About this apartment rental
**COVID - 19 Extra Special Precautions: Our guests and staff's health is our top priority. Our cleaners are taking every precaution when cleaning this home and making sure it is done up to CDC standards. We are going above and beyond to ensure all surfaces and touch points are being cleaned thoroughly and disinfected (including all light switches, doorknobs, cabinet handles, remotes, etc.). You will have self check in and no interaction with anyone. We will make sure to do any routine maintenance before or after your stay to make sure we give our guests and staff the social distancing needed.**
We've been lucky to travel all over the world, and we’ve stayed at short term rental homes in NYC's East Village with creaking walk-up stairs, pre-war hotels in Paris with tiny elevators, and soaring towers of glass and steel overlooking Tokyo -- so we've designed the apartment with the things we think are most important.
We just installed solar panels so your stay is even better for the environment.
Note: we adopted a rescue puppy in Jan 2019, who we let out for potty breaks. She never goes into the apartment, and we don't leave her out for extended periods unsupervised, so you may hear barking from time to time! She goes upstairs with us to bed around 10pm, so she'll definitely be quiet after that time.
The bed.
High end hotels spend a lot of money making sure you have a comfortable bed - and more money advertising it! When you travel, you want to rest, and the key is a comfortable bed.
Our queen-size bed has a Tempurpedic memory foam mattress, one of the most comfortable mattresses we've ever slept on. Memory foam cradles and conforms to your body and dampens vibrations -- if your partner gets up/gets in while you're sleeping, you won't notice it.
Even the sofa bed, a Gus Modern flip-out sofa bed, has a firm, comfortable-for-a-sofa-bed mattress. It doesn't have the cheap thin coil over a metal bar feeling that a lot of sofa beds suffer from. It's not as comfortable as the Tempurpedic, but it's great for a sofa bed!
Note that 3 or 4 guests in this space results in a lot more wear and tear, and cleaning; each guest over 2 people is an additional $30 a night.
If you're using the sofa bed, please let us know and we will leave sheets, duvet cover, and pillows out for you if at all possible for your convenience - otherwise, you can find them in the bedroom closets (shelf and drawers). Please use the sheets and put the pillow cases (pillows and spare duvet already have a hypoallergenic cover on them which are not cases!) and duvet cover on over the pillows and duvet! Also, we will provide 2 mattress protector pads, use them under the sheets for extra comfort and to protect the sofa bed.
The bedroom also has a wall mounted, high end Samsung flat panel TV. We have over-the-air HD channels (the major networks), as well as a Roku Internet streaming box where you can watch HBO, SHO, AMC, Amazon Prime programming, FX and other channels. You can also log in to your own Netflix account, if you want!
The kitchen.
When you travel, you'll want some key amenities to make your stay easy and comfortable. If you're not staying at a hotel with room service and a mini-bar, or you're travelling with kids, you'll want to be able to stock up on some food and drink, or even cook some breakfast before you get out and about. Our kitchen has cutting boards, knives, dishes, cups, flatware, fridge, freezer, filtered water, toaster, microwave, stove and oven, and dishwasher.
Seattle is a coffee town! We have coffee beans, filtered water, a grinder and French Press, and an electric kettle. And we provide a basket of snacks, because if you get in late, you may want a quick bite (though we'd recommend North Star, a nearby 24 hour diner within walking distance).
We have a few specialty small appliances, too: a juicer, a rice maker, and a blender.
The space.
We designed a simple, clean and modern living space for you. We have bedside and sofa-side LED lighting, an Aeron chair for laptop work time, granite countertops in the kitchen, simple polished concrete floors (and slippers), radiant wall panel heat to keep you comfortable and still be energy efficient and of course, WiFi. We even have a laptop you can log into (on guest account) to check mail, and a USB power source in case you forgot your AC adapter. If you care about such things, our house is certified as LEED Platinum for energy efficiency and sustainability.
We don't have air conditioning, Seattle rarely needs it (and this unit stays cool as it's well insulated and is the bottom floor of a climate controlled home) but we do have a ceiling fan in the bedroom. We find that even on the top floor of our house during 95F days, a ceiling fan is all we need to sleep comfortably in the evening as Seattle always cools down at night.
We also have floor fans in the closet! But if you really need air conditioning, you'll find a lot of Seattle homes don't have it.
We have towels, hand towels, wash cloths, bath robes, shampoo, soap and conditioner, and a hairdryer. We have a dishwasher, and a washer/dryer unit for people staying 3 or more days.
For safety, we have a wall plug flashlight (in case of power outage!), first aid kit, smoke/CO detectors and fire extinguishers.
We're away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, within easy access of great parts of Seattle by bus, car, even foot and bike!
And we have a licensed onsite massage therapist!
Location
Greenwood is a great, quiet neighborhood to escape the din of Downtown but still be able to get around via car or bus. It's 30-40 min car ride from Seatac Airport, depending on traffic. (Traffic in Seattle is the great unknown -- it can really change your trip!) There's plenty of street parking, as long as you don't block a mailbox during mail days and times. If you have an electric vehicle, we can arrange L2 charging time for a nominal fee.
We're in North Seattle and our place is convenient to some of the best things Seattle has -- the neighborhoods of Ballard, Wallingford, Fremont have some of the best restaurants Seattle has to offer. We're near Chuck's Hop Shop on NW 85th St; it's a 9 minute drive to Uneeda Burger in Fremont on a weekend. You can explore Seattle by renting bikes from us, if you want; we have two brand new Raleigh town bikes, one with a rack and bag and lock, for a small fee; you're responsible for making sure the bikes get back to us! They fit 5'3" - 5'8" and 5'8" - 5'11" riders.
Greenwood has some great places within walking distance. You can walk to our favorite restaurant, Brunswick & Hunt, about 15-20 minutes. Greenwood town center has good (getting to be great) dining (Flint Creek), lighter fare (Preserve & Gather; Coyle's), coffee (Herkimer), ice cream and root beer (Bluebird), groceries (Fred Meyer).
If you want to get downtown by car, it is -- depending on traffic -- 20-30 minute drive. (Note: you'll have to find parking which can be a challenge downtown and Cap Hill, so Lyft and Uber can be actually economical.)
Bus lines -- the D, 28, 45 are also blocks away (28 and 45) to a 5-10 minute walk (the D). These will get you to Cap Hill, U District, and downtown easily. The 28 goes right to Safeco field, about a 38 minute bus ride away.

