About this chalet rental
Our Mountain Chalet is a beautiful naturally lit 3 story home with an open floor plan and with 2 Master bedrooms. Come relax on our wrap-around deck or on the balcony. Enjoy the stars and fireflies in the evening around our fire pit. Listen to the sound of cicadas as you fall asleep during summer and Fall nights. Gaze out of our sliding glass doors and large windows from the leather sofas in the living room and enjoy the mountain views during any season. Enjoy our extensive library with many wildflower, wildlife, and bird identification books. Experience the mountains without having to drive far to enjoy downtown Waynesville. We are less than 5 minutes from Downtown Waynesville and 10 minutes from Maggie Valley, NC. Jump on the Blue Ridge Parkway (we provide free maps with our favorite spots circled), which is 15 minutes from the house. Easefully arrive at the house, paved roads the whole way, no steep gravely driveway. Large driveway allows more than three vehicles for large parties.
Give your self a spa or golf day and take a day trip to the Waynesville Golf Resort and Spa, only 1.3 miles from the Chalet.
Receive our quest treasure hunt list-designed by me (USFWS Botanist) and my husband (Event Coordinator for City of Asheville). Let us give you a Vacation of a lifetime:))
Why we love our home-
The wrap around deck and balcony allow for maximum relaxation. The exposed beams give it a cabin flare. It is perfect for a family because we have four bedrooms with three full bathrooms so everybody has there own space.. Its also a perfect house and location for a romantic getaway. The master bedroom has a high vaulted ceiling and opens up to its own private balcony. The master bath has a jet tub. Also on the 3rd story is a 2nd bedroom with two twin beds. The first story bedroom has a Master bedroom with its own private bath. The fourth bedroom has a day bed with a trundle. Our house is nicely decorated and is lightly lived in. It feels new and cozy like a cottage. Being a botanist, there are many floral paintings and prints. The house is located in close proximity to Great Smoky Mountains National park, Nantahala National Forest, and Pisgah National forest making it perfect for outdoor enthusiasts.

Nice, decent place.

This home was spacious, clean and a well stocked kitchen. Fresh sheets and towels. Would definitely recommend this home to family and friends.

This is the second time in 2 years, house is perfect for my Motorcycle group, and owners are 100% helpfull.
We will like to stay there again next year.

The Runaway Chalet offers a beautifully situated escape from the rush of daily life. Settling into the hillside, the home offers just the right mix of access to area attractions and quiet surroundings. 4 bedrooms offer enough space for the family and the hosts have left all of the details checked off the list in moving right in.
If you’re looking to be close to downtown Waynesville, Lake Junaluska, Cherokee and other area sites this may well be the place for you. Check it out on your next getaway. You won’t regret it.

The house was clean and nice. Had majority of what we needed when we were there in the evenings. It was close to all the places we planned to visit. Really close to town if needed to grab something quick.

This mountain home was clean , comfortable, and lovely. Close to Waynesville, NC which is a vibrant town. We enjoyed shopping , galleries , and a beautiful walking trail around Lake Junaluska.

The Chalet was really nice and easily accessible from downtown Waynesville! Plus it was an easy drive to the Cattaloochee Ski area through Maggie Valley. Overall, I would enjoy staying here again in the future due to the homes space and its environment! It was excellent!

This is a great house, well maintained and very clean. Be aware that all bedrooms have stairs to either access them or access the rest of the house. Super easy to find, well stocked and just a great all around property.

Comfortable clean house, great location, nice neighbors, convenient to Waynesville downtown and other locations.

We did have a pleasant stay at your place in the mountains. The kitchen was well equipped with anything you might need. The beds were pretty comfortable. The only problem I had was the pillows in the daybed room. They looked like they had been used many times and the pillowcases were not to much better. I think it’s time for some new ones. Also when I was getting ready to take a shower I couldn’t find a washcloth so I asked one of the girls from upstairs if she could bring me one. When I got ready to wash my face I looked at it and someone had already used it (not anyone from our group) there was makeup all over it. Needless to say I didn’t use it. Other then those couple of things our stay there was pretty good. Thank you for letting us use your home.

The chalet is an excellent choice for the Waynesville area. Thank you for allowing us to use the property for our family get together.

