We had a great time at Casa Juliana with our family party of 9. It is a quick walk to Playa Junquillal, which is a stunning beach. We enjoyed the pool and screened in porch. It is very private, but there are great restaurants very close to the house.
I would note that the upstairs loft bedroom is beautiful, with the attached living area, but it may not be appropriate for kids or folks with concerns about mobility. The bed requires climbing stairs and the stairs are fairly steep. This definitely did not detract from the beautiful property, but did require us to shuffle bedroom assignments!

We booked last minute, therefore didn’t have a chance to communicate a whole lot before getting there. It’s a big place with plenty of bathrooms and has a nice setup for many people.
We didn’t realize right away that an email was sent with all there is to know about the property and the area. I looked hard for a book, but there wasn’t one. After getting settled in, we were sitting out in the screened porch (which is heavenly) and the alarm to the house sounded for reasons we still don’t know. I think we alerted the entire coast it was so loud! My kids hadn’t heard an alarm like that before and were completely freaked out. After disarming it, we couldn’t figure out how to reset it and were worried it would go off again. Our kids were scared!! We messaged the property manager right away, but it took 2 days before someone came to look at it. They just turned it off as well and we were fine, but with bars on the windows and instructions to use it, it left us uneasy.
We ended up enjoying the property, the many amazing restaurants surrounding it and the beaches were fantastic. We loved walking to the beach for sunsets and the privacy of our own pool. The monkeys in the tree out front was a huge bonus and being able to walk to restaurants made it easy.
The bedroom temp on the main level would only cool so much, so we slept without covers. Use bug spray even if you don’t think there are bugs biting. Lovely place and would return again.

Nice place to stay if you want to relax and get away. Close to some amazing restaurants… our favorite was Tides. They have live music and great fish and chips. The best frozen drinks on our trip. The location is remote and it takes a while to get to attractions. Only downside

Our family of 4 adults and 3 kids stayed at Casa Juliana for 3 nights in mid- November. It fit all of us comfortably, with privacy. The enclosed outdoor living space was where we spent most time, eating meals or watching our kids swim. Yes, there were some ants and water leaking in the covered area, but this is not unexpected when travelling in Costa Rica. The pool is surrounded by vegetation and private. Our kids swam for hours a day. We loved the quaint little ‘town’, and that we were walking distance to the beach. There are some really great restaurants within walking distance and we were lucky enough to see a turtle laying eggs as we walked along the beach after dinner one night. Our host Georgina was also most pleasant, accommodating, and great with communication. Our family really loved our stay here and would happily return.

From the moment we arrived at this property for a 3 day stay we were knew we had chosen the right location to start our family holiday. Our party had four adults and 3 children and there was plenty of space to house us all comfortably. Had everything we needed and more and it was apparent that great care had gone into cleaning. There is a spacious outdoor living area, where we enjoyed our meals. The pool is most inviting, surrounded by vegetation and privacy. The beds were comfortable. Location was great- not right on the beach but easy walking distance. The host Georgina is very pleasant, responsive and accommodating. We all very much enjoyed ourselves and would definitely return.

This property shows an appalling lack of maintenance and updating. The interiors of the kitchen cabinets were covered with white furry mold. The inside glass panel on the microwave had active mold colonies growing in it. The dishes and glasses had dead insects and mold in them. The appliances were very old and worn out. There was no water pressure in the showers due to lime scale clogging the heads. Everyone had to wash their hair at the outdoor shower in order to rinse out the shampoo. The tile roof needs to be replaced and leaks every time it rains, which is about 3 inches per day so the floors are always wet and flooded. The shrubbery is overgrown with branches hanging in the pool. The Rancho barbeque grill has a huge ant colony living in it, making it unusable for cooking. The Jack and Jill bedrooms off the kitchen appear to be infested with fleas because the people that slept in those rooms are covered in red itchy welts. My dermatologist advises me the rash I am covered in is flea bite dermatitis. When we contacted the concierge a cleaning and landscaping crew was dispatched to the property and addressed most of the concerns. But as a paying guest I should not have had to give the property manager a punchlist of problems. Why wasn't the property cleaned, maintained and exterminated prior to our arrival? The surrounding town is a dump with no shopping available. The hotels and restaurants mentioned in the listing are closed so no food available. Worst trip ever!