I have been staying at this VRBO since 2016. I can’t think of any improvements that the hosts could do.
I always look forward to staying at this VRBO.

Very nice place. Communication was excellent. I was given lots of clear helpful instructions. Only hiccup was that something happened with vrbo telling the hosts I checked out at 4am somehow when I did not.

Perfect location
Clean, convenient and perfect for my husband and I to use while visiting our son. The bed was super comfortable and the whole place was equipped with anything one might need. Also, we were comfortable during a hot spell with just the fans. We highly recommend this unit.

Very pleasant stay
I'm a little overdue in writing this, but we stayed here back in mid to late November of 2019. We actually live very close to the home and needed a place to stay while our hardwood floors were being refinished so this VRBO was very convenient. The owners, Bernie and Stefanie are very responsive and easy to communicate with. They go out of their way to ensure your comfort in their guest suite and respond quickly if you have questions, which we did. Street parking was easy out in front of the home and you essentially have a downstairs unit (with separate entry) all to yourself. We were there during colder weather and the concrete floors can be a little cool, but the radiant wall heaters work quickly and the slippers they provide at the front door helped out tremendously. We were able to use the well appointed kitchen for meal prep and generally felt very comfortable in the unit. For those visiting from out of town, this home is very close to a large grocery store, coffee shops and not far from pleasant neighborhood retail area with shops/bars/restaraunts. It's close to major arterials that you can take to downtown Seattle. The home is located in a quiet neighborhood but not far from amenities. If we are ever temporarily "displaced" from our own home, we wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

We enjoy our stay at this VRBO. It is clean and tidy and located in a safe and quiet neighborhood. They have a dog, but you only hear her when you approach and she is not running about in the yard. I will stay here again and would recommend.

Great location, great hosts.
We spent 9 days recently here and were very happy with our stay. We were interested in a place close to our daughter and this place was perfect. It is only a 5 minute walk to a grocery store, drug store etc. Hosts were very helpful and welcoming. We rented a car from Enterprise which was only a 5 minute walk away. The transit system will get you where you want to go, if you choose that option. The unit is very well equipped. We plan to stay there again when we visit!