Wonderful relaxing stay. House is in a nice location on a quiet dead end street and convenient to supermarkets, Walmart restaurants and downtown. Friendly neighbors and a very dog friendly neighborhood. Home is well equipped with most everything you need sans a Keurig! Pretty mountain views, Comfortable bedding and a great relaxing nature vibe. Our family was very comfortable including our 50 lb Springer that loved exploring the property and meeting the doggie neighbors during our daily walks. As with many mountain homes, driveways are steep and angles extreme so leave your corvette at home! :) Our Powerwagon loved the driveway! Thank you April and Basil for letting us stay at your vacation home. We had a wonderful time.

Very close to grocery and wonderful fruit stand. The cabin was roomy and clean. Close to downtown Waynesville and restaurants. Went to wineries from there at 45 min each adventure. Plenty of parking for our 4 vehicles. I had one question and it was answered very quickly by owners on email. We were even able to watch the Gators game at the cabin! Only suggestion would be more comfortable furniture in living room, but certainly not a deal breaker. Kitchen fully equipped and easy to use! Would go again!

The Runaway Chalet was as advertised. We were very cozy and we found it had all of our needs, which was a good thing since it rained the duration of our stay. This was a great location. The beds were comfortable and we had plenty of room.
April and Basil were excellent host. We would not hesitate to return.

The house was comfortable with plenty of room for our family. Basil called while we were en route to let us know that the previous guests had made a huge mess (shame on whomever checked out 9/17/21!) and the housekeeper was doing her best but may not be finished by our 4pm check-in. Then, closer to 4pm, he called again to let me know she had actually finished and everything should be fine but to let him know if we had any issues. Well, she's apparently a miracle worker. This is one of the cleanest places I've stayed, despite the previous guests. Plenty of basic items like towels, sheets, TP, paper towels, hand soap, and dishes. Water pressure was great, and water got hot quickly. Beds were comfortable. Very convenient to The Inn At Tranquility Falls (event venue), and we'd stay again if in the area. Thank you Basil, April, and your excellent housekeeper!

nice place but needed to have exterminator come and spray a few times a year to get rid of the bug problem. plus bad needed of landscaping and bushes trimmed. Plus it said it had a garage but really could not use it was full of the owners belongings so that was a disappointment not able to use the garage. Plus how the pictures was showing it really did not show you how steep the driveway was plus did not tell you that when you left you had to go up and turn around at the dead end part of the road to get out. But overall it was a nice place just needs some loving care to make it better place to rent and if they cannot clean the garage out for renters they need to state that there is no garage usage there for renters.

First impression is not great with some clear maintenance issues needed and a bit of "too much stuff" in the house but it was clean and comfy and sitting in the living room and looking out over the hills was super relaxing.

Unfortunately for us we arrived on 8/15 feeling like we were getting sick. We were tested and found out we had Covid. One of us started feeling better on day three but the other did not so it was decided to go home on 8/21.
It was unfortunate that we did not get to see Waynesville and enjoy the surrounding area.

If you want to be in Waynesville this is a great location. It is a nice property, and with 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths would be good for a large group. The large deck is great (although no real view). HOWEVER, the property is desperately in need of routine upkeep and maintenance.
I have owned a vacation property, and this simply is not up to snuff. There was a broken wicker chair (presumably from the deck) that was just tossed off to the side of the driveway, where it just sits rotting. The gutter on one entire side of the house is filled with debris and there is large vegetation growing out of it. The house and deck are in DIRE need of a power wash and re-staining. There is a pile of debris (weeds, branches, etc.) tossed on the ground just outside the door. Planters on the deck are basically full of weeds (although we very much enjoyed the wren nest with babies in it in one of them). The trees are overgrown and are on the house and deck stairway. I have pictures of all of this if the owners would like to see.
Additionally, inside, there was a toilet paper holder dislodged and hanging from one screw. Drywall damage on the stairway to the second floor. The house was superficially clean, but the freezer had some dirt and frozen dark liquid on the bottom shelf. Gross. It was clear that various other areas had not received a dusting in a long time. Week to week cleaning is fine, but at some point when the property is vacant, it needs a thorough cleaning everywhere.
We also had an ant infestation. Not upset about that, it happens. Property manager dropped off some traps. Owner was very responsive to a couple of texts, but if they are relying on this "property manager," to take care of their property, it is a complete failure. He or she is doing nothing as near as I can tell.
Love the location, property is cute, but would not stay there again unless all of these problems are addressed. There are too many other options.

