*On March 14, 2012 the Trust for Public Lands (TPL) announced it was in negotiations to acquire the Ocean Meadows Golf Course. Once escrow was the land was transferred to UCSB's Cheadle Center for Biological Diversity and Ecological Restoration. As stated on the TPL website:
'The Trust for Public Land is working alongside the California State Coastal Conservancy and the University of California at Santa Barbara to purchase the Devereux Slough and restore it to its natural splendor.
Located at the eastern gateway to the Gaviota Coast, Ocean Meadows is the final acquisition in an open-space strategy known as the Joint Proposal that will link more than 600 acres of land together for people and wildlife to use and enjoy. When it is restored, the site will be used for environmental education, research and gentle recreation.'

Wonderful place to stay, owners were helpful as well. Good deal for the cost. Back patio garden is unreal with great views of open space. 20 minute walk through reserve to gorgeous long beaches.

loved it
We absolutely loved staying at Mary’s place. The location and view on the preserve is stunning, and Mary couldn’t be nicer to deal with.

Perfect hideaway
This was our third time to use a VRBO in the Santa Barbara area. While the others were adequate for our needs this unit was far and away our best yet. Floor plan, accommodations, furnishings all excellent . Location at the Elmwood preserve afforded an excellent opportunity for hiking, biking, and beach time. Stores and restaurants conveniently nearby. Mary was great to work with. Very attentive to our needs. Highly recommend.

Beautiful spot but unclean
Very disappointed by the cleanliness of property especially during covid! pots and pans had crusty food on them, rugs were filthy, furniture stained. Upon arriving I complained owner doubted me said she would check with cleaning team? Was there one ? Food marks on coffee table. Beds OK and location lovely, with a little investment could be a very nice place. Also neighbor to the right was a problem pounding on the wall for no reason.

Great place for a retreat.
Wonderful place for an extended stay. The location is perfect, within walking or biking to many Goleta attractions. Safe, quiet and peaceful. West facing backyard with beautiful sunsets every evening. The property managers are amazing to work with.

30 Days in Goleta
My wife and I enjoyed our stay. The place was just like the pictures. It was perfect for our visit with family in Santa Barbara. Close to shopping and just 20 minutes from our family. It was in a quiet neighborhood. You are close to the airport. The Santa Barbara airport isn't busy and there wasn't a problem with airport noise.

This sunny condo was a super place.
Our month stay was very nice. The condo location was close to shopping, short drive to most beaches, close to main transportation routes, and a very nice and safe place to walk. We recommend this to all .

Fantastic place to stay!
My family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) stayed in this beautiful place for 5 weeks this summer for work at UCSB. The owners were excellent and helpful, providing extra information on restaurants, hiking trails, etc. and easy to communicate with. The unit itself was perfectly set up - light and airy, beautifully decorated, and well appointed (towels, sheets, kitchen). Beds were great and it felt like home away from home. The neighborhood was fun for all of us and we met some really great families, pool/spa area was well kept and clean, and all in all a fantastic place to stay. We rode bikes to campus, went for walks/bike rides/runs to beach, strolled to restaurants, etc. Easy living and would love to stay here again for work or play!

Great Vacation Spot
I was a little reluctant to write this review because I wanted to keep this place to myself. But as my wife and I have gotten to know the owners, who we like very much, it seemed only fair to them to let other people know how great this place is. Suffice it to say that we love the place. We come here often and would be loathe to stay elsewhere. Bring you bicycles. You can ride down to the beach or along the beach cliffs - spectacular. The Ellwood Preserve is also a great attraction. Shopping is bicycle close.

Great place off the beaten path
I stayed here a month to be close to my father who is in a nursing home in Goleta. The owners were really nice and helpful. It's a lovely place with great sunlight and a backyard that overlooks a nature preserve with walking/riding trails. The house is fully equipped (e.g., washer and dryer, coffee maker, internet, basic TV with on demand). It's located in a townhouse development about a mile or so from the main shops/supermarket. Goleta is fairly low key, not far from downtown Santa Barbara. There is a public beach nearby and the UCSB is a short drive away. I would definitely stay here again.

Recommendable Condo
We highly enjoyed our stay in this house. It is lovely situated on
the edge of a former golf course and it is only about 15 minutes walk
away to an almost lonely beach. The garden is small but nicely
equipped and the view on the easily accessible nature reserve is
great. The owners are a very nice and helpful family. The
neighborhood is very friendly and quiet, and our kids thoroughly
enjoyed the community pool. Shops are just around the corner, good to
reach even without a car. All in all an uncomplicated, pleasant stay
which we greatly enjoyed and would always return to if the occasion
arises.