Clean and comfortable
I really enjoyed my stay in this modern, daylight basement apartment. It was clean, comfortable and quiet. The full kitchen is stocked with cookware, dishes and utensils. The full bath has a supply of eco-friendly toiletries. There was plenty of street parking. Great location, easy to get to downtown by car, bus or cab. Great neighborhood with shopping and restaurants. The unit is located in the back of the house, I entered from the front yard and the walkway is gravel, could be hard to pull luggage. Also there were stone steps down into the yard, may be difficult for some to negotiate with arms full. A couple of problems reported to the owner: the tv remote did not work and the large towel rack in the bathroom came off the wall when I grabbed a towel. Also the queen size bed and the couch are very low to the floor, difficult to get in and out of if you are tall. Overall a great place to stay.

This was our second stay at this rental and we enjoyed it just as much the second time around. It's clean, comfortable and convenient to the Greenwood area. We would happily return on our next trip.

Pleasant stay in Greenwood
The apartment is neat, tidy, clean, and had everything we needed for a two week stay. Located in a quiet neighbourhood with friendly people, it is close to grocery shops, eateries, and handy to bus transport. Would come back again and have already recommended to friends.

A very nice place
This rental was as described and very pleasant. It was nicely appointed and had all we needed. When the rental time neared, hosts were very attentive and available, allowing an early check in and quickly responding when the door code didn’t work. It was very private in a really pleasant neighborhood. The heat and all the appliances worked great as well and the owners have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into it.
I did not like the hidden $99 cost for the rental insurance. I put A lot of time and consideration into choosing a place that might work for me, and then to find out mid booking process that either I have to provide a $5000 deposit or pay $99 seems dishonest to me and allows the owner to offer the place to be considered in a different price range than it actually is. The fact that VRBO offers this and that the owners choose to use it, when many others don’t, is a negative for me.
Also Not the best for multiple chemical sensitivity. Since I have this condition, the place did not work for me, most likely because of the energy efficiency “sealed” quality, the furniture and other objects have not off-gassed the way they might in a more drafty place. To be fair, most rentals do not work for me, because it is standard to use scented detergents, bleach and other chemicals that make most people feel assured of cleanliness.
I am also mold sensitive, and from my assessment, this place has ZERO mold or must. If you have mold sensitivity, I would say it is a great choice. I only mention these things here because it is quite Difficult to assess a place to stay if you have these issues, so I am hoping to help others who might be looking in the future with this situation. I will know for next time to choose a more drafty place :-).

We’ve never stayed in a persons home before, just a hotel or condo. We were a bit nervous but everything was great. The apartment is clean, well stocked, and appropriately sized. The only “problem” we had was the noise. When the family gets up and moving in the mornings, you can hear everything (even sneezing!). It wasn’t an issue for us though as we needed to get up and get moving anyway. They were very nice and very helpful! I’d stay here again. Parking was also tricky as it is street parking and quite crowded. Overall, it was a great first experience!

Modern efficiency and convenience
The living space was just the right size for my wife and me.
The investment in the energy efficiency was impressive and very well thought out throughout the living space.
Another plus was the proximity to the public transportation that took us directly to the tourist areas in clean buses.
Stephanie also check with us to make sure everything was to our satisfaction.
The area is also within walking distance of great independent coffee locations and a market for food and supplies.

Very nice, clean and modern unit. Very affordable and in a great location for us.
Although we spent very little time in the unit since were in town to visit our son and see our first grandchild for the first time, we loved the clean and modern spaces and everything was first class.

Good for a weekend stay
Property was in the basement of the host's home so that was a different experience for us, our hosts were great, but obviously it felt a little less private. My husband & I stayed there for a long weekend while we helped our daughter get ready to move out of the city, so the location was great for that. There are also cute restaurants & amenities close by for when we were not helping her pack.
The space itself was smaller that we had anticipated although every inch was used well. Kitchen was big enough to cook breakfast or a light snack at night. Our hosts left coffee & snacks to get us started so that was very appreciated. The only TV was in the bedroom which didn't work well for our style, but might be fine for others.
Good space for the on the go traveler who doesnt need much room.

This place is refreshing and immaculate. It was super nice to walk in initially and be greeted with cleanliness and neatness. Bed is comfy. Air quality is excellent. Everything you need for a visit is supplied.
