About this apartment rental
This is a home we built in 2007 that we have enjoyed and taken care of on every level. It is completely furnished with nothing but comfort in mind. 2 leather couches, 2 recliner chairs, along with very comfortable bedding, big screen tv in living area and extremely nice decorations to give you the feel of cozy and comfort in every room. All you need to bring is your food.
We supply you with a single stall in our 2 car garage to assure you have a place to park inside if a summer storm would happen to come through, or to put your car in for a cold winter night if you are staying in the cold months.
In floor heat is like no heat you have ever experienced as the heat comes up from the floor instead of from vents blowing air. The AC is a wall unit located in the main living area. It rarely gets hot enough here that it does not cool very nicely throughout the whole house. We do have a large standing fan in the master bedroom if more air is need to be moved in that room if it ever gets that warm. Cozy covered porch complete with patio furniture, washer and dryer along with all the things you will need in the kitchen to prepare a large meal or the smallest snack. We have full cable along with wifi, however we do not provide a computer, so you will need to bring your own device to work with.
The master bedroom is complete with Cable TV, California king size bed with very cozy bedding, a master bath and shower along with a desk to work from if you need to do any work from home. 1 large ceiling fan. It also has a large walk in closet. Full view windows to watch wildlife right outside the home in the back yard if you decide to leave the blinds open. We have supplied 1 bunk bed that can be assembled in the living room or master bed room for the extra kids or adults to use. You will find it in the master bed room closet.
The second bedroom is very spacious also, with a huge closet, very comfortable queen size sleigh bed with super cozy bedding, cable tv and ceiling fan. The location is perfect for someone wanting to see all the sites as it is just a short distance to all the hotspots in the Blackhills region. We work very hard to keep everything in great shape by either replacing needed items with new or taking care of things as needed in this home to assure you the best stay with no problems. It is only minutes from Crazy Horse Mountain and also Mount Rushmore. Endless hiking including Black Elk Peak, the highest point in the Black Hills. Multiple lakes less than 3-5 miles away that are excellent for fishing and all types of water sports. Eagle viewing along with many other types of bird watching is unmatched in this location. We have even seen an occasional mountain lion in the area. The deer population is unbelievable. They will come right up to the house and even lay in the backyard, just outside the walls of the home.
This is a very quite neighborhood that is mainly retired individuals that have moved there from all over the country to enjoy the splendor and serenity of the Black Hills, and with that I can assure you, no disappointments from the peaceful sunrises to the crystal clear star lit skies as night falls across the mountain range all around your viewing area from the front or back porch area of this home.
So many have said, there is just nothing like sitting on that back covered porch on those early pristine mornings with a light jacket, deer less than 30 feet away, birds of all kinds awakening with sunrise and the best cup of hot coffee your hands can hold in its warm mug just taking in what mother nature has provided in all its glory. The fact is, we have spent time in Colorado and many other locations around the US and it is no secret that viewing birds and animals in their natural habitat cannot be matched to what you will find in the Black Hills region of South Dakota.
What we and many others like about the Black Hills, is the fact it is so open to hiking and just plain getting out of your car and looking around. Let me tell you it is hard to find a no parking sign in this area. It seems many locations you go to, it is impossible to get out and explore the area, not in The Black Hills. Enjoy your stay and make sure to let us know if there is anyway we can help you make it the best vacation you ever had. Kevin Houtwed

Beautiful property in a great location to see Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the Badlands, Custer State Park, devil’s Tower, and Wind Cave National Park. Star gazing from the back patio is amazing. The house was perfect with plenty of room for our vacation.

This was a wonderful place to stay especially if your going to the Custer State Park. I highly recommend Needles Hiway and Iron Mountain Road. Kevin was great about helping us with the trailer and a place to park it. The house is very clean and has everything that you could possibly need. This is so close to Cluster that we could grab gas and coffee and be off to the park. I just can't say enough good things about our stay. Thank you Kevin and Karen..

Second trip to SD and stay in this home and once again it was perfect!

Our family rents VRBO homes often and this one was really awesome! Very clean and amazing location. We were right by the downtown where our kids loved to get icecream and souvenir shop! The grocery store was 3 mins away which is super important bc we cook many of our meals. Loved all the things we could do under 25 mins away in Custer State Park (paddleboarding, jeep tours, hiking). We were on the go most days but loved the respite to come home to. We got to use their state park pass too which saved us about $30 and not having to stop at the gate each time we went in!