Beautiful condo, close to shopping, restaurants, UCSB
My wife and I stayed here for 10 weeks, while we were working at a research program at UCSB. The condo is both beautiful and comfortable, and we really enjoyed it. I especially liked the view of the open nature area right behind the condo, and took many long walks there. The condo is conveniently located near a shopping center with a supermarket and several restaurants, and it's just 2-3 miles from UCSB. I definitely recommend it for university visitors and for vacationers!

Peaceful Retreat
This was exactly what we were looking for during our last trip to the Santa Barbara area. We really enjoyed our morning coffee on your patio. So beautiful and so peaceful. I was nice to get away from our busy lives and enjoy the tranquility of your Condo. I think that was the first time in month's I can reminder sitting outside and reading the morning paper, I felt like I didn't have a care in the world. The Condo was so clean, and the Owner was a joy to work with, We will be back!!

Goleta Condo
I'd like to thank you for your part in making our month in your area so memorable. Your condo was very convenient to near by shops, restaurants, and a theater. The condo furnishings are charming and it was so clean and well cared for. I loved being able to sit outside on the patio that overlooks the Preserve. Not only the birds abound, but one morning a coyote was out there! It was one of our most peaceful and restful vacations! We'll be back! Thanks!!!

Beautiful spot for walks, located on a park
The house looks out on a park belonging to UC Santa Barbara. The park is open to the public. One can walk across to the beach. We had a lovely time there over Christmas. Weather was magnificent. House is fully equipped. Owner is very helpful and visited us to make sure all was in order.

Great for Visiting Professors - we will be back!
I love this place! This condo has everything anyone could want. It is clean and fully stocked. The garden is beautiful.
We have stayed in the area before and was, at first, saddened to hear of the closing of Ocean Meadow Golf Course. However, I enjoyed the new opportunity of walking trails from the back door out to the Devereux Slough and beach. Our favorite walk was the "pond trail".
We loved parking the car and walking and biking where we needed to go (except Costco - while it is close enough to walk/bike to, it is getting home with your purchases that is the problem!) A short flat bike ride to the University (10 minutes) making for a very pleasant commute. We also found a new restaurant that we really enjoy- ItSuki which we would ride our bikes to. The farmers market, on Sundays and Wednesdays was also a favorite.

Enjoyable, convenient rental
I rented for two months. The condo was equiped with everything we needed except for our own clothes and toiletries. It worked well for my family of four with a 12 and 15 year old sharing the second bedroom. They enjoyed the pool and the house, including cable TV (which we don't have at home) and wireless.
House is on golf course with very nice views of a flower filled garden and nature preserve beyond the golf course. It's an easy walk to mall with lots of stores and great farmer's market twice a week. Beach and University (where I visited) are quite close. Very close to convenient bike paths.
We'll definitely inquire for availability when we visit again.

Great Condo
Loved this condo. It was just right for the 2 of us. Grandkids came to visit for a couple of days so neighbors with children were a big asset. Very pet friendly. Fun golf couse. Owners very, very nice and accomadating. Would stay again.

Very comfortable, well furnished
My husband and I just spent a month in this lovely condo right on the golf course. We had a very comfortable and relaxing stay. Being in Goleta was perfect for us. The condo is actually fairly close to the ocean so we were able to take a nice walk there several times. The garden is beautiful and peaceful with lots of birds. The condo is nicely furnished with comfortable bed and all the amenities we needed. Close to grocery store, Costco and a large park and in a well-maintained and quiet family-type complex. We would definitely go back again.

Great stay
The condo is in very good condition, clean and well maintained. The location is extremely convenient,
close to parks, shopping and facing a beautiful golf course. The owners were always helpful in answering questions and addressing potential concerns. A shopping center, with a supermarket and several small places to eat, is within walking distance.

Thank you so much for a great vacation. The condo was sunny, beautifully furnished (not that typical vacation rental decor), original artwork and had comfy beds. It had everything we could have wanted. It was close to the University, shops, movie theater and restaurants . We especially enjoyed Kahuna Grill and Sushi Ai. Walking trails to the beach were close by and golf out the back door! We enjoyed sitting on the patio in the evening watching the sunset as the golfers finished up on the green (we occasionally would hear "fore"). The pool was warm and hot tub toasty. The owners were very helpful when we had questions. We would recommend this unit and plan on staying here again in the future.