We had a great stay at Casa Juliana at the end of May. From booking to staying there everything was smooth and communication with the property manager was outstanding. We received great recommendations for local restaurants, activities and an amazing chef who came to the house to cook for all 8 of us, 4 adults and 4 kids.
The house was well equipped with everything we needed and was a great place to hang out either by the pool or in the screened porch.
I definitely recommend for your next visit to Costa Rica!

My husband, myself and our family including grandchildren stayed at Casa Juliana for a weeks getaway. We were 7 adults and 2 children of 4 and 22 months. It is the ideal place for a family that would like to vacation together and have lots of space to enjoy. The in-the-ground pool was well appreciated especially after a day at the beach in the hot sun. Be aware that if young children are in your party, you must be vigilant as the pool is not fenced in. Someone came every second day to clean it. The Rancho BBQ area was a hit with the men. The screened in veranda is a very nice area to spend time in as well as around the pool. The cushions would need to be replaced however as they are somewhat worn and stained. The kitchen has everything you need to make your own meals. We did most of the cooking with groceries we bought in local marts. As we were arriving late on the first day, I asked to have some basic food items to be stocked for us before our arrival. It was there as promised. Be ready to deal with keys, keys for every door. Expect daily visits from local doggos and cats. They are friendly and would stay just for a few minutes and then be on their way. If you are a bird watcher, there are many birds that visit the trees and shrubs that surround the Villa. The beach which is just minutes walking distance from the villa is spectacular. My sons did boogie boarding & grandkids loved the waves. If you love the heat and laidback living you will really love Casa Juliana.

This house is as the pictures show it to be. What a wonderful place to stay while on vacation in Costa Rica for our first time. Off the path of the busy Tamarindo area but close enough to go for a day trip. The beach is at most a slow 5 minute walk from the house. You can hear the waves at night when you're winding down, so relaxing! 2 great hotels with delicious food directly next door to house. Dont worry they are very quiet places. The house is perfectly equipped. Fully stocked kitchen (we had a chef come and he had everything required), very comfortable beds and bedding, floats for the pool, lots of nice big towels, beach chairs and beach umbrellas...I could go on and on. You will thoroughly enjoy this place and be able to relax and enjoy the amazing Costa Rica weather.

Perfect!
If you are looking for a place away from the crowded tourist areas, this is it! While at the house, we spent most of our time in the pool and screened-in porch. We enjoyed long walks on the beach each morning and watched spectacular sunsets each night. We thoroughly enjoyed our tours through TPV and highly recommend having Lila cook dinner for you!
The beds were comfortable and the house had everything needed for an enjoyable and relaxing vacation. We would definitely stay again!

Paradise
We loved our stay at Casa Juliana. The beach was so close and gorgeous!!! So quiet and remote. The house was perfect for 2 families with teenage boys. We spent all of our time on the screened in porch or in the pool. My biggest complaints were the keys were annoying. So many keys and locks and none of them labeled. And the plastic dishes especially needed a major upgrade. The pizza at Hotel Tatanka and the local delivery places were great! The Guacamaya Lodge is in the backyard and so good! We also had a fabulous meal at Munro Milo and it was alll super cheap! We were visited by two local dogs that were the sweetest so please be nice to them when they come say hi! They were so thirsty! We would totally stay at Casa Juliana again. It was our 4th trip to Costa Rica and we just love staying in the quiet, unpopulated areas!

Wedding and Scouting Trip
I can honestly say we didn't want to come back to the states! We had an amazing time. The people and the atmosphere were beyond our expectations. The house was wonderful. Don't get me wrong, it needs some updating, deep cleaning and new appliances, but it was nothing we couldn't live with. The location to the beach was unbeatable. Two fantastic restaurants so close. Everyone was so very helpful and kind with any of our questions and concerns. We are definitely coming back.