The property was rented with ease and the owners were easily accessible and responded immediately to our questions.

I like the location were is located, very cozy for the size of the cabin. Close to blue ridge parkway which is a plus. You can easily communicate with the owners at any time. However a few things I would recommend (my personal opinion) a fresh painting on the inside, I feel that the kitchen area, living room are out-dated. Too many rugs around the house which makes it a trip hazard, specially if you have someone that is disabled. Not enough cabinets in rooms to put clothe away, closet was full of things and not enough room to put your stuff while your staying. Only one Tv in the living room, maybe have a couple in a few rooms. Couldn’t find no sponge or dish soap to clean pans, yes they do have a dishwasher, however is hard to get rid of residue by just using the dishwasher. Overall I feel it needs a bit of TLC. However the price is right ! Would definitely stay again in the future.

Adequate for our group of 6, owners responded quickly to several requests.

We loved staying at the property and cannot wait to come back in the Spring/Summer so we can see the trees and flowers bloom. It's so welcoming, bright, and cheery. We stayed in a cabin at the beginning of the trip that was all wood and dark. It might have been at the top of the mountain, but I preferred staying here. I didn't want to leave!

We had a lovely time visiting the Chalet these past few days :) April and Basil were very helpful and responsive throughout the entire stay, check-in/check-out was a breeze, and the place was very clean. The sound bar with an AUX cable was a fun bonus to allow us to play music while cooking, etc. Some light feedback for next time - it'd be great to have a pair of scissors in the house, as well as a lighter for lighting the grill. The corkscrew in the house was broken as well, making it hard to open a bottle of wine. Finally, the upstairs shower doesn't drain super well, causing the water to pool around the ankles.Still, net a great trip, and we'd recommended it to others and stay again!

Had a great time here! Everything was just as it was described. Very clean and had everything we needed to feel right at home.

Chalet was just as pictured and described. Owners a pleasure to work with. We would definitely stay here again.

Yard was not very well kept. It was dated.
I would like to know when we get our security deposit back

Check in was super easy, location perfect to many different hikes and waterfalls. We had a lovely time. Thank you!

We rented this home for a week. Easy enough to get to once we knew our way around. Kitchen was not very well equipped. Pictures on site are a bit dated. Furniture was a bit worn. Apparently the owners had not been to the "secret" swimming hole in a few years. There was no deck. It had been gone for years we were told. Lot of trash around the river area. Rather disappointed in that. Upper deck railing was a bit rickity, so was nervous when kids were out there. Spiders in the lower bath and apparently there was a moisture problem, as we had to dump the dehumidifier several times. Closet door came off the track and we were unable to get it back on. Having one tv in the living room area was a bit annoying, especially with 3 kids that never want to watch what you do. No yard to speak of. It was paved though. Needs some upgrades. A big pot in the kitchen would be helpful.
4.6
House was nice. Bit tricky to navigate drive, but after first few attempts you know what to expect.

Our hosts were very nice and accommodating. We would stay there again.

We absolutely loved our stay. It was just two of us and our two dogs. We have family in Waynesville and we were able to have them over for dinner without any issues. The house was easy to get to, the neighbors were very friendly, and the house was spacious. Extremely enjoyable experience. Thank you for having us.

My extended family and I stayed here the second week of July. We had 6 adults,2kids and two dogs. There was plenty of room for sleeping but would have been a bit nicer if there had been enough seating at the dining table. The house was clean upon arrival. There was plenty of hot water for showers and clothes washing. There had been a problem with the HVAC before we arrived, but Vasily contacted me in advance to let me know of the issue which had been resolved before we arrived. It is close to town and around 30 minutes to Asheville. The neighborhood is pretty quiet with mostly permanent residents. The view is not as good as other places we’ve stayed in waynesville. Overall a clean, comfortable and convenient location!
