of the concerts, but had too much fun just hanging out! Highly recommend this rental for families with children; lots of space for grandparents (the first floor bedroom and bath are fairly separate from the living and dining rooms, so nice and quiet for going to bed early), with upstairs bedrooms for the kids and grandchildren. Their favorite space was the cute little upstairs library, mine was the patio:). Thank you for a wonderful stay!