Two great weeks!
Our family of 8 including 5 adults and 3 kids (15, 13, 11) stayed at Casa Juliana over the Christmas Break for two weeks. Although the house can accomodate more people, it felt like the perfect size for us. From the moment we arrived and leading up to our trip Georgina was amazing and took great care of us. She is well known by everyone in the community and was very responsive to our questions before and during our stay. She helped us secure a nurse to come to the house to do our PCR tests for our return to Canada. We took a transfer to and from the airport and used Adobe (via TPV tours) who delivered and picked-up our rental car right from the house. Having a car is key and a great way to explore the amazing beaches and towns nearby and to get groceries. Super Junqillal was a good place to grab the necessities and we would stop at a larger grocery store, if out exploring. We ventured out to Playa Avellanas (Lola's), Playa Conchal, Tamarindo, Brasilito and Nosara and would spend the rest of our time pool-side in our private yard. We loved the pool! We were visited by howler monkeys, iguanas, various birds and a stray cat and dog. We felt most comfortable doing our exploring during the day because it did not feel safe driving at night and therefore preferred to hang out at the house most evenings. If we did not eat dinner at the house, we would go to the local restaurants that we could walk to including Guacamaya Lodge, Hotel Tatanka, Junquillal Eco Resort (all great spots to check-out). We also hired Pascam for our Christmas dinner (delicious) and Lila for my husband's birthday (amazing). The sunsets and turtle releases at Playa Junquillal are not to be missed. It seemed to be mostly locals enjoying the beach. Walks along the beach in the morning were usually just us and some local fisherman. Our boys enjoyed swimming at Junquillal beach, but stayed close to shore. The boys also enjoyed playing basketball at the house. Our family took surfing lessons with Indy - another highlight. We also did a day trip to Buena Vista Eco Adventure Park with TPV tours and really enjoyed chatting with our guide Fernando. The house is off the beaten path, so we followed Georgina's instructions re: security and safety which is definitely needed to mitigate the risk of break-ins/theft. The house felt "cottagey" and it was clean, but we still encountered a few bugs (we were careful to wrap up food and use bug spray). We would stay at Casa Juliana again. Thank you!

Fabulous Beach and Great House with Private Pool
Before we stayed at Casa Juliana, we wondered if it could possibly be as great as the photos make it look. Well, it was! The property is exactly as represented on VRBO, which if you travel much, you know is not always the case. The house is well located - less than a five minute walk to the beach with a restaurant next door - but it's also extremely private. The pool is completely screened by landscaping, which makes it not only beautiful, but also a perfect place to relax in peace. The beach is beautiful and almost deserted. We could walk three miles in the morning and see 3-4 people total. Paradise!

Family Escape
Casa Juliana was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy Costa Rica. Our family of 12 including 3 generations spent countless hours in the luxurious screened in living room and were in the pool morning day and night. The property is as beautiful as advertised. The quiet location was perfect for us after a week of activity and we had a great time exploring all the secluded beaches nearby and Tamarindo was close enough to visit for an afternoon or evening. Our host Georgina was very helpful throughout the trip. Easy check in/check out, consistent communication and recommendations and even set up fresh food deliveries for us. Casa Juliana was a great experience for all of us and I recommend anyone considering this property to go ahead and book it.

Casa Juliana is a great place for families!
Playa Junquillal is a fantastic place to stay if your looking for a rural area that is safe and quiet. Many local restaurants are within 10 minutes walking from the house, and the beach is less than 5 minutes walk. Sunsets near the house are tremendous, and I highly recommend them. The local tour company, TPV, can get you almost anywhere that you need to go, and their guides are tremendously helpful. One piece of advice would be to definitely stock up on plenty of food, sunblock, and bug spray before getting to the house, as you will have far more options in bigger towns before getting to Casa Juliana. Overall, great stay! Get to know some of the locals while you're in, and they will take great care of you.

Very nice outdoor space
We enjoyed our stay at Casa Junquillal. The property manager, Georgina, went above and beyond to help us with anything we needed, and she was wonderful to work with. The outdoor space is very nice, and we enjoyed the screened in porch with ceiling fans, as well as the pool. There is a wonderful restaurant that can be accessed by walking a short distance through the back yard, at the Guacamaya Lodge. We ate there a few nights because it was so delicious, and in a wonderful setting.

Off the beaten track
We loved our stay at Casa Juliana in June 2021. We were looking for a relaxing place after the stresses of over a year of mostly remote work and school. Casa Juliana is away from it all, but close to several great restaurants — easy walking distance up the hill to Guacamaya Lodge (very friendly staff, great food and ice cream, nice bar) and Hotel Tatanka (wood fire pizza) — and across the street from the beach (close to deserted some days). The property manager, Georgina, was super helpful with the COVID regulations and grocery shopping before we arrived. The pool was awesome — very clean and refreshing after days of adventuring. Overall, we had a fantastic stay and can’t wait to return!