We LOVED this Black Hills home--it was exactly as described, very comfortable and clean with a well-equipped kitchen and cute cabin-style decor. It really was a home away from home. Quiet neighborhood, great location--perfect home base for our explorations of the gorgeous Black Hills. We made good use of the huge selection of tourist brochures and booklets--such a thoughtful touch. Kevin was responsive and gave excellent information about the area, checking in, using the garage, and much more. If we're ever in the area again (and I hope we are), we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

The place was wonderful, clean, and convenient. It was 4 miles from Crazy Horse and less to Custer State Park where we saw bison, antelope, and prairie dogs as well as beautiful scenery. I would stay there anytime. Our trip was to see family of which my uncle (World War II vet) turned 95. We saw cousins we hadn’t seen in 50 years. What a great time!

What a nice place. You feel right at home right when you walk in. Clean, roomy, relaxing, quiet. Great location. Close to nation monuments and State Parks. Beautiful neighborhood, and great owners, who also were in town and stopped by to say hello and pick something up. Everything you need right there. Comfortable beds and bedding! Sad to leave but hopefully we’ll be back!

This is our second year staying here, love the location and the condo…even get to use the garage. The area is very quiet and safe, had a great time!!

Great location and easy access to attractions. Really Appreciate the garage opener and park tag. Several areas of suggestion/concern. The air conditioning was not sufficient to cool all of the rooms, only the living room area. This made for hot sleeping at night. The towels had a musty smell and were very well used. Needs upgrading. Only one washcloth was provided causing us to go buy some for use. Description of bedrm size not accurate. One room was very small. None of the recliner features on the loveseat and sofa worked. These things really need to be fixed. Ice maker did not make sufficient ice to keep caught up with use. We were very excited to have friends with us for their first VRBO stay. I’m really sorry we had these issues.

Everything was seamless with the stay. The host was very communicative before our stay. Home is located in a quiet neighborhood. It worked great for our family's needs with a nice sized living room. If you suffer from indoor allergies this may not be the place for you as there is decor throughout the entire home which collected a lot of dust. Overall a great place to stay being a central location to see things such as Custer State Park, Jewel Cave, Hot Springs, etc..

This was our second stay in this property. House is well appointed and central to all the areas we wanted to visit. Communication with the owners was great and we had no issues during out stay. Would stay again!!

Loved this spacious and comfortable home with everything needed to make breakfast and then head out for the day in any direction. Custer location made it easy to get to Black Hills National Forest, Custer State Park, Wind Cave, Lead and Deadwood, and even further trips to Badlands and Devil's Tower. Close to Main St and many restaurants and shops.Owner was a pleasure to work with.

This home is located 5 minutes from Custer State Park and about 2 minutes to downtown Custer. Quiet neighborhood, very well maintained home. Open concept and well furnished. Large bedroom with attached full bathroom. Spare bedroom is a good size as well with the 2nd full bath directly across the hall. You will not be sorry about staying here.

The owners were great to deal with and provided lots of information upfront. The keyless entry worked great and was so convenient. Owners provided garage space and garage door opener. Very considerate of them. House was perfect for 2 adult couples. The house was nicely furnished. Location was convenient to Mount Rushmore and several state and National Parks. Would highly recommend.

House is comfortable and felt very relaxed and safe in this neighborhood.
The location is great for being able to take all the scenic drives in The Black Hills. Easy access to Windcave, hwy to Spearfish, deadwood area and Devil's Tower. All the Monuments are close by.
The host Kevin and Karen are easily accessible and will answer and questions you may have. They also provide extra perks when staying at their place. We had a garage for the car, which is a huge bonus. They also provided us with a State Park pass for our stay. This made getting around all the e scenic drives and lakes so much easier. They will make eating suggestions and advise on history of Custer. They furnished a whole write up on a great walking tour of downtown Custer.
You will not be disappointed staying here. The biggest problem we had was finding enough time to do everything. We stayed a week, should have added a couple of days for resting in between sightseeing.

It was the perfect location for our Buffalo Roundup adventure in Custer State Park. Great restaurants and grocery stores were close by. The home was cozy, clean, comfortable, roomy, and well stocked...a great place to come home to after a day of sightseeing and adventures.