Beautiful house, excellent location if you don’t need to be right in the mix of everything. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Check out the restaurant Tatanka only a brief walk out of the driveway. Amazing food at amazing prices. You can literally hear the waves crashing in the ocean, poolside at the house.

Outstanding
What a great property. The screened in porch and pool provided a relaxing and spacious environment for our group of 8 adults. We loved the quiet location within the quiet area of Junquillal. We went to busy Tamarindo one day and couldn’t wait to get back to our Casa Juliana. Access to great beaches is within easy walking distance and while there are some nice restaurants close by the outdoor BBQ at Juliana beside the pool made staying in and cooking very relaxing. Overall, a great stay.

Great place to start our vacation
Lovely screened in area and pool. Great for family gatherings. Kitchen was well equipped. Close to amazing restaurant behind house and easy walk to the beach. Watch for ants outside at night on sidewalks and driveway. House has safe, but difficult to open! No stores close by if you don’t have a vehicle. Manager picked up our food for a small fee! Awesome! Had iguanas, birds, squirrels and a sweet neighbourhood dog visit while enjoying the pool. Would recommend this house. We enjoyed our stay

Oasis in Playa Junquillal
We had a wonderful stay at Casa Juliana! We have stayed in the Junquillal area for years, and we wish we would have found Casa Juliana sooner. Georgina, the property manager, was lovely and professional. She even contacted us on the night we arrived, and we were able to go to a local release of Olive Ridley turtles. The house was well-stocked. The pool was lovely. It was an easy walk to the beach. We will return!

Lovely place and property
Casa Juliana was perfect for our first visit to Costa Rica! We loved exploring the area and had such a wonderful experience. We did several activities in Tamarindo and it was about a 35 minute drive, which was perfect! We loved the remote and quiet feeling of the house and didn't want to leave. Lila was recommended by Georgina to prepare a meal for us when we were looking for a chef and she was AMAZING! So sweet and sincere and such delicious tipico food. Top 2 meals for us! We also loved Cafe Playa Negra for food and service. We loved our experience and are so grateful to have found Casa Juliana!

Comfortable stay for family of 5
Casa Juliana is a good choice for a family looking to avoid the main tourist areas yet still be comfortable. It's between two restaurants, on a very small hill, an easy, short walk from the beach. We went in late January and the beach was quiet with as many locals as tourists. Our three young kids were lucky to see a baby turtle hatch at the turtle conservancy.
The large screened-in outside areas are fantastic though the communal inside areas of the house are on the small side. The bedrooms are a good size. The pool was well-maintained.
Georgina was a true pleasure to deal with. Very quick responses and good communication. Check-in and check-out was very smooth. Thanks so much!

Things you should to aware of.
The house is very remote. There was one grocery store one mile away that was very limited in items. Several restaurants that were within walking distance and they were amazing. Georgina can connect you with a driver named Enrique and he is awesome. The house was beautiful but you will need food, toilet paper, laundry detergent, coffee filter, coffee and food. The travel to the house very long. Fly into Liberia. That will only be an hour drive. The beach is across a road. I would not let small children go unattended. Make sure you take advantage of Zip lining. It was only 20 minutes up the road and the best one I have ever done. 11 runs and one is 1/2 mile long. It was beautiful. The same company offers horse back riding and ATV as well.

Such a gem!
Our stay at Casa Juliana was amazing. we rented a car and it was an easy drive from the Liberia airport. The house was amazing and fit our needs perfectly. We were a group of 10. The screen porch had us hanging out and talking all evening. The beach was awesome, and quiet. Not many people around. Many places around to grab drinks and have dinner at right from the house with in walking distance. Turtle rescue is just a few blocks away and we got to participate in a baby turtle release. We are already planning next years trip.

50th Wedding Anniversary
Our search was intensive for the "Dream" place to stay and celebrate our parents 50th Wedding anniversary. This place was perfect and did not disappoint.
We were 4 couples and we stayed one week at Casa Juliana. the place is fantastic and located in a little piece of paradise. We loved hanging by the pool, in the screen in common area but appreciated that you could easily retreat to your own space.
Playa Junquillal is a treat!. We loved this town and will come back. The owners at the Eco Resort are worth the visit alone plus the food is great. While in the area also plan a dinner at the Guacamaya Lodge or lunch at Lochito's.
Our host Georgina was very caring and made sure our place was well stocked with and amenities we requested. Here advice when asked is knowledgeable and solid.
If this place is available, don't hesitate, book it!

Great relaxing stay!
Our family of 7 had such a great stay here! The house was clean, beds were comfy, and the kitchen wonderfully furnished. Georgina was a great help to us, we sent her our grocery list a few days before our trip, and she had the food all stocked before we got there (for a small fee). She even helped us line up a cook (who has become a dear friend to us now), and she connected us with all our excursion contacts. The thing I loved the most about the house was the screened-in porch! We sat out there for all our meals and for playing games late into the nights, it was wonderful! I would recommend taking a trip to Monteverde, it was definitely worth the 3-hr drive to be in the mountains, zip line, and to see different animals. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is best.
We fell in love with Playa Junquillal! Most days, we were the only people on the beach. Some days, we drove a short 2-3 min to Playa Blanca for snorkeling and shell collecting, or to Playa Negra to see more monkeys and for huge waves. Ovidio took us out fishing, we rented surf gear from Javier, we went horseback riding with Renaldo, and Valerie taught us so many things about the nesting turtles! Our kids loved every minute! It was such a tight-knit community, we loved the “family” feel and were so glad we didn’t stay closer to the touristy areas. (Speaking Spanish is definitely a plus in these more remote areas, however!). We even bought a soccer ball at the super mercado down the street and had a pick-up game with the local kids. Wonderful, wonderful stay! 9 days was not enough!!

Unique Property Close to the Beach
Loved the uniqueness of this property. The outdoor/porch space was amazing for our group. Supermarket was not too far down the road, the house is within walking distance to the beach, and there are places to eat on each side (both delicious, and one you can get to from the backyard). Loved our stay!

Family Fun at Casa Julianna
Casa Julianna was perfect for our family of 6 adults and 3 children. We loved the outdoor living area and appreciated the air conditioned sleeping quarters. The pool was certainly a hit with adults and children after days of beach surfing and exploring. The proximity to surfing beaches and top notch surf school for the children was priceless. We spent time at Lola’s on the beach while the surfers in the family caught some waves. A turtle release was the highlight of our trip as the eggs hatched at sunset and we released the little loggerheads and protected their path to the ocean. Check out the habitat for turtles at the beach within walking distance of Casa Julianna! We found many excellent restaurants ... some within walking distance and even had a personal chef prepare a birthday celebration dinner complete with a molten lava cake. Loved our stay at Casa Julianna. Although it is a bit off the beaten track and in a rustic location , it gives visitors a glimpse of the Pura Vida of Costa Rica! Magnificent Vacation!

Casa Juliana is a hidden gem!
I planned this trip for 9 childhood girlfriends and myself to celebrate our 30th birthdays. The house was beautiful and a perfect accommodation. Every morning we would wake up and sit by the pool making coffee and breakfast, listening to nature and catching up on each others lives. Every night we would sit in the screen in porch listening to music and playing games. Casa Juliana provided us with the space to enjoy each others company! Another great aspect was the beautiful beach. You will never feel crowded or hassled. A short walk south brings you to the most beautiful rock pools during low tide. We went to Tamarindo and the beaches were full of people and trinket salespeople. Playa Junquillal was so tranquil and peaceful in comparison. We were also lucky enough to watch baby turtles being released at sunset by the sanctuary right down the road. Final recommendation is to book a meal or two with private chefs Camille & Pascal. Camille was such a sweetheart and her food was magical! She knows her way around the kitchen at Casa Juliana so you can completely relax and enjoy! Overall fantastic trip! You will feel like you got to experience Cosa Rica locally unlike the experience you get at a big resort!

An Excellent Vacation Property
Our extended family of 11 (2 infants) had a wonderful time here. Our grandsons spent all their time in the warm pool or on the beach. Although we visited the other local beaches, they preferred Junquillal. The Casa is very well equipped with everything we needed. We enjoyed the local restaurants and also made good use of the nice barbeque beside the pool. You do have to allow time at the restaurants for your meal to be prepared. We liked hearing the howler monkeys most evenings and mornings and seeing the birds and iguanas around the Casa. The huge screened area allowed us to sit out in the evenings and enjoy each others' company. The Automercado in Tamarindo is very good for groceries but we also used the Maxi Pali there quite a bit. A previous reviewer mentioned the fruit market, on the right just before the left turn into Tamarindo, and it has a wide selection at good prices. This was a memorable vacation experience and we are recommending the Casa to relatives and friends.
